SQL extraction from network trace?
Anyone know of a way to easily extract SQL statements from a ".cap" file created from a protocol analyzer like "snoop" or MS Network Monitor? It seems too useful for someone not to have created such a utility.
I can use something like Ethereal to browse and view individual statements - but I want to dump all of them to a flat file.
Is there an easy way to trace sql for specific sessions on 8.1.5? I've got an old legacy application that's have problems and I need to understand what SQL it's submitting...

Extract SQL history from 10046 trace files
Hi all,
I need to extract the complete sql history from sql trace files to "debug" a client application.
I know I can read the raw trc file and rebuild the sql history looking for the PARSING / EXEC / FETCH entries.
However, this is a very long and boring manual task: do you know if there is some free tool to automate this task?
thanks

I agree that the 10046 trace captures everything. If I do read the raw trc file I see the DML. The problem is that tkprof's record does not record the DML (maybe it thinks that some DML is recursive sql and it gets misleaded... I am not sure) so I am looking for an alternate tool to process 10046 trace files

How do i get a list of SQL Servers from network?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to get a list of SQL Servers from the network and put them into a drop-down combo box. I try to search on Google and i can only find some C# source codes which doesn't help me at all. I'm wondering if JAVA has the similar method to do so.
btw, I'm using MSSQL Server 2005, JDBC 1.2, JDK 1.6.0_24

true, but you know as well as I do that requirements documents are usually not written by people with the least understanding on those complexities...
And if a company assigns such a project to someone like OP who clearly doesn't know how to deal with such requirements documents, that only shows their morosity all the more clearly :)
Assuming that I'm able to find a list of TCP connections on network, how do I know which of them are sqlserver?That isn't what I said. A "protocol" is a description of a methodology involving functionality and communication which solves a particular problem.
There is a "protocol" which describes how to find MS SQL Servers. You don't make it up yourself. You find the description, read what it says and implement it.Or more likely (like Oracle) there's no such security problem in MS SQL Server and instead it relies on the client knowing the connection details or it'll never find them. -
Extracting SQL statement from a Webi document's data provider using SDK.
Hi all,
Is it possible to extract the SQL statement from an existing Webi document's data provider using BO SDK? I've searched through the class library but haven't found any information on this yet. If you have done it, could you provide some guidance. Many thanks.I found the following Java code that might be of some help to you. I realize you are using .NET but this might push you down the right path.
The trick here is to use the Report Engine SDK to get the DataProvider of the DocumentInstance. Then, look at the SQLDataProvider to get your SQLContainer.
My apologies for the poor formatting. This didn't copy and paste over to the forums very well. I've cleaned up as much as I could.

And more........... I exceeded 30000 character limit at this formI am OK to ignore the error. But better option will be SQL Developer take care of this situation.
My intention is to keep SQL Developer on a readonly share folder and send the path to end users.
Ideally I wish I could use UNC path so that I dont have to worry about the drive mapping. -
After
sql server 2012 installation, I attached my production db. Because of some reasons, i
changed sql engine account from network service user to system user by means of sql server configuration manager.
Now , there isn’t
a problem at sql server running system. But
I have doubts that
this can produce problems later. Because sql server database engine account must have privileges that listed below;
Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
Replace a process-level token (SeAssignPrimaryTokenPrivilege)
Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
(SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
Permission to start SQL Writer
Permission to read the Event Log service
Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service
While sql server installation, setup gives these
privileges to network service user automatically, but changing user by means of sql confugarition manager does not give these
privileges.
Now, system user has privileges listed below. And sql server has been running for 1,5 months without any problems.
Log on as a service (SeServiceLogonRight)
Bypass traverse checking
(SeChangeNotifyPrivilege) (Everyone user has his privileges. So i think that system user has this privilege also)
What problems can occur because of this situation? Shall i give other privileges to system user and restart sql server or not? And how can i give these privileges to system user listed below;
Replace a process-level token (
this can be set from user rights assignments)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
(this can be set from user rights assignments)
Permission to start SQL Writer (
? - give advice )
Permission to read the Event Log service (
? - give advice )
Permission to read the Remote Procedure Call service (
? - give advice )Our server is windows server 2008 r2 enterprise edition. I have looked the bunch of permissions in user rights menu that is in local security policy settings gui.
And i have seen those permissions below were not granted to system user;
Bypass traverse checking (SeChangeNotifyPrivilege)
Adjust memory quotas for a process
(SeIncreaseQuotaPrivilege)
So, briefly you say, don't panic ? -
Tuning: how distinguish PL/SQL timings from SQL in trace and/or tkprof output?
Hi,
we have a performance problem with one of our customer's databases and are trying to tune it out.
The activity in question is a long-running PL/SQL stored procedure operating more-or-less in batch mode, calling many sub-procedures along the way. The PL/SQL code has been instrumented to take timings of execution of different operations, and we are running with tracing on, and analyzing the trace output using TKPROF.
Oddly, even though we are running through 70+ pages of PL/SQL code, with bulk-collect into large tables and nesting of SQL in other SQL cursor loops, TKPROF is reporting SQL times which account for nearly all the elapsed time reported by our log messages. I mean, we're talking within one or two percent of elapsed time.
How can I distinguish the time spent in PL/SQL operations from the time doing an execute or a fetch in SQL? Should I just believe TKPROF when it says all the time is going into SQL?
Thanks in advance...A common problem with Oracle timings is the granularity of the clock can give misleading results when viewed over many itterations. That might not be your issue but it's worth noting. I would suggest you use DBMS_PROFILER if you want to get a more accurate picture of your codes performance. In most PL/SQL processes, the SQL will account for the vast majority of the processing time (maybe even 95%+). You really have to be doing some intense string or analytical processing for that percentage to change much.

Connecting to network SQL Server from SQL Developer
Hi All,
I am trying to connect to network SQL Server from SQLDeveloper but I am unable to connect( I am getting could not connect to SQL Server...). I have searched many sites but could not find the solution. I am giving HostName as MachineName\InstanceName and keeping the port as 1433.
Can anyone explain how that connection string should be given.
Thanks.From help with additional comments
Host Name: Host system for the Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server database.
E.g., sybase.myCompany.org (DNS name or IP address)
Port: TCP/IP Port on which Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server will listen.
As mentioned by others, need to know how server is configured. Common values: 1433, 5000
Retrieve Database: Name of the Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server database.
Once the other data is correct, press this to populate list box and select which database you want associated with this connection. E.g., pixar, pubs2, etc.

Extracting SQL Queries from Crystal Reports
I am trying to find a way or a utility to be able extract SQL queries from Crystal reports into a text file for documentation purposes. These queries are not in the repository, they were entered into each of the reports when the reports were being built and I can't find a way to extract them. Any ideas/suggestions?
Hello,
CR doesn't have the ability, and I don't recall if this has ever been asked previously. Great suggestion for the Idea Place tab in the up right corner of this page.
If you find a developer it's quite simple to get:
// log onto the server and then get the SQL.
rptClientDoc.DatabaseController.LogonEx("van-w-13-dwilli", "xtreme", "sa", "pw");
GroupPath gp = new GroupPath();
string tmp = String.Empty;
rptClientDoc.RowsetController.GetSQLStatement(gp, out tmp);
// show the SQL but easy enough to save the SQL text to a file.
MessageBox.Show(tmp, "Data Source Set and SQL Statement", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information);
Of course you need to open the report first, lots of samples on how to...
Thank you

How could I extract past executed SQL statement from dictionary ?
We use oracle11gR2 on win2008R2.
How could I extract the past executed SQL statement from dictionary ? (Is it possible from V$SQLTEXT or other dictionary table ?)IvicaArsov wrote:
Hi,
You can find executed SQL in V$SQLAREA view (if it's still in memory). If it does'n't exist and you have AWR enabled you can query DBA_HIST_SQLTEXT table, but remember that the statistic information in AWR tables is filtered (1 out of 10).
I.Arsov
As you know when taking snapshot oracle will capture only top sql statements and stored in AWR.
But can you please link(source) dba_hist_sqltext contain only 1 out of 10 filtered data?. In dba_hist_active_sess_history yes it contain 1 out of 10 sampled data. -
RAT - SQL Tuning Set from 9i trace in wrong order
Hi together
I want to test the impact of some staments on 9.2.0.8 in 11g with Real Application Testing, but the order in the tuning set seems to b wrong (not in the traced order). So i made a small Test Script who is creating a Table, insert Data with a loop and select all.
Steps :
* 9i enable trace level 4
* 9i run the script
* 9i stop the trace
* transfer to 11g
* make an sql tunnig set
* running in the Performance Analyzer Workflow
The first run Oracle makes performance datas from the trace files. In the second run I want to execute the statements from the tuning set in the 11g database. The traced Schema from 9i exists.
In the report after the second run I see the failure that the insert and select statement is not allowed. When i take a look in the SQL Tuning Set i see that the select and insert will be played before the create table ! Also on the view DBA_SQLSET_STATEMENTS.
Is there a way to get the correct order in the SQL Tuning Set like the statement order (create before insert,select) ? Or can Oracle not handle DDL-Statements in the trace ?

Alert sends email to requester when PO of Destination Type 'Shop Floor' is received. If e-mail address is extracted from FND_USER and the e-mail address is passed into &EMAIL, could we add &EMAIL to the To field?
Thanks in advance,

SQL*NET waits in trace file
Hi All,
There is a long running query, i generated trace file for this request. In trace file i found that there are huge waits on SQL*Net message from client
The below is the trace file output:
Elapsed times include waiting on following events:
Event waited on Times Waited Max. Wait Total Waited
SQL*Net message to client 16 0.00 0.00
SQL*Net more data to client 17 0.00 0.00
db file sequential read 1450 0.02 4.26
SQL*Net message from client 16 1414.20 2702.84
How to resolve this waits from SQL*NET message from client? I checked the network connection, there is no delays in network.
Any inputs on this issue will be appreciated.As Satish indicated, the "SQL*Net message from client" wait is an event which indicates that the database server was waiting for the next request from the client computer, and not an indication that the query needs to be tuned. Manually review the trace file. At one point in the trace file, you will see this wait event with an ela= value which begins with 14142 - please post to this thread that line from the trace file along with the 20 lines before that line and the 20 lines after that line. You may just have a long wait on this event at the beginning, and another long wait on this event at the end of the query.

Hi,
Depends on datasource type but you could have a look at ODBC trace or if you have access to the SQL Server you could use profiler to monitor the session.
