Sql Developer problem on OS X

I am running on SQL Developer on OSX version 10.4.5 every thing seems to work fine except one thing. When I am in the data grid I can not commit my changes. I click the button and nothing happens. The box at the bottom comes up but nothing in it. If i use the sql worksheet write my own update statement it works fine. Any ideas?
thanks

Seemed to work for me on Mac 10.4.5 / JDK 1.5 / SQL Dev 1.0 Build 1467.
Steps
1. Connect to DB using Basic Tab.
2. Navigate to a table on the Connections Navigator and click on the table. This opens the Detail View on right side.
3. Click on Data tab.
4. Hit + (3rd) button on the Data tab toolbar; this inserts a row.
5. Input the values and hit Commit (5th) button on same toolbar.
6. The following message was displayed in Data Editor - Log.
INSERT INTO "EMPUSER"."EMPLOYEE" (ID, MANAGER) VALUES ('MARTIN', 'STEVE')
Commit Successful

  • SQL Developer Problems with Microsoft Word Apostrophes

    Hi,
    I'm trying to copy and paste a list like the following from Microsoft Word to SQL Developer -
    '123','456','789'
    Shouldnt be a problem.
    But when ever I paste it into an sql file in Developer it comes out with different styled apostrophes which SQL Developer does not seem to like -
    ‘123’,’123’,’123’
    Obviously I can just do a find and replace and change all of the problem apostrophes but is there a way to stop the problem occuring?
    It doesnt matter what font I am using in Word, I always get the slanted style apostrophes. But in Developer, if I just normally type an apostrophe, I get the acceptable version - '

    I hate copying and pasting to/from word it does far to many things I don't want it to do.
    A trick that sometimes works for me is to copy in word, paste in notepad, then copy in notepad and paste into SQL developer.
    I have replicated your issue but I have found that even this dosn't work.
    You could write a VBA macro in word linked to the ctrl + c short cut that does a text copy and a find and replace on the special chars turning them into normal ones but I think this might be overkill.

  • SQL Developer:Problem with multi byte size after import using excel format

    Hi,
    Need your help. I am trying to export multibyte characters from our China instance(r11i instance) using SQL Developer's export data via Excel format into an R12 Vision instance. I have a staging table with exactly the same structure in both instances. Prior to export to excel, I check the byte size of the sample data below using LENGTH and LENGTHB sql functions and these are the results:
    Sample data = 材料LI(USD)
    LENGTH=9
    LENGTHB=13
    Then, I exported the table as excel file. Afterwards, I used SQL Developer to import the excel file into the table of the target instance. I check the bytesize again and here are the results:
    Sample data = 材料LI(USD)
    LENGTH=9
    LENGTHB=17
    The byte size increased from 13 to 17. I did not change anything on the excel file. Just straight forward export to excel file then imported it to the target instance. How come there is an increase in byte size? Has anyone encountered this in SQL Developer? We really need to export the files as excel.

    Wendell,
    This forum is for handling issues migrating from non-Oracle databases to Oracle databases.
    As this is an Oracle to Oracle issue using SQL*Developer export it would be better to open a new thread in the SQL*Developer forum -
    SQL Developer
    There will be more people there who can help with this problem.

  • SQL Developer problem

    Hi,
    I have a little problem.
    When I enter SELECT* FROM HR.COUNTRIES; just too see if it's working,everything works fine,except I can't see any results under "Results".
    The same query works just fine in SQL* Plus.
    Please help,I'm new in Oracle.
    Thanx.

    Yes,but i just can't see any results.
    It's driving me crazy!Did you click on the "Results" tab of the bottom pane of your SQL Worksheet in SQL Developer ?
    Did you drag the divider high enough so as to see the results in the bottom pane ?
    Do you see the column headers in the bottom pane ? And no data below it ?
    Did you open up command line sqlplus simultaneously, run the query and see the results in there ?

  • SQL Developer problem viewing tables

    When I connect to a particular database at work I cannot see the tables under a schema I have access to.
    I know that my permissions are correct because i can connect to the same db with Enterprise Manager Console and i can see the tables under the particular schema. In SQL Developer however when i log in, under the connections tab i expand the connection, then expand Other Users, expand the schema i need to get the tables from, I then expand Tables. When i do that last step SQLD acts like it is looking up the tables but then it just hangs and is perpetually looking for the tables. If i try to click cancel that will stop it but then if i click anywhere else in the program im locked up and have to use taskman to kill it off.
    There are a large number of tables under this schema so i have even let this run for 5+ minutes and nothing happens. Like i said i know i have permissions to get to the tables because i can do so in another program.
    Forgot to mention that this is a connection to our live dbs...I can connect and see the exact same tables under the same schema when connecting to one of our archive dbs, so i know that i can actually see tables in the program.
    Im not sure what else to post here to tell you how im setup so ask any questions and ill see if i can answer them.
    TIA for any help or ideas you can give me.
    btw im using version 1.5.3 Build MAIN-5783

    There is a known problem with the performance of the tables node on the connection navigator in SQL Developer 1.5.3 - see Re: Still experienceing problems "tables" node performance. We need to wait until 1.5.4 to get the fix, whenever that is going to be released.

  • SQL Developer problem. Rows without columns on data tab

    Hello,
    I have a strange behavior in Oracle SQL Developer Version 2.1.0.63. When I'm trying to open the "Data tab" for some tables, SQL Developer shows data rows but without columns! It seems that I can select different rows but I can't see neither any data nor column names.
    Under the filter setting there are no available columns either.
    At the same time, when I'm trying to open sys tables they are displayed normally.
    From the other side, those tables which are not displayed correctly in 2.1.0.63, could be opened in Version 1.5.5 without any problems.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • SQL Developer Problem: Connect Database Windows Wont Show

    Hi,
    I have Windows Vista Home Basic and I have installed Oracle XE 10g which works great. However, I need to install SQL Developer too but it wont work. I think it may be a compatibility issue, or else some problem with Java. The thing is that no matter how hard I've tried I couldn't beat all the problems I had with the interface. First of all, when I try to make a new Database connection, the option window won't show. Second, when I enter in Preferences, I cannot choose anything but the general option. Also, I don't know where is the connection window.
    I would appreciate all the help you can provide. Trying to start with my school project....
    Have a nice day. Thanks in advance.
    Mikywan.
    P.S.: Sorry about my english.

    I add these lines at <sqldeveloper>\ide\bin\ide.conf and worked.

  • SQL Developer - problems with the Data Modeller part

    Hi SQL Developer users,
    I can open the Data Modeler pane, but I can't insert any object into the logical model or into the relational model. Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong? Do I need specific privileges to the database, or do I need to install SQL Developer in a different way?
    Thanks,
    Csisz

    Hi Csisz,
    as Ivaylo wrote - it's Data Modeler Viewer into SQL Developer.
    I can't insert any object into the logical model or into the relational modelYou can drag tables from SQL Developer browser and drop them on relational model diagram. If you keep Ctrl key pressed then all child tables also will be imported and shown on diagram.

  • SQL Developer Problems and Feature Requests

    I’m in the process of comparing TOAD to SQL Developer and noticed the following bugs/features in SQL Developer:
    1. An error message is correctly displayed when a database password has expired, but there isn’t a way to go back into the database and change the password for that account. Can this critical feature be added?
    2. There is no option to connect as sysdba or sysoper.
    3. In the “New / Select Database Connection” window, I get the following error when double clicking on an existing connection defined using a TNS Network Alias: Status: Failure – no ocijdbc10 in java.library.path. Any ideas? Connection was initially defined using the Network Alias button. I can connect under the “Connections” window, but not in the “New / Select Database Connection” window. Any ideas?
    4. When displaying data in a table, the filter is not user friendly. You need to enter column names and the correct SQL syntax. It also does not allow you to cut and paste in column names. It would be very helpful/useful if it was more user friendly (GUI based) such as how Sorting is done and/or how it is done in TOAD.
    5. When viewing referential constraints on a child table, it shows you information on the parent, but not if the parent is a child to something else. If you were a parent, it would be nice to see all child and their children’s children. TOAD does a nice job showing parent and child tables via a tree structure.
    6. Comparing metadata between schemas would also be a very nice feature.
    I’m not sure if this is the place to post this but thought I would start here. Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ken

    1: You can always right click and have it open an sql*plus window and that will prompt for the new password. But I do agree that support for this should be built in.
    2: This is a developer tool.. Use OEM for the dba stuff. I think that the worst thing that could happen to SQL Dev is to try to become everything for everyone like TOAD tries to.
    3: Search the forum. Other users ran into this and I believe there is a workaround.
    4: I like the current filtering on tables. So much simpler than most tools. I do agree that maybe there should be an advanced button with a filter builder and agree that column names should be copyable but would cringe if the free-form field disappeared. How many other tools can you write an inline query into the table viewer? Great feature IMHO

  • Re: SQL Developer Problems and Feature Requests

    "no ocijdbc10 in java.library.path"... What should i do with it?
    I get it on the simplest of operations: changing (in fact setting) the connection password for the existing connection (defined by TNS/Connect Identifier). Oh, yes, there're workarounds, particularly export-edit-import, but don't you find it a bit weird?
    BTW, i do not find a Save button there either, won't it be just appropriate? (Not allways a connection one's setting up for is already available on the spot).
    Environment : OS: RHEL4, SQL Developer version: 1.0.0.15.57 (at least that's what About says), java - just stright form Sun, 1.5.0_09_b01; this was one i told SQL Developer to use. The default java in the system is Red Hat 3.4.6-3, though, i haven't changed that - should i?
    TIA,
    Uldis

    I have had this issue with the Connection window with the TNS Connection Identifier method, but it appears to be related in some way to the other Oracle installations you have. For me (I am on Win XP), the error went away after installing the Oracle 10g client with Discoverer 10g Administrator. It then came back when I needed to rebuild my computer and installed my Oracle clients (I have three for various different products) in a different order, but was fixed that time by reordering my Oracle Homes via the Universal Installer and making my 10g Client first (Oracle Universal Installer -> Installed Products -> Environment)
    Alternatives are to switch back to the TNS Network Alias method to record the password (unfortunately, even when entering the connection as a Network Alias it is saved as a Connection Identifier) or to just use the Basic tab instead of the TNS tab.

  • SQL Developer - Problem Exporting Results at times - ver 1.5.3 build 5783

    Hi,
    I have been having intermittent problems with running a query and then trying to export the results into an excel spreadsheet. Sometime I have no problem, it brings up the dialog box and I can export. Other times I select export data and pick xls or other export types and nothing happens. I'm trying to understand what could be causing it to work sometimes and not others. Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Ray

    Export has been causing problems over all versions, but in generally are getting better over time. I suggest you try 1.5.5, which fixes several problems.
    Hope that helps,
    K.

  • SQL Developer Installation Problems

    Hi,
    We are trying to find a workable alternative to TOAD and have tried to install SQL Developer with not much success.... I think I am just about to give up but hope this last attempt to post for help can create a miracle.
    I would appreciate very much if any one knows of a comprehensive document out there that can help trouble shoot the installation problems.
    Let me give you the hardware and software versions first and then the problems.
    1) SQL Developer tried: sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213-no-jre and sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213
    2) JRE tried: JRE 1.5 and JRE 6 (C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03)
    3) Window: XP Professional version 2002 Service pack 2
    4) Hardware: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM
    Problems:
    1) SQL Developer could not find native JDBC. I don't understand why, despite all the variables set in Oracleclient10g_basic in the registry, SQL Developer did not seem to be able to find a 10g client on a network drive. I have to install 10g client directly onto my pc (C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1) to solve this problem.
    2) SQL Developer abruptly disappeared after database login.
    I was able to connect and log into an Oralce 10g database with TNS Connect Identifier approach. There were objects (tables, views, etc) showed up briefly on the left hand side of the SQL Developer and then it just completely disappeared without even an error message or a tearful good-bye.
    The only thing I can find is this error log about EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. After hours searching through OTN for possible mentioning of this error with SQL Developer, I found nothing so far.
    Why is it so difficult to install SQL Developer? Are there a set of un-spoken pre-requisites that has to be satisfied before it can be installed properly? If so, what are they? Path system variable? Registry? Anything else?
    Here's the complete EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error log:

    Is this a java problem? SQL Developer problem? Or something else?
    Thanks in advance,
    a TOAD lover

    The problem you are seeing (the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) is a result of a version mismatch between the JDBC driver being used by SQL Developer and the Oracle client that is found on the path.
    This issue only occurs when trying to use the OCI version of the JDBC driver. The simplest fix is to switch to using the basic connection type and thus using the thin (all Java) JDBC driver. As no Oracle client is required in this case, the version mismatch won't be an issue.
    However, the connection approach you are using should work, and if you wish to try to sort out the problems there, we should be able to further diagnose the underlying cause of the version mismatch.
    To do this, I would need to see what SQL Developer thinks are the potential Oracle client installs, as well as which install it ends up picking. Can you copy/paste the output in the Log Window (Logging Page) that is present after SQL Developer starts (but before you attempt to connect to any database)? There should be a whole series of entries like 'Checking for ORACLE_HOME environment variable' and 'Checking JDBC driver at <some path>'
    These log entries are output by SQL Developer as it tries to sort out the various bits of information about Oracle client installs and thus give a peek at the selection logic being used.
    Oh, and also - the value of your PATH variable would be useful as well. It may be that there is an Oracle client install on the PATH that supersedes the install SQL Developer is finding via the registry or ORACLE_HOME variable.

  • Host variables in SQL Developer not showing decimal places

    I'm a very newbie, taking my first PL/SQL class, so please be gentle! I think this may be a SQL Developer problem, because when I run the same thing from terminal-line SQLplus on my Linux install, it works right.
    I'm working with a procedure, and passing a value out to a host variable. Although the value should have a decimal portion, when I print the host variable, all that prints is the integer portion.
    Here's the entire program:
    set serveroutput on;
    create or replace package mypkg
    is
      procedure myproc
        (p_in in number,
         p_out out number);
    end;--END package mypkg
    create or replace package body mypkg
    is
      procedure myproc
        (p_in in number,
         p_out out number)
      is
        lv_out_num number(7,2);
      begin
        lv_out_num := p_in / 10.0;
        p_out := lv_out_num;
        dbms_output.put_line('p_out is ' || to_char(p_out,'999.99' ));
      end;--END procedure myproc
    end;--END package body mypkg
    variable myvar number
    execute mypkg.myproc(33,:myvar);
    print :myvarAnd here's the output:
    PACKAGE mypkg compiled
    PACKAGE BODY mypkg compiled
    anonymous block completed
    p_out is    3.30
    MYVAR
    3As you can see, myvar should be 3.3, but it only shows 3. However, like I said above, when I do this from sqlplus from a terminal in linux, it works fine. Thus I'm thinking its a SQL Developer thing.
