SQL Loader: specify position for pipe separated file

Hi,
I have a problem with sql loader. i need to load 5 columns in a table and my file only contains 3 fields (pipe separated file) i need to add a sequenced id and a loading date. When i try to run the below, the sequence and the sysdate is populated correctly, but column3 is inserted into column1. If i add my file two more null columns, then it works properly:
||column1|column2|column3
also if i put my variables in the end it also works, but i cannot restructure the table so this solution doesnt work. Do u have any idea how to specify positions in pipe separated files? i should load file in the below format:
column1|column2|column3
it onlz works properly if i add the two pipe in the beginning
my control file:
LOAD DATA
INFILE 'test201001.csv'
APPEND
INTO TABLE test_load
FIELDS TERMINATED BY '|'
id "seq.nextval",
sys_creation_date "sysdate",
column_1,
column_2,
column_3
Thanx your help in advance

Can you load the data "as is" into a work table, then use a PL/SQL program to process the work table correctly according to the data you have?

If I generate loader / Insert script from Raptor, it's not working for Clob columns.

    Hi,
Has the file been somehow changed by copying it between windows and unix? Ora file transfer done as binary or ASCII? The most common cause of your problem. Is if the end of line carriage return characters have been changed so they are no longer /n/r could this have happened? Can you open the file in a good editor or do an od command in unix to see what is actually present?

It's not possible to read from a file without using classes from the core API*. You'll have to get clarification from your instructor as to which classes are and are not allowed.
*Unless you write a bunch of JNI code to replicate what the java.io classes are doing.

    Hi,
Can SQL*Loader be used for Oracle html pages, for e.g Customer, Tasks etc.
Reason: We have a job that creates leads, tasks in 11i, but r12 is not working as expected, an SR is open with Oracle for a long time and no solution so far. I am thinking of using SQL*loader to populate the data, but these are html pages. Will SQL* Loader work?
    12.1.4 / 11g db
    Appreciate your inputs.

  • Sql*loader and sequence() for primary keys

I have a question regarding SQL*Loader with the sequence() function and using it for a primary key to load records in multiple tables from one input record. I am pulling data from a delimited file and populating several tables from each row. For the primary key, I am using the sequence function.
For the first table (the parent), I use sequence(40000,1) for the key. Since the remaining inserts are based on the same logical record, I use sequence(40000,1) for those too (one record for each month). The problem comes in when a child record does not pass a WHEN clause (the amount is zero). Then it almost seems as if the parent record is not loaded and the child (or children) that does pass the WHEN clause are assigned to the next parent! Obviously, the sequence is getting out of sync between the children and the parent.
I've looked in the documentation and tried several different ways to attack this problem. Is there a bug in SQLLDR (8.1.7) or is it just my coding.
I will try to include the files below but they are very large.
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the reply .. user do have their user credentials but only for the application ... but all users use a common loader and control file once they log into the application. So irrespective of which user is logged in he selects the same control file and loads to the same table mentioned in the control file .. i instead want user to be able to load to the table in control file but into his schema like username.tablename instead of just the tablename mentioned in .ctl file.

  • Using SQL LOADER in Oracle to import CSV file

I'm pretty new to databases and programming. Im not very good with the computer lingo so stick with me. I have a csv file that I'm trying to load into my oracle database. It contains account information such as name telephone number service dates ect. I've installed Oracle 11g Release 2. This is what I've done so far step by step..
    1) Ran SQL Loader
I created a new table with the columns that I needed. For example
    create table Billing ( TAP_ID char(10), ACCT_NUM char(10), MR_ID char(10), HOUSE_NUM char(10), STREET char(30), NAME char(50)
    2) It prompted me that the Table was created. Next I created a control file for the data in notepad which was located in the same directory as my Billing table and has a .ctl extension. GIS.csv is the file im getting the data from and is also in the same directory and named it Billing.ctl, which looked like so..
    load data
    infile GIS.csv
    into table Billing
    fields terminated by ','
    (TAP_ID, ACCT_NUM, MR_ID, HOUSE_NUM, STREET, NAME)
    3) Run sqlldr from command line to use the control file
    sqlldr myusername/mypassword Billing.ctl
This is where I am stuck. Ive seen video tutorials of exactly what I'm doing but I get this error:
SQL*Loader-350: Syntax error at line 1.
Expecting keyword LOAD, found "SERV TAP ID". "SERV TAP ID","ACCT NUMBER","MTR ID","SERV HOUSE","SERV STREET","SERV ^'
I dont understand why its coming up with that error. My billing.ctl has a load.
    load data
    infile GIS.csv
    into table Billing
    fields terminated by ','
    (TAP_ID, ACCT_NUM, MTR_ID, SERV_HOUSE, SERV_STREET, SERV_TOWN, BIL_NAME, MTR_DATE_SET, BIL_PHONE, MTR_SIZE, BILL_CYCLE, MTR_RMT_ID)
    Any thoughts?

I have thousands of records in this file and only 64 of them updated. How many record were in the table before and after? I doubt the difference is 64, unless you have exactly 64 rows but you said thousands. I believe you are probably misinterpreting the log file. can you share the full log file? As a test, create a empty table, use the same script and load same data file in this empty table. Once loading is complete, check if it has 64 rows or more. I believe what log file is saying, it is 'commiting after every 64 rows', not 'stopping after loading 64 rows'.
So, unless you show us the log file there is no way to be certain, feel free to mask confidential info, at-least top 15 and bottom 15 lines ?

  • SQL Loader: handling difference datatypes in data file and table column

    Hi,
I am not sure if my question is valid but I am having this doubt.
I am trying to load data from my data file into a table with just a single column of FLOAT datatype using SQL Loader. But very few insertions take place, leaving a large number of record rejected for the same reason-
Record 7: Rejected - Error on table T1, column MSISDN.
    ORA-01722: invalid number
The data in my datafile goes like this: (with a single space before every field)
       233207332711<EOFD><EORD>    233208660745<EOFD><EORD>    233200767380<EOFD><EORD>
Here I want to know if there is any way to type cast the data read from the data file to suit my table column's datatype.
How do I handle this? I want to load all the data from my datafile into my table.

Pl continue the discussion in your original post - Pls help: SQL Loader loads only one record

How to solve the issue? Thanks.

    like the following:
    SJJK0201~~??????????
    39~~20110413~~20110413
    //???1
    0~~aaa~~P83782~~??~~2~~6854.70~~0.17~~1165.30~~4010~~1~~1601

    0~~ccc~~P80792~~??~~4~~547.01~~0.17~~92.99~~160~~1~~1601
You can find that any chinese characters are became '?'. The loaded line(Line 4th) is not listed in the output.
Thanks for your quick answer! :)

    BEGIN
                     0.00 ******************** X          X          X          *X          ****
END;if you look at the data, some fields have a lot of * and some has af few such as ****. i want to load this data into a table and when a field contain all * as a value, i want to set it to null. if a field contain a * and alphanumeric then that value should be load as it is.
in the example above, ******************** should be set to null and **** should also be set to null. notice that there is a field with X. since this field contain alpha numeric, it should be loaded into the table as is.  the only time field should be set to null is when the value contain all .
somebody in this forum suggest using decode but it looks like it is not working and i get error when it reads second field and try to insert into a2 number column.
is there any way to use regular expression to find out if a field contain all *. also i want to trim each field since they might contain leading spaces.
can some one help with this using the sqlloader ctl and data above?

You can include regular expression in you SQL*Loader control file.
An example can be found here:
    http://www.morganslibrary.org/reference/sqlloader.html
Demos 7 and 8 using the UPPER and DECODE functions to illustrate how to do it.

  • SQL Loader deletes data, after reporting a file not found error

I have several control files beginning:
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE <dataFile>
    REPLACE INTO TABLE <tableName>
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY '<separator>'
When running SQL Loader, in the case of one particular control file, if the file referenced does not exist, SQL Loader first reports that the file could not be found, but then proceeds to delete all the data in the table in which the import was meant to take place. The corresponding log file reveals that the file could not be found, but also states that 0 records were loaded and 0 records were skipped.
In the case of all other control files, if the file is not found, the log files simply report this exception but do not show any statisitcs about the number of records loaded/skipped nor does SQL Loader delete the data in any of the referenced tables. This is obviously the expected behaviour.
Why is SQL Loader deleting the data referenced by one particular control file, even though this file does not exist and the corresponding log file has correctly picked up on this?

in the ressource name box of your file model, when you push the search button ("...") do you see the file ?
Cause the problem can occur when you write directly the path without selectionning the file with the assistant.
    Try this.
I think too that that you can't see the data by right clicking and selectionning View Data ?
    Let me know the avancement...

  • Writing schema for pipe delimited file

    Hi all,
I have to write a pipe delimited file (|) in .txt at a particular location. I am not seeing this option in native schema creation.
The file should be written in following format:
    Header1
    Line1
    Line2
    Line3
    Header2
    Line1
    Line2
    Line3
Can we write a schema for such kind of scenario?
Here is an example for the format specified above:
    Orderno1|Customer1|site1
    Partno1|price1|Quantity1
    Partno2|price2|Quantity2
    Partno3|price2|Quantity1
    Orderno2|Customer2|site2
    Partno1|price2|Quantity2
    Partno1|price2|Quantity2
    Partno2|price2|Quantity3
    Please help me out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Abhishek.

    Hi Abhishek,
You are right there is no option in native schema creation wizard for generating '|' delimiter file.
But you can achieve this problem with another approach.
step 1: Create schema file for ',' (comma) delimiter through native format builder wizard.
step 2: open the created XSD file and replace ',' with '|' option in terminatedBy command of each element.
step 3: Attach this updated XSD file to your outbound(write) service.
    Thanks

    Hi
I have a comma delimted source file with 4 columns. I however only want to load columns 2 and 3 into my table using SQL*Loader. This seems like something that should be fairly simple but I can't seem to find any doc or examples of this.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.

  • File content conversion for Pipe delimited file

    Hi
i have a scenario ( file-xi-proxy) in whch file is coming in a pipe delimited.
    my data type is like
    DT_ XXXXX
    AwardInfo
    Header contains some fileds
    DetailRecord contains some fileds
    trailer contains some fields
what are content conversion parameters i have to use
    venkat

    Sedamkar,
Expecting you have one header, multiple details and one trailer then give recordset structure in sender file communication channel as:
    Header,1,DetailRecord ,*,trailer,1
In content conversion you should give parameters:
    Header.fieldSeparator : |
    Header.endSeparator : 'nl'
    DetailRecord.fieldSeparator : |
    DetailRecord.endSeparator : 'nl'
    trailer.fieldSeparator : |
    trailer.endSeparator : 'nl'
You may need to change the parameters also according to your strcuture and the file layout. See this SAP help for file content conversion:

  • Sql Loader Skipping fields in a csv file

    Hi,
I have a comma delimited flat file with more fields than I need and am curious if there is a loader technique
to skip some of the fields. E.g. Given a three field file, I want to associate the 1st and 3rd fields with table columns and ignore the 2nd field.
Sorry if this seems simple. This is my first time with loader and nothing in the Doc. Jumps out at me.
Obviously I can massage the file prior to loader with sed, awk, perl. I'm really just curious if I can do it in loader itself.
    Thanks
