SQL Server 2K Owner
I have gotten beyond my first issue, the user sa is now selected by the Workbench as a user, BUT it is not assigned to a group. How do I get it assigned to the db_owner group? In SQL Server 2K the user is owner of the database I am trying to migrate.
SS2K Groups will be migrated to Oracle ROLEs,
GRANT db_owner TO sa;
after the migration.
I thought the Oracle Migration Workbench would do this automatically.

SQL Server 2005 Error Message - when Right Clicking a DB Properties
Hi
We are running SQL Server 2005 SP03, we have x15 databases (excluding SBO-COMMON, RSP, Coresuite), all x15 databases have Maintenance Plans setup, tasks ticked:
- Shrink Database
- Clean Up History
- Back up Database (Full)
- Maintenance Clean-up task
These Maintenance Plans have been running for over 5 months now, we have recently changed our VMware Virtual Server over to a Hosted VMware Virtual Server, now when I right click on a certain database and select "Properties" I get the following error message with SQL Server:
Property Owner is not available for Database '[Turquoise_Moon_Live]'. This property may not exist for this object, or may not be retrievable due to insufficient access rights. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Could the Maintenance Plan be preventing me to run the Properties against a relevant DB (I have tested this by restoring a DB that doe not have a Maintenance Plan and the Properties works, tested this on SBO-COMMON and it works as well)
Can anyone agree with me or let me know what else might be the issue as I have checked the Server Roles & the Users Credentials for SQL and all seems well.
Regards
Kurt WaltersHi Gordon
This solution did not work, but I needed to delete the Maintenance Plans anyway to set it for 1 month instead of 2 Months. I am thinking as we have changed Domains, were the last one was IS Domain and the new one is Hosted Domain, the security issues are probably coming from this (as I am able to access the Properties of the IS Domain SQL Server even with the Maintenance Plans running).
Any thoughts on correcting this as we have changed Domains? (I have created a user as HOSTED\example, the old one was IS\example)

O2C PIP with Microsoft SQL Server Based Siebel server
Hi,
We are trying to install AIA 2.2 with PIP for Order to Cash cycle. This integrates Siebel with Oracle for O2C cycle. We have done installation till AIA foundation pack successfully. Now when I looked at PIP installation guide it asks for Siebel database details. My Siebel database is MS SQL Server 2000. But installation guide only mentions installation through Oracle DB. Generally if there is any MS SQL server 2000 connection happening to Oracle, it would be through ODBC – JDBC Bridge. However I do not see any details of that sort in the installation guide.
Have you guys tried this kind of installation? If not then, can you please help me by raising this to internal community in Oracle?
Best Regards,
Dhaval KhamarHi there,
I use this configuration for connecting SQL Server:
In data server object
* Definition: the must important fields are the username and password
* JDBC:
- JDBC Driver: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
- JDBC URL: jdbc:sqlserver:// *<SERVER IP or NAME>* : <*PORT* (optional, if not defined it will take the default)>
Then you need to create a physical schema where you're going to define the SQL Server database name and the owner or user
* Definition:
- Database(catalog): name of the SQL Server database
- Owner (schema): the name of the owner, for example dbo
- Database(work schema): again the name of the SQL Server database; not required
- Owner(work schema): not required
On local object mask I also modify this field to add the SQL Server user, for example *%CATALOG.dbo.%OBJECT*
On remote object mask I leave the same (*%DSERVER.%CATALOG.%SCHEMA.%OBJECT*)
Hope this was useful for you
Cheers,

Hi,
I am trying to create a physical schema to connect to Microsoft SQL Server. When asked user and password for the connection to the server, what rights must the user have in order for this to work?
And when specifying the JDBC URL, what should be the hostname, the same as the server name?
Thank you,

I have a web application developed through VS 2012 which has a button on a form that when operated starts a SQL Server agent job on the server that runs an SSIS package. The website and the instance of SQL Server with the agent and SSIS package are
on the same windows 2008 r2 server. When the button is operated no exceptions are raised but the SSIS package did not execute.
When I look in the logfileviewer at the job history of the sql server agent job I see that the job failed with message...
The job failed. Unable to determine if the owner (DOMAINNAME\userid) of job runWebDevSmall has server access (reason: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'DOMAINNAME\userid'<c/> error code 0x6e. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 15404)).,00:00:00,0,0,,,,0
...even though DOMAINNAME\userid is in the logins for the sql server and has admin authorities.
Could someone show me what I need to do to get this to run? Thanks tonnes in advance for any help, RoscoeThis can happen when the network is too slow to allow a timely completion of the verification. Or the account running has no such right.
I suggest you try using the SA account for the job as it does not require to poll the AD.

Sql server agent roles and job's owner issue
Hi,
We have a tricky question about agent role and job owner. If I granted sqlagentoperatorrole to a windows account in a sql instance, the account will have permission to create a sql job, the job's owner is the account and he can edit the job. But we want
to keep all agent jobs' owner as SA. But after I (have sysadmin role) changed the job's owner to SA, the windows account won't be able to edit the job any more. but I don't want to give sysadmin role to the account, Does anybody have solution for my issue?
so recap my question,
1. all jobs owners should be SA
2. Allow some accounts without sysadmin permission can edit these jobs
3. Which kid of permission shall I grant to these accounts?
Thanks
DavidIts not secessary to have SA for all the jobs, normally we avoid using SA...
Depends if you want to have some sort of security measures in place. If not, doesn't matter much. As for the 'sa' topic, I change the name of that account or disable immediately after install. It practically eliminates that vector of attack.
If you SQLAgentOperatorRole permissions then you can do the below... this is just a agent role so this comes under MSDB....
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188283.aspx
Also if you have sql SA access with doamin account or sql account then you can play with sql server completely without any issues, no harm in this...
Agenet principals are scoped to msdb; make sure you are running the statement from msdb DB. For example:
use [msdb]
go
-- The code where @userName is declared & set
EXEC sp_addrolemember 'SQLAgentOperatorRole', @userName
go
If you still have problems let us know, and please include the error number and message in order to help us understand the nature of the fauilure.
Best practice...

Having issues with getting SQL Server Express to start services and run.
Good afternoon everyone,
I have been working on a 2012 R2 server getting ready to move databases to new hardware. I had SQL Server Express 2008 R2 running on this server with no issues. I was handed another software package that ran SQL Express 2012 and had to for compatibility
reasons. I have had multiple versions run on Server 2012 before with no issues. This time, not so lucky. When the installer from the updated package put on SQL Express 2012 it completed with errors ( error log posted at the end of post) and
would not allow me to run software. I then tried the db that I had installed on 2008 R2 and it also gave the same error as the 2012 version. IN basic terms the required services attempted to start and shut back down again. I have received
Error 1068 about database handles and error %%945. I know this db has plenty of space and the permissions were added for the Admin account to access both db's. I then uninstalled both versions and tried again, with the same errors listed when
I tried to start the services. I am thinking that a clean install would fix the issue however I am not certain what files/folders/reg entries need to be deleted or modified. I have researched all the errors I can find, however I am very
new with SQL anything so I know I am missing something. I also do not have an "E:" drive on this server (not sure why it is going there). Input would be very welcome as I am not certain where to go from here.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi HMLunger,
Did you install the SQL Server instance successfully? If not, please help to post the summary and detail logs for analysis. By default, the logs can be found in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
However, if you fail to start SQL Server Express service after successfully installing SQL Server,
you might have to change the paths of the files by running the following scripts from the command prompt. For more details, please review this similar
thread.
NET START MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS /f /T3608
SQLCMD -S .\SQLEXPRESS
ALTER DATABASE model MODIFY FILE (NAME = logical_name , FILENAME = 'new_path\os_file_name');
ALTER DATABASE model MODIFY FILE (NAME = logical_name , FILENAME = 'new_path\os_file_name');
go
exit;
ALTER DATABASE msdb MODIFY FILE (NAME = logical_name , FILENAME = 'new_path\os_file_name');
ALTER DATABASE msdb MODIFY FILE (NAME = logical_name , FILENAME = 'new_path\os_file_name');
NET STOP MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS
In addition, you can follow the steps in this KB article to uninstall SQL Server.
Thanks,

Hi,
we have a dbconnect source system with sql server.
The installation is correct and we have the list of tables and views.
We can get a list of table/view content too.
But, when we make an infopackage request there is no idoc generated and the status color of the request get yellow.
Tips:
- We have in SQL the user with permissions to do selects and create views.
- The list of tables/views in source system not extract this user owner. Only extracts the sa owner.
- We connect with our user, not with sa.
Any one have an idea
Tanks
XavoHi,
This is some sort of privileges problem . The user which is used in the Source system definition ,Should have Atleast select statement privileges on the table and view. If you are using view you can change the owner of this view to user , which is used in the Source system definition .
With rgds,

GO: "I'm actually thinking that nobody can defaut you Mr.X"
Philippe Levesque: "Good article ! I would add that changing the lease time to be shorted could help too."
JM: "A very good article, however you might consider adding this content as a section in your article about expired IP addresses in DHCP"

How can I see the relationship of tables in Microsoft SQL Server?
How can I see the relationships of the tables? Exactly like what we see in Access. In Access if we select Database tool and then relationships, we can see how the tables are linked to each other. How can I find this option in SQL Server Management Studio?
Thanks,
GGGGGNNNNN
GGGGGNNNNNThanks,
I could verify what you explained here. how can I overcome this message and resolve it when my database owner is not there:
Message while starting with database diagrams of a attached/restored database
If you have just attached/restored a database from another SQL Server instance. While accessing its database diagrams folder, you may get the following message
It is an informational message and would prevent you from working on database diagrams. The message says that your database has no valid owner currently. Reason for this error is that database owner on a previous SQL Server instance does not exist here.
To overcome this error just add the valid database owner through T-SQL or SSMS. Also verify the compatibility level of your database is correct for your SQL Server instance.
I appreciate your help.

Error in PREPARE with MS-SQL Server
I'm doing a upgrade to ECC 6.0 SR2. I'm following the instructions of Upgrade Guide SAP ECC 6.0
SR2.
My Operating System is Windows 2003 Server, database is MS-SQL Server and SAP system source is R3
4.7 Ext 200 non-Unicode
I updated SAPup and included the correction fix in the upgrade root directory (\usr\sap\put\).
The environment variables for all users are:
dbms_type=MSS
mssql_dbname=R37
mssql_schema=r37
mssql_server=<myServer>
The Default Database for users <Server>/R37adm and r37 is R37. The default schema for both users is
r37. Both users are owners of the database.
The default profile have the following parameters (the last line is a blank):
SAPSYSTEMNAME = R37
SAPDBHOST = <myServer>
rdisp/mshost = <myServer>
rdisp/accept_remote_trace_level = 0
rdisp/sna_gateway = <myServer>
rdisp/sna_gw_service = sapgw00
rdisp/bufrefmode = sendoff,exeauto
ms/server_port_0 = PROT=HTTP, PORT=8100
dbms/type = mss
dbs/mss/server = <myServer>
dbs/mss/schema = r37
dbs/mss/dbname = R37
I'm running the PREPARE and shows an error when running the script MSSCONCHECK.SQL.
The error in MSSCONCHECK.LOG is:
Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Server <myServer>, Line 2

Any idea?Hi Ganesh Gambhir,
In SE16-SVERS I have "620".
If I execute in command-line:
osql -E -S <myserver> -Q "select VERSION from R37.r37.SVERS" -n
It's shown:
VERSION
620
(1 row affected)
Any other combination shows the same error:
Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Server <myServer>, Line 2
Invalid object name 'SVERS'.
I cann't continue with the PREPARE, after this error is closed.
Thanks for your reply. Any other idea? -
SSIS Package Fails when Scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job
I have an SSIS package that runs without any problems when executed through BIDS.
However, when I schedule the SSIS as an Agent job, it fails completely or part way through. When it partially runs, the part that it is failing on is a Script Task that moves the source data file to an archive folder (on the same server).
I have tried using my domain account as the owner of the job, then the job fails straight off and I get an error:
Unable to determine if the owner (Domain\MyID) of job JobName has server access (reason: Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'Domain\MyID'
If I change the owner to the 'sa' account , then the job partially runs, but then fails because 'sa' is a SQL account and does not have access to the filesystem.
I have managed to get it to work by using the SQL2008_Local account and granting modify permissions to the affected folders.
My question is - what is the advised way of doing this?
Thanks
GaryHi Garyv.King,
When you see a SSIS package fails running in a SQL Agent job, you need to first consider the following conditions:
1. The user account that is used to run the package under SQL Server Agent differs from the original package author.
2. The user account does not have the required permissions to make connections or to access resources outside the SSIS package.
For more detailed information about the issue, please following this KB article:
An SSIS package does not run when you call the SSIS package from a SQL Server Agent job step
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918760
You can check SQL Server Agent’s activity logs, Windows Event logs and SSIS logs to get more clues. Also the tool Process Monitor is helpful to track the cause of registry or file access related issues.
The following 4 issues are common encountered in the SSIS forum.
1. The package's Protection Level is set to EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey but your SQL Server Agent service account is different from the SSIS package creator.
2. Data source connection issue.
3. File or registry access permission issue.
4. No 64-bit driver issue.
For more information about it, please see:
How do I troubleshoot SSIS packages failed execution in a SQL Agent job:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/e13c137c-1535-4475-8c2f-c7e6e7d125fc

Eileen
