SQL Developer 2.1.0.63.73 exports DATE as TIMESTAMP

I believe this is a bug. When I export a table to an XLS file, the values contained in DATE columns are saved as if they were TIMESTAMP:
eg. 31-DEC-09 12:00:00 AM would export as 31-DEC-09 12.00.00.000000000 AM
Not really a huge deal until you try to import it back in, in which case you can't import a TIMESTAMP into a DATE column. First, you'll get an error about the AM/A.M. or PM/P.M. missing. You can't explicitly specify the date format during the import either as Oracle rejects it since it's not supported. The proper way is to cast it back to a date, but you can't do that through the import function.
Regardless, I think the export function should export DATEs according to the Date Format NLS settings but it is not.
If it makes any difference, I'm using the 64-bit Windows version of SQL Developer on Windows 7 64-bit with the Oracle 64-bit client.

Hi,
Not sure if this is something related to my previous problem.
My SQL Dev gives the correct date format on exporting to Excel, but fails on export INSERT statement
Vasan, one of the sql dev's team member, gave this workaround which solved my problem
>
You can add the following in the sqldeveloper.conf to ensure that the driver doesn't report the column type of a DATE column as TIMESTAMP.
AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.mapDateToTimestamp=false

as suggested in this thread

  • SQL Developer 3.2 - Exporting data with TIMESTAMP datatype

    Hi,
    We have users that are attempting to export data with the Timestamp format to Excel (xls format) using SQL Developer 3.2.  When attempting to sort the Timestamp in either asc or desc order, Excel is having issues sorting correctly.  I suggested that the user just do all the sorting within their SQL Developer session but they require the ability to slice and dice in Excel.
    This is definitely not an issue with Excel as the users have previously exported Timestamp data from Toad and been able to sort without issue.  Any thoughts as to what might resolve this issue?
    Thanks.

    We're not formatting timestamps in Oracle as numbers/dates in Excel. They'll need to properly format the Excel column/cells to get it to sort the way they want vs being treated as simple strings.

    1. The oracle users APEX_LISTENER and APEX_REST_PUBLIC_USER did not exist, so I ran apex_rest_config.sql from the APEX 2.4.1 patchset whilst connected sys as sysdba and provided the same password as APEX_PUBLIC_USER for both users.
    2. I also ran
    grant insert, delete on APEX_040200.wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups to APEX_LISTENER;
    alter session set current_schema = APEX_LISTENER;
    create or replace synonym wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups for APEX_040200.wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups;

    Any help much appreciated

    Further to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
    So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
    Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit
    Oracle Apex Listener 2.0.8
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
    Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:
    INFO: Error: ORA-02291: integrity constraint (APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_RT$APPROVALS_SGID_FK) violated - parent key not found, occurred during execution of: [CALL, insert into wwv_flow_rt$approvals (user_name,status,client_id,security_group_id,created_by,created_on,updated_by,updated_on) values(/*in:user_id*/?,/*in:status*/?,/*in:client_id*/?,/*in:tenant_id*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?), [tenant_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [client_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [user_id, in, class java.lang.String], [status, in, class oracle.dbtools.rt.oauth.ApprovalRequest$Status], [created, in, class java.sql.Timestamp]]with values: [adminlistener, APPROVED, 3858401374580004, -1, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785]

  • SQL Developer 3.2.20.09 - Database Export generating an unusable file

    I am using the Database Export option in the tools menu to create a script to create schema objects. Unfortunately, the output of the script is not very usable. There seem to be extra '/' throughout the script. Here is a sample:
    -- DDL for Sequence ADDL_INFO_GROUP_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "ADDL_INFO_GROUP_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 2147483647 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 1000 NOORDER CYCLE ;
    -- DDL for Sequence ADDL_INFO_NAME_LANG_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "ADDL_INFO_NAME_LANG_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 2147483647 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 1000 NOORDER CYCLE ;
    -- DDL for Sequence ADDL_INFO_VALUE_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "ADDL_INFO_VALUE_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 2147483647 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 1000 NOORDER CYCLE ;
    -- DDL for Sequence ATTACHMENT_GROUP_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "ATTACHMENT_GROUP_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 2147483647 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 1000 NOORDER CYCLE ;
    Obviously, having both the ';' at the end of the statement and the '/' on the following line will cause an error when the script is executed.
    Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

    In SQLPlus, this script will attempt to create everything twice, resulting in
    ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing objectfor each line.
    If SQL Developer doesn't do this then its SQLPlus compatability is broken.
    This is messy and undesirable for DDL statements, but will definitely result in the wrong behaviour if there are insert statements.

    Hi,
    The "Missing class: oracle.dbtools.raptor.export.ExportObjects" is used in 3.0 (found in oracle.sqldeveloper.jar) but not 3.1. Did you not remember to install 3.1 into an empty directory? That would also be the most likely reason for the issues you encountered in these other posts:
    SQL Developer 3.1EA1 Connected Icon
    SQL Developer 31EA1 SQL Worksheet not allowing entry
    Regards,

  • Sql Developer 3.0.04 hangs displaying CLOB data

    I have two different Oracle instances.
    First is Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.5.0 - 64bit Production.
    Second is Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production.
    Data have been exported and imported in the newest instance. With the same client Sql lDeveloper 3.0.04, I run a query on the same table (in both instances) containing a CLOB column I have different behaviour.
    In the Oracle 9 instance the query returns the right data.
    In the Oracle 11 instance the query hangs without a result.
    Do you have any idea about this behaviour?
    Thanks, Silvio.

    Right, the query does not return any data.
    1. Knowing that the query does not return any data, I got the dump just few seconds after I executed it.
    2. I was opening the table with Object Viewer Data Tab.
    below you will find a dump taken after 30 seconds I executed 'select * from .....' into SQL Worksheet with F5.
    3. I am using the driver inside sql developer installation, I have Oracle 10g client installed but sa far as I know Sql Developer connect Oracle database by java driver.
    4. I am running Sql Developer 3.1.06.44 with Java 1.6.0_11. For other purpose in my machine I have also Java 1.6.0_25.
    Thank you for your replies.
    Silvio.

  • Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.5 Unable to save data in nvarchar2 column

    If I change the contents of a column in a table with Data Editor i get this when trying to save change:
    UPDATE "ADMIN"."T_AZIENDA" SET DESCRIZIONE = 'PIPPO' WHERE ROWID = 'AAAMrpAAEAAAI0XAAA' AND ORA_ROWSCN = '556217'
    One error saving changes to table "ADMIN"."T_AZIENDA":
    no other error is shown.
    If i copy & paste and run the same update from SQL Worksheet i get no error (1 rows updated).
    I have no problem to update other column type (date, number) but only with type NVARCHAR2.
    With SQL Developer 1.5.4 Build-5940 i have no problem.

    Also with SQL Developer 2.1 EA1 i have no problem.
    Thanks.

  • SQL Developer problem. Rows without columns on data tab

    Hello,
    I have a strange behavior in Oracle SQL Developer Version 2.1.0.63. When I'm trying to open the "Data tab" for some tables, SQL Developer shows data rows but without columns! It seems that I can select different rows but I can't see neither any data nor column names.
    Under the filter setting there are no available columns either.
    At the same time, when I'm trying to open sys tables they are displayed normally.
    From the other side, those tables which are not displayed correctly in 2.1.0.63, could be opened in Version 1.5.5 without any problems.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Refer to the SQL Developer forum: SQL Developer for SQL Developer related questions

  • SQL Developer bug? It does not return DATEs if database is only MOUNTED

    I'm logging into a mounted database as SYS to check on things using the V$ views, but any query I do involving DATEs never returns any data. If I remove the DATE column, the query works fine. If the database is OPEN, the query works fine with the DATEs. This is a bit of a problem when I want to check on standby databases for example. Is this the way it's supposed to work?
    Help!

    The original thread appeared to have gone nowhere, so I raised the issue again. If I have violated forum rules, please forgive me.
    I have a choice of using either TOAD or SQL Developer at the site that I have just started at, and I have not used either much. I was leaning towards SQL Developer as its price to functionality ratio is very attractive. However, this issue of not working with a mounted database is a show stopper for me for SQL Developer as I prefer to use a single tool that handles all of the DBA work that I do. So far, TOAD does, and SQL Developer does not.

  • SQL Developer 1.1.0.21: Issues with Data Grid and SQL syntax checking

    In this new release of SQL Dev, when I execute a SQL in the SQL Worksheet and click in the Data Grid in the Results tab and try to navigate within a record using arrow keys, the grid cell enters into edit mode by default and so I cannot use the Left or Right arrow keys to navigate the grid. I am forced to use tab key to navigate. This is counter intuitive in my opinion.
    Is there any option to change this behavior?
    Another issue that I have come across is with SQL syntax checking. In some cases, when I press F9 to execute a SQL, it shows the SQL as executed i.e. shows something like 0.0134 seconds in the toolbar and no results displayed. In reality, the SQL had some syntax error which were NOT reported. This can be frustrating since now I have to fall back to SQL*Plus or TOAD just for syntax check.
    I like the fact that SQLDev highlights the current SQL but it would be more useful if it just indicated the first line of the current sql instead of highlighting the whole sql.

    In the "Results" tab, Click Ctrl & Tab keys (at the same time) or with mouse click on any cell other than the first column (a sequence or rownum), you will be able to navigate using the arrow keys.

    The 0.0134 seconds could be the result of the most recently executed successful statement. Check the Script Output tab for errors. Use F5 (Run Script option) instead of F9.

    On the SQL statement (or code), Right Click -> Format SQL (or press Ctrl & B), proper formatting would help.
    I use version 1.0.0.15.57 and seems to be working allright.

    There are numerous Check and Foreign_key constraints missing in created DDL.
    Im I missing a step?
    rasberry

    Actually all tables were included and the Automatically Include Dependent Objects option was checked.
    For an example, the first table exported A_EMIS_TOXIC_DTL had the following constraints:
    FK_A_EMIS_TOXIC_DTL2HDR     Foreign_Key
    NN_A_EMIS_TOXIC_DTL_ID     Check
    PK_A_EMIS_TOXIC_DTL_ID     Primary_Key
    The primary key constraint was included in the DDL but none of the others.

  • How to exclude schema name from exported files (PL SQL Developer)

    Dear all,
    Just one question: I am using PL SQL Developer. My goal is to export some data (as .sql and .dmp files) from one database and to import them into the another database (both databases have identical structure - test database and production, just different database names and names of schema. In order to make it possible, I need to exclude schema name from generated export file. I believe that it is possible to do it automatically by setting up parameters of PL SQL Developer. How?
    Thank you in advance,
    Kindest regards,
    Dragana

    In the meantime, I have found the answer on my previous question:
    Actually, the initial idea (how to exclude schema name from exported files) was wrong. No need for any intervention.
    Trick is: Schema name can be changed during the import of exported files (PL SQL Developer during import gives possibility: From User (old schema) To User (new schema) .
    Hope that this will be useful info for others.

  • SQL Developer:Problem with multi byte size after import using excel format

    Hi,
    Need your help. I am trying to export multibyte characters from our China instance(r11i instance) using SQL Developer's export data via Excel format into an R12 Vision instance. I have a staging table with exactly the same structure in both instances. Prior to export to excel, I check the byte size of the sample data below using LENGTH and LENGTHB sql functions and these are the results:
    Sample data = 材料LI(USD)
    LENGTH=9
    LENGTHB=13
    Then, I exported the table as excel file. Afterwards, I used SQL Developer to import the excel file into the table of the target instance. I check the bytesize again and here are the results:
    Sample data = 材料LI(USD)
    LENGTH=9
    LENGTHB=17
    The byte size increased from 13 to 17. I did not change anything on the excel file. Just straight forward export to excel file then imported it to the target instance. How come there is an increase in byte size? Has anyone encountered this in SQL Developer? We really need to export the files as excel.

    Wendell,
    This forum is for handling issues migrating from non-Oracle databases to Oracle databases.
    As this is an Oracle to Oracle issue using SQL*Developer export it would be better to open a new thread in the SQL*Developer forum -
    SQL Developer
    There will be more people there who can help with this problem.

  • SQL Developer 31EA1 SQL Worksheet not allowing entry

    When select to open a new SQL worksheet or having open a worksheet on connection, the system will bring up a new tab with the blue shading. It stops at that point. I can not enter anything and if I try and do other tasks, even exit Developer, I get a connection busy error message. If I try and click the try again button it just keeps reappearing. If I click the abort and try and do anything els I get the error again. I have to go to task manager and kill the task to get out of SQL developer. I am using Windows XP, JAVA 1.6.0_26 32 bit versions. Everything was working when I was using 3.0.

    Hi,
    See this post for the likely problem:

  • Problems with printing from SQL Developer Data Modeler 2.0

    Hi,
    I am not able to print my Relational Model (SubView) from Data Modeler 2.0 Build 584. Only an empty page comes out. If I don't reduce the Print Scale (usually to 10-30%) I get something but then it is lots of pages. I have tried A4 and A3 format. Printing to JPEG or PDF seems to be ok.
    I have relational data model with 25 tables in my SubView.
    Is there any restriction on Print Scale or number of objects in the diagram?
    Do I have to install SQL Developer as well? I have just Data Modeler insalled.
    Regards,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
    There is newer version of Data Modeler (3.0 EA2) and it is free
    You can download it from here
