Spring vs JEE

Hi,
Today when companies have to create a Java development environment, what is the best way to go?
Lets say that a senior team would maintain this environment, and that this environment would spread everywhere in the company for creating every web applications (Intranet, Internet, ....). Thats why the choice of this environment is so important as it wont change for the next 5 or 10 years.
Today I see 2 solutions:
1. The unspecified Java solution: Tomcat web server + Spring Framework (MVC, ...)
2. The specified professional JEE solution: A JEE app server (Glassfish, Jboss or Websphere,...) + an MVC framework (Spring, or Struts2, ...)

[Here are some|http://google.com/search?q=spring+vs+jsf].
That suggested, there is IMHO no Spring or JSF. You can perfectly integrate them altogether.

  • Spring + weblogic. NamedQuery not found

    I've posted this at the [Spring forum|http://forum.springframework.org/showthread.php?t=67389] as well(, just wanted to try here too...
    We're new to about all of the technology we're working with, and we're having a hard time to get it all right. Please bear with us...
    We are developing a web application in JDeveloper 11g, using the integrated WebLogic Server and trying to configure Spring correctly. We don't have any experience with Spring, so we're just looking at examples and trying to figure it out. When running the application on the server, it seems that we get a connection to the database, but there are no Spring instances visible in the console...and when loading a jsf page, we get this error:

    Hi,
    if you have no experience with Spring, how did you get your application developed ? Anyway, I suggest you try the WLS forum here on OTN since the server configuration is not in the domain of JDeveloper

  • EJB Spec Question regarding classloading

    Some time ago I posted a message on "The Serverside" asking whether "Spring violates JEE spec". Of course I meant especially the EJB spec:
    http://www.theserverside.com/news/thread.tss?thread_id=50477#267459
    A huge discussion started especially regarding the following statement in the spec:
    "The enterprise bean must not attempt to create a class loader; obtain the current class loader;
    set the context class loader; set security manager; create a new security manager; stop the
    JVM; or change the input, output, and error streams."
    There was a lot of discussion. Someone then pointed to the following page:
    http://java.sun.com/blueprints/qanda/ejb_tier/restrictions.html
    There I can read something which confused me:
    "Contrary to common belief, most of the Java Reflection API can be used from EJB components. For example, loadClass() and invoke() can both be used by enterprise beans. Only certain reflection methods are forbidden."
    Is the writer of this article wrong? Or is true? But then why does the spec make this general restriction?
    I hope someone can shed some light on this. I'd really like to have an answer to that.
    Regards
    Oliver

    I am guessing it would throw an exception as it would not be able to map to fields it was not aware of. Maybe that is why...?How should it not be able, since I am telling it explicitly which fields to map to with @FieldResult ?
    And moreover.. what harm can it be there if I map the fields as I want ?
    I'm not trying just to justify the correctness of the spec, which I can hardly assume.. I need a strong argument.

    Ignore the JSRs for now.
    Follow the JavaEE tutorial.
    http://docs.oracle.com/javaee/6/tutorial/doc/
    The answers to many of your questions will be clear to you once you have completed the tutorial.
    I also like the tutorials here (they are a little dated, but still mostly relevant as the core JEE6 specs that the tutorial relies on were released over 5 years ago and JEE7 is yet to be released).
    https://schuchert.wikispaces.com/EJB+3+and+Java+Persistence+API
    zonski has a spring+javafx focused tutorial if you would prefer to learn and use Spring than JEE (they are differing technologies which cover pretty much the same functional set):
    http://www.zenjava.com/series/building-jee-applications-in-javafx-2-0/
    JavaFX is a client side framework so there is not much you would do with it on the server side.
    It seems like there is a ton of "JSR's" for different tasks, and I'm not sure exactly what I need, and all that, so I'm really confusedNobody needs all of JEE, just use the bits that you want that are a good fit for whatever project you are doing - don't try to use everything at once.
    A lot of the stuff can be learnt and used in isolation.

    We also had this problem. We have changed the TransactionManager.
    Replace the JPATransactionManager with the JTATransactionManager.
    <bean id="transactionManager" class="org.springframework.transaction.jta.JtaTransactionManager" />
    If you are using JTA you can't use the JPA Transaction Manager. It doesn't support JTA.
    Found it on a forum of Spring. (http://forum.springframework.org/showthread.php?t=48191)

  • Using WebLogic JMS Wrappers with Spring

    Hi,
    I was just wondering if anyone used WebLogic JMS wrappers with Spring?
    I am using WebLogic configured to have Sonic as my Foreign JNDI Provider. Weblogic provide me with specific entries on the admin console to set information such as the JNDI name of the Sonic Connection Factory. If I specify this JNDI name in the Spring config, and call getConnection() then I will get back a new connection each time.
    I don't want this, I want to cache the connection (as connections are expensive in Sonic). This is where the WebLogic JMS wrappers come in, they can handle the pooling for me but the only way I can see to use them is via a resource-ref. It is possible for Spring to get a handle onto these wrappers or should I use Spring's own pooling mechanism instead?
    P.S. I've also asked this question on the Spring forum
    Thanks for any help
    Mandy

    Maybe you have already tried the following:
    <beans xmlns:jee="http://www.springframework.org/schema/jee" ... >
    <jee:jndi-lookup id="connectionFactory" jndi-name="jms.ConnectionFactory">
    <jee:environment>
    java.naming.factory.initial=weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory
    java.naming.provider.url=t3://localhost:7001
    </jee:environment>
    </jee:jndi-lookup>
    </beans>
    an alternative is to use the JNDI template
    <beans ... >
    <bean id="jndiTemplate" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiTemplate">
    <property name="environment">
    <props>
    <prop key="java.naming.factory.initial">weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory</prop>
    <prop key="java.naming.provider.url">t3://localhost:7001</prop>
    </props>
    </property>
    </bean>
    <bean id="connectionFactory" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean">
    <property name="jndiTemplate" ref="jndiTemplate" />
    <property name="jndiName"><value>jms.ConnectionFactory</value></property>
    </bean>
    </beans>

  • Need Help in JNDI Datasource using tomcat and spring

    Hi,
    I am trying to connect my local database using JNDI datasource in tomcat and spring
    I have done the below configuration in Tomcat 7 server:
    In tomcat server.xml (Path: E:\apache-tomcat-7.0.35\conf) I added the below configuration
    <Resource name="UserDatabase" auth="Container"
    type="org.apache.catalina.UserDatabase"
    description="User database that can be updated and saved"
    factory="org.apache.catalina.users.MemoryUserDatabaseFactory"
    pathname="conf/tomcat-users.xml" />
    <Resource name="jdbc/myApp" auth="Container"
    type="javax.sql.DataSource"
    driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:hr@localhost:1521:XE>"
    username="testUser" password="password"
    maxActive="10" maxIdle="5"
    maxWait="60000" removeAbandoned="true"
    removeAbandonedTimeout="60" logAbandoned="true"/>
    In web.xml, I have added the below config:
    <resource-ref>
    <description>Oracle Spring JNDI Datasource</description>
    <res-ref-name>jdbc/myApp</res-ref-name>
    <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>

    Thanks

    Hi,
    I am trying to connect my local database using JNDI datasource in tomcat and spring
    I have done the below configuration in Tomcat 7 server:
    In tomcat server.xml (Path: E:\apache-tomcat-7.0.35\conf) I added the below configuration
    <Resource name="UserDatabase" auth="Container"
    type="org.apache.catalina.UserDatabase"
    description="User database that can be updated and saved"
    factory="org.apache.catalina.users.MemoryUserDatabaseFactory"
    pathname="conf/tomcat-users.xml" />
    <Resource name="jdbc/myApp" auth="Container"
    type="javax.sql.DataSource"
    driverClassName="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:hr@localhost:1521:XE>"
    username="testUser" password="password"
    maxActive="10" maxIdle="5"
    maxWait="60000" removeAbandoned="true"
    removeAbandonedTimeout="60" logAbandoned="true"/>
    In web.xml, I have added the below config:
    <resource-ref>
    <description>Oracle Spring JNDI Datasource</description>
    <res-ref-name>jdbc/myApp</res-ref-name>
    <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
    <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
    </resource-ref>
    And in my Spring context xml (ws-context.xml), added below config:
    <bean name="myDataSourceInJndi" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean">
    <property name="jndiName" value="java:comp/env/jdbc/myApp"/>
    </bean>
    <jee:jndi-lookup id="dataSource" jndi-name="/jdbc/myApp" resource-ref="true"/>
    In my Java code, I am trying the below code to connect DataBase:
    Context initCtx = new InitialContext();
    Context envCtx = (Context) initCtx.lookup("java:comp/env");
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) envCtx.lookup("jdbc/myApp");
    ds.getConnection();
    But I am getting the below exception while executing ****ds.getConnection();***

  • BlazeDS/Security/Spring/NonBlazeDS/NonSpring/Confusion Oh My

    I'm new to Flex (coming over from the pure JEE world.) One of the first things that is needed for any application is security authentication/authorization. I've been extremely disappointed, though, in the lack of good examples with best practices on how to handle this, or if there is a book that covers it well let me know and I'll purchase it.
    I'm working with BlazeDS at the moment (but not opposed to scrapping it.)
    I have managed to finally get a security setup using blazeds-spring integration working, but their forum is a ghost town so it makes me think that there aren't many people using it. The docs are also extremely vague. Had it not been for some stuff that I was able to pull from these two tutorials by the same author http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex_security.html#ach-setscr  http://www.gridshore.nl/2009/05/24/integrate-flex-security-in-mate-using-the-spring-blazed s-integration-project/ I would have been completely lost. Even though it's 'mostly' working, so much is unknown to me, and because the reference doc http://static.springsource.org/spring-flex/docs/1.0.x/reference/html/index.html is so short it doesn't cover a lot of what is going on.
    I'm not even 100% certain I want to use Spring though (It seems to actually black-box too much and in some ways overcomplicate things with a lot of configuration), yet I want my application be portable across containers. Where are the examples on the best way to set things up? The blazeds reference doc chapter seems to gloss over a lot, and only confuses me a bit more. I'd like to see some real examples.
    As an example of some things that I'd like to see:
    1) When not using Spring security, where is a concrete implementation of handling authentication and authorization (with/without blazeDS - I just want a good best practice example of how things are handled)?
    2) How are people dealing with session time outs? (user clicking around in application and then they happen to make a server call but their session is gone. Do you simply poll every few minutes to keep the session alive?)
    3) Are people putting up a filter up before the blazeDS filter to check the user's session is valid? If the session isn't valid and you've set up a filter, what happens on the flex side of things if the filter finds an invalid session? It can only redirect for forward so how does it trigger the client flex app that it needs to invalidate its internal storage of an authenticated user and hence needs to redisplay the login page. I know how to set things up in a traditional java web app, but I'm a bit stumped here... I only have one main "FooBar.swf" file, so when the sesison filter realizes the user's session timed out where do I "go" - can I somehow just redirect to the same main page "FooBar.swf" and somehow Flex can be aware that "Hey ok some event happened so I need to invalidate my flex user and present the login page (login component)"
    Thanks for any suggestions/help on what to look at for best practices.

    Hi,
    Did you got any ideas on this one? As a newcomer to Flex/BlazeDS I'd like hear those?
    I'll add my thoughts to the discussion you started.
    2) How are people dealing with session time outs? (user clicking around
    in application and then they happen to make a server call but their
    session is gone. Do you simply poll every few minutes to keep the
    session alive?)
    I check the session in a filter for each request. If there's no valid session, the filter sends a response message to flex app which shows it as a Alert message.I'm not (yet) using blaze, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
    If you want, you can configure the session timeout in the web.xml of your web app, so no need to poll. It would be nice to get asynchronous event from the server side when the session times out. This requires to use the pub/sub method of blaze or java messaging on a servlet.
    The web.xml of the blazeDS samples has the following lines
    <!-- Http Flex Session attribute and binding listener support -->
        <listener>
            <listener-class>flex.messaging.HttpFlexSession</listener-class>
        </listener>
    To me this indicates that you can define a listener for the session somehow. It would be nice to know more about this.
    3) Are people putting up a filter up before the blazeDS filter to check
    the user's session is valid? If the session isn't valid and you've set
    up a filter, what happens on the flex side of things if the filter
    finds an invalid session? It can only redirect for forward so how does
    it trigger the client flex app that it needs to invalidate its internal
    storage of an authenticated user and hence needs to redisplay the login
    page. I know how to set things up in a traditional java web app, but
    I'm a bit stumped here... I only have one main "FooBar.swf" file, so
    when the sesison filter realizes the user's session timed out where do
    I "go" - can I somehow just redirect to the same main page "FooBar.swf"
    and somehow Flex can be aware that "Hey ok some event happened so I
    need to invalidate my flex user and present the login page (login
    component)"
    Why not just have different swfs? When the session is not valid, redirect to login.html (a wrapper for login component).
    If I have understood correctly, Flex uses HTTP GET method to communicate with the browser. So it might be possible to send parameters to the app after the filter. Also, using java script and external interface might be helpful here.

  • Spring and Jms message: no message in the queue

  • Integration of Weblogic Server 10.3 and Spring 2.5

    Hello.
    I read that Weblogic 10.3 supports a Spring extension which allows Web component creation using Spring framework.
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs103/programming/spring.html#wp1079570
    Has anybody tried this?
    In particuar, documentation says:
    "Enable the Spring extension by setting the <component-factory-class-name> element to org.springframework.jee.interfaces.SpringComponentFactory. This element exists in EJB, Web, and application descriptors."
    Which descriptor for a Web application? web.xml? weblogic.xml? I tried both but I received validation errors.
    Can anyone explain this part a little better?
    Regards
    Davide

    I've been trying to get this to work... No luck as of yet...
    My problem now is that I get this exception when I don't have pitchfork-1.0-m5.jar on the my domains classpath.
    <30.mar.2009 kl 17.37 CEST> <Warning> <Deployer> <BEA-149078> <Stack trace for message 149004

    at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:276)
    Truncated. see log file for complete stacktrace
    However if I put it on wls calsspath I get a AbstractMethodError:
    <30.mar.2009 kl 12.59 CEST> <Warning> <EJB> <BEA-010065> <MessageDrivenBean threw an Exception in onMessage(). The exception was:

    I've tried various tips found http://forum.springframework.org/showthread.php?t=38361 and also tried setting the “component-factory-class-name” tag in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-application.xml but still get ClassNotFoundException.

  • Weblogic Error -  Spring tags

    I'm getting an error when i try to access a page with spring taglibs.
    During the deploy there are not any error.
    Error:
    personAdd.jsp:2:5: No tag library could be found with this URI. Possible causes could be that the URI is incorrect, or that there were errors during parsing of the .tld file.
    <%@ taglib uri="http://www.springframework.org/tags/form" prefix="form" %>
    Weblogic: 12c
    Sts: 2.9.1
    Has anyone had this error ??
    i already read some solutions in foruns like add this at weblogic.xml but doesn't work:
    <wls:container-descriptor>
              <wls:prefer-web-inf-classes>true</wls:prefer-web-inf-classes>
         </wls:container-descriptor>
    <wls:container-descriptor>
    <wls:index-directory-enabled>true</wls:index-directory-enabled>
    </wls:container-descriptor>

    I encounter the same problem:
    I and my colleagues have the same issue. Our taglibs are not found by Weblogic 12c (12.1.1) if we use STS 3.2 and 3.3 to deploy our multi-module web application (using Java 7). If for deployment we use an order Eclipse JEE release, IntelliJ IDEA or the admin console, everything runs fine. The only taglib that seems to be found is the standard JSTL taglib. For all others, we get an error like this:

    The comments are not the root cause as they just prevent blank newlines at the beginning of our rendered HTML.
    What does work is the STS together with Weblogic 10.3 and 11g. It seems to be a specific problem with the combination of Oracle Weblogic 12c and its support within STS / Eclipse. I already did an update to OEPE 5.3.0 and a fresh workspace and project checkout, but the result is still the same.
    If you need more detailled information, I will happily provide them.
    Kind regards,

  • WebLogic 11g and Spring beens injected into EJB

    All,
    I am getting an error injecting spring managed beans into EJB's within WebLogic 11g. I am using an interceptor extending the SpringBeanAutowiringInterceptor to set the context name by overriding the getBeanFactoryLocatorKey method. This is configured within the ejb-jar.xml file as an interceptor-binding for all ejb's. The beanRefContext.xml is in the root of the ejb jar and on the class path.
    The application deploys however when I can the remote ejb interface the following error occurs. The remote interface and model passed on the method call are deployed within a ejb-client jar file that within both the ejb and web applications class path. The ejb and web app are deployed separately i.e. the web app is deployed as a war out with the ejb ear.
    Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this? I suspect it is something to do with the class loaders / classpath and where the sping managed context is being loaded from. The Spring jars are deployed within the root of the ear and referenced within the Class-Path manifest.
    Regards
    Neil

    After some tinkering with this I am now getting a different error. I believe the error has changed as I am now deploying Spring 2.5.3 with my EJB. Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this?
    Note I have also deployed the code onto OC4J and it works fine.

  • Building JEE apps with JFX

    Based on recent interest in the topic, I'm putting together a blog series on building business applications with JavaFX 2, using popular JEE technologies:
    http://zenjava.com
    Currently the focus is on using Spring (annotation based config - ZERO XML) to achieve Dependency Injection with FXML and controllers. I'm planning however to eventually cover topics such as threading (with screen blocking while busy), client-server (using web services and spring remoting), databases (using hibernate and spring transactions) and authentication, security (using spring security) and various other bits and pieces.
    The intent is to provide a guide for people wanting to work with these tools, but also to get community feedback and suggestions on best practices. I look forward to your comments.

    Hi Zonski,
    That sounds like a great idea. I have a similar setup with a current live application written in JavaFx (Script) 1.3 and Java, which will need to be converted across to the latest JavaFX (perhaps Visage) next year. Similar but not exactly the same. The application uses Spring remoting and also Spring Security, with XML for configuration. For the ORM Cayenne is used.

  • WLS 10, pitchfork & Spring

    Christian shows us how to get access to the appContext within EJB3's with WLS 9 and pitchfork in the following post.
    http://springide.org/blog/2006/05/24/implementing-jee-with-spring-and-weblogic/
    In the comments, however, he says on Jun 11, 2007 that
    "Yes, I tested the example, but it didn’t work [in WLS 10.0]. There is a way to enable advanced Spring features in Bea WebLogic 10 (including AOP support), but this is not public right now and definitely not yet supported by BEA. Stay tuned for an upcoming BEA announcement."
    My questions is:
    Should we use the Spring abstract EJB base classes and ContextJndiBeanFactoryLocator/ContextSingletonBeanFactoryLocator to access the applicationContext in our EJB3's in WLS 10? There is at least 1 post on the Spring forum saying that this support is only for EJB2 (http://forum.springframework.org/showthread.php?t=47338).
    Thanks for any help,

    Thanks for your reply.
    Hmmm interesting.
    We have 4 servers with WLS 10.3.1. - they were all installed using the package installer with 32bit JVM/s. They were all configured to use the included 32bit JRockit; so the JVM being used by WLS is the same for all servers. The only difference between environments is that 3 are on Win08 SP2 and 1 is on Win08 SP1.
    My original post incorrectly states that the oddity was occuring with SP1 - in fact of the 4 servers the one on SP1 is reporting the OS correct and the 3 on SP2 are reporting the OS wrong.
    I checked the logs both on one SP2 server and on the SP1 server: both logs have
    os.arch = x86
    os.name = Windows Vista
    So "all" of the servers have that log entry with the OS wrong, but as stated the SP1 WLS reports the OS correctly in the Servers/Monitoring section of the console.
    Ignoring the misreporting in the log entry the law of differences would suggest maybe it's something to do with Win08 SP2 vs SP1 ???
    Or some weird combination because we also have WLS 10.3.2. with 32bit JRockit, one on Win08 SP1 and one on Win08 SP2 - they "both" report the OS correctly both in the log and via the servers monitoring page.

  • Interacting with adapters from Spring Component, especially db adapter

    hello everybody,
    I try to interact with adapters from my Spring component. I actually try to start my query and to receive the result in my Spring Component.
    I've already search for documentation about api to communicate with it or documentation about the classes created during the db adapter creation... But .. no result..
    So I'm trying to do it my self but I encounter some problems when I'm trying to call the query on the dbAdapter and trying to "play" with the classes created by the db adapter.
    Could anyone say me HOW we can interact with adapters from Spring component (in the class bean)?
    Also, how can I access to the variables? Is there an equivalent of "getVariableData" and "setVariableData" that I can use in the Spring Component? with which jar and/or import?
    I copy/paste what I've already done.
    So My Composite contains a Web Service "getStatusByCC" which is linked to a Mediator. The Mediator calls the Spring Component "SprinCallDB" and the Spring Component is linked to a database adapter called "getCreditValidation". The transformation in the mediator component is correct (I test it without the call to the db and it works fine)
    First, there is the classes created and added to my project by the db adapter :

    Any idea is welcome! :)
    If you have great urls to communicate with adapters and variables from spring component, don't hesitate to post it!

    Hello,
    Finally, I can interact with my db adapter.
    But, I ask you the following question : is there any documentation on the manner to interact with adapters and other component of the suite and on all classes generated?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sophie
