Spliting a 16 character string into 4

Hi All,
I'm new to Java and I'm a bit stumped on how i can separate this string:
String x = 1000 11000 1000 0000
by 4, like 1000
1100
1000
0000
I tried using the tokenizer and split functions but I couldn't figure it out.
String [] sub = w.split("\4");
for(int i=0; i<sub.length; i++){
System.out.println(sub);
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

As the numbers are space seperated, try
String[] strings = w.split(" ");

Since the title indicates that the base string has 16 characters I assumed that there was no group separator so split() was not applicable. I also assumed that the spaces shown in the example were artificial and being used to illustrate the groups.
If my assumptions are wrong then your use of split() is by far the best solution. If my assumptions are right then I think substring() is the way to go.
We will only resolve the issue if the OP bothers to respond!

How can I reduce a 6 character string into the right 2 character string ?
guidelines :
- the 6 character string is made up of up to 3 different characters, being A B C
- all 6 character strings list As first, Bs second and Cs third
- if the 6 character string contains 4 or more of the same characters, it should be reduced into a 2 character string of 2 times that same character
e.g. AAAABC --> AA
- if the 6 character string is AABBCC, then it should be reduced to the 'exception-string' NO
e.g. AABBCC --> NO
- if the 6 character string contains exactly 3 of the same characters, it should be reduced into a 2 character string of the 2 characters that occur most
e.g. ABBBCC --> BC
How do I fit this into just one formula ?

I thought about that awhile and investigated a few dead ends before thinking 'Wait a minute...there are only 28 possible 6 character strings.'
With that low number, the simplest solution is to list them in one column, list the two character result beside each one, then use that as a Lookup Table:
Same table as before.
Column L uses my version of Yvan's formula to produce the string from the entries in columns A,B and C
Column Q uses the string in L as the search key for VLOOKUP to find and return the two character string shown.
Q2: =VLOOKUP(L,Table 2 :: A:B,2,FALSE)
"FALSE" sets the formula to look for an exact-match. Probably unnecessary here, as all possible matches are in Table 2. Here is the top part of that table:

How to convert character string into ascii format correctly

I'm using encryption technique in my application(oracle formas 6i). character stream convert to the ascii format and add some numeric value and again convert to the character format

i wants to store all the values from my string into an array,,,, after converting them into intergers,,,, how i can do this becs i have a peice of code which just give me a value of a character at time,,,,charat(2)...BUT i want to the values from String to store in an Array

There is not a chance in the world, especially not knowing column definitions that I, and I suspect most anyone else, is going to wade through this much unformated code looking for an error you couldn't bother to copy in full.
Either tell us, specifically, the line on which the error is occurring or, better yet, start whacking stuff out of your code until you find the offending definition. That is certainly what I would do. Commenting out sections is a marvelous way to quickly find an issue.

I have a form which uses a customer form/report, drop downs etc..
the debug shows it running this statement

Here as we can see last characters are getting deleted by program. For example in first line
determine 'r' is missing in extreme right.
In 3rd line c is missing in extreme left (word change is needed. Program
prints hange.
Also in 3rd line extreme right 't' is missing
Also in 4th line extreme right 'a' is missing
Also the last line is not being printed. In last line "CO2." " should appear.
There are two issues:
1. Why last word of each sentence is not being printed?
2. Why last sentence is not being printed?
I am struggling since last 2 days. Please help. I made all changes like replacing 72 by 71 etc.
By making such changes, I am able to print first line correctly. However under all cases
last character of 2nd line onward is not getting displayed.
Also last line is not getting displayed. I did every thing like using while instead of for loop etc.
Kindly help.

Passing a string into an SQL query IN statement

Hello,
I need to connect to a database to pull some data to dynamically create a form based on the data I pull back. My SQL query works fine when I manually run it through a SQL client tool, but when I try to pass it through my workflow I'm having trouble with passing my string into the IN part of the statement. So if for example my SQL query is:
SELECT Field1, Field2, Field3 FROM Table1 WHERE Field4 IN (?)
I have a process variable that has the string I'm trying to pass into the ?, but I don't seem to be able to get the query to run. I have tried setting up my query to run as a Parameterized Query (passing my string process variable into the ?), and by setting the query up through xPath (where I am calling my process variable with an xPath declaration), but am not having any luck.
The process variable I am trying to pass is formatted such that I'm passing 'Value1','Value2','Value3' but I can reformat this string if need be. Even with using test data I can't get the query to return anything. For test data I have tried: 'Value1','Value2','Value3' ; Value1','Value2','Value3 ; Value1,Value2,Value3 but the query never returns any data. I can't seem to see how to format the string to pass into the query. The Query will work with a single Value in the test data, but as soon as I try to pass multiple values within the string it fails. Any suggestions?

The problem looks to be a limit on what I can pass into the SQL query component. My string is coming from data returned from another database. I take the xml output from that database call, pass it through a set variable component to remove my xml tags from the string, and then format the string in a script component (I have to do it this way because of the way the data coming out of my first database call). I've put in loggers, and can see that the string I'm passing into my query that is giving me problems, is formatted the same way as if I were to use the concat function Scott listed above. It looks like there is a limitation on what can be passed in my variable. I have tried creating my entire SQL query statement in a set variable component, and then just calling the process variable that holds that statement, but there is a character limit of 128 character for what can be passed in a variable through xpath in the SQL query component.
The next thing I tried was changing my SQL where clause. Instead of passing my variable directly into the IN statement I set up a PATINDEX('%:'+countyname+ ':%', ?) > 0 call to check for the values in my database call. As you can see I took out the "," that I was passing as part of my string, thinking that the SQL component was getting confused by them, and placed ":" characters around my values being passed in my string variable. No matter what I try to do though I'm not able to get the query to run. The component looks like it is taking my string, and is seeing the whole thing as a string instead of passing it as individual values within a string.
I think I'm getting close, but I keep getting a Content not allowed in prolog exception in the server logs.

You can search the forums for that error message and find previous discussions - they all boil down to the same problem. Somewhere in your query that calls this function, the code invoked implicitly converts from string to date/datetime. In general,
this works in any version of sql server if the runtime settings are correct for the format of the string data. The fact that it works in one server and not in another server suggests that the query executes with different settings - and I'll assume for
the moment that the format of the data involved in this conversion is consistent within the database/resultset and consistent between the 2 servers.
I suggest you read Tibor's guide to the datetime datatype (via the link to his site below) first - then go find the actual code that performs this conversion. It may not be in the function you posted, since that function also executes other functions.
You also did not post the query that calls this function, so this function may not, in fact, be the source of the problem at all.

I have a pl/sql block that I prompt the user for password and I load the string into an array and interrogate each index(entry) to see if it is "aA-zZ".
How can I check if the value entered is Alpha.

How to serch a character string in a BLOB (case insensitive)

The best way would be to use Oracle Text.
However, if you want a quick and dirty solution, I would convert to CLOB, and (assuming 9i) you can use LOWER on the CLOB.

ORA-06502 (character string buffer too small) on import application via script

I'm using a script to import my development application to a few production applications.
It worked great on apex 4.1.1, but now I get an 'ORA-06502 PL/SQL numeric of value error: character string buffer too small'
In the command window, I see that the script fails after it starts on the plugins.
My question: is this a bug in 4.2.2?
I could be a incompatible plugin, but how can I found out which plugin?
My script is quite simple:

OP has an ORA-06502 --> the IR is running into a 4k/32k limit.
quick solution: wrap USER_COMMENTS ListAGG in a substr( ...., 1, 4000)
Longer solution, use a subquery to modify the comments based on ROW_NUMBER() (ie after nth row, change it to NULL)

The error message should have included a line number for you to reference back to your code to know what line the error was occurring on.
That said, look at the documentation for SUBSTR as you are using the third parm incorrectly. It is length, not end position. That's your issue.

WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_CONDITIONS - ORA-06502 character string buffer too small

I am currently working on a application that can upload CSV files inside many tables. Since I hate reinventing the wheels, I have decided to reverse engineer APEX and APEX APIs that are used by the SQL Workshop to upload CSV files to a single table. Since this feature was tested many times by many developers around the world, I know I can trust the code. If in a future release of APEX those packages are modified, I'll have to update my abstraction layer to call my own packages instead of APEX packages. (This is not an issue for our team.)
First Step
Use apex_040000.wwv_flow_load_data.create_csv_collection to create an apex collection with the first 20 rows of the csv file. At this step, we can validate the format of a sample of the file without loading all rows of the csv file.
Second Step
Use apex_040000.wwv_flow_load_data.load_csv_data to upload all rows of the csv file inside a table.
Third Step
Do whatever you want with the data inside the table. (i.e.: Send the data into multiple tables...)
Here's my problem..._
After the first or second steps, I display the data using interactive reports. I want to highlight every cells containing "invalid" data. I use apex_040000.wwv_flow_worksheet_api.add_or_update_highlight. When I have too many invalid cells, the IR doesn't show at run time, and you can see ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small on the page.
I would like to know the limitations of IR using the table WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_CONDITIONS. Is there a way to create many highlight conditions inside a single row of WWV_FLOW_WORKSHEET_CONDITIONS ? I want to find the best approach to add hundreds of conditions.

At run time, when I look at the html source code, I can see all the generated CSS rules to highlight the cells of the IR.

ORA-0605: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small

I get this error on two function activities in a workflow of mine. I don't even get into the pl/sql procedure call.
The exact error is:
Error Name -6502
Error Message: ORA-0605: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
Error Stack: @#@Wf_Engine_Util.Function_Call(MY_PACKAGE.MY_PROC, ITEM_TYPE, ITEM_KEY, 6519, RUN)
If I retry the step (expedite -> retry) it runs until it hits the second function which does the same thing (there is a function in between the two functions that do not have any issues). I then have to retry that step as well. Any ideas?

I've tried commenting out the bodies of the procedures called but that does not help (again -- im not getting into the bodies but im not sure what else it could be).

Does this happen on every instance of the process, or just a few?
Are these activities in the middle, or right at the start of the flow?
Are any other activities being performed correctly first? If so, are these standard or bespoke?
My inclination would be that there is some kind of variable that is being populated (or concatenated onto), which is growing too big. When the process errors, it gets cleared, which is why an expedite would move the activity on.
