SQL Developer to migrate SybaseIQ to Oracle
Hello all,
Is SQL Developer compatible for database migration from SybaseIQ 15.4 to Oracle 11gR2?
Hi,
SQL*Developer only supports Sybase Adaptive Server for migrations but not Sybase IQ.
The following URl shows the supported versions -

Sql Developer MSSql Migration, Online data move, image to long raw mapping
Hello,
my task is to migrate a MSSql Server Database to Oracle 10.2.0.4 with SQL Developer Version 2.1.1.64
and JTDS JDBC Driver oracle.sqldeveloper.thirdparty.drivers.sqlserver 11.1.1.58.17.
Capture, convert and online data move works except data mapping from MSSql image to Oracle long raw dataype.
I need to map MsSql image to oracle blob, to achieve online data move!
is Sql Developer online migration MsSql image to oracle long raw possible?
I know that long raw is outdated, but i'm dba and not responsible for the software part.
What options should i try? offline data move? can MS Bulk Copy Program export image data and SQL*Loader import into long raw?
Any experience or tipp?
Thanks
MichaelHi user12132314 ,
I do not see any 'long raw' options on our current SQLServer 2005 data type mapping. (Raw is a separate 2000 byte data type).
The usual route for SQLDeveloper is to go to Blob.
Online - this is simple & automated.
Offline - this actually goes via hex output in bcp to sqlldr, read in as CLOB which is then encoded to blob. (This is automated)
(Online 'Copy to Oracle' option, right click on table, may be of use if advanced features not included in the select such as defaults are not required, it copies over a select * from table, including blobs)
To move you from blob to long raw after migration can be done (easily enough if Oracle database >=10g so the stream does not have to be in smaller 'chunks')
http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:3938270166267830::::P11_QUESTION_ID:702825000306
I can look into this if you want to go down this route.
Note however that long raw has drawbacks and blob is preferred, see

Data Types
LONG Data Type
for example one restriction is:
A table can contain only one LONG column.

1. Weblogic 10.3.6.0 running on Oracle Linux 6.5 with Oracle JRockit(R) (build R28.2.3-13-149708-1.6.0_31-20120327-1523-linux-x86_64, compiled mode)
2. Oracle Apex 4.2.1
3. Apex Listener 1.1.3
4. Apex and Apex Listener running on the Weblogic box above
5. SQL Developer 4.0.2 running on Windows 7 64 bit / Java 1.7.0_55
Updated Apex to 4.2.5 via p17966818_425_Generic.zip patchset. Apex environment running fine as do all applications via Listener 1.1.3
Updated Oracle Listener to the latest version of Oracle REST Data Services 2.0.7
Current Status
Apex Applications and RESTful services are running fine.
Problem
Unable to connect SQL Developer 4.0.2 to Oracle REST Data Services 2.0.7
Error message in SQL Developer - Cannot connect to DEV. HTTP/1.1 403 Target service not allowed
Additional Information
Steps followed -
1. The oracle users APEX_LISTENER and APEX_REST_PUBLIC_USER did not exist, so I ran apex_rest_config.sql from the APEX 2.4.1 patchset whilst connected sys as sysdba and provided the same password as APEX_PUBLIC_USER for both users.
2. I also ran
grant insert, delete on APEX_040200.wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups to APEX_LISTENER;
alter session set current_schema = APEX_LISTENER;
create or replace synonym wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups for APEX_040200.wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups;
as per Oracle SQL Developer User's Guide Release 4.0
3. copied ords.war to apex.war
4. java -jar apex.war configdir /u01/app/oracle/admin/apex/devdomain1/

NOTHING UNUSUAL IN ANY OF THE WEBLOGIC LOG FILES, EXCEPT THAT IT STATES
'Oracle REST Data Services version : 2.0.6.27.18.06' when I've installed 2.0.7.
Any help much appreciatedFurther to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit
Oracle Apex Listener 2.0.8
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:
INFO: Error: ORA-02291: integrity constraint (APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_RT$APPROVALS_SGID_FK) violated - parent key not found, occurred during execution of: [CALL, insert into wwv_flow_rt$approvals (user_name,status,client_id,security_group_id,created_by,created_on,updated_by,updated_on) values(/*in:user_id*/?,/*in:status*/?,/*in:client_id*/?,/*in:tenant_id*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?), [tenant_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [client_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [user_id, in, class java.lang.String], [status, in, class oracle.dbtools.rt.oauth.ApprovalRequest$Status], [created, in, class java.sql.Timestamp]]with values: [adminlistener, APPROVED, 3858401374580004, -1, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785]
SQL Developer responded with an Authentication Failed titled dialog with the following displayed in the body of the dialog

SQL Developer not migrating Sybase data
Hi,
I am trying to migrate data using the SQL developer tool from a Sybase database to Oracle 11g. When using the Migration Repository, I am able to recreate the schema but am not able to export the database content. (i.e. Not able to do the Data Move). I tried doing a Offline migration but the generated datamove files does not have any content. Anyone aware of any issue with the data migration tool with SQL developer ?
I have tied exporting data from the table directly to generate SQL inserts but even this is not helping. Any suggestions ?
Regards,
NelsonHi Nelson,
Could you detail the exact steps you followed and what options you chose at each of the panels in the migration steps ? this will help to see where you may be having problems.

Oracle 11g on Windows XP and version 1.2.1.32.13 of sql developer
BrianHi Brian,
There are 2 ways to migrate your database to Oracle using SQL Developer.
1)Normal Migration
*This is the standard way of migrating a database
2)Quick Migrate
*Quick Migrate is basically the "Normal Migration" with all the defaults chosen and each phase capture/convert/generate and data move performed for you.
*Requires very little intervention and tries to complete the entire migration in 1 go.
*Suitable for only small databases and trying out the tool
*Does not allow you to modify anything during the migration
"What do you mean perform the capture of the SQL Server DB then convert and generate? "
I would suggest having a look at this viewlet. A SQL Server Migration ("Northwind") is performed.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/viewlets/sqlserver.html
The steps are outlined in the doc here
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10405_01/doc/appdev.120/e10406/migration.htm
You can find more viewlets here
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/files/sdmwb_viewlets.html
And the main SQL Developer Migration Workbench OTN page (which links to everything) here
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html
So once, you capture/convert and generate your script to create your Oracle database. You should be able to identify the exact problem with the DDL.

SQL Developer Quick Migration wizard does not list the connections
Hi,
I have downloaded SQL Developer 2.1 and installed it in a different folder with the option to import connection definitions from the previous version (1.5). However, when using [Quick Migration], the connections do not appear in the dropdown. Even if a new one is created...
Does anyone know if there is a workaround ?....
Thank you.Hi Boris,
I see the confusion.
SQL Developer "Migration" features relate to non Oracle databases, like Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, DB2, ...
So Quick Migrate allows you to choose a non Oracle database (connection) to migrate to Oracle.
Moving from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g is really a Upgrade, although sometimes the word migration is used to confuse everyone :)
If you a upgrading an Oracle Application to Oracle 11g then there would be a specific process, check otn for this.
If you are upgrading your own Oracle database to Oracle 11g, then there are a number of ways.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28300/toc.htm
http://kubilaykara.blogspot.com/2008/02/upgrade-oracle-10g-database-to-oracle.html
SQL Developer itself has a Database Copy and Database Export.
Have a read of the doc to see which one suits.
Regards,
Dermot.
SQL Developer Team -
I just downloaded SQL Developer 1.5.
When I try logging into any database, the Logging Page shows:
Source: oracle.dbtools.db.DBUtil
Message: ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified
I've tried setting the NLS preferences to the default ... no dice/
SQL Developer 1.2 works fine.Hi Helder,
I think you're on the right track but when I made the changes you described
Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> NLS parameters
"Decimal Separator" from . to '.'
"Group Separator" from , to ','
"Currency" from $ to '$'I found that, while the error messages did indeed stop, my numbers started being formatted incorrectly.
select to_char( 12345.23, '99G999D99' ) from dual
TO_CHAR(12345.23,'99G999D99')
12.345'23 Note how the single quote appears as a decimal separator and a period appears as the group separator.
Your idea did however lead me to the following workaround which eliminates the ora-12705 error and sets the decimal and group separators properly.
Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> NLS parameters
"Decimal Separator" from . to .,
"Group Separator" from , to (i.e. leave the field blank)The currency separator can stay at its original value, a single $ character. After making these changes the query above returns this.
select to_char( 12345.23, '99G999D99' ) from dual
TO_CHAR(12345.23,'99G999D99')

SQL Developer 1.5.1 and Oracle 8i
Previous versions of SQL Developer complained when connecting to an 8i database, but continued. I have not been able to connect to an 8i database with SQL Developer 1.5.1. Is there a workaround?
I'm fairly certain this topic was started by someone in my organization. I just rolled SQL Developer out to a bunch of developers last week. Some of them can connect to and browse tables on 8i using 1.5.1 (54.40), others cannot.
I'm one of them that can. And my cube neighbor is another that can. The only pattern I can discern is that he and I both once had SQL Developer 1.2 installed, but also have an installation of 1.5.1.
So using account A on an 8i instance, when I connect using 1.5.1, I get a little dialog box labeled "Unsupported Database Version". The message in it is "Database Versions 9.x and above are supported." There is only a Help and OK button. I click OK. I can then browse the tables and do queries on 8i just fine.
When one of the developers having trouble tries to log into the same account on the same 8i instance using the same 1.5.1 (54.40) client, he gets a little dialog window labeled "Error encountered". The message in it is "An error was encountered performing the requested operation:\n Unsupported Oracle database version\n Vendor code 0"
It's like our sqldeveloper.exe client is taking different codepaths under the covers. They can't get into 8i. We can. Same download. Same setup. Same preferences.
For what it's worth, when I run SQL Developer 1.2, I get the exact same scenario as described above. But we already knew 1.2 worked on 8i.
Is it possible that SQL Developer is reading the Oracle homes in my registry and choosing an older thin driver from my 9i Oracle home? It doesn't stick anything in the registry, right, so where else might it share information between the two versions? It seems that my copy of 1.5.1 is somehow either using an older driver (without me having changed anything), or it is somehow using code from the separate 1.2 folder (which seems ludicrous). -
SQL Developer Data Modeling - import from Oracle Designer Model
Hi,
I do want to try to import model from a Designer repository.
The first step is to create connection to the repository (9i version).
I have created the one, however any attempt to test the connection or to go to the next step simply finishes with error "4", without any valueable message.
Any idea or suggestion ?
Thanx.A clarification of the Data Modeling feedback application and this forum. The developers are part of the SQL Developer development team, but as for all our features, each developer has a focus area, so the Data Modeling developers will tend to answer those questions. There will not be a separate Data Modeling forum, so once we're production all SQL Developer Data Modeling questions will be on this forum. We want to encourage all users to get into the habit of tagging posts. Having the posts tagged means that users can skip them if they're not their focus area and users can search using the tags. The more tags are used in all the forums the better. You may well find find the answers to your questions are outside this forum!
As SQL Developer Data Modeling in in its first early adopter phase, we have provide a feedback application, where users can provide feedback, log bugs and ask questions. We did the same for SQL Developer before it's initial production release and found this to be very useful for the product.
I'm happy for "How To" questions to be on this forum, as the answers benefit the broader community.

Reg Migration in Oracle SQl Developer
Hi
I have an access database which i want to copy to oracle database and automate the process . Copied the tables using ODBC (first time ) .
Access database will be updated daily by other application.
Now I have to refresh my oracle database once a week from this access database and i want to automate this process with out any user intervention .
Can anyone give some inputs about the best method to automate this job ?
any other tool is there?
thanks in advance.
Regards,
P.ParthasarathiHi,
I updated a related Re: Automate migration from access to oracle with two suggested solutions to your query - see below:
Based upon the information you've given, I believe that you've got two options here, with my preference being option 1:
Option 1: Migrate your MS Access database to Oracle, using Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench. Then update your MS Access database, replacing the original tables with ODBC linked tables to the newly migrated Oracle tables. This would mean that you can retain the use of your MS Access front-end, if necessary, and any data inserted via the MS Access front-end is stored in your tables in Oracle. You'd have no worry about putting a process in place, as the data is being saved in Oracle.
Option 2: Migrate your MS Access database to Oracle, using Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench. Then use the Migration > Migrate Data menu item in SQL Developer to migrate your data into the new Oracle schema. In order to do this on a weekly basis, you would need to retain your Migration Repository, and simply use the same menu item to migrate the data to your Oracle database.
I recommend that you review the Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench OTN page, and its accompanying documentation, to gain a better understanding of how to use the tool - http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html.
Have you tried either of these solutions? If so, and you experienced some issues, or require additional information, please let me know.

IBM DB2 to Oracle Database Migration Using SQL Developer
Hi,
We are doing migration of the whole database from IBM DB2 8.2 which is running in WINDOWS to Oracle 11g Database in LINUX.
As part of pre-requisites we have installed the Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.1 (4.0.1.14.48) in Linux Server with JDK 1.7. Also Established a connection with Oracle Database.
Questions:
1) How can we enable the Third Party Database Connectivity in SQL Developer?
I have copied the files db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar from the IBM DB2 (Windows) to Oracle (Linux)
2) Will these JAR files are universal drivers? will these jar files will support in Linux platform?
3) I got a DB2 full privileged schema name "assistdba", Shall i create a new user with the same name "assistdba" in the Oracle Database & grant DBA Privillege? (This is for Repository Creation)
4) We have around 35GB of data in DB2, shall i proceed with ONLINE CAPTURE during the migration?
5) Do you have any approx. estimation of Time to migrate a 35 GB of data?
6) In-case of any issue during the migration activity, shall i get an support from Oracle Team (We have a Valid Support ID)?
7) What are all the necessary Test Cases to confirm the status of VALID Migration?
Request you to share the relevant metalink documents!!!
Kindly guide me in-order to go-ahead with the successful migration.
Thanks in Advance!!!

[email protected]Hi Klaus,
Continued with the above posts - Now we are doing another database migration from IBM DB2 to Oracle, which is very less of data (Eg: 20 Tables & 22 Indexes).
As like previous database migration, we have done the pre-requirement steps.
DB Using SQL Developer
Created Migration Repository
Connected with the created User in SQL Developer
Captured the Source Database
Converted Captured Model to Oracle
Before Translation Phase we have clicked on the "Proceed Summary"
Captured Database Objects & Converted Database Objects has been created under PROJECT section.
Here while checking the status of captured & converted database objects, It's showing the below chart as sample:

We have seen only "Missing" in the chart, also we couldn't have any option to trace it in Log file.
Only after the status is VALID, we can proceed with the Translation & Migration PHASE.
Kindly help us how to approach this issue now.
Thanks

DB2 8.1 to Oracle 11g with SQL Developer 3.0
Hi,
I started migrating my DB2 8.1 to Oracle 11g, with SQL Developer 3.0
Basically, I need to migrate TABLES.
I followed these steps:
1) I created a new Oracle database, tablespaces, users, etc.
2) Then, I created both (DB2 and Oracle) connections into SQL Developer 3.0. All works fine.
3) I start capturing one table with the "Copy to Oracle" feature. Done with no errors.
But when I compare the table structure, I see the following problems in Oracle:
a) All fields are NULLABLE = YES. SQL Developer show this field property correctly in DB2: NULLABLE = NO, but not migrated the same!
SOLUTION: All I want is that SQL Developer simply migrating the same value who I have in the DB2. But how?
b) In DB2 I have one field property called COLUM DEFAULT. In Oracle this property is called DATA_DEFAULT. The SQL Developer show this field property correctly for the DB2 tables (for example: 0.0, ' ', etc), but don't migrated the same value! All fields are configured to DATA_DEFAULT = NULL.
SOLUTION: I think this occurs because NULLABLE is migrated with the value YES. Well, all I need is the same above...
NOTE: I tested the SWISSQL DATA MIGRATION software, and it works fine. All tables, field properties and data are migrated sucessfull. But this program is trial version!
Well, I think all of this are BUGS into SQL Developer.
Please, anyone to help me?

YlramWelcome to the forum!

I just did right click in the procedure body and found [Debug, Compile for Debug, Compile, Run].
>
You listed a bunch of things but you didn't say what steps you actually performed and what the result was.
Did you 'Compile'the procedure? until you compile the procedure you can't debug it.
I just created a new procedure and when I select the body it displays in the 'Code' window on the right. But the 'Debug' icon is not enabled because the procedure was not compiled for debug.
When I compile it for debug the 'Debug' icon is now enabled. -
MS SQL Server 2008 Migrating to Oracle 11.2g
Hi.........
Can any body help me how to migrate the MS SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11.2g. Plz do needful ASAP.
Thanks in Advance.
RanjithRanjith,
You can use the SQL*Developer migration workbench to migrate from SQL*Server to Oracle. It is free to download and use.
You can download SQL*Developer from here -
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/overview/index.html
then there is information on migration from non-Oracle systems here -
Oracle Database Migration Technology
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/migration/index-084442.html
From here there is a link to specific information on migrating SQL*Server -
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/migration/sqlserver-095136.html
Please review this information and if you have any further questions or problems it would be better to ask them in this forum -

Database and Application Migrations
One thing I would recommend is that unless the SQL*Server database is very small you make an offline migration. This gives you more control over how it is done and to resolve any problems.

Oracle SQL Developer does not browse Sybase's objects
I had installed and configured jtds-1.2.5.jar in Oracle SQL Developer for Sysbase connection. Oracle SQL Developer does not browse any objects. Why? Can you please provide a solution?
Hi,
Can you provide some more information into what you are experiencing.
What version of SQL Developer are you using?
Did you install the jtds jar under the
Tools > Preferences > Database > Third Party JDBC Driver
Is the Sybase tab available in the new connection dialog?
Did you select the default database in the connection dialog?
Can you run a query against the Sybase database from the SQL Developer worksheet?
Note that JTDS 1.2 is the only supported version. There maybe issues with other versions.

Dermot.
