SQL Azure blog post cannot be accessed unless I log in with LiveId

No idea where else I could have posted about this, so I post here. MSDN Blogs seem to have no support forums.
The following two links:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlazure/archive/2010/08/13/10049896.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/appfabricannounce/archive/2010/08/13/finding-blocking-queries-in-sql-azure.aspx
lead to the same blog post.
Previously I could open that post no problem using any of the two links no problem at any time even without being logged in with LiveId. No more - now whenever I try to open it I'm required to log in. This happens all the time for the first link and sometimes
for the second link too. If I Google for "find blocking sql azure queries" the first hit looks like below.
I believe it should be this way. How can I get this fixed?

Hi Dmitry,
Please try it again, I just check we can visit it with annonymous access.
For the search issue, it might be caused by Search Robot setting in the blog.
You can also contact the blog author to check what happens:

  • SQL Azure sync service-- absurdly slow and fails after a few days

    Hello. We have been trying to use Azure Data Sync to replicate an on-premise MSSQL database to an SQL Azure database for read-only access by a customer. This was working for a while, but stopped syncing after a couple months(12hr auto-sync schedule) with
    no errors in the log. I had to re-create the sync group, but now it takes even longer than originally to try to sync, and never actually completes, as it gets interrupted by bi-weekly server restarts... It used to take a few hours to sync the new data in our
    database(which is appended to daily)-- but this time it fails after 4+ days... It was unacceptably slow initially(IMO), but now it's clearly unusable.  The original initialization of the data when I first set it up was less than 2 days of syncing.
    It seems there is a throttle on the Azure sync service. Is this true?  Would it be best to clear the SQL Azure database now and re-sync? Is there a way to pre-load the SQL Azure database with MSSQL on-premise data via a SQL backup file or something?
    Please advise. Thank you.

    when you re-created the sync group, does the member databases/hub database have pre-existing data?
    when synching a sync group for the first time, make sure databases don't contain the same set of data, otherwise, you will run into conflicts which will completely slow down your sync...
    I deleted the initial sync group because it wasn't syncing(auto or on-demand), nor creating a log entry with an error indicating why.
    So, I simply deleted the sync group and re-created it with the same exact databases and settings. I did not delete all data in the SQL Azure database-- I was under the assumption that the sync service, with the tracking tables were smart enough to not get
    confused with pre-existing data, but apparently that's not how this works?
    I obviously can't delete the data in the source database(MSSQL on-premise), but I could delete the tables in the SQL Azure database if that's supposed to fix the problem-- then we'll just have to wait multiple days for it to be completely re-initialized,
    hopefully without error... Is there a way to seed the data in some way to prevent this extremely log first sync?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Need a better way than killing connections in SQL Azure - Governor

    I've been pushing the boundaries of  SQL azure (S0 and S1) recently.
    I'm at a point where normal T-SQL code needs to be optimized for SQL azure, I was surprised that all Microsoft have done was enhance the governor process and kill the connection  rather than slow down the connection, guess this was the easy path to
    use.
    Simple T-SQL statements like MERGE need to be rewritten to support large data (1 million rows).  Given you need to batch core T-SQL commands you need to answer yourself is this the correct approach.  Also had the same issue using SQL Bulk Copy
    but tweaked a few settings to get around that issue.
    S0 & S1 still haven't got the same IO as Web/Business edition hence Microsoft need to fix this ASAP.
    Is SQL Azure worth that extra hassle compared with other DB engines?
    Micatio Software Free IIS Azure Web Log App

    Hi Jan,
    Its not the command timeout (for example set as 0 in SQL management studio).
    I've seen it many times where the last wait type is the LOG GOVERNOR.
    A few minutes later the status is set as KILLED/ROLLBACK.  I can get around the issue by batching the MERGE statement  and it works fine.
    I would understand if the MERGE was running for 1-2 hours and I've seen the same thing occur when using a bulk insert command in C# (resolved by limiting the batch size, streaming, etc.).
    The azure version is Microsoft SQL Azure (RTM) - 11.0.9230.176.
    The log governor does kill connections, this is documented on a few sites and MSDN.  LOG GOVERNOR was a SQL Enterprise feature in the standalone product except Microsoft in there wisdom ported it across into SQL Azure to resolve users running bad queries
    on the infrastructure.

  • Any reason when use SSMS on SQL Azure, I cannot access Alter to, but only Create to?

  • Cannot connect to SQL Azure

    Hello,
    I have tried everything I could think of and still did not manage to connect to SQL Azure server instance I have created.
    1) Using the SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2 -
        I get: "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible.  ...."
        I have the 1433 port allowed by my firewall (even placed a machine in the DMZ) and I have added my IP address to the SQL Azure firewall.
    2) Using this app: https://onlinedemo.cerebrata.com/SQLAzureClient/default.aspx
       I get "Unable to retrieve the list of databases...."
       Now, in this case enabling the TCP port 1433 from my network is not even required as I this tools connects directly to SQL Azure. And yes, I have added the firewall rule on my SQL Azure Server.
    3) Using this tool: http://hanssens.org/tools/sqlazuremanager/
       I get a message similar to what I get at 1)
    The only thing that works is the "Test Connection" performed on SQL Azure site.
    Can someone please help?
    Regards,
    Luc

    I cannot connect either using that Omega tool but I have no problem from SSMS R2.
    Let's try something simple: connecting from Project Houston:
    Check "Allow Microsoft Services access to this database"
    Go to http://sqlazurelabs.com. Click Project Houston CTP 1 on left.
    When asked for data center, click the one where your db is deployed.
    Agree to terms
    Enter full database name - somename.database.windows.net -
    along with database name, username, and password. Note: if you didn't allow Microsoft Services access to your database, you'll get an error
    You should now be connected to your database.
    If that worked, at least you know your database is up and running correctly. Now try connecting from SSMS R2. The parameters should be identical,
    except you don't have to specify which database to connect to.

  • Error when accessing the web-based portal for SQL Azure

    Hi,
    when trying to access SQL azure management portal, the following error is thrown:
    [MoreThanOneMatch]
    Arguments:
    Debugging resource strings are unavailable. Often the key and arguments provide sufficient information to diagnose the problem. See
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=106663&Version=5.1.30214.00&File=System.Core.dll&Key=MoreThanOneMatch -
    Looking at the site in question, the problem seems to be Silverlight related. However, I am unable to debug as suggested since the server is located on Microsoft premises. To rule out a wrong password, I did a reset and ruled out typos by copying username
    and password into the field. Furthermore since its not a production database, all IPv4 addresses (range 0.0.0.0-255.255.255.255) are allowed to access the database, so the problem should not be related to ip-based access restrictions. Is this a bug
    in the web interface or is the problem sitting in front of the screen?
    Regards,
    Chris

    Hello,
    I also meet this issue when connect to SQL database without specify database on the login page. But the error disappear when I specify the database name in the database section, for example, master.It may be a bug in Management Portal of SQL Database.

    Hello,
    I am not an expert in MSDTC but as we know,SQL Azure Database does not support
    distributed transactions. This means that SQL Azure doesn’t allow Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) to delegate distributed transaction handling.
    One common cause of MSDTC getting involved in Entity Framework applications is the fact that we close and reopen the same connection as needed (i.e. for each query that is executed).To avoid the stack from opening and closing the connection multiple times,
    you can simply open the connection explicitly and run the queries in the same connectio.
    The following thread is about a similar issue, please refer to:
    http://answers.flyppdevportal.com/categories/azure/sqlazure.aspx?ID=d705a8cf-cba4-494c-96f6-96a136bd29e3
    What's more, you can also try the workaround that involves setting the Enlist option of the SQL Azure connection to false. For the detail explanation, please refer to:Entity

    hi,
    >> this button of excel gets just address of web and have button for import it
         i test it by rest API project , but doesn't work, do you know how it is work?
    Do you mean that you don't know how to get the table? You may input the site address into the address box, and then click go button nearby, select the table you want to import into the Excel. Then click import button.That also works for  rest API,
    and your rest API should get the data that you want
    By the way, this is the forum for discussions about Excel develop(VBA ,customization), better to go to TechNet forum for Excel for Excel features question, so that you could get more professional help.

  • Cannot connect to SQL Azure by allowing Domain Name in Firewall

    *.database.windows.net:1433/tcp is getting resolved as IP address in corporate firewall but the corporate firewall is configured to allow only domain names.Is there a way to connect to SQL Azure without domain name getting resolved into IP.
    All the http traffic are allowed by firewall for blobs,queues and tables.

    Hello,
    Did you means that you connect to the SQL database with IP address? If I understand correctly, you can not rely on the IP address when connect to Windows Azure SQL database.
    SQL database is hosted on a virtual machine at the Microsoft datacenter and shared resource with other databases. Static IP addresses are not supported on Windows Azure virtual machines, it is use dynamic address.
    What's more, one SQL Database keep at least three SQL Server databases replica that are distributed across multiple physical servers in a single data center and automatic cluster failover when a hardware fails on one server. In that case, the real IP that
    is behind server might change in any moment.

  • Using Entity Framework with SQL Azure - Reliability

    (This is a cross post from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5860510/using-entity-framework-with-sql-azure-reliability since I have yet to receive any replies there)
    I'm writing an application for Windows Azure. I'm using Entity Framework to access SQL Azure. Due to throttling and other mechanisms in SQL Azure, I need to make sure that my code performs retries if an SQL statement has failed. I'm trying to come up with
    a solid method to do this.
    (In the code below, ObjectSet returns my EFContext.CreateObjectSet())
    Let's say I have a function like this:
      public Product GetProductFromDB(int productID)
         return ObjectSet.Where(item => item.Id = productID).SingleOrDefault();
    Now, this function performs no retries and will fail sooner or later in SQL Azure. A naive workaround would be to do something like this:
      public Product GetProductFromDB(int productID)
         for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++)
            try
               return ObjectSet.Where(item => item.Id = productID).SingleOrDefault();
            catch
    Of course, this has several drawbacks. I will retry regardless of SQL failure (retry is waste of time if it's a primary key violation for instance), I will retry immediately without any pause and so on.
    My next step was to start using the Transient Fault Handling library from Microsoft. It contains RetryPolicy which allows me to separate the retry logic from the actual querying code:
      public Product GetProductFromDB(int productID)
         var retryPolicy = new RetryPolicy<SqlAzureTransientErrorDetectionStrategy>(5);
         var result = _retryPolicy.ExecuteAction(() =>
               return ObjectSet.Where(item => item.Id = productID).SingleOrDefault;
         return result;
    The latest solution above is described as ahttp://blogs.msdn.com/b/appfabriccat/archive/2010/10/28/best-practices-for-handling-transient-conditions-in-sql-azure-client-applications.aspx Best Practices for Handling Transient Conditions in SQL Azure Client
    Application (Advanced Usage Patterns section).
    While this is a step forward, I still have to remember to use the RetryPolicy class whenever I want to access the database via Entity Framework. In a team of several persons, this is a thing which is easy to miss. Also, the code above is a bit messy in my
    opinion.
    What I would like is a way to enforce that retries are always used, all the time. The Transient Fault Handling library contains a class called ReliableSQLConnection but I can't find a way to use this with Entity Framework.
    Any good suggestions to this issue?
