SQL not connecting to Personal database - ORA-12203
I have just installed Oracle 8.1.7 Personal Edition which is required for my Graduate Database Mgmt course.
I am getting an ORA-12203 error when loging onto SQL Plus (part of the install instructions) Instructions say to leave the Host String blank. Only gives instructions for errors 27101 or 01034 and cannot seem to find a help or error index anywhere.
Please help so that I can continue or else drop the class in time to get my money back!!!!
Jana,
Your TNSNAMES.ORA file will be found in a path similar to this one:
C:\Oracle\Ora81\NETWORK\ADMIN
The file may looks similar to this:
ORA1 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxx.xxx.xx.xxx)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = ora1)
When you log on to SQL*PLUS try:
USERNAME: system
PASSWORD: manager
HOSTNAME: (leave blank)
If you still get an error, refer to your TNSNAMES.ORA file to see what your host name should be (in my example, it is ORA1).
If you still get an error after filling in the hostname, launch server manager (C:\Oracle\Ora81\BIN\SVRMGRL.EXE), then try to start the database:
SVRMGR> CONNECT INTERNAL
SVRMGR> STARTUP
Good luck,
Emily

ORA-12154: TNS:Could not connect to Oracle database.
Hi All,
I'm getting the following error while trying to access OBIEE dashboard.
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. I have oracle 10g R2, I can connect my database using SQLPLUS. I am not able to do Update Row Count from Admin tool also. If anyone come across this issue, please share your experience. Anyhelp would be appreciated.
Thanks,
RaviThe problem is OBIEE server not able to read the tnsnames.ora file. That depends upon the what you set as ORACLE_HOME. that can be find with tnsping command at command line. Follow this article about setting up oracle home and oci drivers
http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2007/10/03/oracle-bi-ee-101332-identifying-oracle-homes-for-oci-drivers/
please make sure that your DB-home is the first entry in your PATH environment variable.
Have you created TNS_ADMIN environment variable. Create a environment variable TNS_ADMIN which maps to location where tnsnames.ora file located.
let me know if you are not able to load after this steps.

We had an already existing system on tomcat 4.1.18. Since migrating to Tomcat 5.0, we are facing lots of problem while trying to connect to the database. The database in SQL Server 2000.
The first time i try to connect (after restarting tomcat service) the system is able to connect to the database but after sometime it again stops connecting.
The beans on our system are able to connect to the database without any problem but when we try using the same via http, it doesnt connect. The classpath is set properly. Also the database drivers are also the latest ones and in the proper place. We have placed them in the common/lib folder. We have checked that normal jsp pages which are not connecting to the database are working fine.
Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advancewell.....Tomcat is not a database connecting engines.....U would need to check your db connection codes to check if you have missed anything.....so the first question will be
1. How do u connect to the DB
2. Which type of JDBC drivers are u using.
Finaly, tomcat is not at fault...its the fault of you configuration

Pls help thanks in advance. There are 2 places you need to keep TNS names.ora file for OBIEE to connect.
1. Oracle client which is in your machine
2. OBIEEhome>Oracle_BI1\network\admin
I'm sure you would have it in your oracle client. Copy paste the same TNS names in this path too.
Then open rpd and right click on any table in physical layer and click view data. You should see the results.
if this doesn't work check your credentials.

Any idea why this exception thrown ? Is this because of weblogic server connections cleanup or something to do with connections? As per my understanding , JDBC connection will not be released when AM is active/managed mode. Oracle Doc says
" That application module instance holds onto the JDBC connection object that it acquired from the pool until the application module instance is removed from the application module pool."jbo.ampool.maxinactiveage is set to 20 min which means that If AM in the pool is inactive for 20 min then clean this AM in the next cycle (still that is not our case). We also set jbo.recyclethreshold="50" means 50 AMs can exists in the pool with managed-state. We set these because of performance reasons. As per my understanding, AM instance will be deleted (????) but in any action on the UI will pick up another instance of the AM because datacontrolframe is still valid in the session. Do we have any best practice like jbo.ampool.maxinactiveage should be equal to session time out?. The error seems AM lost the underlying JDBC connection and somehow application is using that stale AM ?. what will be possible reason?.

JBO-25200: Application module is not connected to a database
Using JDev 9.0.3.
I am receiving the following error when running my app through JDevloper's embedded OC4J:
JBO-25200: Application module is not connected to a database.
The error is happening when I execute the following line(s) of code:
// holds the ViewObject RowSet
RowSet accessTypeRS = PersonalInfoForm.getAccessTypeRS();
if (accessTypeRS != null) {
if (accessTypeRS.getEstimatedRowCount() > 0) {
accessTypeRS.setRangeSize(-1);
I receive the error when trying to execute the setRangeSize method. However, several prior attempts caused the error at the line above (getEstimatedRowCount)
I am using connection pooling with a datasource and I'm retrieving an application module through the app module pool.
jbo.doconnectionpooling is set to true.
Disconnect ApplicationModule upon release is checked.
Any ideas on why and how this is happening?
Thanks!

Please post test steps using the BC4J tester or a test script that illustrates the issue against a simple table. Otherwise, it is extremeley difficult to debug/diagnose the issue on this forum.
I have not seen this issue in any of the automated unit test scripts that exercise the ApplicationModule pooling.

Could not connect to the database
I have installed Oracle 11.5.10.2 and ADI 7.1.3.10.5
I can logon to oracle 11i but I cannot logon to ADI using the same username and password of oracle 11i.
In the ADI define databases form I have the following:
GWYUID: applsyspub/pub
FNDNAM: apps
NCA Connection: (blank)
Server ID: (blank)
I receive the following message:
''Could not connect to the database. Invalid Username or Password''
I can use tnsping and tnsping80 successfully from the client.
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you.Starting from 11.5.10 and above, you have to provide the 'Server ID'. Change the current value of 'Server ID' to match APPL_SERVER_ID value found in your dbc file.
Find the dbc file under:
$FND_TOP/secure directory
The Server ID field is one of the parameters used in setting up the database definition in ADI. -

In the rpd I use OCI default (10g/11g) and cheked that connection is successful and also when I click on view data option in the physical layer I am able to see the data. I cheked with DBAs and correct TNS entries are also there in the server. Could not understand where is the problem.
Please help.

Thanks in advance,
SriniOracle always uses DNS.
DNS consults the local host file.
Try in a command box
ping localhost
This should work.
If this doesn't work you need to edit
%WINDOWS%\'systems\drivers\etc\hosts
The first line needs to read
127.0.0.1 localhost

Hyperion IR Client 11.1.2.2 is not connecting to oracle database
Hi all,
I just recently migrate from Brio 8.3.1 to 11.1.2.2
My machine is Microsoft Windows Server 2008 64-bit.
My oracle client is 9.2.0 32-bit version
When i try to connect one of my BQY reports to oracle database, it just throw error "Oracle Error -1: ORA-12154: TNS could not resolve the connecter identifier specified"
I can ping the server. I can login using sqlplus.
I already follow the instruction in this thread by adding ORACLE_HOME variable.

Suddenly unable to connect Reports to database: ORA 12154 TNS can't resolve
Beginning end of last week, the Reports development tool (rwbuilder v10.1.2.0.2) suddenly lost the ability to connect to the database. The error is ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve the connect identifer specified.
However, nothing has changed on either the database or my workstation. SQL*Developer and the Network Administrator can both access the database, confirming the configuration of TNSNAMES.
A fresh install of the DevSuite (rwbuilder v9 something) onto another workstation yielded the same error. The problem seems to be with Reports, not my workstation, my TNSNAMES configuration, or the database itself.
What could possibly cause the database to reject only Reports?Well, continued searching this forum revealed the answer. It was found in:
ORA - 12154 - Unable to resolve TNS..
It seems that something did, indeed, change on my workstation. I renamed all of the TNSNAMES.ORA files other than the one used by the network administrator. It seems that Oracle*Reports requires its own copy of the TNSNAMES file. What I don't understand is how it gets updated when changes are made to the real TNSNAMES file via the network administrator.
In any event, I'm back up and running. Sorry for the wasted bandwidth. -

checkerr( errhp, OCIServerAttach( svrhp, errhp, (text*) server.c_str(),
(sb4) server.length(), 0));
Am I doing this in the correct location, or am I missing something else in the process for remote databases.
I have no trouble connecting to a local database with a empty string in the OCIServerAttach call.
Thanks in anticipation.ORA-12154: "Could not resolve service name"
ORA-12541: "No listener"
ORA-12154: "Could not resolve service name"
When you try to connect to your database through Developer, try using the connect_string you've been using with .world added to it (sometimes it's appended to your connect_string automatically, and if your sqlnet.ora file has NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN and NAME.DEFAULT_ZONE set to anything other than 'world' then you may have to create a new sqlnet.ora file and set NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN and NAME.DEFAULT_ZONE to world for it to work properly.
ORA-12541: "No listener"
You just need to verify that the listener is running and also is listening for the SID or CONNECT_DATA value being sent be PL/SQL Developer. For example, if the listener on your remote machine is listening for 'pl_sql' but when you try to connect to the remote database the PL/SQL Developer is sending a request to connect to 'plsql', then there is 'no listener' listening for 'plsql' and it fails. IF you can connect to the remote database via sqlplus, but then when you try it from PL/SQL Developer and it fails, that means the listener is in fact running, but not listening for the correct string being sent to it by the application.
Hope this helps.
