Hi,
I don't think it matters which OS, sqlloader works the same for all OS. If you want more information, read first the manual: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16536/ldr_concepts.htm#i1005437

Help: INFILE Syntax for Sql loader in Linux
Hi
I am using sqlload in Linux. How do I specify the INFILE when abc.dat is in say a logical drive ORACLE_INFILE?
I also know the exact file location like /u01/file_folder.
In Windows, we have for examle
INFILE 'c: file_folder\abc.dat'
In Linux, what we do when file, abc.dat is in /u01/file_folder or logical drive ORACLE_INFILE?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Hi
Just finished a test and it worked. It is apparently a simple thing just about path/file name in Linux. So in Linux we do:
INFILE '/path/abc.dat' -

Hi all,
I try to insert data with SQL Loader on Linux (Suse 6.3) and get the following message:
SQL*Loader-704: Internal error: ulmtsyn: OCIStmtExecute (tabhp) [-1073747572]

The control file and data file did work on another platform.

NO!
SuSe 6.2 have a patch file for Oracle made from their developers.
Never use Oracle 8.1.5.0.1 patch file that doesn't work because
us bugged.
Use SuSe 6.2 Oracle patch set.
(don't remember the web page where you can download it but a
search with word "oracle" from SuSe homepage will lead you to

Loading data by sql loader in oracle 10g on linux
I am trying to load data in Oracle 10g on linux by using sql loader, but getting error
Problem in log showing that field length of SURNAME field is more than table field size.
Following is the error in log file of sql loader
Record 21: Rejected - Error on table TABLE1, column
SURNAME.
ORA-12899: value too large for column SURNAME (actual: 65, maximum: 64)
and it is evident from following controlfile that i am using trim to discard any space then why it is giving an error.
LOAD DATA
TRUNCATE

ID INTEGER EXTERNAL,
OPTION1 CHAR,
REF1 CHAR,
OTHER_REF CHAR,
TITLE "TRIM(:TITLE)",
FORENAME "TRIM(:FORENAME)",
SURNAME "TRIM(:SURNAME)",
JOINT_TITLE "TRIM(:JOINT_TITLE)",
JOINT_FORENAME "TRIM(:JOINT_FORENAME)",
JOINT_SURNAME "TRIM(:JOINT_SURNAME)",
I checked the bad file and count number of characters, they are 64 characters.
When i am inserting individual record from bad file by sql loader, it is loadingProbably your database character set is multi-byte. That is %UTF8 or AL16UTF16%
Post your NLS Database Parameters value
select * from nls_database_parameters;
In General varchar2(65) by default means 65 BYTES unless
you have changed your Defalut NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS parameter from BYTE to CHAR.

Error loading operating system after installation of Linux AS4
Hi,
I have Hardware HP DL580 G3 server attached with SAN.
I just installed Linux AS4, installation went fine and successufly installed, upon rebooting of server it is giving following error.

Error Loading Operating system
Please help me outFirst: did you install the bootloader in the MBR (it's a question during the installation), so the server is able to boot linux automatically?
"C:" is a typical MSDOS naming (and windows naming), which probably means the dos/windows bootloader is still in the MBR (master boot record)
If not, reinstall linux and install grub (preferably) in the MBR -
How to load an Excel sheet into Oracle via SQL* Loader
Hallo!I am trying to load an Excel spreadsheet into an Oracle 10g database via SQL*Loader.
How do I achieve this via Oracle Enterprise Manager?
Please give a detailed explanation especially covering the locations of the control file, infile, bad file etc for Oracle 10g running in both Windows and Linux platforms.
Thanks. This has nothing to do with Oracle Enterprise Manager
SQL Loader is command line and it needs to be installed with SQL PLUS (The wrong install type will not have it)

SQL Loader Multibyte character error
Hello,
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
Database Characterset: WE8MSWIN1252
To load an utf8 File (UTF-8 Unicode text) i use option characterset UTF8 in controlfile.
All went fine until in textfile the column is filled up with 40 chars and
german umlaute included (ÜÖÄüöä...)
Loader stops (errors=0) and gives:
Record 146466: Rejected - Error on table 'TableName', column 'ColumnName'.
Multibyte character error
* use CHAR(40) and POSITION(start-end) for field description - no help
* modify column, from VC2(40 char) to VC2(50 char) - no help
* without characterset UTF8 option i got wrong characters for german umlaute - no help
* manual insert the data from this row with NO problems !
any hint or workaround?
Regards
MichaelHi Werner,
on my linux desktop:
$ file test.dat
test.dat: UTF-8 Unicode text, with very long lines
my colleague is working on a windows system.
On both systems exact the same error from SQL Loader.
Btw, try with different number of special characters (german umlaute and euro) and there is no chance to load without the error
when to many (?) special characters or data is long as column length and special characters included.

the solution for others:
add LENGTH SEMANTICS CHARACTER to the controlfile
LOAD DATA characterset UTF8 LENGTH SEMANTICS CHARACTER
TRUNCATE
INTO TABLE utf8file_to_we8mswin1252
ID CHAR(1)
, TEXT CHAR(40)

SQL Loader and weird source file structure
I am familiar with using SQL Loader to process comma or tab delimited text files into proper table data. But how do you process "positionally delimited" files?!
I mean, I have a text file which looks like this:
Item A
---attribute1
---attribute2
---attribute3
---attribute4
Item B
---attribute1
---attribute2
---attribute3
---attribute4
Item C
---attribute1
---attribute2
---attribute3
---attribute4
And so on. How do I tell SQL Loader, 'rows 1, 6 and 11 are the first column in the table; rows 2, 7 and 12 and the second column; rows 3, 8, 13 are the third and so on? I want to end up with data in the form
Item A Attribute1 Attribute2 Attribute3 Attribute 4
Item B Attribute1 Attribute2 Attribute3 Attribute 4
Item C Attribute1 Attribute2 Attribute3 Attribute 4
Is such a thing even possible with SQL Loader? If your data is exactly in that format like in sample provided by Enrique, you can try to play with that certain data pattern. Again, based on previous example:

I have to insert 300.000.000 datasets (generated dynamically by a seperate process) into an Oracle 8.1.6 database. I'd like to do this via SQL-Loader but since Linux (kernel 2.2 at least) supports only files up to 2Gigs and I don't have the necessary space on my machine to generate a large amount of ASCII files I'd like to ask whether there is a possibility to use an ordinary pipe in combination with SQL-Loader. I tried to use a named pipe but all my attempts failed.
I don't like to use Perl and the DBI module since this would be far so slow (would take about one week I guess).
HansExternal tables are accessible from SQL, which generally simplifies life if the data files are physically located on the database server since you don't have to coordinate a call to an external SQL*Loader script with other PL/SQL processing. Under the covers, external tables are normally just invoking SQL*Loader.
SQL*Loader is more appropriate if the data files are on a different server or if it is easier to call an executable rather than calling PL/SQL (i.e. if you have a batch file that runs on a server other than the database server that wants to FTP a data file from a FTP server and then load the data into Oracle).
