Sql developer 3.0 EA 1 & Oracel server on OpenVMS

For Developers!
We have:
Oracle server on OpenVMS. SQL Developer on Windows XP.
In DBA we have a problem with file names on openvms -
It says about file name like 'DISK$1111:[oracle10g.oradata.db]system.dbf' - not valid.
You must change this bug! Please!
SQL Developer is very good.

Hi,
I see this is your first posting on this forum. Welcome.
When reporting Early Adopter problems or queries, it's much easier for us if you tell us exactly what you are doing when you encounter issues. I can guess broadly where you encounter this error, but more detail means that we get to the exact problem you are encountering. What are you doing when you encounter the error, what is the version of the database and do you have the same issue when connecting to other databases?

  • SQL Developer generates strange trace files on server

    Hello out there,
I observed the generation of some strange trace files on the database server (Oracle 11.0.2.0.2 64bit on Win 2008R2).
Whenever I start SQL Developer (3.2.20.09.87 64bit with JDK 1.7.0_17 64bit on Win7 64bit) for each connection I defined one trace file like this is generated:
    Trace file C:\ORACLE\diag\rdbms\ora\ora\trace\ora_ora_8500.trc

On other servers, similar trace files are generated, one for each connection in my SQL Developer.
This also occurred with JDK 1.6 so I don't think it's a Java issue.
Besides the generation of the trace files there seem to be no other problems.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I think Srini is probably correct. The noted bug applies to 11.2.0.1 and up, is fixed in 12c, and included in an 11.2.0.3 patch. However the version of SQL Developer also affects the creation of trace files on product startup (prior to any user initiated db connect attempts).
    For example,
    A. SQL Developer 3.1.07.42 - no such trace files created.
    B. SQL Developer 3.2.20.09.87 - such trace files created for 11.2.0.1 connections, but not 10g XE or 12c connections.
So I presume an OCIServerAttach call got added in 3.2.2, not sure in support of which feature, but the bug will only impact users of 11.2.0.1, 11.2.0.2, and unpatched 11.2.0.3 DB releases.

  • Sql developer impossible to connect to  the server MSS at localhost

    hi,
plz help i can't connect to sql server 2008 via SQL Developer i want to migrate a database with online migrate.
    thank's

The 'connection refused' error probably means that TCP/IP connections haven't been enabled for the MSSQL server.
However, SQL Developer doesn't work with the microsoft driver, you must use jtds.
To find out why the connection tab isn't appearing try running sqldeveloper from <sqldev>\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe. This will open a console which may show useful information.
Remember you need to select the JAR file, not the directory.

  • New to Oracle SQL Developer

Getting the followung error, which I assume is a privs error, when using debugger:
Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_DEBUG=TRUE
    Executing PL/SQL: CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP( '10.200.10.79', '3824' )

    ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP", line 68
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    Process exited.
    Please advise.
    Thank u

I just got this working yesterday. I'm using SQL Developer on my Windows XP box. When I started the Remote Debugger I was prompted for a Port and Local Address. I accepted the default of port 4000 and entered my PC's IP Address as the Local Address. If you're also on a Window's box you get this address by going to the command line and typing "ipconfig".
When your DBA is talking about the Oracle listener being on port 1521 he's talking about the Oracle server having a process on it listening for outside processes that want to connect to the database. I'm guessing that your DBA doesn't understand what you're trying to accomplish. In your case starting the Remote Debugger is creating a listener on your development box which listens for something like ApEx to connect to it. If the bottom left of my SQL Developer I see a little satellite icon that says Debug Listener (Port=4000 Timeout=0 Local address=xx.xx.xx.xx). This lets me know that the Remote Debugger is waiting for a connection.
    Your call...
CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP('remotedb','1521')should be connecting to the box that you're running SQL Developer on, not your Oracle database server. It's values should match those that you set when you started the Remote Debugger.
I followed the tutorial found at:

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler with TFS?

I'm looking for a way to hook up Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler to Team Foundation Server for version/source control. We currently run TFS for all source control repositories and want to avoid installing subversion just for the Data Modeler product.
    Any suggestions would be great

Unfortunately TFS isn't currently supported natively in the tool, although maybe someone else who has manually set it up for manage models will have some advice for you.

  • Sql developer could not fetch any data while running queries?

I have  downloaded  SQL Developer , install jdk1.5.0_22  from the website. Then I run sqldeveloper.exe browse the jdk folder. After that i established the connection but it continuously showing loading..No tables No procedures are loaded . what should i do?

Be careful... SQL Developer requires a JDK or the server JRE (which I believe only comes in 64-bit, so go with the JDK if you are on a 32-bit OS).
Prior to 4.0, the SetJavaHome line in your install directory's sqldeveloper.conf (or sqldeveloper-Darwin.conf on the Mac) must be set, but in 4.0 and above that changes to product.conf under your OS's user settings.  For Windows 7, that would be in...
    C:\Users\<your-userid>\AppData\Roaming\sqldeveloper\1.0.0.0.0\product.conf
Hope this helps.  If not, assuming Windows, run sqldeveloper.exe in the bin directory from a command line console so you can see any standard error output in the console, or do a Ctrl-Break to get a full thread dump of what's happening in the JVM.

Did you perhaps do a custom install? The DB software includes a version of sql developer and, by default, installs it in the sqldeveloper folder of the DB_HOME. Does that folder have sql developer in it?
I suggest that you NOT use the version of sql developer that ships with the database. That version will NOT be the current version.
Download the current version of SQL Developer, unzip it into a new folder and create a desktop icon for it.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
The current version includes many, many bug fixes from that earlier DB version and you will have far fewer probems with it.

  • SQL Developer on Windows 2003 x64 Edition "failed to initialize..."

I am trying to run sqldeveloper on Windows server 2003 x64 and I get the following error:
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000018). Click on OK to terminate the application.
I get this error with the version with jre, and with the version without the jre.
I have Java 1.6 installed on that server (applet shows up under x86 control panels)
I can reproduce this on two different win 2003 x64 servers, but it works fine on a windows 2003 standard (32 bit)
Any idea how to fix this?
    thanks.

This might not be the right place to post this question, but will give it a shot . . .
I've installed JDK 1.5 and downloaded/unzipped SQL Developer on my Windows 2003 x64 server, then launched sqldevelper.bat from the advice given above -- but I get an error saying:

  • Sql developer won't connect with SQL server database on cluster

    Hello,
I have a microsoft SQL server database on a windows cluster. Name for this cluster is like XXX/YYY
When I try to connect to this database with SQL developer, I get a failure, mentioning:
"Status : Failure -Cannot connect to Miscrosoft SQL Server on XXX/YYY"
As far as I know, I have installed the correct jtds driver (version 1.2.5), since I can connect to sql server databases on single server hosts.
Does anyone know how to connect to databases on windows clusters?

  • Issue with migration DB from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 11.2 using SQL Developer Migration workbench

    Hi,
We face an issue while migrating an SQL Server 2005 DB to Oracle 11.2.  It fails during the process.  I hope someone on the forum has seen this before and can give us some advice.
I use the latest version of SQL Developer with JRE included (3.2.20.09).  The JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server 2005 is 1.2.0
Here are the steps we take in the Migration Workbench wizard:
I made an online extract of the SQL Server database.
Using the workbench in SQL Developer I created a migration repository in schema PDM_MIGRATION.
Next I start the migration, it captures the tables fine, but immediately after the start of the conversion I get a failed message without further explanations.
This is the content of the error xml:

Does anybody know what this error means and what steps we should take to continue the migration?
    I see the PDM_MIGRATION.MIGR_FILTER is a type.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Kris

    Hi Wolfgang,
    Thanks for your reply.
This is how the type MIGR_FILTER looks like:
    create or replace
    TYPE MIGR_FILTER IS OBJECT (
      FILTER_TYPE INTEGER, -- Filter Types are 0-> ALL, 1->NAMELIST, 2->WHERE CLAUSE, 3->OBJECTID LIST
      OBJTYPE VARCHAR2(40),
      OBJECTIDS OBJECTIDLIST,
      NAMES NAMELIST,
      WHERECLAUSE VARCHAR2(1000));
I think the repository user has the correct privileges.  This is the overview of privileges it has:
    SQL> select * from dba_sys_privs where GRANTEE in ('PDM_MIGRATION') order by GRANTEE;
    GRANTEE PRIVILEGE ADM
    PDM_MIGRATION ALTER SESSION NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE CLUSTER NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE DATABASE LINK NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE PROCEDURE NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE SEQUENCE NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE SESSION NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE SYNONYM NO

    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE TRIGGER NO
    PDM_MIGRATION CREATE VIEW NO
    PDM_MIGRATION UNLIMITED TABLESPACE NO
    SQL> select * from dba_role_privs where GRANTEE in ('PDM_MIGRATION') order by GRANTEE;
    GRANTEE GRANTED_ROLE ADM DEF
    PDM_MIGRATION CONNECT NO  YES
    PDM_MIGRATION RESOURCE NO  YES

  • How to create a sql server database in SQL DEVELOPER.

    Thanks so much in advance.

    Hi,
Take a look at the main [ SQL Developer page on OTN|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html]. There is a link you should find useful, it's the Getting Started link under the Migration section. This explains how to download and setup the drivers you need to correct to non-Oracle databases. There are also links to online demonstrations on how to create connections to these databases. See how you go with that material.
    It should help.

  • How to get server output in SQL Developer

I am learning SQL Deverloper and am using it in a University environment as well as Oracle test instances at Oracle.
I know my way around SQL some but I am just learning PL/SQL.  I want to run an anonymous block and see output for the "dbms_output.put_line" items.
At school, I enter my block in the "SQL Worksheet" and receive the "anonymous block completed" in the "Script Output" screen.  Then there is a 3rd screen, the name of which I cannot remember, but I believe it is the equivalent of "server output".  When I open it I have to tell it which database I'm using.  Then, I see the dbms output lines in this 3rd section.
The problem is when I am using SQL Developer at work, I see only 2 sections:  "SQL Worksheet" and "Script Output".
I have looked but cannot find an option or a button or a window that is called something like "server output" or "view server output."
Can a more experienced user please help me?
    I am using:
    SQL Developer Version 3.1.07
            Build MAIN-07.42
    Linux x86-64
    (Oracle Internal:
    Instance: http://celalnx38.us.oracle.com:10507/
    tnsnames: 10500)

    Hi Makel,
There are no changes of which I am aware in the Dbms_Output view functionality between the 3.2 and 4.0 releases.
As to your point about confusion, keep in mind the following:
    1. Each Worksheet tab and Dbms_Output tab include the name of the connection in use.  Match on that name when checking output results.
    2. Opening multiple Worksheets on the same connection name will share one database connection by default.
    3. Multiple Worksheets sharing a database connection also share one Dbms_Output tab.  That is by design.
To force worksheets to use unshared connections:
    4. Change the default behavior of (2) via Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> Worksheet -> New Worksheet to use unshared connection.
    5. Or avoid (4's) overhead of always using unshared connections by opening one-off unshared Worksheets: Ctrl + Shift + N from a shared Worksheet.
    Finally:
    6. When using unshared Worksheets, one Dbms_Output tab may be opened per unshared Worksheet.  Note that the names of any unshared Worksheets will appear in Dbms_Output's Select Connection dialog drop down list. That should avoid any confusion.
    Hope this helps,
    Gary
