SQL Developer Not Working "no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path"

Hi,
I have Oracle 10g with SQL Developer 3.0 on Windows XP, they worked well untill I just installed Oracle ODBC (ODAC101040.exe). I started to receive error message "no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path" and I am no longer able to use SQL Developer.
Any solution?

Check on the envirnment variables on the windows. Once you installed the "Oracle ODBC" it might have replaced the Old env. variables that can found in XP "System Properties> advance tab> environment Variables". Make sure you have the right environment variables that point to right directory locations. Update us with your findings.

  • Error "no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path" in SQL Developer 4

    Hi!
I have just installed the latest version of Oracle 12c and the latest SQL Developer (4.0.0.12). I have also JDK 7u25 installed. I run everything on Windows 7 64bit. When I create a local connection in SQL Developer and test or try to connect I get the error: no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path
If I try the exact same thing in SQL Developer 3.2.2 (the one bundled with the latest Oracle 12c) it works fine. In both versions of SQL Developer I have done no configuration and all the settings are the defaults.
I have read all the posts that relate to this error message, but they are all based on older versions or other platforms.
Is there a problem in the default configuration of SQL Developer 4 or a compatibility problem with Oracle 12c? Any ideas of how to fix this?
When I compare the properties of the two versions of SQL Developer I see that most of them are identical, but the java.library.path points to the sqldeveloper/bin directory in v4 and to the sqldeveloper root folder in v3. I don't know if that is significant.
Also the setting "Use OCI/Thick Driver"  under "Database: Advanced" is unchecked, so it seems strange that it tries to use it anyway.
    /nikos

    Nikos:
You should search that ocijdbc11 is installed in a path similar to C:\Oracle32bit\product\11.2.0\client32bit\bin and that this path (or C:\Oracle32bit\product\11.2.0\client32bit) is in your java.library.path.
If you click on Help|About and the Extensions tab you will see a list of some of these.
Click on the Export button and copy the contents to a file or clipboard.  Open the file (or Ctrl/V) in an editor and search for java.library.path.  This is the list of ;-separated folders that SQL looks in. Ensure that this list includes the one where your ocijdbc11 was found.

  • "no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path" error when connecting a TNS database co

    Hi
"no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path" error when connecting a TNS database connection
I have the same problem 'error code' when testing the connection to a database although I have an APEX db that connects without a problem.
I have re downloaded jre & SQL Developer just to ensure all files are where they should be with no luck.
I've also tried most of the suggestions in various threads.
Does anyone know what exactly causes this error?
eg; should I be looking for a file called 'ocijdbc11' & put it into the 'java.library.path' path?
Can anyone explain to a newbie at db connections what I should do?
I'm using the 'thin' client as the checkbox is clear & I don't know what path to enter into the correct file to make this work??
This is & needs to connect as a TNS connection & was working fine until recently, the only change I can think of is a move of files from the 'C' drive but I thought redownloading SQL Developer would slove this.
    Thanks

When you reinstalled SQL Developer, did you install into a new directory (ie rename or delete the old directory first)?
I don't know if system setup contains directory references (which might be invalid after moving the location of SQL Developer). Does renaming your system2.1.1.64.45 directory (in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\SQL Developer) help? Note that your connections are in the connections.xml file in the o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.2.36.55.30 subdirectory of system2.1.1.64.45 - you will either need to export connections before renaming and then import again after or copy this file to test if you can connect.
Finally, the TNS Names directory preference is just a way of telling SQL Developer where to look for the tnsnames.ora file, rather than just assuming it will pick the right one. If you go to create a new connection, do you get the right list of TNS aliases? If not, then set this preference to the directory where the right tnsnames.ora file lives.

  • No ocijdbc11 in java.library.path

    Good day,
I am trying to set up SQL Developer to use TAF; I am frequently getting the error in this subject and am pulling my hair out trying to get to the bottom of it.
    My environment:
    freshly downloaded Instant Client 11.2.0.3
    Full Oracle Client 11.2.0.2
    Freshly upgraded SQL Developer (3.2.20.09)
    Client: Windows 7
    Server: Grid/RAC 11.2.0.3 running on Solaris 10
For starters, I have attempted to follow the wise advice of Gary and Turloch in the following threads:
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2342919
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2319271
I have tried both the Thick and Thin clients. I am not exactly sure what to do next. Any ideas?
Thanks for your time and attention,

    Hi Charles,
You definitely need OCI to use TAF.
If you go to the Help -> About -> Properties tab and scroll down to the name java.library.path, you should see its value is a construction that includes your Windows Path variable.  The Path variable should include a reference to the bin directory of the Oracle client software where the ocijdbc11.dll lives.  If it's missing, then that could be the problem.
Otherwise, reading through some old forum posts, it seems that error can also occur when SQL Developer has difficulty locating the tnsnames.ora file. The recommendation is to specify the location via Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> Tnsnames Directory. However, this case is applicable when Connection Type = TNS, and I assume you must be using Connection Type = Advanced with a Custom JDBC URL.  If ocijdbc11.dll is on the Path, you should have the option of using either TNS or the Custom JDBC URL.
If Path is correct, I am not sure if it is absolutely necessary to set the ORACLE_HOME variable and enable the OCI/Thick driver preference, but it probably could not hurt.
    Hope this helps,
    Gary

  • Sql developer not working which i got when i installed oracle 11g on win7

Hi i successfully instaled my oracle 11g on windows 7,but when iam trying to use my sql developer chich i got by default with 11g is not working ..when i open it its asking me for "select the path of java.exe file" when i browse and given the right path .iits again giving me the same pop and not throughing any error msg at least.
Could u pls help me out on this??

Well, not supported does not necessarly mean does not work, but if you have problem, then your only way is to find a solution on your own or through other fellows who are doing the same.
Anyway, you could ask your question in the SQL Developer dedicated forum, but again, you could have some unexpected issues by working on non-supported config :

  • Profiler in SQL Developer not working

When I run the profiler in SQL developer , I get the following error.
"Directory exists; check if /tmp exists on file system, and oracle has permission to write there. "
This error sounds like an UNIX error but I am running SQL developer on Windows 7 (64) OS. Has anyone seen this or knows how to get around it.
    Thanks so much..

    Hi,
According to the SQL Developer 3.1.04.72 documentation, the "get" command (among others) is not supported:
Help|Table of Contents|SQL Developer Concepts and Usage|Using the SQL Worksheet|SQL*Plus Statement Supported and Not Supported...
so options are limited. If sqlplus is accessible and using it as an "external tool" won't conflict entirely with local policy, these links might interest you:
    Re: sqlplus vs sqldeveloper
    Easy Connect and sqldev.conn issues
Otherwise you may add a feature request for this on the SQL Developer and see if such an enhancement is a priority for the community.

  • SQL Developer not working on Ubuntu 6.10

    Hi all,
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 6.10 and discovered that SQL Developer does not start. It fails with next message:
    sofist@null:~/opt/sqldeveloper$ sh sqldeveloper
    Oracle SQL Developer 1.0
Copyright (c) 2005 Oracle Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
    .: 17: ide.conf: not found
    sofist@null:~/opt/sqldeveloper$

I've read the ubuntu linux 6.10 does not use bash as the default shell anymore. Most linux distributions use bash as the default shell. Ubuntu 6.10 uses a shell called dash. Not sure why ubuntu would change it. So, I don't know if it has anything or not to do with the shell.

  • SQL Developer not working

I installed SQL developers dot rel. 3.2.20.09.87 in my windows XP machine today. The downloadable zip file is available at oracle website http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html.
    Version I downloaded is :
    Windows 32-bit - zip file includes the JDK1.6.0_35      Download Download 209 M
On clicking sqldeveloper.exe , the small Oracle SQL Developer window pops but it goes away in few seconds.
Any pointers to resolve this issue is highly appreciated !

    Hi,
To avoid losing the window before you can read what went wrong, run the sqldeveloper.exe version in directory
    <SQLDev_Install_Dir>\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exeinstead.
If you should need to do a more in-depth investigation, the following offers some good advice on debugging:

  • Does JVM variable java.library.path make sense from native code?

    Hello all,
Well, everybody loads native library from the Java side by calling System.loadLibrary("myNative").
But what if, for example, myNative.dll loads another two libraries itself?
Suppose, when I call java method "initMyNative", it in turn call native function Java_initMyNative(...). That Java_initMyNative(...) wants to load two native libraries and make: HINSTANCE lib01 = LoadLibrary("auxlib01.dll");  // LoadLibrary from capital, it's Win function!
HINSTANCE lib02 = LoadLibrary("auxlib02.dll");  // LoadLibrary from capital, it's Win function! As specified, native LoadLibrary call will look for auxlib01.dll and auxlib02.dll in catalogs which are enumerated in system variable PATH, current catalog.
Does java.library.path make any sense on order of such search?
If not, is there any way of flexible configuring of the catalog in which to look auxlib01.dll and auxlib02.dll for?
    I see some ways:
    * changing system variable PATH - not flexible
    * passing content of java.library.path into native code, parsing it and looking for auxlib01.dll and auxlib02.dll in each catalog listed in java.library.path - too heavy
I hope there is more smart way to do that.
    Thanks, Alex

Thank you Shane for your reply. I actually didnt have to create 2 jar files, one for Java files and one for the dll file. I got an idea from your post and referenced the same jar file twice by saying:
    <j2se version="1.2+" />
    <jar href="HelloWorld.jar"/>
    <nativelib href="HelloWorld.jar"></nativelib>
and by saying that the jnlp file started working from the browser.
Again, thanks a lot for your replies.
    Thanks

  • Help getting SQL Developer to work

I'm just trying to get SQL Developer to work so I can use student databases. I have no intent of being a networker, and I definetly have no intent of failing this class because I can't do my homework.
    Update.
Someone from my Java Class told me to restart the services related to Oracle. I attempted to do so, but got the following errors:

I believe the TNSListener service is the main problem (seeing as when I try to open the database I get an error saying "TNSListener service is not running.") So I looked that up, and it said to check sqlnet.log:

And now I'm stuck again. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh right. I did change the port in an attempt to get Scott to work.
Changed back to port 1521, but still no luck.
I think my problem has something to do with OracleDBConsoleorcl. I get Error Code 2 when I try to start that service up.
    Although...my SERVERNAME_SID is 192.168.15.101_orcl (Directory: C:\app\Davidi\product\11.1.0\db_1\192.168.15.101_orcl)
Which was the IP Address ipconfig set up the day that SQL Developer was actually working. Of course, that IP Address changes every time you restart windows. My teacher suggested that I set up a static IP Address or try setting it to local host, but I really don't know how to do either of those.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

As you have been advised in many of your posts, go study the documentation for whichever specific topic you are interested in.
For me to answer your questions, I would need to go get that documentation.
Then I would need to read that documentation.
Then I would need to write a forum post that interprets what I think I learned from that documentation.
It is so very much faster if YOU go do that instead of posting to a forum and expecting others to do it. You will remember what you study for a lot longer time if you teach yourself.

  • Force encryption on SQL Server not working?

    Hello Everyone,
I'm running SQL Server 2008 64-bit. I've installed a self-signed cert on the box and set  "Force Encryption"  and restarted SQL server.
I setup a client machine to trust the authority of the cert installed on the server. When I connect to that SQL server from SSMS from a client machine and select the "encrypt connection" option in the client Connection properties, SSMS correctly complains
that the cert on the server does not match the computer name I asked to log into . This is because, although the cert is trusted, the dns name dos not match the CN in the cert <- Perfect, exactly what I am expecting.
When I connect to the same SQL server from the same client but  UNCHECK "encrypt connection" on the client, I'm able to login. Considering I've checked the "Force Encryption" on the server, the server should have rejected the connection. Why not?
    Ameer Deen

    Hi all,
We are implementing a Merge Synchronization solution which involves three SQL Servers located on three Azure locations worldwide and one on-premises location. We need to secure communications between all servers. We are evaluating the encryption of all server
    communications through SSL:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191192.aspx
When we configure one server (let’s call it server A) to accept only encrypted connections (with Force Encryption=Yes) we still can connect from other server (let’s call it server B) that do not have the certificate installed. We would expect the server
B to fail in the attempt of connect as server A should only accept encrypted communications and those should need the certificated to encrypt/decrypt everything (commands and data).
We have also review the following forum post that is very similar to this one:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/bde679d9-ff83-4fa7-b402-42e336a97106/force-encryption-on-sql-server-not-working
In all cases the Microsoft answer is:
    “When the
Force Encryption option for the Database Engine is set to YES, all communications between client and server is encrypted no matter whether the “Encrypt
connection” option (such as from SSMS) is checked or not. You can check it using the following DMV statement”
When we run the provided DMV statement to check if encryption is enabled:
-- To check whether connections are encrypted between server and clients
    SELECT encrypt_option
    FROM sys.dm_exec_connections
We get “TRUE”. So theoretically encryption is enabled.
    Then:
Why can we run SQL statements against server A from server B (with SSMS) without any certificate?
Are we wrong when we expect server A to refuse any client that do not have the right certificate?
How can server B, without any certificate, decrypt the data encrypted by server A?
Our intention is to encrypt all server in the same way so all of them will accept only encrypted communications. We are assuming that the Merge Agent will be able to communicate with the Publisher and the Subscriber through this encrypted environment. May
    anyone please confirm ti?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best Regards

I am using Eclipse 3.2 and connecting to an Oracle 10g server. All of my projects were working just fine. I suppose there really is a reason for using the OCI driver.
Windows has a PATH environment variable. That is where windows looks for dlls (at least in this case.)
    There are two possibilities
    1. The system env var doesn't have the value.
    2. However you are starting the application it is resetting PATH. So you need to figure out how it does that and adjust so it does include it. This normally means that you use some other environment variable, specific to the app, which is used in the start up to create a PATH.
