SQL profilier details

Hi All,
Last day I faced a serious performance issue in my one of my query.
I checked the explain plan ,it got changed but was not sure why and how it got changed.
I surprised how it got changed when all other ,even the number of rows in the tables assoicated with the sql was same.
After more anlysis came to know that one profilier is attached to the sql,which was created by my friend .
I dont want to remove the profilier,but would like the details of the profiler,.
Is there any view ,to check details of the profiler?
DB version :11.2.0.3
OS version : AIX 6.1
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I think you talking about SQL Profile not user profile. User profile is depend user limits.
A SQL profile is a set of auxiliary information specific to a SQL statement. Conceptually, a SQL
profile is to a SQL statement what statistics are to a table or index. The database can use the
auxiliary information to improve execution plans.
Please check  detailed info about SQL Profile: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/manageability/sql-profiles-technical-overview-128535.pdf

    What, exactly, are you looking at in the AWR report that allows you to decide that some SQL statements are doing full tablescans but, at the same time, doesn't show you which tables are being scanned ?
    If the statement is visible in the "SQL ordered by ... " sections of the report then the execution plans and workloed for the statement is also in the AWR. You can access it either from Enterprise Manager, or by running the $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/awrsqrpt.sql report.

  • Sql in master detail form

    I am interested in the sql used by masterdetail oracle forms.
    Suppose you don't have any crietriea then we can do just
    masterblock=select * from master
    detailblock=select * from detail
    if there are crietrieas then
    how does it uses the sql in detail query
    like below or not
    masterblock=select * from master where ..=..
    detailblock=select detail.* from master,detail where master.fld=detail.fld and master..=..

    If you look at the Copy Value from Item property of the items or items in the detail block that are specified in the join condition of the relation, you'll see that the value is copied from the master block. This creates the where condition in the query.
    If you look at :system.last_query (you can programatically message it out or display it in a text item), you'll see something like:
    SELECT ROWID,ORDER_ID,LINE_ITEM_ID,PRODUCT_ID,UNIT_PRICE,QUANTITY FROM order_items WHERE (ORDER_ID=2354) order by line_item_id
    In this particular case, the "(ORDER_ID=2354)" came from the Copy Value from Item property for the ORDER_ID item in the ORDER_ITEMS (detail) block, and the "order by line_item_id" came from the ORDER BY Clause property for the ORDER_ITEMS block.

  • SQL stored procedure Staging.GroomDwStagingData stuck in infinite loop, consuming excessive CPU

    Hello
    I'm hoping that someone here might be able to help or point me in the right direction. Apologies for the long post.
    Just to set the scene, I am a SQL Server DBA and have very limited experience with System Centre so please go easy on me.
    At the company I am currently working they are complaining about very poor performance when running reports (any).
    Quick look at the database server and CPU utilisation being a constant 90-95%, meant that you dont have to be Sherlock Holmes to realise there is a problem. The instance consuming the majority of the CPU is the instance hosting the datawarehouse and in particular
    a stored procedure in the DWStagingAndConfig database called Staging.GroomDwStagingData.
    This stored procedure executes continually for 2 hours performing 500,000,000 reads per execution before "timing out". It is then executed again for another 2 hours etc etc.
    After a bit of diagnosis it seems that the issue is either a bug or that there is something wrong with our data in that a stored procedure is stuck in an infinite loop

    Store procedures executed
    1. dbo.p_GetDwStagingGroomingConfig (executes immediately)
    2. Staging.GroomDwStagingData (this is the procedure that executes in 2 hours before being cancelled)
    The 1st stored procedure seems to return a table with the "xml" / required parameters to execute Staging.GroomDwStagingData
    Sample xml below (cut right down)
    <Config>
    <Target>
    <ModuleName>TransformActivityDim</ModuleName>
    <WarehouseEntityName>ActivityDim</WarehouseEntityName>
    <RequiredWarehouseEntityName>MTV_System$WorkItem$Activity</RequiredWarehouseEntityName>
    <Watermark>2015-01-30T08:59:14.397</Watermark>
    </Target>
    <Target>

    <Watermark>2015-01-30T08:59:14.397</Watermark>
    </Target>
    </Config>
    If you look carefully you will see that the 1st <target> is missing the ManagedTypeViewName, which when "shredded" by the Staging.GroomDwStagingData returns the following result set
    Example
    DECLARE @Config xml
    DECLARE @GroomingCriteria NVARCHAR(MAX)
    SET @GroomingCriteria = '<Config><Target><ModuleName>TransformActivityDim</ModuleName><WarehouseEntityName>ActivityDim</WarehouseEntityName><RequiredWarehouseEntityName>MTV_System$WorkItem$Activity</RequiredWarehouseEntityName><Watermark>2015-01-30T08:59:14.397</Watermark></Target><Target><ModuleName>TransformActivityDim</ModuleName><WarehouseEntityName>ActivityDim</WarehouseEntityName><RequiredWarehouseEntityName>MTV_System$WorkItem$Activity</RequiredWarehouseEntityName><ManagedTypeViewName>MTV_Microsoft$SystemCenter$Orchestrator$RunbookAutomationActivity</ManagedTypeViewName><Watermark>2015-01-30T08:59:14.397</Watermark></Target></Config>'
    SET @Config = CONVERT(xml, @GroomingCriteria)
    SELECT
    ModuleName = p.value(N'child::ModuleName[1]', N'nvarchar(255)')
    ,WarehouseEntityName = p.value(N'child::WarehouseEntityName[1]', N'nvarchar(255)')
    ,RequiredWarehouseEntityName =p.value(N'child::RequiredWarehouseEntityName[1]', N'nvarchar(255)')
    ,ManagedTypeViewName = p.value(N'child::ManagedTypeViewName[1]', N'nvarchar(255)')
    ,Watermark = p.value(N'child::Watermark[1]', N'datetime')
    FROM @Config.nodes(N'/Config/*') Elem(p)
    /* RESULTS - NOTE THE NULL VALUE FOR ManagedTypeViewName
    ModuleName WarehouseEntityName RequiredWarehouseEntityName ManagedTypeViewName Watermark
    TransformActivityDim ActivityDim MTV_System$WorkItem$Activity NULL 2015-01-30 08:59:14.397
    TransformActivityDim ActivityDim MTV_System$WorkItem$Activity MTV_Microsoft$SystemCenter$Orchestrator$RunbookAutomationActivity 2015-01-30 08:59:14.397
    When the procedure enters the loop to build its dynamic SQL to delete relevant rows from the inbound schema tables it concatenates various options / variables into an executable string. However when adding a NULL value to a string the entire string becomes
    NULL which then gets executed.
    Whilst executing "EXEC(NULL)" would cause SQL to throw an error and be caught, executing the following doesnt
    DECLARE @null_string VARCHAR(100)
    SET @null_string = 'hello world ' + NULL
    EXEC(@null_string)
    SELECT @null_string
    So as it hasnt caused an error the next part of the procedure is to move to the next record and this is why its caught in an infinite loop
    DELETE @items WHERE ManagedTypeViewName = @View
    The value for the variable @View is the ManagedTypeViewName which is NULL, as ANSI_NULLS are set to ON in the connection and not overridded in the procedure then the above statement wont delete anything as it needs to handle NULL values differently (IS NULL),
    so we are now stuck in an infinite loop executing NULL for 2 hours until cancelled.
    I amended the stored procedure and added the following line before the loop statement which had the desired effect and "fixed" the performance issue for the time being
    DELETE @items WHERE ManagedTypeViewName IS NULL
    I also noticed that the following line in dbo.p_GetDwStagingGroomingConfig is commented out (no idea why as no notes in the procedure)
    --AND COALESCE(i.ManagedTypeViewName, j.RelationshipTypeViewName) IS NOT NULL
    There are obviously other ways to mitigate the dynamic SQL string being NULL, there's more than one way to skin a cat and thats not why I am asking this question, but what I am concerned about is that is there a reason that the xml / @GroomingCriteria is incomplete
    and / or that the procedures dont handle potential NULL values.
    I cant find any documentation, KBs, forum posts of anyone else having this issue which somewhat surprises me.
    Would be grateful of any help / advice that anyone can provide or if someone can look at their 2 stored procedures on a later version to see if it has already been fixed. Or is it simply that we have orphaned data, this is the bit that concerns most as I dont
    really want to be deleting / updating data when I have no idea what the knock on effect might be
    Many many thanks
    Andy

    First thing I would do is upgrade to 2012 R2 UR5. If you are running non-US dates you need the UR5 hotfix also.

  • SQL Exception: A lock could not be obtained within the time requested

    Hi Friends,
    In one of my processes there is an automatic activity which reads some records from an excel sheet and loads them in a separated array of objects and then for each object in the array it creates a copy using Split-N. There are about 2000 records read which takes about 3 minutes to process in Fuego Studio. But, when it comes to process Split-N activity, it takes pretty long time... keeps processing the for loop for about 15 mins and then I get SQL Exception: SQL Exception: A lock could not be obtained within the time requested (Details below). In the meantime it processes close to 950 records.
    In order to resolve it I tried increasing timeout interval in Server Preferences to 2400 secs changig default 1200 secs but no results.
    To my utter surprise none of the logMessages get logged until Split-N activity completes.
    Can somebody please put more light on this and suggest if I'm doing something wrong?
    FYI, I'm posting my Split-N code and the SQL exception details.

  • Lync User Phone Number Changed in AD - Still Showing Old (Normalized) Number Days Later in Lync Client Contact Detail

    Environment:  Lync 2013 backend; Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 clients.  Enterprise Voice not implemented.  November 2013 CU Applied on Server.
    Issue:  Lync user (User A) phone number changed in AD but still showing old number for others days later.
    Believed Cause:  User A has not logged into Lync since change to republish new phone number?
    So after reading this http://masteringlync.com/ I am beginning to think that something I perceived as an issue may actually be by design?
    Action:
    User A work phone number changed in AD.  User A has only one phone entry in AD.  Normalization rule in place to basically leave number unchanged (working)
    Result:
    New phone number propogated fine to Exchange/Outlook fine.  Old number displaying only in Lync client when viewing User A contact card detail
    Lync 2010 Client displays only old number when looking at Client A contact detail (this client only presents phone numbers if they are actually normalized)
    Lync 2013 Client displays two work numbers.
             One that we identify as a "display number" just as entered in AD - this shows correctly as the new number.  Another that we identify as the "normalized number" which is still the old
    number (same as 2010 Client)
    Same results whether contact is saved in Lync Client or not and is not related to Outlook contacts - in fact one test was with a Lync account that is not Mail Enabled.
    I did a dbanalyze to view the SQL database detail for User A and see that Category 'userInformation' has the old phone number and the time stamp on it seems to coincide with a Lync Cllient database change (user login or refresh on that end) so this seems
    to futher confirm my findings thus my reaching the point of conceding it might be out of my control.
    My Question I guess is ....
    Have others discovered this?  Is this a bug or do normalized phone numbers actually requre a client login to accept/republish the number correctly to others even though the information is updated in AD?  User detail and how it propogates seems to
    be the biggest mystery and it gets harder and harder to explain to users why changes aren't displaying accuralely.

    Thanks Richard... your blog definitely hit home with what I was seeing but guess I just didn't want to accept that as the end of the road on this.  I'm still in a little misbelief that client interaction is necessary to update a backend change.
    This process really makes phone numbers in Lync an unreliable source given a user will never know if it is it up to date.  And the problem with Lync 2013 client is it shows both numbers in the client ... the address book one with the
    updated AD numbers and the one the normalized AD one that the user has to login to republish.  I now more fully understand the process but trying to explain that to users when they see different work numbers .. ugh.
    Oh well, guess the important part is to understand the process so thanks again.

  • How to print a pl/sql raw or BLOB to html page with htp.p command

    Hi!
    I have a jpeg image I retrieved from the OID and it is stored in an DBMS_LDAP.BINVAL_COLLECTION, which is supposed to be similar to a BLOB or PL/SQL raw collection. What I want to do is to print it to my portal page. I have been using htp.p to print all the other values such as name, department etc, and the only thing I can't get out to the page is the image. How do I do this? I suppose I can just declare a variable of the type BLOB, and give it the binary value I have in the BINVAL_COLLECTION, but then how do I get it to my html code? Do I have to convert it to something, or use some function. I don't know much pl/sql so detailed instructions would be very helpful. Thank you
    /Marie

    I tried that, but I get the error "Wrong number or types of arguments" in the Read method. See my code below:
    PROCEDURE read_image(p_photo DBMS_LDAP.BINVAL_COLLECTION)
    AS
         src_lob blob;
         buffer raw(2048);
         amt BINARY_INTEGER := 2048;
         pos INTEGER := 1;
         doctype number;
         BEGIN
         owa_util.mime_header( 'image/bmp', false );
         owa_util.http_header_close;
         -- the query
         --select into src_lob from where ;
         LOOP
    --THIS IS WHERE I CHANGE THE BLOB FOR MY BINVAL_COLLECTION, BUT GET AN ERROR
         DBMS_LOB.READ (p_photo, amt, pos, buffer);
         pos := pos + amt;
         htp.prn(utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2(buffer));
         END LOOP;
         exception when others then
         NULL;
         END;
    Is there something wrong with this code, or else how do you mean I shold just replace the blob whith the DMBS_LDAP.BINVAL_COLLECTION

  • Issue while Upgrading to SQL 2014 from 2012. " The specified Edition upgrade is not supported."

    Hello Team
    I am seeing this issue while I am trying to do an in-place upgrade from SQL Server 2012 to SQL 2014. Both being Enterprise Editions I am still seeing the below error message in the Feature Upgrade checks.
    " The specified Edition upgrade is not supported"
    Please let me know if anyone else has faced this issue and any workarounds? I am not doing "Edition Upgrade", just wanted to upgrade same edition of 2012 to 2014.
    SQL Server details that is being upgrade:
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3368.0 (X64)
    May 22 2013 17:10:44
    Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation
    Enterprise Edition: Core-based Licensing (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2 <X64> (Build 9200: )
    thanks

    Hi Shanky_621
    Thanks for the reply. Yes I was told that it is SQL 2014 Enterprise Edition. Is there a way to verify that? Also yes I did not select the free Evaluation or Express Editions.
    Just run the setup you got for SQL server 2014 and you would reach to page where it would say enterprise or standard after that cancel the setup . Actually version number can be found from Mediainfo located in same folder where setup.exe is located but edition
    cannot be found by that way.

  • SQL 2012 SP1 VMM Deployment

    Is it even possible to deploy sql 2012 sp1 with vmm?
    The below are the high level steps I followed.
    1. Create VM with Windows Server 2012 R2
    2. Prepare the SQL Server 2012 SP1 image and note down the instance id used
    3. Sysprep the VHD (generalize, oobe)
    4. Copy the Syspreped VHD into VMM Library
    5. Create VM template and map the syspreped VHD
    6. Under SQL Configuration, specify all the SQL Configuration details(use the same instance id that was given during sql image preparation)
    7. Create the Service Template
    8. Create the Service and deploy to cloud or host groups
    Error (22703)
    The SQL media configured on the template is not supported by Virtual Machine Manager. Virtual Machine Manager only supports SQL2008 and SQL2012 for SQL deployment.
    Recommended Action
    Fix the SQL media path to point to a valid setup location for SQL2008 or SQL2012
    Just to clarify, VM gets created just fine, sql setup doesn't even start, the error above is everything I could find regarding this issue.
    The media is at c:\sql on the VHD file, I used the same path in deployment options.

    Ok, you can close this. Here's a solution for my trouble (So yes, works with SQL 2012 SP1):
    1. Create VM with Windows Server 2012 R2
    2. Extract and copy the SQL Server ISO to C:\SQL, "install" sql, note the instance ID
    3. Sysprep the VHD (generalize, oobe)
    4. Copy the Syspreped VHD into VMM Library
    5. Create VM template and map the syspreped VHD
    6. Under SQL Configuration, specify all the SQL Configuration details, use the same instance id and media path that was given during sql image preparation. (Media path is case sensitive, but do not take my word for it. In case it's case insensitive
    you got nothing to lose).
    7. Create the Service Template
    8. Create the Service and deploy to cloud or host groups
    It works ONLY THIS WAY. NO installs from ISO or FILE share, only install SQL from locally copied setup files. I cannot believe how retarded that is. I got to give credits to the person that made me try all various ways to install it.

    Hi Experts
    I have one PC where the user always has to enter the SQL server details every time they login.

  • Sql Profile 11g

    Hello Experts,
    I was recently ran an sql tuning advisor in my 11g instance for a complex sql.
    tuning advisor recomended to accept a "sql profile" to optimize my query.later when i google i understand sql profile will help to tune a query without touching the actual sql.it may suggest hints to use.my doubts are below.
    1.can any give more about sql profile
    2.if sql profile suggests hints or other details from which table we can get sql profile details
    Thanks
    Mohamed Sameer

    SQL Profile is a set of hints which are applied by oracle itself to change the plan. I think even saying this is not really correct. SQL Profile basically would contain the environment information i.e. the variables, parameters and everything else which are required to prepare that plan. You should check in this forum for few discussions which have happened about it already including reading the link given by Rajesh.
