Sql server 2014 developer installation in "global rules" requieres to restart computer, button next is disabled
I'm trying to install SQL Server 2014 Developer. In "global rules" requieres to restart computer. It would not be a big issue, if the next button was not disabled. I can't continue the installation and the only way is to cancel the installation.
I'm trying to install it on Windows 8.
Hello,
Please restart the computer if after the restart SQL Server continues to failed at the Restart Required rule, the run SQL
Server setup with the following switch.

SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition
Microsoft is no longer offering version 2012 developer edition. So, is SQL Server 2014 developer edition ok to use with SQL Server 2012? Thanks.
AFAIK you can ask/purchase developer edition in local MS office.. But it is certainly OK to use SQL Server 2012 Dev Edition to manage servers from different versions.

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition
Hi All,
I tried to buy and download the Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition for studying purposes, but it turned out that this specialized edition is not available in my region - Middle East.
The Express edition is available free of charge for all regions, but it lacks the more advanced administration & BI features I am interested in, whereas the Evaluation edition is limited to 180-day.
Please, advise how I can purchase the Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition.
Thanks in advance,
Corina. You can buy developer edition from below links
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/SQL-Server-2014-Developer-Edition/productID.298540400
and
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-SQL-Server-2014-Developer/dp/B00JKMY8KC
If anyhow there is delay in shipment you can go with SQL Server 2014 evaluation edition. It is same as Developer but can only be used for 180 days

I reinstalled, specifying NT AUTHORITY\LOCALSYSTEM for the SQL Server Database Engine account. After the successful installation, I used Sql Server Configuration Manager to change the account to LocalService
(NT AUTHORITY\LocalService). The Database Engine is restarting OK.
So, my accounts are:
SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER): NT AUTHORITY\LocalService
SQL Full-text Fiter Daemon Launcher (MSSQLSERVER): NT Service\MSSQLFDLauncher
SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER): NT Service\ReportServer
SQL Server Browser: NT AUTHORITY\LOCALSERVICE
SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER): NT AUTHORITY\NETWORKSERVICE
I check out the link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Serv_Perm. I'm a bit confused how the NT Service\* accounts are created, such as NT Service\MSSQLSERVER. However, I did see this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191153.aspx#manual;
perhaps I need to read it further.
Regardless, this is my desktop machine, the installation is for development only, it's inside our network, and no external users will be accessing this SQL Server instance. So, while I haven't fully read the details on running under LocalService, I
believe this will meet my needs.
Thanks again for your help. -
SQL SERVER 2014 Developer Trial
I am attempting to install sqlserver 2014 Developer Edition
My os is Windows 8 (64 bit) Home Edition
Ive extracted the software and burned the files to my DVD (I also tried doing this from my hd
I am the only user account on my PC and I am the administrator and I have full control on all of my settings
When I invoke the setup executable (Ive tried run this as administrator or I have just run this) , go to the Installation section and choose
New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation, I get the following error msg
"Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"
I hit the internet and found that this error would occur if the nbr of characters in the environment variables Path statement >= 2048. I checked mine - it is only 952
I then ran the System Configuration Checker - I get an error for the Rule - "Setup Administrator. It says the SQL Server Setup does not have administrator rights on this computer. To continue, use an account with administrator rights"
I did additional research on Microsoft's site and found (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000257)_- a fix that involved editing the Local Security Policy - Ive discovered through additional research that the file that drives this is not availalble in Windows
8 Home Edition
Tired and in dire need of help -
WillSince the error message is a generic one, it is difficult to draw any far-reaching conclusions from it. All we know is "something went wrong".
From where did you get files? If it was a download, try again; the bits may have been corrupted.
You can also look in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Setup Bootstrap\Logs and see if you find any more clues.
By the way, when I look at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
I don't see Windows 8 Home listed, but there is an entry for "Windows 8" alone, whatever that means.

Hello all,
after populating the Toolbox of SSMS with the "Maintenance Plan Tasks" all task are disabled. The reason is simple a bad path to the DTS modules. The path in the Toolbox points to ...\DTSTasks\... Installation has created a path of ...\DTS\Tasks\...
This is clearly a bug. But perhaps there is a workaround by changing something in the configuration. Any idea where to look for the responsible configuration file?
Regards UweHi Uwe,
Based on my research, just as you said, the path of Maintenance Tasks in the Choose Toolbox Items dialog box points to ...\DTSTasks\..., but the actual path is...\DTS\Tasks\....I can reproduce the issue in my SQL Server 2014, SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server
2008 R2 environments. It seems that this is a known issue. But the issue doesn’t affect the use of maintenance tasks, we can still drag the tasks to design the maintenance plan.
If you have concern about this issue, it is my pleasure to help you to reflect your recommendation to the proper department for their consideration. Please feel free to submit your situation on our product to the following link
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/. Your feedback is valuable for us to improve our products and increase the level of service provided.
As to the issue that all tasks are disabled in the Toolbox of "Maintenance Plan Tasks", please make sure that you have selected the tasks in the Choose Toolbox Items dialog box. Then double-click the task in Toolbox pane or drag the task to maintenance
design tab.
Thanks,

SQL Server 2014 PowerPivot installation on SharePoint 2013
Hello:
I saw many references on the topic but one thing is still not clear.
Is
spPowerPivot.msi installer for SharePoint 2013 is another package that has to run after the
“SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint” installation on SharePoint server via SQL Server setup?
Or spPowerPivot.msi is the same thing as “SQL Server PowerPivot
for SharePoint” from SQL Server setup?
I run
spPowerPivot.msi on my SharePoint server, but don't see the SQL Server PowerPivot Configuration manager created.
Please advise
-JeffSQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint is the SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Mode instance with the instance name POWERPIVOT. The spPowerPivot.msi installs the proxy that connects to the SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Mode instance. You run the
SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint installation on the server that you want to run the SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Mode instance whereas you run the spPowerPivot.msi installation on all of the servers in your SharePoint farm (except the database
server.) For SQL Server 2014, this is
a separate download and is not included in the SQL Server 2014 installation media.

VM - How do I install sql server 2014 developer edition using my MSDN licence
If I download it from MSDN, there is only a disk image. The .exe downloads are for the Express edition.
My advice is don't install the image with SQL Server pre-installed as it will burn through your Azure credits at eye watering speed since you are paying for the SQL Server licence. As Manesh
says once downloaded you can just double click the ISO and it will mount and open an Explorer window automatically. Only Windows 8 / 2012 onwards though IIRC.

SQL SERVER 2014 Installation error
Hi, I'm having great difficulty in installing SQL server 2014 developer edition 64- bit . When I use to run setup it says sql server boot strapper.dll is missing although it is present inside the folder and when I opened the sql setup bootstrapper.dll it
gives the error "This file doesn't have a program associated with it for performing this action". ? I've attached the snapshot of the error as well.
Needs immediate help.Hello,
Are you trying to install from a network share/location? Could you try to copy the media to a folder on the c:\ drive.
If the media is an .ISO file, please unzip it using WinRAR and install from that folder on the C:\ drive.
If the above does not help, could you try to download the media again.
The following article may be useful.

I've been searching for HOURS how to resolve this issue:
I am trying to upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 (Express Edition with advanced services) to SQL SERVER 2014 Standard edition, my first issue was to update the 2008 R2 to Service pack 2 on the first FEATURE RULE TEST, at this time on it's keep saying this:
======================================================================================
Rule Check Result
Rule "SQL Server 2008 R2 Service pack 2 or later is requered for upgrade.: failed.
This SQL Server 2008 R2 features that have been selected to be upgraded to SQL Server 2014 are not at the require service pack. To continue with this upgrade, install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or lager to the selected instance and the shared features.
=====================================================================================
This is the Configuration Report issue:
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 - System Configuration Check Report
UpgradeFeatureSpecificRules: SQL Server 2014 Setup configuration checks for rules group 'UpgradeFeatureSpecificRules'
KJRTMUpgradeBlockRule
Checks if the currently selected SQL Server 2008 R2 features to upgrade are at the supported service pack. Failed The SQL Server 2008 R2 features that have been selected to be upgraded to SQL Server 2014 are not at the
required service pack. To continue with this upgrade, install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or later to the selected instance and the shared features.
====================================================================================
I try after hours and finally did install the Upgrade Advisor and got not issues, the last choice I was to uninstall the Management Studio because in other upgrade express versions got blocked, but in this new version of SQL Server 2014 I don't see any way
out!!!
Thanks.Hi again
This is the scenario:
-I have installed the SQL SERVER 2008 R2 With Advanced services (version 10.50.1600.1), and now my guest decide to upgrade to an STARNDARD version which nowadays Microsoft is offering the 2014 version.
-As all IT Support and DBA I try to upgrade to SQL 2014 to check and see with requirements were missing or updates. The first check report only ask to upgrade to SQL SERVER 2008 R2 SP2 (version 10.51.2500.0) which I found in the optional update list and
resolved immediately with the Windows Update service.
-Finally, I realise doing the discovery report (suggested in the last post) is that Windows update only download the service pack 2 for SQL Server 2008 instead of the 2008 R2 (I downloaded manually) then the version was upgrade to 10.52.4000.0
Next time I might download the updates manually and not loosing a lot hours with Windows Update, another point very important is that when SQL Server 2008 R2 is installed, create the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 folder at all programas in the Startup menu:
with the SQL Server Installation Center, but there is not one R2, when you execute this one just show the 2008 installed features.
Now we are on 12.0.2000.8
Thanks anyway and all of you for your interest!!!
