Spry menu appearing as solid block in Internet Explorer
Hi!
I have a similar problem as a previous post: my website's spry menu appears as a solid white block where the links would be on the menu. By mousing over the block, I can see the links. But I don't think the same answer you provided here would apply for me. I've looked at other sites and could not find a clear answer either. I don't know what hack to add or what to change. I am very new to CSS and designing/publishing websites.
Would you be able to help me?

Thank you so much!
P.S. Thank you, Ben, for pointing me to right direction in terms of the forum.
Hi,
Change the following rule
/* HACK FOR IE: to stabilize appearance of menu items; the slash in float is to keep IE 5.0 from parsing */
@media screen, projection
ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE
display: inline;
f\loat: left;
background: #FFF;
to read
@media screen, projection
ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE
display: inline;
f\loat: left;
background: #86BF3A;
I hope this helps.
Ben

Spry Menu Bar not showing up in Internet Explorer 7
So, after hours of playing with CSS code yesterday and today,
I finally got my Spry navigation bar laid out the way I would like
it to display in Safari. It look a very long time for me to
customize it the way I wanted it, but it the end, it turned out
fine.
Then... to my horror, I jumped into Internet Explorer 7, and
there is no navigation bar to be seen. I've heard of some problems
when viewing Spry menus in different browsers, but I never heard of
the menu simply not being displayed.
Any ideas on why this would occur? You can view the page I'm
working on
here.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!I am sorry, but I do not see a SpryMenuBar in your document nor do i see a problem with the menubar that you do have. I have tested in IE7+

Spry Menu Appears different in IE8 and IE7
All,
As most of the people who post on this site I am new to Dreamweaver CS4. I think I've done a pretty good job and programming my site and my skills will only get better with time. However I am having one issue that I have wrestled with all day. The site I am creating is located at http://www.greenehazel.com/beta. The spry menu looks fine if I access it with IE8, but when I access it in IE7 some of the rows appear on top of other rows etc. I have fiddled with the CSS on this for most of the day and can't figure out why this is occuring. I have attached the CSS below. What am I doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

How do I make Vertical Spry Menu appear in IE
The URL in question is:
http://www.ambppct.org/index_menu.php
I have inserted a Vertcal Spry Menu on this page. It functions perfectly in Safari, Firefox and IE 8. However it does not appear in previous versions of IE.

f\loat: none;You will have to update your spry code (do not know how (possibly in editing the css), but it is causing the problem).
If you have CS3 or 4, you can use the spry updater extension from -
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/
Delete your old spry files then apply the spry updater by selecting, Site - Spry Updater - then select the options req'd.
Check your page works, modify the spry css as required, checking the site in the browsers after every change.

This one is breaking my brain! JulieHi Gramps - thanks for getting back to me - I took advantage of your advice to others with some other issues I had and they worked a charm so I was really hoping to hear from you :-)
Unfortunately removing media="only screen and (min-width: 769px) from the css call didn't resolve the problem. Check it out on my index page www.webhance.com.au/index.html Any other ideas?

Spry menu appearing different in IE Browser
Hi there my spry menu is messing up when viewed in the Internet Explorer Browser. Everything appears fine when viewed in Firefox and Chrome, the URL is http://www.theboxinghistorian.com/
Here is a view of what it should be like and is when viewed in FireFox and Chrome
And this is the view in Internet Explorer (IE)
After several days of trial and error I deleted the whole script and associated CSS, however when i constructed another spry menu bar the same thing happened.
I then went of and set up a test site, entered a basic spry menu bar and it appeared fine when viewed in IE, basically I have tried everything, any help or feedback would be appreciated.You have applied a width: auto; to the submenus. In some browsers, that is as good as saying "fill up my page horizontally with whatever you give me for submenus..." or something equally obnoxious, as you have seen!
In this rule:
ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
list-style-type: none;
font-size: 100%;
z-index: 1020;
cursor: default;
width: auto;
position: absolute;
left: -1000em;
give a definite width (I suggest the same width that you gave the submenu items themselves, in this case 163px), and your submenu list items (which are made to float left, and will only stack up if they are in a confined space) should again fall where you want them.

Horizontal Menu Bar - Not displaying correctly in Internet Explorer
My issues are occuring in Internet Explorer 8 and 7, haven't tested earlier versions.
I am currently using DW CS5, Spry 1.6.1
The website (not yet complete) is at www3.sympatico.ca/mitchell.richard/
The menu bar as viewed in Firefox is correct. In Internet Explorer the menu bar is left justified, hides visited links, and lists horizontal menu items in reverse order.
I work for a Women's Shelter in Canada, as the Information Systems Manager. We don't have the funds to hire someone to build a website and it was decided and I quote "You know computers, you can buld the website". I couldn't get them to understand the analogy that just because a Neurosurgeon can use a scalpel he isn't a Cardiothoracic Surgeon... needless to say, I am floudering on this menu bar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The red coloured line causes your menu to be displayed the wrong way round in FF. IE shows the menu as you have listed it with Contact Us as the first item.
Advice:
change the float to left so that the listed items start on the left hand side
change the listed items in the order that you want them to appear. -
JPEG Images Appear different in Safari vs Internet Explorer
I created a logo for a web site using Photoshop CS2 and noticed that in Safari, the alpha channel (which is supposed to be transparent) gives the logo the appearance of a cream colored background while in Internet Explorer, the logo background has the expected transparent effect.
Can anyone explain why I am seeing this difference?
The site is http://polyols.synair.com/toll_manufacturing.htm in case anyone wants to run the comparison themselves. The logo is in the upper right hand corner of the page.
There is only the one image file for the logo.
Thanks,
JeffHi Jeff, and welcome to Apple Discussions!
I have taken a look at the link you provided, but do not see the problem you describe.
The logo looks the same in both Safari and Explorer on my Mac, as well as Explorer and Firefox on my PC... if you could provide some extra information on which version of OSX you are using, as well as which version of Safari, we may be able to figure out what's happening.
Maybe you could even upload a screen shot of what your browser displays and provide another link.
Also, note that your logo is a JPEG, which does not support alpha channels or transparency (as far as I know). It looks to me like it is a flattened image of your logo with a shadow on a plain white background.
In addition, might I suggest you extend the area below the logo, as the shadow is getting cut off. -
How can I get layers that are inside tables that are
inside another layer to appear properly in Internet Explorer. It
works fine in Firefox and Safari on Mac and PC? The layers that are
causing the problems contain a table with an image and a caption,
so 2 cells. Then the layers are within a larger table that is
within a layer. I don't use IE (cause it is the bain of my
existence) but for a client they may want it to look good on all
browsers, even if it is IE 6 on a PC, maybe the browser version is
too old and I shouldn't worry about it? I know IE is not compliant
with web standards so is this the problem or is there a way to fix
the problem so it will look good in all the browers? The URL is
http://uweb.txstate.edu/~ts20/scevents/spec-coll-events.html
so if anyone could look at it IE and firefox and see how I could
fix it, this would be very appreciated!
Much needed help. Thanks for any input.>>I knwow IE is not compliant with web standards
That is too broadly stated to be credible. Certainly IE6 has
its problems
but is highly compliant with most web standards. To be an
effective
designer/developer one must have a working knowledge of IE's
deficiencies,
not just write it off as non-compliant. After all, it is
still used by some
70% or web users (based on W3C Schools data.)
Please post a link to your site.

Third party cookie block on Internet Explorer
I blocked third-party cookie access on IE, now every time I try to open IE, a window pops up asking to allow or block. Regardless which choice I make or how many times, it will not go away. I can not access the tools to change it with the cookie window open, and I can not close the cookie window. Help!
Hello wendy1960,
Since you are unable to access the menus in Internet Explorer it can be a little tricky. Microsoft does have a tool available that allows end users to do a lot of fixes on their computers, there is even one that is specifically designed to reset internet explorer to the default settings.
Try running the tool to see if it helps resolve your issue. You can find it on this page
How to reset Internet Explorer settings

Menu positioning problem when viewing in Internet explorer on a pc
Hi guys,
I have created a website for a football team and I am having problems with the menu. It looks fine in all browsers apart from Internet Explorer. The menu positioning is meant to be on the left hand side but shows far right on the screen when viewed in Internet Explorer. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue?
http://www.stormersfc.co.uk
css sheet - http://www.stormersfc.co.uk/style.css
Hopefully someone can help.
Cheers,
RoyHummm....its difficult to tell. Youre using so many redundant css styles ie not needed.
Youre 'leftPan' <div> container is 140px in width but your ul (unordered list inside it is 244px wide?
Why set widths and heights when they are not needed. You have no idea what height the ul and li will be in other users browsers. A child element placed inside a parent container will stretch to the full width without specifying a width for the child element. The key to web deisgn is keeping all the maths 100% correct. If you so much as get anything out by even one px it could break the design.
#leftPan{
margin-left: 90px;
width: 140px;
#leftPan ul{
width:244px;
height:250px;
background-position: 0 0;
padding-top: 0px;
padding-right: 0;
padding-bottom: 0;
padding-left: 0;
margin-top: 1px;
text-decoration: none;
I see no reason why your based structure ie the 'container', 'header', 'mainpic', sidebar1 and 'mainContent' should not work in all browsers. Now what you have inside those may be casuing the conflict. I would strip the page back to the base structure (check that it does work in all browsers) then begin to fill the containers, checking as you go. -
I'm having trouble with a Spry Menu Bar not displaying
correctly in Internet Explorer, while it displays fine in every
other browser I have available. I've done some searching on these
boards, but the queries I've found with the same type of problem
each has a knowledgeable person editing the code for the
poster...and I can't seem to make heads or tails of it.
So, below is my link. What you'll see if viewed in Explorer
is that the "Clinics" listing and the "Services & Specialties"
listing are each on the same horizontal line, rather than vertical
like the rest of the menu. If anyone can help me in correcting this
problem, I'd be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance.
http://www.chambershospital.com/temp/about.htmlHello,
You might try removing all of the <div> tags you
inserted in the menu.
This can happen if you select text in design view and use the
"align" icons
in the properties window instead of using CSS to align
things.
For example:
<li>
<div align="left"><<****REMOVE THIS
<a href="clinics.html"
class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">Clinics</a>
<ul>
<li><a href="clinic.html">Chambers
Clinic</a></li>
<li><a href="clinic7.html">Scenic 7
Clinic</a></li>
</ul>
</div><<*** REMOVE THIS
</li>
So it looks like this:
<li><a href="clinics.html"
class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">Clinics</a>
<ul>
<li><a href="clinic.html">Chambers
Clinic</a></li>
<li><a href="clinic7.html">Scenic 7
Clinic</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
Repeat for all the other <div align="left"> and
</div> tags in the menu.
Take care,
Tim

Spry menu Bar I.E. positioning issues?
Hi,
I, like many folks I've seen on various forums have the same problem with my spry menu appearing at the top of I.E browsers instead of under the menu bar. I've tried all sorts of fixes that I've found and have updated to the latest version of Spry. I am using CS3. Could anyone please, please help? I'm not sure where else to go as I've spent the last week on the web trying to resolve the issue. Everything works great on Safari and Firefox. My URL is http://www.visiongreeninvestments.org
Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

Widget not working in Internet Explorer
My Spry widget drop down menu works in all browsers except
Internet Explorer. In Explorer it shows a white box with the word
"false" in it.
Any ideas?To eliminate the "false", open your script file and locate
this line:
this.createIframeLayer(menu);
Place 2 slashes in from to comment it out, like this:
//this.createIframeLayer(menu);
This hack is like taking a sledge hammer to a thumb tack. It
addresses an
issue in older versions of IE where positioned content will
appear under a
select box. In any event, your sub menus should now appear
and you can focus
on the remaining CSS issues you have, which I'm sure someone
at Adobe can
help you with.
