SQL Loader unicode (umlaut) problem
Hi
I want to load some data with SQL Loader. The data contains german umlaut like ä, ö, ü.
The loading process works, but the umlaut are transformed to something like 'ü' in the DB. How can I get to load them correctly?
My environment:
- DB 10g Rel.2
- Windows XP
- Registry key in Ora_Home: NLS_LANG=GERMAN_GERMANY.WE8MSWIN1252
I tried it with setting the character set in the CTL file:
characterset 'WE8MSWIN1252'
That didn't help either.
Does anyone have an idea? I searched the forum but didn't find a solution.
Thanks for your help,
Roger
Maybe a codepage issue ? See this example :
C:\tmp>type umlaut.ctl
load data
infile umlaut.dat
replace
into table umlaut_tab

SQL Loader Oracle 10g problem in upload date with time data -- Very urgent.
Hi
I am trying to upload data using SQL loader. There are three columns in the table
defined as DATE. When I tried upload a data like this '2007-02-15 15:10:20', it is not loading time part. The date stored as 02/15/2008' only. There is not time on that. I tried with many different format nothing work. Can please help me ?
I have also tried with to_date --> to_timestamp it did not work.
The application is going to be in production, I cannot change DATE to TIME STAMP. This is very urgent.
LASTWRITTEN "decode(:LASTWRITTEN,'null',Null, to_date(:LASTWRITTEN,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:Mi:SS'))",
CREATEDON "decode(:CREATEDON,'null',Null, to_date(:CREATEDON,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:Mi:SS'))",
LASTUPDATEDON(21) "decode(:LASTUPDATEDON,'null',Null, to_date(:LASTUPDATEDON(21),'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'))"Your problem is most likely in decode - the return type in your expression will be character based on first search value ('null'), so it will be implicitly converted to character and then again implicitly converted to date by loading into date column. At some of this conversions you probably are loosing your time part. You can try instead use cast:
SQL> desc t
Name Null? Type
LASTWRITTEN DATE
CREATEDON DATE
LASTUPDATEDON DATE
SQL> select * from t;
no rows selected
SQL> !cat t.ctl
LOAD DATA
INFILE *

SQL Loader, data rejection problem
Hi all ,
I am trying to load data using sql loader. The first field is a long and the rest all are varchar2 and date. After the long datatype is loaded the rest of the data is rejected. What are the possible causes of data rejection by sql loader?
I am pasting the code that is working and the code which is not working( they are two different scenario's)
Working Code:
nl -w10 -s, $4/BookingDetails$3.txt > Book1.txt
echo "LOAD DATA" > booking_det.ctl
echo "INFILE 'Book1.txt'" >> booking_det.ctl
echo "REPLACE PRESERVE BLANKS INTO TABLE booking_det" >> booking_det.ctl
echo "FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','" >> booking_det.ctl
echo "TRAILING NULLCOLS" >> booking_det.ctl
echo "(SLNO, ALL_VALUES CHAR(2000), BOOKING_STATUS, " >> booking_det.ctl
echo "BOOKING_DATE, ACCT_CITY)" >> booking_det.ctl
echo '\n'Invoking SQLLDR ......
sqlldr "$1"\/"$2" silent=ALL errors=100000 control=booking_det.ctl
Code which is not working:
nl -w10 -s, $4/BookingDetails2$3.txt > Book4.txt
echo "LOAD DATA" > booking_det1.ctl
echo "INFILE 'Book4.txt'" >> booking_det1.ctl
echo "REPLACE PRESERVE BLANKS INTO TABLE booking_det" >> booking_det1.ctl
echo "FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','" >> booking_det1.ctl
echo "TRAILING NULLCOLS" >> booking_det1.ctl
echo "(SLNO, ALL_VALUES CHAR(2000), BOOKING_STATUS, BOOKING_DATE)" >> booking_de
t1.ctl
echo '\n'Invoking SQLLDR ......
sqlldr "$1"\/"$2" silent=ALL errors=100000 control=booking_det1.ctl
after inserting all_values in case 2, the rest of the data is not getting loaded in the tmep table.
Please suggest what could go wrong.
TIA
Regards
Ankur

SQL loader and stream files with new line '
I have been trying unsuccessfully to load EDI files using SQL loader. The problem
is that the lines are terminated by ' and when I use the stream file option it does
not recognise the line terminator given. As I understand it from the documentation
this should work - but it does not. I have also used the Hex option with no better
result. Does anyone have any ideas ?
I can and have used tr "[']" "[\n]" in Unix to convert the ' to newlines - I just
wonder am I missing something in SQL loader which will allow me to do this ?
This is the sql loader control file

Is this possible through sql loader
hi grus,
i want to load a data through sql loader but the problem is, data file contains some numeric values and after each numeric value there is sign character,
for example
position 1 to 9 = 12345678- (in case of negative)
or
position 1 to 9 = 12345678% (% represents blank space in case of positive)
is there any way to load this numeric value into one field, where the sign follow the numeric value?
ThanksHi Jim/Jenis
Just want to know why the below statement dosn't work.
when i used "MI" format then all the records which trailing blank rejected by the loader only trailing "-" loaded.
CURR_MON_OPEN_BAL position(0045:0053) "to_number(:CURR_MON_OPEN_BAL, '99999999MI')"
then i use the following trick and works fine.
CURR_MON_OPEN_BAL position(0045:0053) "to_number(rpad(:CURR_MON_OPEN_BAL,9,'+', '99999999S')"
Could you guys explain why the MI format doesn't work in my case? -
A text file contains a single row with 450 comma separated entries.I want to load all the data into an oracle table of 450 columns(separating the comma separated entries e.g A1,2,3 from text file into oracle table as
col1 col2 col3
A1 2 3
but sql loader gives a problem while loading data into more than 250 fields. So how to tackle this problem.
Please reply soon at [email protected] or [email protected]That or you will need to use UTL_FILE in read mode. You will probably want to write a function which parses the commas. There are tons floating around here or on ASKTOM. I am not exactly sure however the max linesize UTL_FILE can read, but it should be a viable option.

Hi,
I am working on a Decision Support System project.
I need to load flat files into Oracle tables through SQL * Loader. And the entire process should be invoked through JAVA front end.
How do I go about?
I will deeply appreciate any help.
Raghu.Hi,
In our prev. project, We have customized-(automated) SQL*LOADER. There, we were using UNIX O/S. So We have used shell scripts for creating the control file (a script can create control file automatically). And it will call the sql loader and load the data into tables.
Here u can use same logic.
If ur flat file contents are in same format, u can use the static control files (means, at installation time u can create control files) and whenever u want this, u can call. Dont go for dynamic control files.
1. If u is using Java as front end, u can use native methods and call sql loader (exe). Problem is, U can not invoke, and such thing from client m/c. U can do it only from server side.
2. This way also u can try. By using external procedure method, u can call shared library and shared library can invoke sql loader (write a small C shared library program for invoking SQL*LOADER). Here, u can invoke SQL*LOADER from client m/c also.
3. One more ways is there. By using listener tech. u can invoke it. Create listener program and run on server side as back ground process. Whenever, there is request, it will sql loader.

Need help with SQL*Loader not working
Hi all,
I am trying to run SQL*Loader on Oracle 10g UNIX platform (Red Hat Linux) with below command:
sqlldr userid='ldm/password' control=issue.ctl bad=issue.bad discard=issue.txt direct=true log=issue.log
And get below errors:

I have problem regarding to SQL*loader
i wants to insert data into table depeds on condiotion like
LOAD DATA
APPEND
INTO TABLE TMP
WHEN (26:33) = '161M1099'
TMP_FIELD1 CHAR(256),
TMP_TTYNO CONSTANT'1232:1228'
INTO TABLE TMP
WHEN (26:33) = '161P1340'
TMP_FIELD1 CHAR(256),
TMP_TTYNO CONSTANT'1232:1228'
INTO TABLE TMP
WHEN (26:33) = '161T1001'
TMP_FIELD1 CHAR(256),
TMP_TTYNO CONSTANT'1232:1228'
it is going to 1st condition and insert both tmp_field1 and tmp_ttyno now
problem occur when its going into 2nd condition
it is going to insert only constant tmp_ttyno not tmp_field1

Special character loading issue with SQL Loader
Hi,
I am getting the special characters as part of my input file to SQL loader. The problem is that because the length of the input string (having special characters) is more than 1000 in input data, the converted bytes length is becoming more than 4000 and the defined substrb() function in control file is not working for it and the target 'ADDR_LINE' column in table 'TEST_TAB' is defined Varchar2(1024 char).
Following is a sample ctl file and data i am using for it.
LOAD DATA
CHARACTERSET UTF8
INFILE 'updated.txt'
APPEND INTO TABLE TEST_TAB
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "|~"
TRAILING NULLCOLS
INDX_WORD ,
ADDR_LINE "SUBSTRB(:ADDR_LINE , 1, 1000)",
CITY
following is the actual data which i am receiving as part of input file to sql loader for the ADDR_LINE column:
'RUA PEDROSO ALVARENGA, 1284 AƒAƒA‚AƒAƒA‚A‚AƒAƒAƒA‚A‚AƒA‚A‚AƒAƒAƒA‚AƒAƒA‚A‚A‚AƒAƒA‚A‚AƒA‚A‚AƒAƒAƒA‚AƒAƒA‚A‚AƒAƒAƒA‚A‚AƒA‚A‚A‚AƒAƒA‚AƒAƒA‚A‚A‚AƒAƒA‚A‚AƒA‚A‚A‚AƒAƒA‚AƒAƒA‚A‚AƒAƒAƒA‚A‚AƒA‚A‚AƒAƒAƒA‚AƒAƒA‚A‚A‚AƒAƒA‚A‚AƒA‚A‚A‚AƒAƒA‚AƒAƒA‚A‚AƒAƒAƒA‚A‚AƒA‚A‚A‚AƒAƒA‚AƒAƒA‚A‚A‚AƒAƒA‚A‚AƒA‚A‚A– 10 ANDAR'
My database is having following settings.
NLS_CALENDAR GREGORIAN
NLS_CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8
NLS_COMP BINARY
NLS_CURRENCY $
NLS_DATE_FORMAT DD-MON-RR
NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY $
NLS_ISO_CURRENCY AMERICA
NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS BYTE
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP FALSE
NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS .,
NLS_SORT BINARY
NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA
NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM
NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
NLS_TIME_FORMAT HH.MI.SSXFF AM
NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
Any help in this regard will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Is the data file created directly on the Unix server ? If not, how does it get to the Unix server ? And where does the file come from ? Is the UTF8 locale installed on the Unix server (check with the Unix sysadmin) ?

SQL*LOADER ERROR WHILE LOADING ARABIAN DATA INTO UNICODE DATABSE
Hi,
I was trying to load arabic data using sql*loader and the datafile is in .CSV format. But i am facing a error Value to large for a column while loading and some data are not loaded due to this error. My target database character set is..
Characterset : AL32UTF8
National Character set: AL16UTF16
DB version:-10g release 2
OS:-Cent OS 5.0/redhat linux 5.0
I have specified the characterset AR8MSWIN1256/AR8ISO8859P6/AL32UTF8/UTF8 separately in the sql*loader control file, but getting the same error for all the cases.
I have also created the table with CHAR semantics and have specified the "LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR" in the sql*loader control file but again same error is coming.
I have also changed the NLS_LANG setting.
I am getting stunned that the data that i am goin to load using sql*loader, it is resided in the same database itself. But when i am generating a csv for those datas and trying to load using sql*loader to the same database and same table structure,i am getting this error value too large for a column.
whats the probs basically???? whether the datafile is problemetic as i am generating the csv programmetically or is there any problem in my approach of loading unicode data.
Please help...Here's what we know from what you've posted:
1. You may be running on an unsupported operating system ... likely not the issue but who knows.
2. You are using some patch level of 10gR2 of the Oracle database but we don't know which one.
3. You've had some kind of error but we have no idea which error or the error message displayed with it.
4. You are loading data into a table but we do not have any DDL so we do not know the data types.
Perhaps you could provide a bit more information.
Perhaps a lot more. <g> -
SQL Loader and foreign characters in the data file problem
Hello,
I have run into an issue which I can't find an answer for. When I run SQL Loader, one of my control files is used to get file content (LOBFILE) and one of the fields in the data file has a path to that file. The control file looks like:
LOAD DATA
INFILE 'PLACE_HOLDER.dat'
INTO TABLE iceberg.rpt_document_core APPEND
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
doc_core_id "iceberg.seq_rpt_document_core.nextval",
-- created_date POSITION(1) date "yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss",
created_date date "yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss",
document_size,
hash,
body_format,
is_generic_doc,
is_legacy_doc,
external_filename FILLER char(275) ENCLOSED by '"',
body LOBFILE(external_filename) terminated by EOF
A sample data file looks like:
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,21,BB51344DD2127002118E286A197ECD4A,text,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\شیمیایی.txt"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,17,CF85BE76B1E20704180534E19D363CF8,text,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\ลอบวางระเบิด.txt"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,23552,47DB382558D69F170227AA18179FD0F0,binary,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\leesburgis_á_ñ_é_í_ó_ú_¿_¡_ü_99.doc"
0,2012-10-22:10:09:35,17,83FCA0377445B60CE422DE8994900A79,binary,N,N,"E:\tmp\misc_files\index_testers\foreign\làm thế nào bạn làm ngày hôm nay"
The problem is that whan I run this, SQL Loader throws an error that it can't find the file. It appears that it can't interpret the foreign characters in a way that allows it to find that path. I have tried adding a CHARACTERSET (using AL32UTF8 or UTF8) value in the control file but that only has some success with Western languages, not the ones listed above. Also, there is no set of defined languages that could be found in the data file. It essentaially could be any language.
Does anyone know if there is a way to somehow get SQL Loader to "understand" the file system paths when a folder and/or file name could be in some other langauge?
Thanks for any thoughts - PeterThanks for the reply Harry. If I try to open the file in various text editors like Wordpad, Notepad, GVIM, andTextpad, they all display the foreign characters differently. Only Notepad comes close to displaying the characters properly. I have a C# app that will read the file and display the contents and it renders it fine. If you look at the directory of files in Windows Explorer, they all are displayed properly. So it seems things like .Net and Windows have some mechanism to understand the characters in order to render them properly. Other applications, again like Wordpad, do not know how to render them properly. It would seem that whatever SQL Loader is using to "read" the data files also is not rendering the characters properly which prevents it from finding the directory path to the file. If I add "CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8" in the control file, all is fine when dealing with Western langauges (ex, German, Spanish) but not for the Eastern languages (ex. Thai, Chinese). So .... telling SQL Loader to use a characterset seems to work, but not in all cases. The AL32UTF8 is the characterset that the Oracle database was created with. I have not had any luck if I try to set the CHARACTERSET to whatever the Thai character set is, for example. There problem there though is that even if that did work, I can't target specific lagauages because the data could come from anywhere. It's like I need some sort of global "super set" characterset to use. It seems like the CHARACTERSET is the right track to follow but I am not sure, and even if it is, is there a way to handle all languages.
Thanks - Peter
