SQL interface on linux 64

I am trying to setup the sql interface on a linux 64 box, using essbase 11.1.2
I have added a data source.
followed the instructions in the SQl interface guide
Open the $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini file and add a data
source description.
Copy the $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini to
$ESSBASEPATH/bin/.odbc.ini.
Create a symbolic link to the $ESSBASEPATH/bin/.odbc.ini from the UNIX user home directory:
ln -s $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini /home/myfolder/.odbc.ini
Verify that the odbc.ini file in the user home directory matches the odbc.ini file in
$EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x.
stopped and restarted the admin server.
In the admin console I then tried to create a rules file and i opened the SQL Data sources.
But the data source which i had defined in the odbc.ini does not appear in the SQL data sources list.
I have double checked my steps with no success have i missed some aspect of configuration
has anyone else had this experience.

Hi there,
Came across this searching for a similar problem but we managed to fix this by
1. Updating our odbc.ini file to the correct information
2. Creating symbolic links on the essbase server:
ln -s /ess/oracle/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/odbc.ini /ess/oracle/EPMSystem11R1/products/Essbase/EssbaseServer/bin/.odbc.ini
ln -s /ess/oracle/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/odbc.ini /export/home/bismart/.odbc.ini
ln -s /ess/oracle/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/odbc.ini /ess/oracle/user_projects/epmsystem1/EssbaseServer/essbaseserver1/bin/.odbc.ini
3. Restart all services
Some of that may not strictly be necessary but we've managed to get it working and have a drop down in EAS now.
Note that our install was done to /ess/oracle and our user is bismart with home directory /export/home/bismart/ - yours will be different so substitute with the correct path.
It may be unrelated because we're actually on Solaris 64 but best of luck
Cheers,

  • Problems getting ODBC SQL Interface to work for Essbase 11.1.1.3

    Hi folks.
    We're running Essbase 11.1.1.3 on Linux (32 bit) and I want to use the ODBC SQL Interface to load fact data.
    We have run the SQL Interface install .sh script successfully, then restarted the Essbase agent, and have modified the ODBC.ini file to use the Oracle Wire Protocol driver.
    I enter the SQL query in the rule Data Prep Editor in EAS (File | Open SQL) and when I hit "OK/Retrieve" I get the error "Failed to Establish Connection with SQL Database Server."
    The application log file says:

    Have you followed the info here :- How to define a relational data source in (odbc.ini) V11 Essbase?
    You don't need to run Inst-SQL.sh

  • Cannot Open SQL from Data Prep Editor (SQL Interface)

    Hi,
    When I Open SQL in Data Prep Editor: "There are no data sources defined. Please create one to continue."
    I create a ODBC connections using the drivers bellow and I obtain always the same message ("There are no data sources defined.."):
    Oracle in OraDb10g_home2
    Microsoft ODBC for Oracle
    MERANT OEM 5.2 32-BIT Oracle
    I have installed and configured Essbase, release 11.1.1.2
    Is posible that the SQL interface is not installed and configured with the Essbase Server?
    How I can install and configure the SQL Interface? I need to do somethink else?
    Thanks!
    Assia

    Through EAS select the server and right click and select properties. then go to the environment tab(I think) it should show everything you are licensed for. If this is a System 9 or higher, you should have it automatically. If it is 7X or below,then yoes it has to be licensed

    The essbase user needs to be restarted to be able to see the new odbc.ini entries.
    After editing the files you mentioned, did you restart the essbase services?
    At the very least, did you exit EAS, then restart EAS? (I don't remember which one of these will do it.) If your entries are correct, then one of these should get the essbase user to 'see' the odbc connection.
    Also, it might help to remove extraneous entries in the .odbc.ini file, kind of difficult to read thru all of that.

  • Up and down arrow keys are not working properly when using SQL CLI on Linux

    Every time I hit up, down, left, and right arrow keys to return to a previous sql command I got ^[[D, please any hints to fix this issue?
    The backspace works fine with me. I tried to use stty to fix this issue with no luck.
    Thanks

    Which SQL client and Linux version are we talking about?
    Assuming you are using the Oracle sqlplus client... it does not support command line editing and history using the arrow keys. For this to work you will have to install a product called Readline Wrapper. See my answer at the General Database forum:

  • Dynamic Dimesion Building using SQL Interface

    I am attempting to use SQL Interface in Essbase 6.5 to dynamically build the account dimension from a PeopleSoft tree. I had similar errors when first setting up the SQL interface. Are you on a 64 bit operating system on the essbase server? If so Essbase needs to use the 32 bit odbc driver, not the default 64 bit driver.
    The 32 bit driver is still available here SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe <-----This is the 32 bit (Use)
    The Administrative tools by default uses system32\odbcad32.exe <----This is the 64 bit (Don't Use)
    Once I opened the 32 bit driver interface directly and set it up the errors went away.

  • Problem in launching newly installed SQL Developer in Linux

    How can I resolve this issue?

    you are running SQL Developer using gcc's runtime environment.
    just set JAVA_HOME to the dir where jdk1.5 is installed, then PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH, and it should work.

  • DBConnect to SQL Server from Linux

    Hi All,
    We have our SAP BI system on the OS Linux x86_64. We need to make a connection to SQL Server Database thru DBConnect.
    The problem I face is that I am not able to find the DBSL to SQL Server for Linux operating system.
    Is there any way we can make this connection possible.

    If anyone finds this in the future and has questions please feel free to get in touch, I get email when this thread is updated so that should be enough. Thanks to Damon for putting me on the right track.

  • Teradata SQL interface For Essbase

    Hi,
    Can anyone give me an idea on how exactly Teradata sql interface works while loading data in essbase cubes? Does it create any temporary storage while fetching the data from source system? How can we make the process faster other than using teradata parallel transporter and THREADSWRITE for essbase? And I think it's better to do the transformations in sql itself, rather than doing it in rule file.
    Thanks in advance!

    From what I understand EPM Fusion Edition 11.1.1 has optimized loading from Teradata I'm not sure, but it may take advantage of fast export. I believe it has to create a temporary table on Teradata(spool) to gather that data together to send to Essbase. I agree it is better to do the transformation in the SQL before getting it to Essbase, you have more flexibility to get things the way you want in SQL(more complex logic and transformations)

    Hello,
    I had some problem (mixed OS environment). I solved it by ordering Linux version from Oracle. Oracle send me Linux CD Pack (All software for Linux) with free license for SQL-client only. It means that I have no licenses for products (eg. Oracle8i EE, Oracle8i SE, WebDB, ...). Anyway, I have access to my DB-server from my Linux box and I do not need to pay extra money for licensing because we have enough user licenses for our server.
    Good luck,

  • Intergration Services and Essbase SQL-Interface

    Hi, Experts,
    I have learned that if I need to access relational database I need to have one of the above components.
    Well, as SQL-Interface is free, what is an Intergration Services good for?
    Please give me some advices.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Linda

    Both SQL Interface and Analytic Integration services provide direct link to the RDBMS.
    In AIS, We have to create OLAP Model(Logical Star Schema) and MetaOutline(Rules to load memebers and data) based on the OLAP Model.

  • Creating ODBC DSN for SQL Server in LINUX

    Hi All,
    I am getting probelms in creating DSN for SQL server. I have created an entry in odbc.ini file under ODBC sources and provided the SQL server detiails as follows
    [ODBC Data Sources]
    AnalyticsWeb=Oracle BI Server
    Cluster=Oracle BI Server
    SSL_Sample=Oracle BI Server
    SQL_DB=DataDirect 5.1 SQL Server Wire Protocol
    [SQL_DB]
    Driver=/u01/OracleBI/odbc/lib/SEmsss23.so
    Description=DataDirect 5.1 SQL Server Wire Protocol
    Address=172:16:1:169, 1433;
    AlternateServers=
    AnsiNPW=Yes
    ConnectionRetryCount=0
    ConnectionRetryDelay=3
    Database=actdb/act7
    LoadBalancing=0
    LogonID=oracle
    Password=tiger
    QuoteID=No
    ReportCodePageConversionErrors=0
    When I test the connection ,i am getting the following error
    +[nQSError: 16023] The ODBC function has returned an error. The database may not be available, or the network may be down.+
    Can you please help in fixing this issue.I am not sure of the Drivers and the descrition that I am using are correct or not.
    Please let me know the process of creating the DSN for SQL server in LINUX and also how can we check the available drivers in LINUX?
    Thank You in advance,
    S1r1

    OBIEE does all of its data retrieval from the server. Your server needs to be able to query all of the data sources that you define.
    The client is irrelevant here, it's just a web browser consuming data that the BI Server returns to it.
    So yes you need to define connectivity from your Linux server to your SQL Server box.
    The Systems Requirements doc (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10417.pdf) details DataDirect ODBC drivers that are provided for non-Widows connectivity to SQL Server
