SQL Geometry View in SQL Server 2008 R2

I will preface by saying I'm not an expert on SQL Spatial and am just learning to use the Geometry functions...
I am an analyst for a county government and am trying to do the following... we have a parcel dataset that has around 100k features and I'm trying to run a view that finds what county supervisor district each polygon is located within.
If I use the code below I get 2 different values for a parcel where polygons are not coincident.
polygonA = parcels
polygonB = supervisor districts
SHAPE = geometry storage field
(polygonA.SHAPE.STIntersects(polygonB.SHAPE) = 1)
If I use the code below on a small set of data, I get the desired results, but if I try to execute this on our entire parcel dataset, SQL Server times out.
(polygonA.SHAPE.STCentroid().STIntersects(polygonB.SHAPE) = 1)
We are using SQL Server 2008 R2 with Geometry storage.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated in how to improve the performance of the query...if possible.

If I use the code below on a small set of data, I get the desired results, but if I try to execute this on our entire parcel dataset,
SQL Server times out.
You could create a
Spatial Index on your data to improve performance; see
CREATE SPATIAL INDEX (Transact-SQL)

  • Why is the LookUp object in the Flow Task of my SSIS package going red (and not working) ? Sql Server 2008 R2

I have been working with the Sql Server 2008 R2 SSIS Tutorial at
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms170419(v=sql.105).aspx
--specifically -- Lesson 1.  I have been having some problems with this lesson where the source data from the samples download doesn’t exactly match the data described in the tutorial, and the tables in the tutorial are different from what
is contained in AdventureWorksDW (tutorial refers to DimTime – AdventureWorksDW contains DimDate and no DimTime).
So, after futzing in BI with this tutorial  so that I can at least get it to run in Debug – it errors out on the 2nd LookUp object.
Rather than looking for a fix to the problem(s) that I am having between the tutorial and the stuff I downloaded in the samples --
I want “Adapt” the tutorial so I can use the stuff I downloaded and hopefully learn how to use SSIS with the elements (source data and tables) that are present on my workstation.
Here is a description of what is going on for me – which I really don’t understand what is going on in BI – based on the images below – like what columns (from what tables) are they associating to in the OleDB Destination?
Note:  the sql in the LookUps here is the sql that I copied from the tutorial.
I probably need to modify these sql statements – so -- the help I am requesting is to make the required modifications/changes
so that I can adapt this tutorial with the stuff that’s on my workstation.
I downloaded the samples and the AdventureWorksDW mdf for Sql Server 2008 R2.
It turns out that in the tutorial it wants me to select a DimTime table, but the version of the AdventureWorksDW db does not contain a DimTime table.
Instead, it contains a DimDate table.  So I tried adapting DimDate for the tutorial.
Additionally, the sample data file -- SampleCurrencyData.txt -- has slightly different data types than the types described in the tutorial, so I selected data types for the columns in the datasource text file that would work in BI would to
connect column from source data file to the table.
After finishing all the steps for Lesson 1 -- when I tried debugging the package – and it error'd out on  the 2nd Lookup object whichwent red.
I edited the lookups and the sample Ole DB Destination to "ignore on fail” and I did all
green but the FactCurrencyRate table is not being populated -- as described in the tutorial, so I reset the on error back to default (Fail on error option).   And based on this tutorial -- I believe FactCurrencyRate
table is the table which is supposed to be populated with the data from SampleCurrencyData.txt?
In the sample data file that downloaded with all the samples  I removed all the data from the text file except for 6 rows, so instead of the original 1100 or so rows, I have only 6 rows of data in the source data file (just to keep things
simple for debugging for now).  I did not modify the data itself.
Here is what the (raw) data contained in SampleCurrencyData.txt looks like (from the samples that I downloaded from codeplex) – it’s supposed to be 4 columns of data – float, nvarchar, datetime, float:

Thank you for your reply.  I changed the error handling as you suggested on the 2nd lookup to redirect to unmatched rows.  Now I get all greet.  I don't have the conditional split as in your diagram.  But also, nothing appears to have
happened in the DB.  Aren't the rows in my text file supposed to be added to the FactCurrencyRate table?
How do I get a conditional split?
    Rich P
OK, sorry I forgot to reply you back.
Conditional Split was just dummy task. Ignore it.
Manipulate the data in such way that you get matching records.
Inside Source, for first 2 rows I put the dates which are available in DimDate.
    1.00010001,ARS,7/1/2005 0:00,0.99960016

    1.00050025,ARS,9/8/2001 0:00,1.001001001
Then in OLE DB Destination, I loaded the rows to TestFactTable.
(Now, you don't even need NO MATCH OUTPUT as there are matching records here)

  • "Value cannot be null" error when trying to edit or create Maintenance Plan in SQL Server 2008

I have SQL Server 2008 installed on Windows Server 2008 64bit, every time I try to open or create a new Maintenance Plan I receive the error:
    Value cannot be null.

       at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.DatabaseMaintenance.MaintDesignerMenuHandler.Invoke()
And in the Design view screen
"Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is unable to load this document: Could not load type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.runtime.Wrapper.IDTSPackageSigning100' from assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSRunTimeWrap, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral'.
I have searched for a possible solution and have tried some suggestions of registering the msxml6.dll but and have installed VS2008 SP1 but I'm not in a position where I can do a full reinstall of SQL Server right now. Any help is appreciated. My SQL server
    environment information is below.
    Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
    10.0.1600.22 ((SQL_PreRelease).080709-1414 )
    Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools

    Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.4206
    Operating System 6.0.6002

I digged a little deeper and figured out it was a missing directory/file in %TEMP%. Seems some CleaningTool removes all files/directories in %Temp% and after that SSMS was not working any longer. The missing file is actually not needed, but the
missing directory causes the "Value cannot be null" error.
    My missing file name was:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\2\6vvdaozf.tmp
But the file name changes on every startup.
So my missing directory name was:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\2
After creating a empty directory with the name "2" in %TEMP% all went back to work fine for me.
I'm not sure the directory name is every time the same, but you can discover your missing file with the process monitor from Sysinternal Tools and filters to "Process Name is ssms.exe" and "Path contains AppData\Local\Temp"
Hope this helps other people to solve their issues too.
Thank you!! When I run %temp% it takes me to "C:\Users\Admin ...~\AppData\Local\Temp\some random number". At first the random number was 3, after I logged off and back on it was 2. My temp variable in enviromental variables is correct. I looked on another machine
running SQL2008 and temp is correct there. If I try to rename the numbered folder SSMS stops working. Any idea?

  • SQL Server 2008 Intellisense not working

I've seen a post about this here: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3371737&SiteID=17
I've installed SQL Server 2008 and for a few weeks, intellisense was working fine.  The past week, it has stopped working entirely.  I'm running version 10.0.1442.  In Tools-->Options-->Text Editor-->Transact-SQL-->Intellisense, the option to "Enable Intellisense" is turned on.  I've also made sure that SQLCMD Mode is turned off.  I've disconnected a reconnected to my database several times with no luck.  I can try to uninstall and reinstall like the guy in the post I've referenced did, but if I can help to try to find out what's wrong here, I'm willing to wait for a while before doing so.

Hello to everyone this is my first post and I hope I'm doing right.
Anyway, I had the same issue with the IntelliSense. I think I messed up installing the Express Edition over SQLServer 2008 R2.
I'm not an expert, but I think this corrupted my environment.
This was driving me crazy and even if it's not an essential tool, I was looking for another solution, I didn't want to install again everything.
So I started to look at the Option window and I played with its settings.
For the ones who don't know...
    Tool > Options > Text Editor > Transact-SQL > IntelliSense.
But 'Enable IntelliSense' was ticked, so I unticked and saved.
I opened the view again and I ticked them again.
Magically my IntelliSense started again to work fine.
    Hope to be helpful.
    Cheers.

  • Can I use Same ADF application with SQL server 2008 as well as Oracle 11g?

in the configuration file, there is code like this <sectionGroup name="userSettings" type="System.Configuration.UserSettingsGroup, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" >. In this issue, it seems the application tried
to call the LandingPage.exe version 4.0.0.0, and this version is not existing in the machine. That should be the cause. So would you please kindly to check if LandingPage.exe 4.0.0.0 is existing?
As a workaround, Please try deleting the following sub folder to see if this will work:
    Driver:\users\(my profile)\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation
If you can't see AppData folder, please using following steps to show hidden files:
       1. Open an explorer window, hit "ALT-T" choose
Folder Options then go to the view tab.
       2. Turn on
Show hidden files, folders or drives and disable Hide protected Operating System files (recommended)
    Please read the following blog:

If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks

Please kindly mark the answer if it is a workaround. Thanks a lot *^_^*

  • Error attaching Adventureworks 2008 db to SQL Server 2008 [not R2]

    Hi ppl,
I have SQL Server 2008[NOT R2] installed in my laptop [Windows Vista Home Premium, 64 bit].
    There are 2 issues:
    1. Downloaded the AdventureWorks 2008_SR4 from the link :
     http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/37109 .
but wasn't able to install it due to an error - database Installer stopped working and had to close the program.
Hence my friend installed it his laptop and sent me the .mdf and .ldf files.
    2. I tried attaching the databases using SSMS2008, but it is showing Error:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

    For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=10.0.1600.22+((SQL_PreRelease).080709-1414+)&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Attach+database+Server&LinkId=20476

I have checked the version of sql server opened in SSMS and it is 2008 itself
I cannot find any other Non R2 AdventureWorks file for 2008.
Any help would be appreciated greatly.
    Thanks,
    Chips.

    Hello Chips,
database version 655 is SQL Server 2008, 661
is SQL Server 2008 R2, so your friend send you a database file of a newer version, which you can't attach to a older version. I guess your friend uses 2008R2, the database is upgraded automatically to this version.
Have a deeper look at CodePlex, Version 2008 is still available there.

  • Problems with SQL server 2008 nvarchar type to varchar in oracle.

    Hello
I did an Heterogeneous Connectivity between SQL server 2008 db and Oracle 11g, so far so good, but when i try to view colum data on RPD (only varchar type) i only see the first character of the string.
One more thing, when i try to see the data on Oracle SQL developer i get some strange characters, like when we have the wrong character encoding on our browser.
Some print to illustrate the problem.
    Oracle SQL developer query:
    http://postimg.org/image/5cvyqw6ih/
    Microsoft SQL developer query :
    http://postimg.org/image/skddx991f/
    RPD printscreen :
    http://postimg.org/image/aok2337cp/
SQLplus  (as you can see the are spaces between the characters ) :
    http://postimg.org/image/664xw1xjh/
To finish the data will be use to build an mobile app with oracle mobile app designer.
    Thank you

The spaces you see between the characters when using the gateway indicate a wrong charset is being used.
    1. Which gateway are you using - DG4MSQL or Dg4ODBC?
    2. Could you please post the gateway init file and just in case it is DG4ODBC also the odbc.ini file
    3. What's the character set of the Oracle database?
    4. Looks like you're connected using Putty to a Unix box - what is the Putty NLS setting?
    5. What is the NLS setting when starting SQL*Plus and what is the LOCALE setting?
    6. Was a NLS_LANG parameter set when the gateway was started? Please change in your gateway init file the HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL to DEBUG, then run again the query and post it to a share.
=> There's a note that guides you step by step to configure the gateway and your env correctly - please have a look at:

  • JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 - Panel Dashboard using Data from SQL Server 2008

    Hi All,
I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 and am trying to create a cross application dashboard. This dashboard would show 2 panel's of data from an Oracle Database (Already completed this) and two panel's of data from a SQL Server 2008 Database.
I have successfully installed a SQL Server 2008 database locally on my machine. I have downloaded the JDBC drivers from the Microsoft website and I have two JAR Files:
    * sqljdbc.jar
    * sqljdbc4.jar
I have created a SQL Server connection within the JDeveloper connections panel and I can successfully query my database.
I have created a New application module and set its connection to a JDBC connection with the credentials specified within the Connections tab. I then added the two JAR files as libraries to the Model project and
ran the Application Module tester. This succesfully shows some records.
Within the View Project I Created a new page and dropped the View Object on as a table. I then go to Run the page and get an error relating to the JDBC drivier not being found. I have read a few posts about adding it to Weblogic lib files and modifying the start up scripts but can anyone give me a definitive working solution? I also tried changing my Application Module to using a DataSource, but I also have the same problem within the Weblogic console (it cannot create a data source for SQL SERVER as it does not have the drivers).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the responses.
I have edited C:\oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\common\bin\commEnv.cmd to add the entries as follows...
    set WEBLOGIC_CLASSPATH=%JAVA_HOME%\lib\tools.jar;%BEA_HOME%\utils\config\10.3\config-launch.jar;%WL_HOME%\server\lib\weblogic_sp.jar;%WL_HOME%\server\lib\weblogic.jar;%FEATURES_DIR%\weblogic.server.modules_10.3.2.0.jar;%WL_HOME%\server\lib\webservices.jar;%ANT_HOME%/lib/ant-all.jar;%ANT_CONTRIB%/lib/ant-contrib.jar;%WL_HOME%\server\lib\sqljdbc.jar;%WL_HOME%\server\lib\sqljdbc4.jar
You can now see the additional entries at the end of the classpath.
The Weblogic home is set as follows set WL_HOME=C:\oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3
I have placed the files in C:\oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\server\lib
I restarted the server. Logged into the Weblogic console and tried to create a datasource with the Microsoft Drivers but still no luck. I gave the Oracle Microsoft Driver a go and it seemed to work! I'm guessing that there is a driver bundle in.

  • How to hide not all but a specific database on a SQL Server 2008 R2 instance?

    Hello everyone,
I need help from all the SQL Server database security experts out there. Any solution/help or work-around will be really appreciated. Here is the scenario; our client is using our application which is a windows forms application
having in backend as a database under SQL Server 2008 R2 instance. We have successfully installed the SQL Server software with mixed mode authentication on client side, our application is running smoothly and everything is working fine. Our database on which
application is running is quite intuitive, in the sense, all employees information is stored in EmployeeMaster and all departments information is stored in DepartmentMaster and so on. It consists of more than 500 such tables, stored-procedures and views. We
have encrypted stored-procedures and views, problem is only with tables.
We don't want table structure to be visible to anybody in SSMS (or tables must be hidden from all the users) but at the same time the tables should be accessible from the application. And we don't want to go with the option of encrypting
the tables data and changing the names of all the tables to T001,T002..etc. as that is not feasible. And one last thing, we cannot restrict 'sa' login's password, it has to be shared with the client.
    Regards,
    Sumit R. Santani

Also, will you please enlighten me more on what you said as "couple of choices" if I want to lock out plain users only?
Assuming that you are selling a solution to a client, it's more an issue for your client's IT department, that do want their users to connect with Excel or SSMS.
Anyway, I have a brief overview here:
    http://www.sommarskog.se/grantperm.html#Othermethods
Again my question on that is how much reliable will be that license agreement?
That depends on the lawyer you engage to write the license agreement.
How would I come to know what they are doing with our database?
Trust. Trust is extremely important. It is very difficult to make business if you don't trust people.
That said, there are basically two reasons you want to hide the application from the client. One is protecting intellectual property. To this end, I know of nothing else than trust. And maybe after all, your application is not so fantastic that it is worth
    stealing anyway.
The other reason is that you don't want the client to change it, and then open a free support case when he has messed up. To this end there are some technical approaches you can take to detect such tampering. For instance, you can sign all stored procedures
with certificates using ADD SIGNATURE WITH SIGNED BLOB, and then ship only the public key of the certificate. This permits SQL Server to verify the signature, but the client cannot change the signature and sign it with that certificate, because the private
key is not available to them.

  • Trying to install Support for DTS packages in SQL server 2008

    Hi all
I am trying to follow the instructions in the following link...

  • Will the reports developed in sql server 2008 r2 BIDS work when deployed on sql server 2012 reporting manager

Will the reports developed in sql server 2008 r2 BIDS work when deployed on sql server 2012 reporting manager?
when I check on Microsoft site it says
Reports are not upgraded when you upload a report definition file directly to the report server
or SharePoint site. Upgrading a report definition in SQL Server Data Tools is the only way to upgrade the .rdl file.
When you open an .rdl file in Report Designer in SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), if the report was
created for a previous namespace, Report Designer automatically creates a backup file and upgrades the report to the current namespace.
This is the only way you can upgrade a report definition file.
Now here is another confusing statement which says
You can upload an .rdl file created in an earlier version of Reporting Services to a SQL Server
2012 report server and it is automatically upgraded on first use. The report server stores the report definition file in the original format. The report is automatically upgraded the first time it is viewed, but the stored report definition file remains
    unchanged.
All I want to know is if I deploy a rdl made in 2008 r2 to 2012 will it work on the report manager of
    2012?
    <o:p>
    </o:p>
    Mudassar

I have tested this fucntionality and can confirm that ssrs 2008 r2 reports work when you deploy them on new ssrs 2012 report manager .
    No Migration is required .
I didnt even moved report server dbs .All I did is just deployed reports on the report manager and it worked .
    "You
can upload an .rdl file created in an earlier version of Reporting Services to a SQL Server 2012 report server and it is automatically upgraded on first use. "
Microsoft needs to correct this the documentation is misleading
