SQL Plus 8.0 Error
Hi everybody, I have Oracle 10g installed on my server and I get connected from my XP Service Pack 3 client computer using SQL Plus 8.0, but I always receive an error telling me that Oracle SQL PLUS has encountered a problem and needs to close. AppName: plus80w.exe, ModName: ora805.dll, Offset: 000eae13
Can you guys please help me to solve this problem?
Can't guarantee it's the same issue but we occasionally have a similar problem on some client machines here. For us it's usually a result of multiple versions of Oracle client being installed in the machine resulting in multiple Oracle homes on the windows path.
Check your windows path variable only has one Oracle home bin directory in it and that it is pointing to the correct place. We also find that it's case sensitive so make sure the path is entered in the correct case.

Hi,
i'm trying to delete duplicate records from a table and running following script. this script is triggered from a unix script. it successfully deletes the records but in the last throws following error message,

And when that's completed, consider ALTERing the table to add a unique index (or even a primary key) so you'll never need to do this again. -
In my Process Flow I have a SQL Plus activity that calls a custom DML Express program. How would I trigger the End with Errors activity if my custom DML program errrors out? Currently my SQL Plus activity is as follows:
--SET SERVEROUTPUT ON
-- PL/SQL
DECLARE
v_cmd VARCHAR2(500);
BEGIN
DBMS_AW.AW_ATTACH('AW', true);
DBMS_AW.EXECUTE('cda logfiles_dir');
v_cmd := 'Call CUSTOM_DML_PROG';
DBMS_AW.EXECUTE(v_cmd);
DBMS_AW.AW_DETACH('AW');
end;
quit
Is there a way to pass a parameter from my DML Express program to the SQL Plus activity that could somehow trigger End with Errors?
KristineHi David,
I have been able to run this process flow that calls my DML program several times however, I am now receiving the following errors:
RPE-01003: An infrastructure condition prevented the request from completing.
RPE-01038: Failed to evaluate expression declare "$LOOP_DETECT$" NUMBER := 0;function...
My function returns a Number and my transformation in the process flow has been defined as having Integer as the Data Type and by default the Literal value is True.
The complex condition has been defined as the following:
"CALL_GS_MTH_END_GL_ACT1"."CALL_GS_MTH_END_GL_ACT1" =0
Any ideas as to why all of a sudden I receive this error? I have been able to workaround this issue by deleting the transformation from the process flow, adding it back and re-deploying the process flow however this is not ideal.

Error 5 Initializing SQL*Plus
Hi, I've Oracle 9.2.0.5 over Solaris 9. I've set NLS_LANG=spanish_spain.WE8ISO8859P15
and when I try to start sqlplus (sqlplus "/as sysdba") I receive the next error:
$ sqlplus "/as sysdba"
Error 5 initializing SQL*Plus
NLS initialization error
I'm getting this error from this morning, when I delete the file $ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data/lx10006.nlb and I restore the same file but from version 9.2.0.1, may it be the cause?
Any idea? I haven't a copy of this file of version 9.2.05...
Thank you,I only can access to the database if I unset NLS_LANG or if I set NLS_LANG=american_america.WE8ISO8859P1

[Emergency] sqlplus gets "Error 5 initializing SQL*Plus NLS initialization"
Hi, all.
I issued sqlplus, but I got the following error.
What could be the reasons for the following error?

I solved this problem by adding "esumedi" user to dba group.
[esumedi(ngwapt1):/GXS/esumedi] cat /etc/group
adm::4:root,adm
dba::107:anylink,almnp,albat,alon,almnp180,alon180,albat180

-rwxr-x--x 1 oracle dba 1748248 May 6 2008 sqlldrO*
-rwxr-x--x 1 oracle dba 72048 Sep 17 2009 sqlplus*
-rwxr-x--x 1 oracle dba 72048 May 6 2008 sqlplusO*
ngwapt1:/ora_client/OraHome_1/bin>
My guess is that a oracle client user needs "read" and "excute" privilege.
Before I add "esumedi" to dba group, the user of esumedi could not read some file in the $ORACLE_HOME.
After I added "esumedi" to dba group, the user of esumedi was able to read some file in the $ORACLE_HOME.
This is my guess.
Is my guess right?
If I change "file access mode" under $ORACLE_HOME directory, it could be the another solution??
Thanks.

Restricting the user to operate DML's from SQL PLUS Environment
how to Restrict the user to operate DML statements from SQL PLUS Environment.
Once you restrict SCOTT user to not be able to do an INSERT command, the SQL*Plus returns an error for user SCOTT when he tries to execute an INSERT statement.
Note however, that this is enforced by SQL*Plus, not the database!
Look into the use of product_user_profile from Oracle documentation for more information.

Code runs correctly when compiled by SQL developer but not SQL Plus
I have a rather large package body I need to deploy and compile ... It's big and complex (I inherited the project). Our it dept is huge and scripts are deployed by the dba team and they seem to only use sql plus. My code deploys and runs fine when compiled in sql developer. Once I compile it from SQL plus it stops working. It runs and using debug statements I can see the values are correct but it no longer inserts the data into the proper tables. I get ZERO errors or warnings when this is compiled in SQL Plus and no errors are generated from the code at run time. I've diffed the extracts of the code from the DB after each deployment and the only difference is the blank lines which SQL Plus strips out when you load the file. Has anyone run into anything remotely similar and if so how did you solve it? I've tried modifying the code to no avail, adding in comments to preserve the white space makes no difference. The thing that really kills me is that there is no error at all.
Ok this is the problem area.... vReplyMessage is a clob. I've replaced it in this section of processing with a varchar2(32000). And now it works. I still would like to know why though. Nothing is changed when I load it though sqlplus or sql developer but this line " update swn_recip_response_t set SWN_RECIP_RESPONSE = vTextReply where notification_id = v_notification_id; " would never execute with the clob. Logging showed that the clob had the correct value though. I am puzzled.

Exported DDL don't run in SQL Plus
Greetings,
I'm using SQL Developer to export the DDL from my DB to a script .sql.
When I try to run it into SQL Plus I get errors because of the <cr> caracters from the INSERT INTO statements generated.
Example:
Insert into CNAE_110_CLASSE (CODIGO_SEC,CODIGO_DIV,CODIGO_GRP,CODIGO_CLA,DESCRICAO_CLA,CCOMPRE_CLA,TCOMPRE_CLA,NCOMPRE_CLA,NOTAS_CLA) values ('D','19','191','19100','CURTIMENTO E OUTRAS PREPARAÇOES DE COURO','# A fabricaçao de couros curtidos, envernizados, metalizados, camurças, atanados, cromos, etc.','# A regeneraçao, tingimento e pintura de couro','# As atividades de secagem e salga de couros e peles desenvolvidas em matadouros (15.11)<cr>
# A confecçao de vestuário de couro (18.12)',null);
This returns:
SP2-0734: unknown command beginning "A confecçao ..." - rest of line ignored.
I'm using Oracle 10g XE and SQL Developer 1.2.0.29.98 on a Fedora CORE 6 linux.
Does someone has a clue to solve this? Is it a bug or I forgot to configure something?
Thanks in advance.The label <<outer>> does not work in SQL Developer, neither does labels on loops.Yes, they do.
I imagine you've got this example in an SQL worksheet. There are a few issues with the worksheet delimiting statements, and apparently this is one of them.
The workaround here is very simple: encapsulating the lot in another anonymous block. Like this, impossible the <<outer>> falls off...
Enjoy,

Unable to use SQL Plus (Windows 2003 x64 Server)
Hi all
I have some trouble with tnsname.ora ...
I have installed Oracle Client 10.2.0.1.0 with the ODBC Driver and SQLplus etc.
Now I have configured in the "Net Manager" some "Service Naming" as I did
on other servers before. Then I Test the connection in the "Net Manager" it
seams to work fine.
When I now try to connect in SQL Plus the following error comes up:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
I did already do this:
- Add "...\NETWORK\ADMIN" to the Path Variable of the server
- sqlnet.ora looks like:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
- tnsnames.ora looks like:
MyName.WORLD =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myDomain.net)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = DBSIDxx)
I am accessing like MyName.WORLD ...
What do I have to do to get this working ???
Thanks for any comments!
Best regards
Frank Uray1) Please verify that there is only one tnsnames.ora file on your system.
If there are several (other than in 'samples' directories), please make them all look the same and try again.
2) If not, please post the contents of your tnsnames.ora AND sqlnet.ora files.

Re-read your original message and noteiced you posted the tnsnames.ora stuff.
Your alias is 'MyName.world', therefore you want to access using the connect string such as
SQLPLUS system/[email protected]
If you want to use SQLPLUS system/password@myname (no .world) then either remove it from the alias or add the default_domain info in sqlnet.ora -
"ORA-1722 Invalid number" error while runing a SQL script in SQL*Plus
Hello,
I created a SQL script that is intended to populate tables with
baseline data. When I run the script in the SQL*Plus program
that comes with the Oracle 8.1.6 (client), I receive an "ORA-
1722 Invalid number".
The error always occurs when SQL*Plus tries to execute the
following SQL statement:
insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
('cm',modules_seq.currval,1046682,'y');
The datatypes for the columns on the components table are as
follows:
db_ind varchar2(2);
module_id number;
ext_compid number;
active varchar2(1);
It seems that for some reason Oracle is having trouble
recognizing 1046682 as a number.
I also tried the following INSERT statements to see if that
would work:
insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
('cm',modules_seq.currval,to_number('1046682'),'y');
insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
('cm',modules_seq.currval,'1046682','y');
but I still receive the same error message
Is there some NLS setting(s) I need to modify so that Oracle
does not give me this error? Does anyone know the answer to
this problem?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Oscar
(NOTE: I also receive this same error when trying run the
script in SQL Navigator and Toad programs)Please see the following docs.

set feedback off
spool $GEC_TOP/log/ge_ar_statement.sh
select output_file_name

help me out as soon as possible.
I need this solution quickly and thank everyone in advance.
Thanks.Can you put your coding between code statements, like shown in the FAQ. It will be easier to read.
Looking at your script, my first guess is that crontab will not find your sqlplus since your script does not have $HOME/bin in the $PATH. From what I understand, running .profile in your script will not work either because variables are exported to sub-shells, not to the shell above. You can call your script with a dot like . ./script which means that the script will run like it was typed at the command prompt. But it will be less confusing to define appropriate variables in the script. eg.
ORACLE_SID=my_instance_name
ORACLE_HOME=/my_path_to_oracle_home_directory
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
I remember some slightly different way of coding to handle the sqlplus return codes.
For instance:
sqlplus -s /nolog > /dev/null <<-EOF
connect system/manager
@ssm.sql
whenever oserror exit failure
whenever sqlerror exit failure
EOF
sql_err=$?
if [ $sql_err -ne 0 ]; then
echo "FAILURE"
else
echo "SUCCESS"
fiThe - in -EOF supresses tab's
Using connect will prevent ps from showing your login credentials
In some versions of bash the ending EOF needs to be at the beginning of the line to work.

Btw, if you "source" a script running it like . .script, than an exit in that script will log you out. -

Thanks & Regards.In the document 294932.1 Section 4 there are no pre-installation patches or update for OS RedHat LinuxAS4.
When I type echo $LD_ASSUME_KERNEL it doesn't display any value so do I need to set the LD_Assume_Kernal value manually.
If yes, please let me know the path and command to set the kernel value.
