Spry Mysql XML

Hi there guys
I just installed DW-CS3.
How can I use Mysql in my spry? I looked at some adobe
documents and looked on the web but, I did not grasp it.
On one page
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/spry_xml_export_03.html
it says in DW-CS3, under "Applications Panel > Server Behaviors
tab > the Developer Toolbox submenu" add XML export. Where is
this?
Any how what would you recommend me to do? I need to get data
out of mysql and convert to XML and view, edit and delete, using
spry.
I am new to this, so please.

Page 1 of that tutorial has the requirements for the
tutorial, which includes having the Adobe Dreamweaver Developer
Toolbox installed (or the XML Export which was a registration
incentive for DW CS3), so if you do not have either, then you can't
follow that tutorial exactly.

This page has some generic code for PHP, CF, and ASP that
takes data from a recordset and puts it into XML:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/utils/query2xml.html
Once you're creating XML from your data, then you should be
able to pick up that tutorial on the "Consuming exported XML" page.

• How do i create a styled spry mysql driven menu using dreamweaver cs4?

How do i create a styled spry mysql driven menu using dreamweaver cs4?
I have cs4. I gave up on using MS sql as a datasource. I finally got a php successfull connection in my PHP web page.
I would like a nice video tutorial for creating a dynamic menu.
I guess i can style it by attaching a css file to the page. Are their any already designed css files out there in some online area?
i am not a good designer. so i would like to simply have a collection of menu_style.css files and choose what looks good.
But first i need to build the spry menu from the mysql database.
Any help is apprechiated.
My first choice was to maintain the data in an MS sql server file. If i could directly attach to an ms sql datasource then that would be the best option.
I dont think i want to have to re-generate an XML datasource each time i add or modify the menu. I would like to maintain the MS Sql or mySql file instead.
If i could generate an XML datasource from the MS Sql database then I may even prefere that, but i have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do that and not had any success. So i prefere working in MS sql but would settle for mySql if i had to.
Thanks
Jerry

Then remains the manner in which you create the XML file which can be found here http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/utils/query2xml.html
One you have your menu up and running, you will be able to apply styles and effects

• XML/SPRY & MySQL...Need help please!

I don't really even know how to title this new message but I
know what I would like to do. I am designing a dynamic photo
gallery and would like use the Spry/AJAX framework to display my
photos on a php web page.
The photos would be uploaded to a MySQL database on the
backend thru an insert form. I understand that Spry Datasets have
to be associated to an XML file located on the server. I know how
to format the XML file manually however I do not know how to update
the XML file on the fly. I would like to be able to upload photos
to a remote folder on ther server using PHP/MySQL via an 'insert
new record' form or an 'update record' form. Once the new photos
have been uploaded (or Updated), how can I tell the MySQL database
to update the XML file that is associated with Spry table that
displays the photos on the frontend?

You don't. All that you need to do is to generate the XML
dynamically by
querying the database. The following page in the Spry samples
shows you
how to do it:

• Dw cs5.5 + Phonegap + spry dataset xml and images links broken

Hi all,
I'm building an app using DW CS5.5 and Phonegap.
This is what I've done:
created pages using the starter template (local)
I created a php page that run a query on a mysql database and output an xml file
I created a spry dataset using the php (see 2) file as data file
It works locally and on-line on my website.
But if I package an app using the android sdk from dw CS5.5 I have problems: all images are all broken. It seems that the link to image is not correct.
In fact, all images are not using absolute path (http://www.mysite.com/images/...) but are set this way: /images/....
So, my question is: have I to specify all images sources using absolute paths to make it work when packaged?
TIA for any reply
tony

Hi Gramps,
I just solved the problem with image paths (I made all src paths absolute).
There is only one problem left: I opened another discussion: http://goo.gl/ysNDH
But here the link you (correctly) need to trobleshoot the problem): http://www.camar.it/newsxml
It should work on desktop browsers but it fails when I pack the app for android and install it on an android smartphone: I get "error loading page" when clicking on any details link (the button label is: DETTAGLI) on the news page.

• Spry Tabbed XML data panels within HTMLPanel not working.

Many thanks for reading.
s
I trying to provide a rapid solution using adobe's samples
to make Spry Tabs work within an html panel (in order to avoid
many links in my page).
I am using the following code:
initial page with html panel with the ready products.js to parse the links:

var pv1 = new Spry.Data.PagedView( ds1 ,{ pageSize:10 });
var pv1PagedInfo = pv1.getPagingInfo();
//var TabbedPanels1 = new Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels();

// attach an onclick handler that will intercept clicks and

// For these links, we want to load the static product page
// and extract out the content underneath the "mainContent"
// node.
Spry.$$("#productPageLinks a").addEventListener("click", function(e)
mainPanel.loadContent(this.href, { id: "mainContent" });

// For these links, we are loading HTML fragments, so there is no
// need to specify an ID to extract out. The HTMLPanel will insert

Spry.$$("#productFragmentLinks a").addEventListener("click", function(e)

}, false);
// Add our InitProductPage() function as a load listener
// so that it gets executed once the page has fully loaded.
Spry.Utils.addLoadListener(InitProductPage);
XML data and stuff all loaded correctly
What I am trying to do is to load a second page from a link in my initial page
that contains a Tabbed Panel.
The page loads but no panel functionality exists. The first Panel load correctly but behaves as a simple html page .
I have searched several hours the forums and playing around by moving the definition of Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels within
the initial HTMLPanel page and other spots but this produced js errors as expected (because the tab panel definitions exist in bookcategories.php)
which is loaded only when it is called.
Any ideas?
Page to load is like this :
<bookcategories.php>

• Spry region XML issue

I'm developing an interactive menu using the Spry and Ajax framework that lists the menu items on the left (in a Spry accordion) to a corresponding image and description on the right. I have the basic functionality working, however, my menu items are broken into sub categories, and I can't seem to get my XML file to separate these.
For an example of what I'm trying to do, visit here: http://bit.ly/g0RrU
As you can see, my menu is broken into sections; i.e. Tapas, Pizzas, Entrees...etc. Do I need to link a separate XML file to each of these sections, or can I simply make one more generation in my XML file.
For instance, could my XML file look like this:

<menu>
<tapas>

Fresh Tilapia Dip

<desc>Mesquite Smoked Fresh Fish w/ Tortilla Chips and Pickled Jalapenos $6.99</desc>

Jamaican Jerk Chicken Satay

<desc>Served with Pineapple Chutney w/ 101’s Spicy Tartar. $9.99</desc>

</tapas>
<pizzas>

Pizza1

<desc>description</desc>                      </pizzas>
</menu>
This is actually how it is currently set up, but when I link the XML file to a Spry region, it ignores the <tapas> and <pizzas> categories, and goes straight to the
. What's the best practice to achieve this menu effect?

What version of Spry are you using? If you are going to work
Spry and AIR, you will need Spry 1.6.1 to work within AIR's
application sandbox. You can find the details here:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/air.html
and a case study that shows what I had to do to make the
Photo Gallery work in AIR 1.0 here:

• Spry Dataset XML Import Blank (Where's the problem?)

I have a weird predicament I've worked myself into and need to figure out a way to clean up this process.
Background: I am working within the constraints of a content management system that doesn't have full content management capabilities, switching CMS is not an option, server I believe is Tomcat, but JSP/ASP/PHP I think is irrelevant because of the constraints of the CMS. The current dilemma I have is that they want a list built on a page, 40 items per page. Very manual process. Get Excel list --> Move to HTML --> And then playing musical chairs rotating things around. This last part is the reason I'd like to move it towards XML. It might not be as pretty, but I'm hoping to eliminate as much tedious coding as I possibly can (code looks bad enough as it is, no where near valid, definitely not accessible for Murray, but out of my control as far as changing at the moment).
The project also moves around so not everyone has the same software and moving to a database, is not an option.
Where I'm at: Because there are multiple parties involved the only link between them is the dreaded Micrsoft Office (v. 2007). So I figured it was worth a shot looking into Excel's XML capabilities. I created the XSD file for Excel to map from, and let Excel save the file as XML. Now I have used the XML feature before in DW with datasets using XML files that either I hand-coded or where cached from database queries. I tried to import it into DW and normally where you preview the data, in this case, nothing is visible. So my first though is, maybe the XML from Excel doesn't validate, but then it does so that doesn't appear to be the issue. It validates just fine.
My ideal is that users can save just an Excel file and when these pages are made, the XML can be exported for DW and then if things need to be re-ordered they can easily do it in Excel which everyone has, but the web person can just upload an XML. Below is the XML and XSD files that were used. There is only one row of data in the XML file and data is sample data because of proprietary things. Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated.
XSD:

</list>

I do not see a problem with the XML file. In fact I used the data as a file called untitled1.xml in the following

Untitled Document

List_item

List_item/@address

List_item/@imagepath

List_item/@name

List_item/@product

List_item/@productlink

{list_item}

{list_item/@address}

{list_item/@imagepath}

{list_item/@name}

{list_item/@product}

{list_item/@productlink}

and it works fine.
However, if I that was confronted with the problem, I would save the Excel file to a CSV and use the Spry CSV Data Set as per http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/data_region/CSV_sample.html

• Spry Repeat/XML question

I am in desperate need of help.
Here is the path to my html file.
http://www.3hounddesign.com/WoodsWoods/gallery/index.html
When you look at it, you see the navigation list on the left
(Adobe, SF Symphony, Fiery, etc). This list corresponds to the
images that you see. However some of the navigation items (Adobe,
Apple, Levi Strauss) have more than one image associated with them.
I want to be able to use the arrows at the bottom of the page to
click through to the second image, but not have it show up on the
navigation list. For example, I only want Adobe to show up once on
the navigation list, even though I have 2 different adobe photos,
and thus have created 2 different XML entries for Adobe.
http://www.3hounddesign.com/WoodsWoods/gallery/galleries/woods/photos.xml
The first entry has the Adobe title, while I left the second
one blank. However this leaves a blank space on the navigation
list.
Unfortunately I know very little about javascript and am just
learning about this spry stuff and am very confused, and therefore
created this stuff by altering the adobe gallery demo
I also have a version I created by altering the adobe
products demo (
http://www.3hounddesign.com/Paul_Woods/identity.html#)
However that has problems of its own, so I would rather stick
with my alteration of the gallery demo.
So basically my question...Is there any way that I can have
the navigation only show one entry for Adobe (and Apple and Levi)
yet still have two images there?
Sadly, I am desperate need of an answer ASAP, as a current
job I am working on depends on it, and I don’t want to have
to resort to iframes.
Please please someone help me!

Hi,
I looked over you code and I noticed that you have the image
src added on the left side.
You have this
You don't need to have the image added on the left side,
because you want there only the title (Adobe, SF Symphony...)
So you should replace the img with a div for example:

{@thumbpath}

The reason why you have an empty space after Adobe item is
that on you xml you have an empty alt attribute.
To display only the thumbpaths that are not empty you can add
an spry:if condition.
So the above div becomes:
<div style="width:89px; height:15px;left: -77px; right:
0px;" id="tn{ds_RowID}" spry:if="{@thumbpath}" != ""
>{@thumbpath}

This says if thumbpath is not empty display it.
I aslo load you page in IE and I noticed that the left menu
is not displayed.

• Clickable email address using Spry and XML

Hi all,
I am using Spry to feed contact data into a web page. Here is
the page:
http://www.bopjodesign.com/CFM/contacts.html
I don't know how to get the email address to show up as a
clickable link. In my XML, I have the info organized thusly. Please
note how the the email address is written:
<contacts>
<contact>

Executive Vice President, Director of
Marketing

[email protected]

<phone>800.538.5111 ext. 1729</phone>
<cellPhone>727.385.2020</cellPhone>
<fax>866.291.8504</fax>
</contact>
</contacts>
Writing it this way causes the email info not to show up at
all. I'm rather new to XML so I guess I'm not writing it correctly.
Can anyone tell me how to write this so the email addresses show up
as clickable hyperlinks?

That did it! Thanks very much. I made a slight change in your
example. In my HTML I wrote:

Email: {email}

That way it would list the email address on the page
dynamically
Thanks for again for the solution.

• Mysql + XML

Hi All,
I am developing a demon application in which i have to populate a log file in mysql 4.0 database table on daily basis. As per the requirement i have to do various query on this table and store the output in another table's. In my case requirement can keep on increasing. So which java technology is best suited for this situation to achieve maximum flexibility i mean as the number of query increases only we have to configure this query.
Thanks in Advance for the advice

You have to design your software to be flexible. There's no technology per se that will just give you flexibility.

• Spry Menu Using Nested XML Dataset (Spry 1.6)

I have a vertical menu with a few items. One of which is
labeled Products which has submenus. I want to have that submenu
read from a Nested XML dataset. Using a single dataset for one
level in a menu is easy enough, but the subenu will have submenus.
Example Menu:
Home
Company
Products
|-- Product 1
|-- Item 1
|-- Item 2
|-- Item 3
|-- Product 2
|-- Item 1
|-- Item 2
|-- Product 3
|-- Item 1
|-- Item 2
|-- Item 3
|-- Item 4
|-- Product 4
|-- Item 1
|-- Item 2
|-- Product 5
I have been looking for an easy way to use the Spry Nested
XML Dataset to create the Product/Item menu. The number of Products
may vary as well as the number of Items in each Product submenu
(also, some Products may not have Items).
I already have an ASP page that creates the XML data from a
database.
Schema follows (XSD ):

<xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="
http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<xsd:element name="products">
<xsd:complexType>
<xsd:sequence>
<xsd:element name="product_type"
maxOccurs="unbounded">
<xsd:complexType>
<xsd:sequence>
<xsd:element name="type_name" maxOccurs="1"
type="xsd:string"/>
<xsd:element name="type_url" maxOccurs="1"
type="xsd:anyURI"/>
<xsd:element name="product_name"
maxOccurs="unbounded">
<xsd:complexType>
<xsd:sequence>
<xsd:element name="item_name" maxOccurs="1"
type="xsd:string"/>
<xsd:element name="item_url" maxOccurs="1"
type="xsd:anyURI"/>
</xsd:sequence>
</xsd:complexType>
</xsd:element>
</xsd:sequence>
</xsd:complexType>
</xsd:element>
</xsd:sequence>
</xsd:complexType>
</xsd:element>
</xsd:schema>
I have been programming for 17 years but am new to Spry. If
this cannot be done easily with the Spry framework, I'll probably
wind up splitting the XML data into 2 files (Products and Items)
then writing a nested loop and call each by row, but then I have to
find out how Spry Datasets reference XML data. Figuring out how to
call rows from the XML data shouldn't be so bad, but this method
just seems like such a hassle for something that should be easy.
Pseudocode follows:
j=1
i=1 to TotalNumberProducts
display Product i from Products
ItemsExist=true
While ItemsExist
if j > TotalNumberItems | Item j is not for Product then
ItemsExist=false
else
display Item j from Items
j++
Wend
Next
Thanks in advance for any help or direction!

That's exactly what I'm trying to do. However, I implemented
that code and the submenus won't appear. I suspect the submenus
aren't finding the field names from the Nested XML Dataset. The
first level of Product menus work great (this is a submenu of the
overall menu) and correctly identify products that do not have
submenus, so I know it's picking up the number of records in the
Nested Dataset correctly - it just won't display the data in the
next level of menu.

• Using Spry.Data.XMLDataSet. Can xml file name be set to change on calendar date?

I have a website that uses Spry Data XML DataSet to list common pests for the current month. http://www.shspestcontrol.com/
Each month's list of pests is in a separate xml file (e.g. pests-august.xml)
Rather than manually updating the file name each month, can it be setup to automatically change the name
For instance on January 1st, file name changes to pests-january.xml, Feb 1st changes to pests-february.xml. etc.

var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("../files/research/counties_census.xml", "ohio");

Am I just making a syntax error or is this just outside the scope of what I can use spry for? Any help is appreciated.
thanks in advance

I have one more question. What you gave me worked like a charm btw. Thanks a lot. Onto the question:
I'd like to use the same XML to also power a drop down menu, here's a snippet of the XML/XHTML below. I can't seem to get it to work on the drop down, the image map works great.
XML snippet:
<locations>

• Spry XML Function

Hi there guys
I have searched all forums but I could not find anything.
I am using Spry and XML. I have put the code below. It has to
split the data from one of the variables "pt_task" and split it
where "||" is. Could someone help please?
=====================================================

{FormattedRow}

=====================================================

Hi "V1 Fusion"
First Thank you for your reply.
I can tell you this I am very novice in Spry.
I have a field that is implode by "||" & "(|)". I like to
explode this and put the outcome into an array.
I have done the first section since writing this topic which
is below but I can not re-explode or split the row again. Also I am
getting "," in between the splits which I do not know where they
are coming from.
E.g. a1b,a2b,a3b(|)c1d,c2d,c3d
Could you help please?
<script type=text/javascript".....>
Var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("XmlFile.xml",
"Prog/Tasks",(useCache:false));
function FilterThisOne(ds, row, rowNumber){
var DataStepOne = row['ThisNode'];
DataStepTwo = DataStepOne.split("||");
row['FixedDataOnce'] = DataStepTwo;
return row;
ds1.filter(FilterThisOne);
</script...>
Sample Data:
a1b||a2b||a3b(|)c1d||c2d||c3d
Thanks
Ben

• Spry Gallery galleries.xml v/s galleries.asp

I´ve been trying to deploy an image gallery, but when I
declare the dataset as an XML it works great, but is the dataset is
an ASP page which generates an XML file, it does not work, even if
I try using the XML file content on the ASP file.
Does anyone knows who to workarround this?
Does work
var dsGalleries = new
Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("/xml/spry/galleries.xml",
"galleries/gallery");
Does not work
var dsGalleries = new
Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("/xml/spry/galleries.asp?IDLocal=<%=request.QueryString("IDLocal")%> ",
"galleries/gallery");
Thanks
FBP

Hey FBP,
Can you view that ASP directly in the browser without error?
Do you have a sample URL?
Thanks,
Don
