Spry valid state form msg

Hi,
I'm just learning to built Spry form from DWCS3.
How do you include a custom message for the valid state?
It is currently display green color only.
I want it to display a message like the invalid state.
The invalid state " A value is required."
Thanks,
oneone1

Fixed this by specifying the item number for each option in my select as follows:
<span id="spryEquipLoc">
<label for="EquipLoc">Equipment Location</label><br/>
    <select name="EquipLoc" id="EquipLoc" tabindex="4">
      <option selected></option>
      <option value="item1">Master Control</option>
      <option value="item2">Media Services</option>
      <option value="item3">Central Tape</option>
     </select>
     <span class="selectRequiredMsg">Please select an item.</span></span>

  • Spry Validation - using a valid state image

    Hello,
    I have been looking through Adobe labs and spry documentation but I cant seem to find a way to use an image as an indication of the valid state of a form. I have seen disscussions on this forum about using adobes labs sample. I have looked at adobe labs sample and the source code but for some reason  the spry css look's different to mine. I dont seem to has a "validmsg" class style.
    I would be grateful if someone could walk me through the process of using images instead of the default color change of the input boxes on validation.

    If you wish to use an image then the first step is to create the image you wish to show.
    Once this is done, create your required fields validation as per the spry documentation (also included in the CS4 documentation).
    Then after each input field where you wish your image to show (when valid), insert the following line -
    <img src="link to your image" title="valid" alt="valid" class="validMsg" border="0"/>
    Don't worry about the css, as spry does this for you.

  • Mailto form with spry validation won't open in IE

    Hi,
    I've created a mailto: form using Spry validation fields and have two issues.
    1. I create the form, transfer it to the webserver and the validation fields work.  But when I reopen the form in Dreamweaver to make changes, an error window comes up saying that there are widgets that no longer exist and some of the fields have lost their validation code.
    2.  The form works fine in Firefox, but in IE, you click Submit, it brings up the email window, but the content is empty.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Spry Validation form objects

    I have just been looking at the Spry validation form objects
    like the textfileds and the checkboxes etc, and I like what I see,
    but I wandered how I might deal with them once filled in and the
    form is submitted.
    Currently, I create forms manually and then use the Yaromat
    Validate form which I think is really good. I create asp pages, so
    I programme my email forms to be submitted by CDONTS. Once the form
    is submitted it is then sent to a thank you page where the CDONTS
    code is sitting, and is formatted into an email and sent to the
    relevant email addresses.
    If I chose to use Spry validation instead of the Yaromat
    Check form, do I just carry on creating the CDONTS code on the
    thank you page as I would do normally in order for the email to be
    sent?
    Thanks
    Mat

    You can specify addional error locations. See this example: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/validationwidgets/Single_error_message_onS ubmit.html

  • Spry Validation For PHP Form

    Hello All,
    I am currently using the Spry Validation within Dreamweaver 5.1.1 and it was working in my development environment until yesterday. I did not change directories so I believe it is not an issue with my file structure.  Below you will see my baic form set up and for some reason, when I load my page, all of the spry error messages are visable. Previously, the page would load and it would not appear until there was an error after submitting the page.  Maybe I'm missing something but an extra pair of eyes does not hurt.  The ".textfieldRequiredMsg" class displays automatically when it is set in the css file to "display: none:".
    I'm stumped:

  • Spry Validation-text field shows the "required" text even in initial state

    Hi,
    I'm having trouble with spry validation.
    I insert my spry textfied and go to the properties inspector where  I choose validate on "Blur" and "submit" for the Required state. I check the required box for the "required state" but the initial state will also have the "a value is required" text. If I try to delete the "a value is required" text from the initial state, the required state won't show this error.
    What should I do?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi, thanks so much for the reply
    Well the javascript came with the spry file that I downloaded from the adobe site.
    Here is my statement:
      <label for="name"><span class="style87">Name:</span></label>

                      <span class="textfieldRequiredMsg">A value is required.</span></span></p>
    This is the statement for the submit button:
      <span class="clearIt">
                      <input name="send" type="submit" id="send" onclick="MM_validateForm('username','','R','password','','R','name','','R','email','','R' ,'comments','','R');return document.MM_returnValue" value="Send comments" />
                    </span><span class="clearIt">

    This is the javascript
    <script type="text/javascript">

  • Spry validation problem for long forms

    I used the Spry Validation Widgets for my form validation. It
    works great, BUT the problem is that if you have a very long form
    and the user doesn’t fill in one of the top required fields,
    it doesn’t scroll the browser back up to the required field,
    or present a message next to the submit button telling the person
    that not all required fields have been filled in. Nothing appears
    to happen at all, which would be confusing to users. I added my own
    message underneath the Submit button which reads "If this form does
    not submit, check for required entries at the top of this page.*",
    but is there a way to add an extra popup message that could appear
    next to the Submit button instead? (I know that we can't mix the
    Validate Form behavior with the Spry Validation widgets.)

    Came across the same issue as well. To solve this I added in
    three lines of code into the 'SpryValidationTextField.js' file that
    is created via DW. Inside of that include look for the following
    code:
    if (!Spry.Widget.Form.validate) {
    Spry.Widget.Form.validate = function(vform) {
    var isValid = true;
    var isElementValid = true;
    var q = Spry.Widget.Form.onSubmitWidgetQueue;
    var qlen = q.length;
    for (var i = 0; i < qlen; i++) {
    if (!q
    .isDisabled() && q.form == vform) {
    isElementValid = q
    .validate();
    isValid = isElementValid && isValid;
    return isValid;
    Right before you return the "isValid" parameter you want to
    check and see if the value is false. If it is, have the page
    refreshed to a specific html anchor. For example:
    if (isValid == false) {
    window.location.hash = "formtop";
    return isValid;
    Where "formtop" is would be the name of your html anchor tag
    on the page. So right before my html form starts I have:
    <a name="formtop"></a>
    Hope that helps ... enjoy!

  • Use Spry Validation with jQuery Form to Form Wizard (v1.1)

    I am trying to use spry validation widgets with jQuery Form to Form Wizard script found here http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex16/formwizard.htm
    This is a script that makes a long form into a multi part wizard/form with next and back buttons.
    for the most part it works with the spry widgets on blur and onsubmit, but to make it work properly the next buttons of the script should be disabled until the user corrects what has caused spry error messages.  The script creator has made onpagechangestart event handler to allow for this.  Description here http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex16/formwizard_suppliment.htm. By returning false from this event handler, you disable the user's ability to go on to the next page until a value of true is returned.
    How can I script for Spry validation to return false if it has errors from this event handler?
    Thanks in advance for any help,

    did you check this example:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/form_submission/Submit_and_Validate_Form.p hp.html

  • Spry validation. Providing additional error msg.

    Hi all,
    I have a couple of pages with large forms on them. Each field has Spry validaton for required / correct format etc. By the tme the user has got to the submit button at the bottom of the page, they may not see the that some fields have been highlighted in red due to failed validation.
    I would like to be able to add an additional error message next to the submit button that is triggered should any of the fields fail validation.
    Have looked at the JS files that Spry creates and they just make my head spin!
    Can this be easily achieved and how?
    Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

    After browsing through the forums, found the solution. This is exactly what I was looking for -
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/validationwidgets/Single_error_message_onS ubmit.html
    Here's the code if anyone is interested:
    Either put this Javascript inside your head tag or add it to an extarnal Javascript file which is what I prefer.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
              var errorsOnSubmit = function(form){
              var ret = Spry.Widget.Form.validate(form);
              var errorZone= document.getElementById('error_zone');
              if (!ret){
                errorZone.style.visibility = 'visible';
                errorZone.style.color = 'red';
                }else{
                errorZone.style.visibility = 'hidden';
              return ret;
    //-->
    </script>
    Add the error message where you want it to appear:
    <span id="error_zone" style="visibility:hidden;">Errors: There are some errors in the form. Please correct them.</span>
    Add the onsubmit to your form tag:
    <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action="" onsubmit="return errorsOnSubmit(this);">
    There you go, a nicely placed error message that works with Spry validation.

  • Spry validation textfield errors are appearing as regular text

    I am trying to create a simple email contact form using two spry validation text fields and one spry validation textarea. I inserted a spry validation text field called "Name", and then a second below it called "email" and then a spry validation textarea called "message" I gave the email field an email validation to come on at Blur, and a textarea character count validation of no more than 400 characters. The problem is that the error messages are appearing as soon as the page is loaded, they are bypassing their initial states. They say: "A value is required.Invalid format." and "A value is required.Exceeded maximum number of characters."

    I build a sample a while ago that shows you how to generate and destroy validations on the fly.
    http://www.spry-it.com/examples/spry-widget-validation-generation-and-destroy/
    Check out the source for how its done.

  • Spry Validation - Advanced Customization

    Hi,
    I am creating a form and using the spry validation widgets for Dreamweaver Cs3. By defualt when a form is in the valid state, the input field turns green.
    What I would like to find out is, is it possible to use an image/background image e.g. small "tick" icon to display at the side of the input for validation rather than the input itself? I know the invalid states have span classes that control the error messages, but I am not sure which class style I can target to use an image for my valid state rather the the default green input field.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    I found a link to an adobe lab demo which does exactly what I want but unfortunetely does not show how to do it and what version of dreamweaver it is using.
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/formsvalidation/index.html

    If you look at the source for this page you will see the following lines -
    <div id="theRating">
    More code here
    Then:-
    <img src="images/ok.gif" title="valid" etc....
    Copy this line into the required position on your page (don't forget to create the image ok.gif).

  • Spry Validation and OK

    I am using the source code form text validation demo as a
    model
    </tr>
    <th scope="row">Zip</th>
    <td><span id="Recipient_Zip">
    <input type="text" name="Recipient_Zip" />
    <img src="images/ok.gif" title="Valid" alt="Valid"
    class="validMsg" border="0"/>
    <span class="textfieldRequiredMsg">A value is
    required.</span><span
    class="textfieldInvalidFormatMsg">Invalid
    format.</span></span></td>
    </tr>
    The OK image shows up all the time right when I load the form
    rather then when I enter text.
    You can see the whole form at
    http://ufsflowers.pointinspace.com/aafes_order_b.php
    I assume it is jsut something I am not seeing in the demo
    source code but can someone point me in the right direction

    Hi fmpdan,
    In a nut shell, any time the widget performs a validation, it
    will place a specific CSS class name on the top-level element of
    the widget which indicates the name of the state. Designers are
    supposed to use these states to define CSS contextual selectors to
    show/hide messages and images of their choice. If you are using
    code from the demos, then you need these CSS rules:
    .validMsg{
    display:none;
    .textfieldValidState .validMsg, .textareaValidState
    .validMsg, .selectValidState .validMsg, .checkboxValidState
    .validMsg, .radioValidState .validMsg{
    display:inline;
    The rules above hide any elements with the class "validMsg"
    on them. They become visible automatically when the element has a
    parent with one of the valid state classes on them.
    Be sure to checkout the documentation here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/Docs.html
    Which will tell you what the validation state CSS class names
    are for each widget, so you can define your own CSS contextual
    selectors.

  • Spry Validation in Spry Detail Region

    I am trying to pre-populate an "update" data form using a
    spry detail region. Basically a list of users is displayed on the
    left, and the detail in a tab on the right. A second "edit" tab
    displays a form that is populated with data from the spry dataset
    using a detail region (just as the first detail tab). However, the
    spry validations within the detail region do not work.
    Download
    this zip.
    Thanks for looking.

    Hi jmortimer,
    What you need to do is trigger the constructors for your
    validation widgets every time the region updates. To do this, you
    need to either move the constructor calls into your region, *or*
    call the constructors from an onPostUpdate observer on your region.
    To see an example of this, look here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/accordion/AccordionSample2.html
    Just a note ... don't move the constructor for your tabbed
    panel into the region. Leave it where it is today.

  • Spry Validation Confirm Widget

    Ugh.  This is driving me nuts!
    I've used the Spry Validation Confirm Widget successfully before, but for some reason I can't spot, I get this error message every time I try to load the page: Spry.ValidationConfirm ERR: The element ConfirmPasswordWidget doesn't exists!
    The JS and CSS files are linked as follows in the head section.
    <!-- Link the Spry Validation Password JavaScript library -->
    <script src="SpryAssets/SpryValidationPassword.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <!-- Link the CSS style sheet that styles the widget -->
    <link href="SpryAssets/SpryValidationPassword.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    <!-- Link the Spry Validation Confirm JavaScript library -->
    <script src="SpryAssets/SpryValidationConfirm.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <!-- Link the CSS style sheet that styles the widget -->
    <link href="SpryAssets/SpryValidationConfirm.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    The code in the body looks like this:
          <form id="Passwordform" name="Passwordform" method="post" action="">
            <table>
              <tr>
                <td><label for="password1">Password:</label></td>
                <td><span id="ValidatePasswordWidget">
                  <input name="password1" type="password" id="password1" value="" size="20" maxlength="20"/>
                  <span class="passwordRequiredMsg">A value is required.</span>
                  <span class="passwordMinCharsMsg">The minimum number of characters not met.</span>
                  <span class="passwordMaxCharsMsg">The maximum number of characters exceeded.</span>
                  <span class="passwordInvalidStrengthMsg">The password strength condition not met.</span>
                  <span class="passwordCustomMsg">User defined condition not met.</span>
                  </span>
                </td>
              </tr>
              <tr>
                <td><label for="confirmpassword">Re-enter password </label></td>
                <td><span id="ConfirmPasswordWidget">
                  <input type="password" id="confirmpassword" value="" size="20" maxlength="20" />
                  <span class="confirmRequiredMsg">A value is required.</span>
                  <span class="confirmInvalidMsg">The values do not match</span>
                  </span>
                </td>
              </tr>
              <tr>
                <td> </td>
                <td><input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" />
                </td>
              </tr>
            </table>
          </form>
    The scripts are declared as follows:
    <script type="text/javascript">
       var sprytextfield1      = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfield1", "none", {validateOn:["blur"], minChars:7, maxChars:7});
       var password1           = new Spry.Widget.ValidationPassword("ValidatePasswordWidget", {validateOn:["blur"], minAlphaChars:3, minNumbers:1, maxSpecialChars:2, minChars:3, maxChars:8});
       var ConfirmWidgetObject = new Spry.Widget.ValidationConfirm("ConfirmPasswordWidget", "password1", {validateOn: ['blur']});  </script>
    The actual code is shown below (it doesn't allow me to attach it).
    I know this is a lot to ask, but can anyone see the reason why I'm getting this error?  Looks to me like ConfirmPasswordWidget exists!?

    Folks -
    I have narrowed down the cause.
    This error appears if the form to which the confirm validation is applied is inside an if condition that is not met, causing the form not to appear in the html source.  It doesn't seem to affect the password validation similarly, just the confirm validation.
    Doesn't this have to be bug?  I'm not fluent in Javascript, so I'd sure appreciate someone telling my how to work around this.
    This is the structure that causes the error to be generated, but only when condition is FALSE.  If condition is TRUE, no error is generated.
    <?php if (condition) { ?>
      form with confirm validation
    <?php }; ?>
    Help anyone?

  • After Spry validation how to redirect to a "you have successfully register" page

    I am helping a friend set up a webpage for her business.  You can see the website here www.themessagetext.com.  I used a Spry validation for the phone number and the checkbox.  One the validation is verified, I want the user to be redirected to a page that says that they have successfully register.  Right now it takes you to an ugly page.  It looks like an error page, but it says that you have successfully register.
    I am using Internet Explorer 7.  I am also using CS4 Dreamweaver.  I am also usingSpryValidationCheckbox.css - version 0.4 - Spry Pre-Release 1.6.1 and SpryValidationTextField.css - version 0.4 - Spry Pre-Release 1.6.1
    I am new to web design.  So if you can be as specific as possible I would appreciate it.  I don't even know where in the code it tells the form after it is submitted to redirect to this certain page.

    Sorry I did post the wrong code for the wrong page.  Here is the code for the right page.  The more I thought about it I figured it was a design problem.  Should I post it somewhere else since this form is for Spry.
