SpryMenu problems in IE

I am so frustrated with trying to get my drop-down menu bar
to work with IE. I see many other have the same problem. How could
Adobe give us such a troublesome product? I have spent hours
reading posts and fiddling with all the settings I can.... and
still, while it looks fine in Firefox and Safari and Opera, it does
not display correctly in IE. On some computers you don't see the
text of the menu, others do show up but the drop-down items are all
ragged on the right, sometimes the items appear then disappear when
you mouseover, etc etc. Does it ever work properly? What do I do?
Help!

I am having the same problem! Added a spry menu bar to my
DWCS3 website. Works great on my computer running WinXP viewed in
Firefox and IE. However, several colleagues have told me that when
they view it (with IE) the navigation text is either missing or the
wrong color until you mouseover the menu bar. I have subscribed to
this thread with the hope that someone will post a diagnosis and
remedy. Hope it is okay that I have added my problem to Jeff's
rather than starting a new thread.

  • More SpryMenu problems in IE

    I'm having a heck of a time with my Spry menu. It worked
    great in Firefox, but the drop-down menus did not display properly
    in Safari or IE. After going through the posts here, I make a
    number of changes, and Safari works pretty well now; and IE menus
    drop down properly now, but most of the text on the menus is not
    there; ie, it is the same color as the background. Sometimes one
    button will appear, but most are gone. When you mouseover, you can
    see the text... any ideas?
    Thanks much....

  • SpryMenu 2 Upload Problem

    Hi,
    It might not be new problem! Everything works on the local host on all the major browsers. When uploading the test page to server (Bluehost), it gives me these two errors:
    SpryMenu.js requires SpryWidget.js!
    and then:
    SpryMenuBarKeyNavigationPlugin.js requires SpryMenu.js
    I couldn't figure it out based on the previous posts, that's why I'm posting this similar question.
    FYI, I have done styling, moved the css files to a unified location, Spryxxx.js files are in the defined Spry-UI-1.7/includes/... location. And here's the start of html file:
    <link href="css/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    <link href="css/SpryMenuBasicSkin.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

    Appreciate your feedbacks.

    Thanks very much, the problem was a corrupt sprywidget.js. I still don't understand, why the local one is working!
    Appreciate your help vw2ureg .

  • Two (2) Sprymenu bar problems

    Hi, there're two issues I need some help:
    1) I inserted a sprymenu bar (lateral) in the maincontent
    area. In the CSS properties, I set "padding" to 0. When I load the
    page into IE browser, it looks OK. However, when I change to
    Firefox 3, there's an extra space shown between the top of the menu
    bar and the bottom of the logo image. I have no clue what could be
    wrong.
    2) I wanted to set the menu bar to extend the entire
    available width: starting from the left edge of the image and
    ending at the right edge of the image. I need some tips on how to
    configure it.
    Here's the link to the page,
    http://www.greenteacritique.com/
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    Put a border: 1px solid lightgreen; or what ever color u need
    in to the ul.MenuBarHorizontal. that should solve your distance
    problem in firefox. Another one hmm... ...don't know ATM.

    /* BeginOAWidget_Instance_2141544: #MenuBar */
    /* Settable values for skinning a Basic menu via presets. If presets are not sufficient, most skinning should be done in
        these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
         These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
        .MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
        .MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
        You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
        They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
            MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
            MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
            MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
            MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
                            and centered in its parent container.
            MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
        In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
        with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets on the same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
        there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.

    /* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
    /* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element for selection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu" (MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
    * Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in a selector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6 ignores
    * all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets the specificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs as significant. To get around this
    * problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
    * Since there are a lot of these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes for modern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
    * syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
    * it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
    * So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule.  We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
    * mistakenly override, making sure the  misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
    * We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
    * the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
    * css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
    * If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these, as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js script.
    * The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by  the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser is Internet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditional comments for these rules.

    Usually, the reason why a widget does not work is because the support files are not-present/corrupt/out-of-date.
    Try using

    it may help. The jQuery version can be changed to a more modern one.

  • Spry horizontal drop down problem in IE

    I would appreciate some help with a project I'm working on. My spry horizontal drop down menu looks best in Apple Safari on a Mac and looks worst in IE 8 on a PC. There are also some problems apparent in Firefox for both PC and Mac.
    The problem in IE is that the horizontal bar is not the correct height even though I have set the height in the css:
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a
        display: block;
        cursor: pointer;
        color: #FFF;
        text-decoration: none;
        font-family: "Arial Narrow", Arial, Helvetica;
        font-size: 10pt;
        padding-top: 0.7em;
        padding-bottom: 0em;
        font-weight: normal;
        background-repeat: repeat-x;
        background-image: url(/2011images/gradientnav.jpg);
        height: 30px;
    The drop downs are the correct size, just the top menu bar that is not the right size.
    The menu bar is the correct height in Firefox and Safari, but in Firefox the menu bar is a few pixels higher than it should be.
    Here's the page I'm working on.

  • Spry Vertical Menu and other problems

    Hi all, I'm having a hard time using DW efficiently.
    Right now I have 2 or 3 problems on this webpage: www.novaparentalidade.com
    From the simpler to the harder:
    How can I make my background grad stay on the bottom of the browser? Right night is set in the CSS for "bottom" but all it does is stay on the bottom, but from the content area, not the browser windows..
    Solution?
    2nd: The background image I'm using in the content area, is not displaying in FF, Opera and IE. Works fine in Chrome and Safari.
    Solution?
    3rd: I've done a lot of searching in google and Adobe but couldn't find an answer.
    My SpryMenuVertical is not working properly in IE.
    What should I do?
    I'll leave you a copy of CSS and SpryMenu.css
    I really need help solving this
    Tks.
    Celso Santos

    I dont know if you have fixed the issues, but the bg image is setting at the bottom and shows up fine in FF.  You can play with setting the bg image to fixed, it then makes your main content area appear to be gliding over the bg...works great with a nice shadow on the container.
    Try reducing the width of your
    .twoColFixLtHdr #sidebar1 {
    See if that does not fix you up.

  • Spry menu problem

    I'm using DW SpryMenubarHorizontal.css. Because my drop-down menu didn't work correctly with IE I made some changes and it works on all browsers. But when I'm in Split or Design view the drop-down menu covers my text and it is quite difficult to work on the document. How can I change my sprymenu CSS so that I can see the text? Thanks for your help.

    Need urgent help. I have been trying to resolve this problem to no avail. I am able to preview my sprymenu on my local browsers opera, google crome, and IE but when it is uploaded, the sprymenu squashes to the left hand side.

    Please get your checkbook ready. (Only kidding.)
    Have you ever done a hard factory reset of your Airport Express base? If not, then try it. Push down the reset button with a pen, then keep it depressed as you plug AX into the wall and keep holding it down until the green light blinks 4 times and then turns amber. Then let go. Unplug your broadband modem for a couple of minutes and shut down your Mac. First restart the modem, then the Mac. Use Airport Setup Assistant to set up a new network from scratch.
    In System Prefs > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations drop n drag Airport to the top of the list and deselect all port configurations that you do not use.
    That's a start.

  • Spry SSI IE8 Artifact Problem

    we have setup our intranet site with several spry menus. So that we do not have to copy content we have master menu files and are using server side includes like the following: <!--#include virtual="/hr/left_menu.asp"-->
    The menus work but we are having problems with how the menu displays. All looks well until we scroll down on the page. The menu displaces and looks like it follows the page content. When we put the menu code directly into the page this does not happen. When you mouse over the 'displaced' menu the position resets to its correct position... sometimes, others it just disappears all together. Help would be appreciated as we are looking at putting this new site into production soon.
    Pic below.... First glance all is as it is supposed to be...
    Then...

    This is probably a stupid question, but have you adjusted the links to supporting files within your menu include?
    To put it another way, if you include a file from another dirctory/folder, then all of the links to supporting files (JS and CSS) should be the same as if these files were called from the parent page.
    Better still, place all refered to CSS and JS files within the parent document and strip the included document from all code with the exception of the menu markup and the menu constructor.
    For more info read here http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/sprymenu/ssi.php
    I hope this helps.

  • Different backgroundimages problem

    Created in CS5 a site. created editable region on template for backgroundimage.
    when I put a picture of a table on page1 as a backgroundimage and then put a picture of a chair as a backgroundimage on page 2.
    The picture on page1 is also changed to a chair.
    Does anyone know what I do wrong and how I can get a different picture as a backgroundimage on every page?
    Thanks

    Hi Nancy,
    sorry to bother you again.
    But I didn't succeed in changing the backgroundimage in one of the divs on
    my side.  I created only a big mess, and reversed the changes.
    It's about this image.
    #main_image {
    background-image: url(../images/tekst_foto_5.jpg);
    Finally I have the side online and you can see how it looks right now (
    www.ooglaserhome.nl). I'm from the Netherlands and therefor my site is in
    Dutch.
    But I also send you a page and the dwt file and css file and some
    backgroundimages. Can you have a look and perhaps comment in the file were I
    have to make the changes so that I can change the backgroundimage on the
    different pages.
    As you can see I also have an other problem and that is about the sprymenu
    that I'm using. In IE8 the dropdownmenu opens behind the backgroundimage
    below the menu. But in other browsers like Opera, Chrome and Firefox this is
    no problem and opens the submenu on top of the backgroundimage.
    Many thanks in advance
    Ron

  • A problem with threads

    I am trying to implement some kind of a server listening for requests. The listener part of the app, is a daemon thread that listens for connections and instantiates a handling daemon thread once it gets some. However, my problem is that i must be able to kill the listening thread at the user's will (say via a sto button). I have done this via the Sun's proposed way, by testing a boolean flag in the loop, which is set to false when i wish to kill the thread. The problem with this thing is the following...
    Once the thread starts excecuting, it will test the flag, find it true and enter the loop. At some point it will LOCK on the server socket waiting for connection. Unless some client actually connects, it will keep on listening indefinatelly whithought ever bothering to check for the flag again (no matter how many times you set the damn thing to false).
    My question is this: Is there any real, non-theoretical, applied way to stop thread in java safely?
    Thank you in advance,
    Lefty

    This was one solution from the socket programming forum, have you tried this??
    public Thread MyThread extends Thread{
         boolean active = true;
         public void run(){
              ss.setSoTimeout(90);
              while (active){
                   try{
                        serverSocket = ss.accept();
                   catch (SocketTimeoutException ste){
                   // do nothing
         // interrupt thread
         public void deactivate(){
              active = false;
              // you gotta sleep for a time longer than the
              // accept() timeout to make sure that timeout is finished.
              try{
                   sleep(91);
              }catch (InterruptedException ie){
              interrupt();

    You can also try to provide a greater Priority to your player thread so that it gains the CPU time when ever it needs it and don't harm the playback.
    However a loop in a Thread and that to an infinite loop is one kind of very bad programming, 'cuz the loop eats up most of your CPU time which in turn adds up more delays of the execution of other tasks (just as in your case it is the playback). By witting codes bit efficiently and planning out the architectural execution flow of the app before start writing the code helps solve these kind of issues.
    You can go through [this simple tutorial|http://oreilly.com/catalog/expjava/excerpt/index.html] about Basics of Java and Threads to know more about threads.

  • J2ME problem with threads

    Hi all,
    I would like to ask you for a help. I need to write a small program at my university. I started to write a midlet which function would be to countdown time for sports activities. I woul like to start a new thread - the one that counts down - and at the same time make the main thread sleep. After the "countdown" thread finishes, the main thread wakes up and waits for user input. The problem is that when the "countdown" thread finishes his work, I've got Uncaught exception java/lang/NullPointerException. error and the midlet halts.
    Below you can find the code

    Groovemaker,
    Your Licznik class has a member m of type monitor, which has not been instantiated (in other words is null) hence, when calling m.put() you get NullPointerException. Please also mind, that using Thread.sleep(1000) is not an accurate way of measuring time.
    If I may, please use recommended for Java class naming conventions - some of your names use lower case, while other don't which is confusing to the reader.

  • Problem with threads within applet

    Hello,
    I got an applet, inside this applet I have a singleton, inside this singleton I have a thread.
    this thread is running in endless loop.
    he is doing something and go to sleep on and on.
    the problem is,
    when I refresh my IE6 browser I see more than 1 thread.
    for debug matter, I did the following things:
    inside the thread, sysout every time he goes to sleep.
    sysout in the singleton constructor.
    sysout in the singleton destructor.
    the output goes like this:
    when refresh the page, the singleton constructor loading but not every refresh, sometimes I see the constructor output and sometimes I dont.
    The thread inside the singleton is giving me the same output, sometime I see more than one thread at a time and sometimes I dont.
    The destructor never works (no output there).
    I don't understand what is going on.
    someone can please shed some light?
    thanks.
    btw. I am working with JRE 1.1
    this is very old and big applet and I can't convert it to something new.

    Ooops. sorry!
    I did.
