SQL Dev and Japanese charcaters stored in MDB file

I linked a MS Access MDB file to SQL Developer and when I try to open the mdb file storing Japanese characters it only displays question marks in the data preview.
Opening the MDB file in MS Access it shows the characters correctly.
SQL Developer settings in Tools Preferences:
Environment preference, "Encoding" -->MS932
Code Editor -> Fonts -> "Font Name"-->DialogInput (when copying/pasting the content of the MDB file into the "Sample Text" line it shows up correctly.
I tried to play around with these settings, but without success. Even setting up a Japanese Windows system does not solve the issue.
What settings are required to get the data of the MDB file displayed correctly?

Thread bump. :-)

  • SQL Loader and foreign characters in the data file problem

    Hello,
I have run into an issue which I can't find an answer for. When I run SQL Loader, one of my control files is used to get file content (LOBFILE) and one of the fields in the data file has a path to that file. The control file looks like:
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE 'PLACE_HOLDER.dat'
    INTO TABLE iceberg.rpt_document_core APPEND
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
    doc_core_id "iceberg.seq_rpt_document_core.nextval",
    -- created_date POSITION(1) date "yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss",
    created_date date "yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss",
    document_size,
    hash,
    body_format,
    is_generic_doc,
    is_legacy_doc,
    external_filename FILLER char(275) ENCLOSED by '"',
    body LOBFILE(external_filename) terminated by EOF
A sample data file looks like:
    0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,21,BB51344DD2127002118E286A197ECD4A,text,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\شیمیایی.txt"
    0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,17,CF85BE76B1E20704180534E19D363CF8,text,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\ลอบวางระเบิด.txt"
    0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,23552,47DB382558D69F170227AA18179FD0F0,binary,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\leesburgis_á_ñ_é_í_ó_ú_¿_¡_ü_99.doc"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,17,83FCA0377445B60CE422DE8994900A79,binary,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\làm thế nào bạn làm ngày hôm nay"
The problem is that whan I run this, SQL Loader throws an error that it can't find the file. It appears that it can't interpret the foreign characters in a way that allows it to find that path. I have tried adding a CHARACTERSET (using AL32UTF8 or UTF8) value in the control file but that only has some success with Western languages, not the ones listed above. Also, there is no set of defined languages that could be found in the data file. It essentaially could be any language.
Does anyone know if there is a way to somehow get SQL Loader to "understand" the file system paths when a folder and/or file name could be in some other langauge?
Thanks for any thoughts - Peter

Thanks for the reply Harry. If I try to open the file in various text editors like Wordpad, Notepad, GVIM, andTextpad, they all display the foreign characters differently. Only Notepad comes close to displaying the characters properly. I have a C# app that will read the file and display the contents and it renders it fine. If you look at the directory of files in Windows Explorer, they all are displayed properly. So it seems things like .Net and Windows have some mechanism to understand the characters in order to render them properly. Other applications, again like Wordpad, do not know how to render them properly. It would seem that whatever SQL Loader is using to "read" the data files also is not rendering the characters properly which prevents it from finding the directory path to the file. If I add "CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8" in the control file, all is fine when dealing with Western langauges (ex, German, Spanish) but not for the Eastern languages (ex. Thai, Chinese). So .... telling SQL Loader to use a characterset seems to work, but not in all cases. The AL32UTF8 is the characterset that the Oracle database was created with. I have not had any luck if I try to set the CHARACTERSET to whatever the Thai character set is, for example. There problem there though is that even if that did work, I can't target specific lagauages because the data could come from anywhere. It's like I need some sort of global "super set" characterset to use. It seems like the CHARACTERSET is the right track to follow but I am not sure, and even if it is, is there a way to handle all languages.
    Thanks - Peter

  • 2 Weird Errors In Oracle SQL Dev and Toad

I upgraded to vista 32 bit.
Trying to make a connection to ORACLE SQL Developer.
    I get the following error:
"An error was encountered performing the requested operation:
Error loading native JDBC driver library
    Vendor code 0"
So then I decided to use Toad. In toad I get this:
    "ORA-12170:TNS:Connect timeout occurred"
Can anyone help me get these tools back up and running correctly so I can access some remote databases.
    Thanks so much,
    Jon

When I try sqlplus (which I dont really use) so I hope I am using it correctly.
In command prompt I typeIt seems that you did not provide the TNS connect string when connecting via SQL*Plus to your remote database.
    Do this:
    sqlplus [ Press Enter]
    username: your_user@tns_connect_string
Password: ********What messages do you get?

  • PSE7 Are People and other Tags Stored in Image File

Does anyone know if the People and other tags are stored by PSE7 in the image file? Since there are well defined "Keyword" data fields in both the IPTC and XMP metadata standards, I would think PSE would store them in the image file in addition to whatever it puts in the Catalog. However, none of my other programs that read image metadata (PhotoME, PIE, iExif) are finding anything. Other programs such as Windows Photo Gallery put the keywords in the image file.
I don't have a lot of experience with PSE so perhaps I am just missing something obvious.

PSE stores the "truth" about keyword tags, dates, captions, notes, star ratings, stacks, version sets, albums, and projects in its "catalog" file.  If you change a date, caption, note, or star rating, PSE also writes it back into the file's metadata (the "EXIF").  But for keyword tags, you need to give the command File > Write Keyword Tag to get it written back.

  • Issue w/ ACR v6.x/v5.x and WB settings stored in .X3F files by Sigma SPP converter

    Hi,
if I will use Sigma SPP raw converter (3.5.x or 4.x) to work with .X3F raw files and select "monochrome" WB there and then quit SPP leaving that setting (SPP stores processing settings in .X3F files, almost like you can do w/ .DNG files) then Adobe ACR v5.x / 6.x for whatever reason will allow to process .X3F as a greyscale image, I mean ACR will have a lot of controls disable (like WB, vibrance, saturation, ...). So I need to go back to SPP and change WB settings to anything different from "monochrome" to be able to process .X3F in ACR normally. Can it be fixed or Adobe is using some Sigma provided SDK to open .X3F files and locked into what Sigma says it can or can't ? Because it looks stupid that settings used in Sigma's raw converter are affecting what ACR can or can't do !
    Thank you.

I recently processed some pics inside SPP, and it's amazing how much
better the colors are (a bit too saturated sometimes), I can't get the
same results at all in ACR/LR.
when we are talking about "better" it is a matter of personal preferences... and then you can create your own profiles for ACR, you can't for SPP... then you ought to try SilkyPix for Sigma raws.
I was under the impression that adobe was using a black box provided by
Sigma to read the files (a lot of things point to it : the monochrome WB
    issue, the mandatory noise reduction...)
I doubt it is a black box - they should have a source code, just may be they signed an agreement which limits what they can do ? which makes me wonder whether ISL (SilkyPix) has the same arrangement with Sigma as SilkyPix does not have for example "monochrome" issue (like ACR which gets stuck into B/W mode if the raw file was left marked as monochrome by SPP)... or ISL reverse engineered the file format and wrote the code all by itself ?
    PS:
    Sigma .X3F @ ISO3200 NR by ACR
vs the same by SilkyPix w/o NR and NR done in postprocessing

  • Using SQL Developer and IPC connection

SQL Dev 1.0.0.15 on Windows XP
On the windows PC I am run SQL Dev on I have a Listener & tnsnames setup to use an IPC connection. I did not have the listener setup to use a protocol of TCP. The connection to the db worked fine via sql+. Also I have toad on this PC and it worked just fine via the IPC connection.
I installed SQL Dev and tried to use the IPC connection. It did not work. I kept getting the message of "unable to access the network adapter" or something close to that. The message made sense as an IPC connection does not use the Network or Network adapter.
I ended up setting up the listener to listen for both IPC and TCP and SQL Dev worked.
My question is does SQL Dev use only the JDBC thin driver as it is my understanding the thin driver must use TCP. And is there a method to allow SQL Dev to use an IPC connection.
Here is my currect listener and tnsnames. SQL Dev I simple listed the parms to connect via TCP in the basic tab of the connection dialog.
    listener=
    (description=
    (address_list=
    (address=(protocol=tcp)(host=localhost)(port=1521))
    (address=(protocol=ipc)(key=to2))
    sid_list_listener=
    (sid_list=
    (sid_desc=(sid_name=to2)))
    tnsnames:
    to2.world =
    (description =
    (address = (protocol=ipc)(key=to2))
    (connect_data = (sid=to2)))
    Thanks

As packaged, sql dev uses the thin driver.
I believe that it is possible to dump the thick driver in its place (most likely in jdbc/lib) and use that with the advanced connection tab. I have yet to see anyone submit instructions on how to do it, so I am not of much help beyond saying that it is possible.

  • I can compile objects with SQL dev tool but not with a direct sql

    hi,
This is a bit weird - I'm probably not familiar enough with Oracle's compilation process...
I'm creating a some functions / procedures / triggers. When I run the script to create them with Oracle's SQL Developer tool, usually they become immediately valid, and if not then I can manually right click them and choose Compile, and they're compiled correctly and become valid.
However, when running them with command line tools, they're uncompiled after created. I'm trying compile them with
    ALTER PROCEDURE / FUNCTION / TRIGGER MySchema.MyFunction COMPILE;
    and it always returns
Error starting at line 1 in command:
    alter function MySchema.MyFunction compile
    Error report:
    SQL Command: alter function
Failed: Warning: execution completed with warning
    alter function MySchema.MyFunction succeeded.
and the object remains uncompiled / invalid.
also tried with DBMS_... utils and got the same results.
Same with adding things such as PLSQL_WARNINGS = 'ERROR:ALL' to the stmt
But when I go in SQL Developer to the object, right click and click Compile, it compiles fine w/o warnings / errors and becomes valid.
Is there anything else I should run other than this alter..compile? Is SQL Dev tool doing something different than "alter function ... compile" when right clicking and object and clicking "Compile"?
    thanks!

    hi,
I'm having difficulties connecting with SQL Plus, since it seem to require at startup some admin user/password, which I don't have at the moment. Also tried to give it in command line the db name and params and it still require this pass... Will try to get it...
But again, when I'm right clicking the object in SQL Developer and click Compile, it compiles fine and becomes valid. After doing that, running
    alter function mySchema.MyTestFunction compile;
    passes with
    "alter function mySchema.testfunction succeeded"
If I run this sql before doing compile with SQL Developer, it fails with what I posted before.
I wonder if SQL Developer does things other than the above compile stmt.
If I right click on Functions in SQL Dev and click Compile All or Compile Invalid, I can see the sql it about to generate, and it's the same as I tried - and fails as well... Only when right clicking the object and Compile it works...
A test func I tried, for example:
    create or replace
    FUNCTION testFunction(n in number)
    RETURN NUMBER
    IS
    BEGIN
    RETURN n + 1;
    END;

  • Allow Custom Font Settings on SQL Dev

    Hi,
Well this is just simply a polite bump on my request.
I had posted on the forum about setting font on various SQL Dev component more that two years ago.
2.1.1 UI : Inconsistency Fonts setting on SQL Dev
And put on Exchange here :
    https://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=43135:7:242850196580001::NO:RP,7:P7_ID:23701
Well, to be honest, it seems although each released of SQL Dev introduced new feature, many of the users requested features on Exchange are simply neglected.
Quite sad though, as the Exchange should be considered as the main customers wish to see on the next version.
I just curious to know which any of the top 20 of the request marked as implemented on this SQL Dev 3.2?
Even for this request status is Open for more than two years, and not even a single comment from the team.
Perhaps they don't even care to read the Exchange though.
And this new 3.2 coming out without early adopter release as it used to be.
Well, for the bugs (or missed bugs) I've seen from some of the posts here, would simply have to wait another 6 months from now.
    What a waste....
What I've seen is this long cycle issue has caused lots of retiring 'used-to-be-active' users.
To put on weight for my request,
Isn't it funny that you cannot distinguish the query result grid between 'Oracle' and '0racle' from this 0racle's tool (or was it Oracle's)?

    Hi,
In User Interface perspective, mostly stands for, What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG).
Maybe that's what Sven's referring to, and that's one of the reason I started this thread.
Let's just wait for the team to decide the broad range of Font settings which are customizable, perhaps including Edit dialog as one of the customizable. And let the forums to give their opinion.

  • Restrictions for using sql commands and operators in loader control file

    Hi ,
It suppose that there is a lot of restrictions and limitations when using sql commands and operators in the loader control files, same as it seems I cannot use (or) when with case statement, also it seems there is certain length for the case,
So guys, what are the common limitations and restrictions to be avoided in the loader control file ?
    Your efforts are highly appreciated
    Ash

    Hi Ash,
if you need to do more complicated logic its better to define the file to be loaded as an external table. You can then use any sql function you like against the external table rather than messing around with what you can and can;t do in a sqlldr control file.
You can use the external_table option of sqldr to generate the definition.

  • Export stored procedure using sql dev

    Hi,
I would like to export stored procedure.
I notice there is a menu in sql dev ('Database Export').
It will saves the export in .sql file.
What is this .sql file will contain?
What is the difference between this .sql file and .dmp file in expdp?
What are the advantages and disadvantages in using these methods?
    Thanks.

Any sqldev export is in normal readable format, with CREATEs, INSERTs and such.
EXP/EXPDP in contrast stores binary data only readable with IMP/IMPDP.
IMO, the sqldev method is better for small exports (of few objects and/or data), and EXPDP is better for full schema or DB exports as it's a lot faster.
    Have fun,

  • SQL Dev 2.1:Ability to save and load visual query models?

At SQL Dev 2.1, do we now have the ability to save and load visual query models as with TOAD? Or has that functionality been rolled into the for-pay Data Modeler extension? Seemed strange to hide the functionality deep within SQL Worksheet, then not allow query models to be saved or loaded. From what I recall, load/save was scheduled to be in 2.0.
I've not yet downloaded and installed 2.1, but also as I recall, it was promised to be a significant (e.g. new-feature rich) release. Has it lived up to that promise? Hoping also that it's not so buggy as to not merit an upgrade. At my workplace, folks have different versions of SQL Dev 1.X installed, each for the purpose of retaining functionality that got broken in future releases, etc. Would love to be able to advise them to retire their 1.X installs in favor of 2.1.
Edited by: Dana N on Jan 21, 2010 6:45 AM

Dana, We are working on the query builder. We have not done anything with it in recent releases as we knew that it needed completely overhauled and a
couple of bug fixes were not going to give us the query builder we needed. Sue will be able to tell you more as the we get closer to releasing it as a feature. Thanks Barry. I know it's probably impossible to give firm dates, but my colleagues would love to know, ballpark, when query builder might be ready. Any particular year/quarter that's targeted for?
A lot of the bugs in the 2.1 are probably my fault as we decided to build a framework which allowed tasks to be scheduled like eclipse and push them to the
background. Coupled with this, we tore apart the worksheet to allow us to fit tasks in, but to also give us the ability to do some of the enhancement requests
that you guys, our users, have been asking for. While its not perfect, I believe its getting much better from both a functionality and performance standpoint. The
worksheet will not change again and there are no enhancements logged or scheduled which will do that. The issues that have come as part of 2.1 are being
addressed and we are fixing the highest priority ones as we speak. One of my priorities is to make these components as rock solid as possible. Thanks again. It really is a nice tool to work with, and I'm grateful to have it. I would choose stability for existing features over new ones, but I suppose there always has to be a balance in development. What was really scary in the past was getting bizarre / wrong answers in query results--that's a complete show stopper; e.g. clicking on a row/col intersection in a result set row would show strange and false values. New features can wait, but core functionality must be solid. If one can't presume integrity of query results, it's game over--using a version of SQL Developer that returns inconsistent result sets between runs could be Considered Harmful, or so it is to me.
Anyway, thanks for responding and I hope Oracle Corp gets you whatever assistance you need to improve the quality of existing functionality while adding new features; with one not being at the expense of the other. :-) Glad also to see Sue has authored a book on the tool. Hopefully that will drive customer demand and force increased allocation of development resources toward the product. I'd like to think having out-of-the-box tools that are a joy to use might even increase market share.
Data Modeler I would love to use, but am completely priced out of it. Enterprise Architect from Sparx Systems is the best value there so far as I can tell.

  • SQL Dev 1.5.4+: Scripting DDL and data dumps?

In SQL Dev 1.5.4, can I script a DDL and data dump? If not, what about 2.0? If not 2.0, has anyone requested this functionality so I can vote for it? I find it frustrating that, while doing a Database Export, I can't even pre-declare (e.g. save) the set of objects I want to dump; sometimes, you want to selectively dump, and it's a pain to hunt and peck and select just those you want to dump. Easy if you want to dump everything but 2-3 objects in a large schema. Not so easy if you only need, say, 20 out of 100 objects to be dumped (e.g. for domain or configuration tables--some subset of the whole schema).
I'm really enjoying SQL Developer 1.5.4 by the way. Despite it's flaws, I'm pretty happy with it. Looking forward to 2.0 and beyond. Good work SQL Dev team.
    Thanks very much.

They're all command line tools, so they can all be wrapped up in a batch or shell script. Bummer you can't access them... Hope you find a better solutionThanks K. I should be getting Oracle 10g Express Edition on my desktop soon--critical because we don't have full access to the Development instance. It's like putting changes through a straw over to the DBAs. I'm not sure why Development is locked-down to developers, but that's the way it is.
Any chance that Oracle 10g Express Edition comes with scriptable data pump binaries? Will still need authorization, but maybe that's one way to go. I hate trying to write my own Data Pump in Python or any other language. It's seems a bit absurd to me but I suppose there are reasons.

If i understand correctly you are trying to run SSIS package from Window XP task scheduler.  The reason for the failure may be due to permission while accessing resources required in the package. However it is difficult to suggest without
    looking at the error message.
Scheduled tasks maintains a log file (Schedlgu.txt), in the c:\Windows folder. You can view the log from the Scheduled Tasks window by clicking
View Log on the Advanced menu.
The log file size is 32 kilobytes (KB), and when the file reaches its maximum size, it automatically starts to record new information at the beginning of the log file and writes over the old log file information.
