SQL query to empty database ...

Hello every one I have to questions
1. Is there any SQL command by executing which I can see where particular foreign key belongs to. For example when I am trying to delete a data in particular table I got an foreign key relation ship error, I can see the name of foreign key but not the table, how to find the table ?.
2. I want to delete all data in all table of particular view. Is there a special command to do that ?.
I am using PLSQL Developer.
thanks.

Hi,
1 how to find the table ?
select *
from   all_constraints
where  constraint_name = your_FK_name
and    constraint_type = 'R';
2. I want to delete all data in all table of particular view. Is there a special command to do that ?.Afaik there's no special command.
You'd need to create/generate a script that deletes (or truncates) your data from the tables.

  • SQL query for empty string

    I am trying to execute the following SQl query, SELECT * FROM Failure WHERE ID = '123' AND RepairAction = ' ';, using the DB Tools Execute Query.vi. This query never finds the record in my database. My database contains a record where the ID filed contains the value of '123' and the RepairAction field is an empty string. If I remove the 'AND RepairAction ' ';' text from my query statement, the record is found. I believe my problem is that I am not using the correct syntax to describe and empty string. I have tried the following: '', ' ', "", " ", and NULL as empty string arguments, and none of these work.
    I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what the correct syntax is for an empty string or if there is another approach I need to take.
    Thank you in advance for your help,
    Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    While creating your table "Failure", was the column "ID" delclared as intiger or varchar? If it is intiger and you use '123' , it wont return the results. You will have to try without the inverted comas ' '.

  • How to set fetchsize of sql Query when using Database Adapter.

    Hi All,
    I am using DatabaseAdapter to connect to database and retriving huge amount of data.For improvement in the performance I want to set the "fetchsize" of sql query. I know fetchsize can be preset in Java using Jdbc 2.0 API.Please let me know how to set this value in BPEL when using DBAdapter?
    Thanks
    Chandra

    I talked to the developer of the db adapter - and he told me this feature will be available in BPEL PM 10.1.3 (which is supposed to be production later this year, and a public beta soon). If this is an emergency I would recommend going throug Oracle support and have them file an enhancement for 10.1.2.0.2

  • Store SQL Query in Oracle database

    Hello,
    I am storing SQL query in database. here is an example of query.
    INSERT INTO TABLE_1 Values (' " + getValue1() + " ', ' " + getValue2() + " ' )
    getValue1() and getValue2() are functions to retrieve values.
    When I read query from the database and execute it, it doesn't read values from function.
    After I read query from database I would expect it to be
    INSERT INTO TABLE_1 Values ('value1', ' value2' ) but it is not reading values and trying to execute whatever I got from database.
    Any help?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply. Let me give you more info.
    All I am trying to do is storing queries in oracle
    database to use it in future for reporting. As I am
    doing reporting where clause will be different every
    time. Reporting involves queries not updates. But in any case that means that you would use a java SQL string that is useable via a prepared statement. As such your statement would look like....
    INSERT INTO TABLE_1 Values (?,?)
    Is it not possible to substitute variable string I
    got from database?What do you mean?
    SQL is SQL. You construct SQL so it is valid and runs. Can you construct SQL so it runs a function/select and uses that value in some more SQL - depends on the database, but usually.
    But that has nothing to do with java - it is SQL.
    Query contains variables that I have in Java code .Then it is SQL. It is java. You use bind variables (see PreparedStatement) and assign values to it.
    The SQL for such a query would look like the following...
    select field1, field2 from table1 where id=?
    In your java you would then use something like PreparedStatement.setInt(1, 100), to fill in the value for the '?' in the above.
    You might also note that your solution will not work for any arbritrary SQL statement unless you are also storing meta data about the SQL itself. For instance the following SQL statements would return the same result set but your java code would have to populate the bind variables different for both...
    select field1, field2 from table1 where id=? and name=?
    select field1, field2 from table1 where name=? and id=?

  • Same sql query with multiple database links

    Hi All,
    i want to execute an sql query for a SELECT LIST Item. which should use database links in it's query.
    i'm having a list of database links in the region. say :LOC which is having 10 items each linking to different databases.
    i want to use following query for another item in same page.
    select customer_name from working_lines@:LOC where
    phone_no:phone_no
    can i do this.
    Thank you All.

    What we have done before is to create a report based on a PL/SQL procedure that returns a SQL statement.
    The PL/SQL code grabs the "selected" database link from :LOC and parses the SQL QUERY you want to execute replacing some token (like [LINK]) with '@DBNAME'.
    Lets say your SQL statement is coded like this:
    mySQL := 'SELECT cust_name FROM working_lines[LINK] where phone_no = :Phone;'
    Then all you would have to do to replace '[LINK]' with the proper DB alias would be:
    mySQL := REPLACE(mySQL, '[LINK]', '@'||:LOC);
    and then return the new SQL ...
    if :LOC has something like 'V10GPROD' your SQL would look like :
    SELECT cust_name FROM working_lines@V10GPROD where phone_no = :Phone;
    The beauty of this is that you can also include a "null" option that means the select statement will be executed on THIS database...

  • Help with SQL Query Involving Three Database Tables

    Hi,
    My SQL is very rusty since I have not touched it in over one year.
    I was given an SQL question in a job interview and I am curious to know the right answer.
    This was a pre-prepared written test and the interviewer did not know the answer.
    There are three database tables: STUDENTS, COURSES and STUDENT_COURSES
    Table STUDENTS has STUDENT_ID and STUDENT_NAME columns.
    Table COURSES has COURSE_ID and COURSE_DESCRIPTION columns.
    Table STUDENT_COURSES has columns STUDENT_ID and COURSE_ID.
    Provide a query that returns all the students that are enrolled in all the courses.
    Thanks,
    Avi.

    It is probably good to say that this task may be solved such way, if database normalized and there are references

  • I am using the database connectivity toolkit to retrieve data using a SQL query. The database has 1 million records, I am retrieving 4000 records from the database and the results are taking too long to get, is there any way of speeding it up?

    I am using the "fetch all" vi to do this, but it is retrieving one record at a time, (if you examine the block diagram) How can i retrieve all records in a faster more efficient manner?

    If this isn't faster than your previous method, then I think you found the wrong example. If you have the Database Connectivity Toolkit installed, then go to the LabVIEW Help menu and select "Find Examples". It defaults to searching for tasks, so open the "Communicating with External Applications" and "Databases" and open the Read All Data. The List Column names just gives the correct header to the resulting table and is a fast operation. That's not what you are supposed to be looking at ... it's the DBTools Select All Data subVI that is the important one. If you open it and look at its diagram, you'll see that it uses a completely different set of ADO methods and properties to retrieve all the data.

  • Sql query/subquery large database

    Hi,
    I'm trying to select users from a log which also has an entry in the log in the month before.. I manage to get results, but they are pretty slow, and I would really like them to get faster..
    select count(*)
    from(select user_id from app_user_log
    where time_stamp >= to_date('01/05/2006','dd-mm-yy')
    and time_stamp < to_date('01/06/2006','dd-mm-yy')
    and description='Open'
    INTERSECT
    select user_id
    from app_user_log
    where time_stamp >= to_date('01/04/2006','dd-mm-yy')
    and time_stamp < to_date('01/05/2006','dd-mm-yy')
    and description='Open')
    As you can see I want to count the number of users that in May that also has a log entry in April.. The log file is ~500k lines a month, and the search time for my query is about 10secs...

    What happens if you try this?
    SELECT userid
      FROM (SELECT userid, TRUNC(time_stamp, 'MM') ts_month
              FROM userlog
             WHERE time_stamp  >= TO_DATE('01/05/2006','dd/mm/yyyy')
               AND description  = 'Open'
    GROUP BY userid
    HAVING MIN(ts_month) = TRUNC(SYSDATE, 'MM')
    ;And do you have indices on this table, for example on userid/time_stamp/description?
    Today, 1 mio. records is not considered as a large dataset, given average hardware specifications.

  • SQL Query with MS-Access Database

    Hi,
    I have linked my oracle database with MS-Access via a DB LINK. i can access the data from MS-ACCESS, but i have a problem that when i specify the column name or define a where clause in my query it gives me the error ORA-00904: invalid identfier ..
    This query fetch the data without any problem SELECT * FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS but when i run SELECT EMP_ID FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS it gives me the error i mentioned above. (Column name have No problem or mistake of spelling even CASE)
    also when i try to put where clause in the query it gives me same error SELECT * FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS WHERE EMP_ID = '100' (Error)
    is there any change in SQL query for ACCESS database ??
    any clue
    Regards
    Rehman

    Are column/table names in access case sensitive? Issue
    DESC TBLREPORT@M_ACCESS If column EMP_ID actual name shows up in mixed/lower case, enclose it in double quotes and use the exact case. E.g., if column name shows up as Emp_Id, use:
    SELECT "Emp_Id" FROM TBLREPORT@M_ACCESSSY.

    Any guidelines to achieve this?

  • Having trouble writing to a database although SQL query is correct

    Hi there. I am trying to write an sql query to a database but I am failing to understand what is going wrong in terms of executing the query.
    I have the following code.
    static public int writeToStockTable (String suppIn, String nameIn, String typeIn, float quantIn, float priceIn, String descIn, String styleIn, String finishIn)         {               // Temporary variable to hold the SQL query               String SQLString, SQLString2;               ResultSet rs = null;                                     // Build a string containing the SQL INSERT instruction to be used later             SQLString = "INSERT INTO "+typeIn+" VALUES ('1', '" + suppIn + "', '" + nameIn + "', " + quantIn + ", " + priceIn + ", '"+descIn+"', '"+styleIn+"', '"+finishIn+"')";             SQLString2 = "SELECT Name FROM Suppliers WHERE Name = '" + suppIn + "'";                                         try                   {                         // The createStatement() method creates a Statement object.  Object will be                         // attached to my reference variable (statement) defined at the top of class.                         statement = connectionToBellFiresDB.createStatement();                                                 // The executeUpdate() statement can be used here to execute an                         // SQL INSERT instruction.                         rs = statement.executeQuery (SQLString2);                         if ((rs == null))                         {                             System.out.println ("Trying to say no supplier");                             return (-2);                         }                                                 else                         {                             System.out.println (SQLString);                             statement.executeUpdate (SQLString);                         }                                           }                 catch (SQLException exception)                   {                       return (-1);    // Return -1 if problem writing record to file                   }                             return (0);  // Return with 0 if record successfully written                       }
    Please ignore the attributes not used, it is very much a work in progress. The command that prints SQLString prints
    INSERT INTO Fireplace VALUES ('1', 'a', 'a', 1.0, 1.0, 'a', 'a', 'a')
    which is correct, but will return the error code -1 when asked to execute the query. The database jdbc:odbc driver has been initialised in the control panel and the program has no other problems accessing the database as far as i am aware.
    Any help would be appreciated, i hate database connections :)

    Im sorry i dont know what you mean by eating the exception, im quite a noob at programming to be honest!
    How do i print it out and what is a stack trace?Do you know what an exception is? If not, then you should stay far away from JDBC/Database programming for the time being.
    Read [the Exception Tutorial|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/exceptions/] first.
    Then: an exception has quite a bit of useful information attached that tells you what went wrong.
    In your case you catch the exception and ignore everything it could tell you by simply returning -1. Returning 0 and -1 to indicate success/failure is a very bad idea and should not be used in Java code, it's a C-style convention for C-era programming languages. In Java you use exceptions instead.
    For starters you could simply add "exception.printStackTrace()" in your catch-block to get some more information out of the exception.
