Spry vertical menubar ie6 issue

I am having some trouble implementing a simple vertical menu
in ie6. Works great in everything, but on ie6 the lower nav button
jumps up to the upper nav button any time the page is refreshed. It
fixes itself as soon as you hover over either.

Hi mmannello,
I'm not sure if you've modified the page since you posted
this, but I'm not seeing any jumping when I load your current page
in IE6 ... what I do see is that you have 2 vertical menubars with
one menu item in each. Is that on purpose?

  • Spry Vertical Menubar

    I have created a Spry Vertical Menubar in a templage that I
    am designing and everything is there except that when you hover
    over the Facility Rental button the submenu is too far down on the
    page. When you look at it in Dreamweaver CS3 it looks like it is in
    the correct location that I want it, but it isn't. Here is a link
    http://www.co.chelan.wa.us/ex/index.html
    to the issue I'm having.
    Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Penny

    Hi Penny,
    It looks like you changed the width of the menubar to auto
    for this rule:
    ul.MenuBarVertical
    If you set it to the width that matches the width you
    specified on your menu items, it should cause the menu bar to
    appear in the correct place:
    ul.MenuBarVertical {
    width: 182px;
    Next, it looks like you changed the top margin of this rule
    to 90%:
    ul.MenuBarVertical ul
    margin: 90% 5% 0 95%;
    This is also contributing to the sub menus appearing towards
    the bottom of the browser window. I suggest resetting it to 0% or
    the original -5% and adjusting from there to your taste:
    ul.MenuBarVertical ul
    margin: -5% 5% 0 95%;

  • Problems with Spry vertical menubar in IE

    Help needed! I am creating a template page using a Spry
    vertical menu bar. It works fine in all my browsers except for IE,
    which places a white space on the right-hand side of the menu bar.
    Some of my templates are working fine with similar bars, but I
    can't correct the problem even after re-saving the template using a
    working page. Example page can be viewed at
    http://www.opportunityresources.org/support/index.html
    Thanks for any ideas!

    That worked, but now IE is using the wrong color for the
    vertical menu bar hyperlinks (sitewide) - it should be white,
    rollover to blue, visited white. I suspect it is reading the CSS
    set up for my general page where links are set to gray. Maybe a
    hierarchy issue? Not sure how to force it to separate the two...?
    Thank you!

  • Spry horizontal menu - IE6 issue with drop downs not displaying correctly

    Hello everyone,
    I have an IE6 display issue with a spry horizontal menu on a website I recently developed and hope someone can help me sort it out.
    You can see the live site here: www.callumstrust.org
    This is a site for a new charity so obviously I'm very keen to get it sorted out as soon as I can. The easiest way to view the problem is to either view it in IE6, or view it IE8, turn on the Developer Tools and change the Document Mode to 'Quirks mode'. you'll immediately see that the sub-menus on the header menu display permanently as a full width list, and not as a drop down menu as they should.
    I think the problem lies with the 'width' being set to 'auto' in the ul.MenuBarHorizontal li style. However, I can't seem to get the style right to display the menu on a single line with enough space for text of all the menu items.
    Can anyone advise on how to sort this out? I've not posted any code here: let me know if you need this and I'll happily post it.
    Many thanks,
    chris.

  • Spry Vertical Menubar CSS

    Currently, the sprymenubarvertical.css file applies the
    styles in line 98 through 102 to all vertical menu items,
    regardless of parent/child status. By removing
    ul.MenuBarVertical a.MenuBarItemHover,
    , you can force Spry to acknowledge the parent style for
    single menu items with no children. Not sure if this is resolved in
    a soon-to-be-released version, but this error is persistent across
    all latest browsers with Spry pre-release 1.6.1.

  • Spry horizontal menu goes vertical in IE6

    My site is still incomplete but I was testing the basic
    layout on different browsers, and found that my horizontal Spry
    menu bar at the bottom of the page goes vertical in IE6 (but not in
    any other browser I tested). Any thoughts why this could be? The
    page is
    here.
    On an unrelated note, the left sidebar does not reach all the
    way to the footer in any browser that is not IE. 90% of my traffic
    is from people using IE, but I'd like to fix it if possible. I
    tried using a javascript workaround to making equal length columns
    with CSS that I found on these forums, but could not get it to work
    right across all browsers, so decided to just make fixed-length
    side columns instead. Any help on either problem would be
    appreciated!!

    Have a look at the following piece of code in your modified CSS file
    BROWSER HACKS: the hacks below should not be changed unless you are an expert
    /* HACK FOR IE: to make sure the sub menus show above form controls, we underlay each submenu with an iframe */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe
        position: absolute;
        z-index: 1010;
        filter:alpha(opacity:0.1);
        background-color: #000;
    /* HACK FOR IE: to stabilize appearance of menu items; the slash in float is to keep IE 5.0 from parsing */
    @media screen, projection
        ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE
        display: inline;
        f\loat: none;
        background-color: #F00;
    You have changed the latter two highlighted lines, which you must have done because you felt that you are an expert.
    Sorry to disappoint, because the last highlighted line is where the problem lies. If you replace the f/loat value back to the original left, your problem will have disappeared.

  • Spry vertical menu bar positioning issue in IE

    I have been trying to fix a problem with my spry menu bar and have been looking for answers at several spry forums. I have modified my vertical spry menu to open submenus above and to the right of the main menu. It works in Opera, Firefox and Safari and opens below in IE. I tried changing the positioning from absolute to relative and that made it position itself below in all browsers. So, by deductive reasoning there seems to be something going on with IE when it reads the absolute positioning, is there a fix for this? You can see my website at raydlett.com the menubar is called STUDIO.

    That makes sense, tooltips are tooltips, and appear at the tip of the mouse...But those "submenu triggers" can be simply styled links (as they are in a spry menu)...don't need to be swaps or images or image maps.
    What about a using show/hide behavior? Click the STUDIO and the menu pops up adjacent in an apDiv. Click a link. Or click the x to close the apDiv.
    You know this is just an exercise to run through all the Javascript and Spry that is in Dreamweaver, eh?
    By the way, just providing a link to your page is quite all you need to do. You don't need to attach your files or show pictures of them...by providing a link, I can save a web page in its entirety and open it in Dreamweaver.

  • Spry Vertical Menu Bar Styling Issues

    Hello all,
    I'm having CSS issues with a spry vertical menu bar. The Menu
    is fairly basic but, it has some odd sizing requirements specified
    by it's designer. The designer would like the sub menu items to all
    have different widths that correspond to the actual content within
    them. Here is sample.
    http://staging.rm306.com/cycle/
    The menu seen at the page above was not build with Spry. It
    was build with another tool and has considerable problems with
    consistent browser display.
    Can anyone give me a short list of styles and where they
    should be applied that might help me achieve this reletively simple
    effect?
    I've tried to use Spy menu bars in my projects in the past
    but, there was always some sticking point. I'd like this time to be
    the winner if possible.
    Thanks for your time and patience in advance,
    Kevin

    The sample page I posted came after searching for an easy
    "how to do it". The closest I found to a tutorial was this:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/spryte_menu.html
    The author designs and implements a spry menu with Fire Works
    graphics. The last section describes how to modify the existing CSS
    for multiple levels. Yet I found the sample page easier to follow.
    I hope this helps though.

  • Spry Menu 2.0 issues in IE7..   yes another one!

    I have CS4, and have used the widget browser to create a Spry Menu 2.0 and have imported it to my site. It displays fine in every browser except for IE7. I have been reading a LOT of threads on issues similiar to this one, so I'm prepared to tell everyone I know to upgrade to at least IE8!! However, I would like to fix it if possible. The menu bar is located in an include file and is attached to all my pages through the php function. I have made zero changes to the css code since I imported it into the site.
    I also am wondering why there are two css pages for the menu bar.??

    /* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
    /* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element for selection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu" (MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
    * Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in a selector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6 ignores
    * all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets the specificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs as significant. To get around this
    * problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
    * Since there are a lot of these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes for modern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
    * syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
    * it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
    * So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule.  We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
    * mistakenly override, making sure the  misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
    * We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
    * the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
    * css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
    * If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these, as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js script.
    * The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by  the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser is Internet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditional comments for these rules.

    I love your subject line
    Spry Menu 2.0 issues in IE7..   yes another one!
    It is us as designers/developers that need to create websites for all current browsers. No sense in blaming the browsers, although in this case we could blame Spry Menu 2.0.
    Problem with that is that Spry Menu 2.0 has been successfully tested in all modern browsers.
    This leaves us with just one possibility, the designer/developer has erred somewhere along the line. After having checked the support files (JS and CSS) and looked at the markup, we now go to the constructor and see the following
    var MenuBar = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar2("#MenuBar", {
        widgetID: "MenuBar",
        widgetClass: "MenuBar  MenuBarLeftShrink",
        insertMenuBarBreak: true,
    A comma after the last value.
    I also am wondering why there are two css pages for the menu bar.??
    One is the standard CSS for the menubar and under normal circumstances, should not be touched; the other is for the convenience of the designer/developer so that he/she can tweak the menubar to suit. If you wish, you can combine both. In all cases, keep in mind that the CSS for the standard (basic) menubar should come first, so that the other CSS can override the first.
    This needs to be corrected in your document

  • Spry dropdown menubar works in everything but IE

    I'm having a problem with a site I just launched. The site: www.gmiloans.com/commercial
    When viewed in IE, the buttons that have a menu overlap with the buttons directly to the left. I've researched left and right but for the life of me, I can't figure out a fix.

    Hi,
    Firstly, I cannot see what you have done because the online code has not changed.
    Secondly, have a look here to see what is wrong with your HTML-code.
    Thirdly, have a look at removing your tables and using DIV's instead as per following example

    If you want differing widths for your menu items then add a CSS rule as follows
    <li style = "width: 70px;"><a href="index.html">Home</a></li>
    For obvious reasons, I have not completed your page completely, the above is merely an example.
    I hope this helps.

  • SPRY Vertical Submenu

    I am trying to get the SPRY vertical sub menu to work in IE6.
    View Website
    ISSUES:
    1. Rollover image (arrow) and submenu does not pop up in IE6
    2. Any <ul> used elsewhere in the site, uses the SPRY
    styles, even though I have created a specific class for any
    <ul> other than the SPRY. You can see this happening with the
    "Health Links", it should be using the .BulletedListUL assigned to
    it.
    What am I doing wrong? Please help!
    Kaje

    Hi KajeClarke,
    First, as you'll see using an XHTML validator like
    this one, your page is not
    valid XHTML and has a lot of unclosed tags.
    Even the DOCTYPE of the page is incomplete, it should be
    something like
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0
    Transitional//EN" "
    http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    if you want to stick with XHTML, or change it to an HTML
    doctype.
    This can cause a lot of problems.
    Anyway, the problem at 1) seems to be in your styles_menu.css
    file, where you define styles for ul, li etc in a generic fashion.
    If you exclude this file, you'll see that your menus will open.
    For 2) try to define specific styles like ul.mystyle and use
    that where you need them, instead of affecting alll the <ul>s
    and <li>s in the page

  • Vertical Menubar Displaying Problem

    I have a Spry 2.0 Vertical Menubar that is not working right because it is bigger than the <div> is it sitting in. If it would display over the top of all the other <divs> in the page, I would be a happy camper.  So I put:   overflow:visible;   in pretty much every area of the menubar style sheet and now the <div> to the right which is a rotating picture, moved down the page to fit in the menubar.  And the menu bar isn't working right on top of it (blinking instead of submenus opening).  AAGGHHHH!!!!  Can anyone help me?
    I cannot link to the page on this forum because it is a confidential client site I'm creating that is still in draft mode but I can send an email with the link if you email me first. Thanks in advance for all help!

    Here is the style sheet, just incase that will help.

  • Spry Vertical Submenu - Expanding Box Problem, white background

    Hello everyone. I've recently incorporated a Spry Vertical Menu on my site for the first  time and I'm experiencing problems with the submenu in IE7. (Things look  fine in FF, Safari, and Opera.) A white box appears behind the text area  (the "bios" and "contact us" links).  And....In IE6 the entire menu bar becomes a horizontal mess.
    I've come to learn that this is called an Expanding Box Problem but I  don't know how to fix it. Perhaps this is seperate issue from the white panel issue altogether. I dunno. Can anyone be of assistance? I've been trying  to solve this problem for days.

  • Spry Vertical Menu does not display properly when uploaded to server.

    I am using Dreamweaver CS5 Version 11.0 Build 4909 on Windows XP.  The website I am working on is displaying the ordered list incorrectly.  The drop down submenus are not lined up underneath each other.
    So I did a basic one and uploaded it to the server and had the same outcome.  Locally it looks fine but uploaded to the hosting server not fine.  Below is the code from the document called deleteme.html.  I am new to all this so I apologize if this seems basic.  Thanks for your help in advanced.

    Hello all,
    Thanks to everyone who replied to my post.  I have it working now but I have other issues that I will post separately.
    Here was my thought process and you can tell me if I am right or wrong.  I was working with multiple pages that I was using Spry.  I had only one folder set that all the Spry Assets were being saved into.  My thinking was that they were getting over written.  So I deleted the folder and re-built the page.  When I deleted Spry Assets folder it showed me I had 6 pages linked to the Spry Assets folder.  I also deleted my Spry Assets folder on my hosting server....thought I would really start from scratch.  When I went to upload the files I created a SpryAssets folder and what I realized I had originally put a space  between the y and a of the folder name.  So I am not sure if the elements in the Spry Assets folder were getting over written or it was because I had a space in the folder name.  Thanks again, Mike

  • Spry Accordion Hover/Active Issue

    I have designed a spry accordion widget for a FAQ page and within Dreamweaver CS6 it is fully functional.  The color I've selected doesn't occur with a hover or an active tab once EVERYTHING is uploaded.  Below is a live link to the problem page, my Spry CSS and layout CSS as well as a screenshot of the proper functionality occuring in Dreamweaver.  Thoughts?
