SQL server 2014 in VS 2013 - Develop 3 different types of packages and maintain them efficiently
Hello Everyone,
I’ve been assigned a task to develop 3 different SSIS packages.
Package 1 – There will be roughly 50 CSV files, I need to read them one by one and create a new database and a table per CSV file in SQL 2014.
This will be a one-time job.
Which is the best option in SSIS package to create database and tables in SQL 2014? I assume I need use “Execute Script Task” here, although please advise.
Package 2 – This will run on daily basis. It will again read those 50 CSV files one by one and migrate their data to tables.
Also, out of 50, couple of files (the exceptional file names have to be configured somewhere as client might add some more files for it out of 50) needs to be treated in different way.
For them the tables have to be truncated first and then insert data into them.
Which is the optimal and fastest way to move such data from these files to SQL tables? Can I run the parallel job in for each loop container?
Where should I configure such “no ordinary” file names?
Package 3 – This job will run once a six months. It will basically perform a purge for the data.
This needs to be parameterized where client can set-up a cut-of-date for it and it will delete the data from all these 50 tables at SQL server.
How to allow a client to insert the cut-of-date?
What is the optimal option to read all tables of database (50 tables) and perform purge based on the cut-of-date?
Common question:
Where should I keep the path for the folder from where I need to pick the CSV files?
How should I deploy and schedule package 2 and 3?
Can anybody please advise what are the efficient/standard ways to maintain such packages?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can create a Table in your Database to store all folder path and/or other parameter values (i.e. Error
File Path, Export/Archive file folder path, email address for notification, SSIS catalog deployed folder/project name etc).

Exploring AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances in SQL Server 2014 Tecnet Labs
I like the Labs and have found them very usful. I have a problem with: Exploring AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances in SQL Server 2014. The lab starts but hangs on opening SQLONE and the Manual never loads. I have tried coming out and starting again but
get returned to the same failing session. I thought I would mention it here as the is no way to feedback a response as the appraisal only happens once the lab is completed, i.e. no apparent link on the lab site. The session ends when the HOL is reported
as not responding.Hi,

WCF-Custom Biztalk 2013 - Access to SQL Server 2014 Database
Hi,
i don't see nowhere of capability from the Biztalk adapter to access differente version of Sql server.
I want to send ou receive information with a WCF-Custom from SQL Server 2014, i'm in Biztalk 2013 (not R2 ) it's possible ?
Do you have a link or a list of version autorized to accessed by the wcf-custom Sql binging ?
Thanks a lotHi, I can suppose that the main problem for Joao is not if it works in general or not.
The real problem is that he is not sure if this configuration is officially supported by Microsoft.
If you are developing an integration project for a client you need to have this guarantee. If not, you can have an unsupported scenario, and if something fails you could have a big problem with your client.
If I were you, I would talk with the client account manager about this.

How to install a Business Contact Manager 2013 database on SQL Server 2014
When I use the BCM Database Tool 2013 to create a database on a server, it doesn't pick up on any of my SQL Server 2014 instances. So far I can only get it to pick up SQL Server 2008 R2 instances in order to install the BCM database.
Someone mentioned that it works with SQL Server 2012, so is there any way to get it work on the 2014 version? I don't want to have to install 2008 or 2012 just for the sake of BCM.event if 3355 means 3 things:
The SQL Server might be offline.
The SharePoint Foundation database access account might not have the necessary permissions to communicate with the SQL Server.
A firewall that runs on either the local server or on SQL Server might be blocking network communications.
Big question, how you trying to connect SQL windows or sql authentication? is it throwing error on Config wizard or somewhere else?
Please remember to mark your question as answered &Vote helpful,if this solves/helps your problem. ****************************************************************************************** Thanks -WS MCITP(SharePoint 2010, 2013) Blog: http://wscheema.com/blog -
SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2014
Does SharePoint 2013 supports SQL Server 2014 for Reporting Services, PowerPivot
Yes it does (or rather, SSRS 2014/PowerPivot 2014 support SharePoint 2013). They also support SharePoint 2010.

SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition
Microsoft is no longer offering version 2012 developer edition. So, is SQL Server 2014 developer edition ok to use with SQL Server 2012? Thanks.
AFAIK you can ask/purchase developer edition in local MS office.. But it is certainly OK to use SQL Server 2012 Dev Edition to manage servers from different versions.

Upgrade DTSX packages from VS 2010 with SQL Server 2008 to VS 2013 and SQL Server 2014
Hello everyone,
I’m very new to SSIS world. I’ve been assigned a task to upgrade the existing packages running in VS 2010 with SQL Server 2008 to VS 2013 and SQL Server 2014. And then submit the migration report to my client.
On very quick search at Google, I've found the following link. It seems like I just need to open the existing SSIS project in VS 2013 and follow the wizard.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc280547.aspx
Can anybody please advise, are there any other things need to be taken care while doing this up gradation process?
Please share your experience.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, <b>Ankit Shah</b> <hr> Inkey Solutions, India. <hr> Microsoft Certified Business Management Solutions Professionals <hr> http://ankit.inkeysolutions.comHello Arthur,
Thank you for the response.
I just got an access of the packages. They are of VS 2008 and not 2010.
Do you know how to upgrade VS 2008 packaged to VS 2013?
When I tried to open the solution file in VS 2013, it says "incompatible".
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition
Hi All,
I tried to buy and download the Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition for studying purposes, but it turned out that this specialized edition is not available in my region - Middle East.
The Express edition is available free of charge for all regions, but it lacks the more advanced administration & BI features I am interested in, whereas the Evaluation edition is limited to 180-day.
Please, advise how I can purchase the Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition.
Thanks in advance,
Corina. You can buy developer edition from below links
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/SQL-Server-2014-Developer-Edition/productID.298540400
and
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-SQL-Server-2014-Developer/dp/B00JKMY8KC
If anyhow there is delay in shipment you can go with SQL Server 2014 evaluation edition. It is same as Developer but can only be used for 180 days

SQL Server 2014 PowerPivot installation on SharePoint 2013
Hello:
I saw many references on the topic but one thing is still not clear.
Is
spPowerPivot.msi installer for SharePoint 2013 is another package that has to run after the
“SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint” installation on SharePoint server via SQL Server setup?
Or spPowerPivot.msi is the same thing as “SQL Server PowerPivot
for SharePoint” from SQL Server setup?
I run
spPowerPivot.msi on my SharePoint server, but don't see the SQL Server PowerPivot Configuration manager created.
Please advise
-JeffSQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint is the SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Mode instance with the instance name POWERPIVOT. The spPowerPivot.msi installs the proxy that connects to the SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Mode instance. You run the
SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint installation on the server that you want to run the SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular Mode instance whereas you run the spPowerPivot.msi installation on all of the servers in your SharePoint farm (except the database
server.) For SQL Server 2014, this is
a separate download and is not included in the SQL Server 2014 installation media.

Hello all,
after populating the Toolbox of SSMS with the "Maintenance Plan Tasks" all task are disabled. The reason is simple a bad path to the DTS modules. The path in the Toolbox points to ...\DTSTasks\... Installation has created a path of ...\DTS\Tasks\...
This is clearly a bug. But perhaps there is a workaround by changing something in the configuration. Any idea where to look for the responsible configuration file?
Regards UweHi Uwe,
Based on my research, just as you said, the path of Maintenance Tasks in the Choose Toolbox Items dialog box points to ...\DTSTasks\..., but the actual path is...\DTS\Tasks\....I can reproduce the issue in my SQL Server 2014, SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server
2008 R2 environments. It seems that this is a known issue. But the issue doesn’t affect the use of maintenance tasks, we can still drag the tasks to design the maintenance plan.
If you have concern about this issue, it is my pleasure to help you to reflect your recommendation to the proper department for their consideration. Please feel free to submit your situation on our product to the following link
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/. Your feedback is valuable for us to improve our products and increase the level of service provided.
As to the issue that all tasks are disabled in the Toolbox of "Maintenance Plan Tasks", please make sure that you have selected the tasks in the Choose Toolbox Items dialog box. Then double-click the task in Toolbox pane or drag the task to maintenance
design tab.

Error when installing SQL Server 2014 Express
I am running a Win 8.1 desktop 64bit (fully updated) with already installed SQL Server 2012 and Visual Studio 2010 and 2013 (non Express versions). I need to keep SQL Server 2012 for development purposes but also need SQL Server 2014 for a database
provided to me by others which needs this version. I found out it should be possible to run the two versions side-by-side. During installation of SQL Server 2014 Express I selected all features except 'Local Db' and used a named instanc

2014 stopped - Trying to find a solution'. Doing nothing on my part the window disappears and nothing else happens. So I uninstalled any 'Redistributable' and ran setup again. Same result though both 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

roperly installed! All features are marked as 'failed' with one and the same error 1638. Even tried just upgrading to see if that would work but also here same error.
I have not been able to find the proper solution so I am now stuck. Hopefully someone can give me the right steps to take? Ruud van der SpoelHello,
Error 1638 means another version of the product is already installed. Probably you have a 32-bit version installed but
the installation requires a 64-bit version of VC.
Try to manually install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of each VC.
Hope this helps.
