SQL Server Agent(Agent XPs disabled)

I've an issue with SQL Server Agent which is disabled and I'm trying to enable but it won't work.
I've used following steps. Can someone guide me? Thank you reading and helping me.

SQL Server 2005 agent job runs a SSIS package ( Analysis Services Processing Task) fails

SQL Server 2005 standard edition.
I have a SSIS package which has a Analysis Services Processing Task. I have tested the package in BIDS and it runs ok. But when I created a agent job and run it from the job it reports error:
Code: 0xC0012024 Source: Analysis Services Processing Task Description: The task "Analysis Services Processing Task" cannot run on this edition of Integration Services.
It requires a higher level edition.
This is the result of select @@version

Running SSIS 2005 in SQL Server Job Agent 2012

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to create a job in SQL 2012 that calls an SSIS 2005 package, however i'm getting some issue. I researched the issue a bit and got this link . The given link suggested to use dtexec as SQL 2012 try to convert it in the memory.
I used the dtexec but I'm still getting an issue.

I created 2 jobs. the first job calls a simple package that execute a single SQL. It ran
successfully when I execute the said job using this command
DTEXEC /FILE "\"C:\TFS\WDSHE SSIS Packages from DTS\GFK_Test_package.dtsx\"" /DECRYPT stud10 /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
2nd Job, calls a complex package which contains several execute process tasks. this job fails with the error mentioned at the top.
Now, I modified the simple package in the first job and add an Execute Process Task.
I'm started to get an issue

It looks like you have many data in JOB VIEW history. You may PURGE the jobhistory.
You can keep the history info for last few months and purge the old data using

Grant Agent Job Reader/Operator permission in SQL SERVER 2000

Hello Experts
Today I got a request to grant sql server agent job read access. The server is SQL 2000. It was totally new for me. I googled but couldn't find anything useful. I feel pretty uncomfortable with SQL 2000. Have never worked before. Please help.

If you grant a user read access to SQL Server 2000 agent jobs by adding the user to TargetServersRole role in msdb, please note that TargetServerRole is available from SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3. Prior to SQL Server 2000 SP3 the user must be added to the
sysadmin group in order to view the jobs that are owned by sysadmin group.
Besides, if you need to grant a user permission to create/modify/delete jobs in SQL Server 2000, then the user must be added as a member of the sysadmin role.

SQL Server Agent - Operators

When I tried to configure an operator in SQL server job agent then i can't add more than 100 characters in "email name" field.
Any thoughts??

No. I want to add multiple email addresses. but issue is when total length of characters of all email addresses reaches to 100, it cut down additional characters.
Example: [email protected];[email protected];........; [email protected]
now assume we have total 102 characters, SQL will cut down down the last two characters and will make my last email address as "[email protected]"

SQL Server operator email addresses are limited to 100 characters. The behavior is by design.
To work around this issue, you can create a group email in Exchange server, add all the emails you want into the group, then use the group email address when configuring the operator.

SQL server Agent Jobs High Avaialability - Crash on server 1 , automatically resumes from Secondary server

1)We have 2 physical Servers, where SSIS is installed (not clustered) . If machine crashes where Jobs running on server 1, then i want to automatically resumes the job from secondary server sql server job agent ?
2)Can i AUTOMATICALLY resume the job from secondary ssis server on crash of my primary ssis server ?
3)Can it resumes from the same point or we have to restart from begining ?

The functionality which you are looking for is not available in sql server as a standout feature.
You need to do this programattically.
You need to put savepoints in your ssis package/jobs where it logs the steps that it has completed and the steps that it has started. Any time the job is restarted it first has to check the logging table and see where it has reached and restart from the
step where it left off. The packages/jobs should have the ability to do so.
You can also set another job, which will always only run on the sql agent start, which particularly chceks for all jobs which would have stopped/cancelled and see if it has completed or has stopped in between. This will make sure that if sql fails over
or there is a restart of the agent all the jobs which were cancelled would be restarted.

This seems to be one of the solutions but as already mentioned by others you have to build this logic - you won't get this functionality out of the box.

Want to change the SQL Server Agent Job History Text Files Location

We have SQL Server 2014 installed on a couple servers, but they were not consistent on directory paths during the installs. I am trying to get the servers to all match.
On one server, SQL Server the Agent Log and Job History files were being written to [H:\Data Root Directory\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log].
I want to change that to [H:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log] to match the other server.
I have ALREADY gone into SSMS - [SQL Server Agent] - [Properties] and changed the "Error Log " "Fle Name" to [H:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log\SQLAGENT.OUT]. And that is working great.
In [SQL Server Configuration Manager] - [SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)] - [Properties] - Startup Parameters entries have been changed to the new path (-d, -e, and -l), and under [Advanced] both Data Path and Dump Directory are pointing to the new path.
In [SQL Server Configuration Manager] - [SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)] - [Properties] - [Advanced] Dump Directory is pointing to the new path.
However, the job's History text files are still being written to the old path.
There is no setting in the Jobs or the Maintenance Plans that controls the history file location.
I have searched the registry and changed three settings from the old path to the new path. The registry does NOT contain any more references to the old path.
I rebooted the server, but when the jobs run their history text files are still be written to the old path.
Does anybody have any ideas?? Thanks

I checked the [Job] - [Step] - [Advanced ] - "Output File", and the field is blank.
I then reviewed all the tabs and left menu items in the Job...I cannot find any where the references the old path.
I then went to the Maintenance Plan and checked every thing there. Still cannot find what is referencing this old path.
SQL Server is also still writing xel files to this old path...if that offers any clues.
The text file being generated is the recap of the Job run. Starts with this:
Microsoft(R) Server Maintenance Utility (Unicode) Version 12.0.2430
Report was generated on "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx".

SQL Server interfaces through Schduler Agent

I have a SQL server source and 1 oracle source.For running the SQL server through agent , I have updated the odiparams.sh file as

I'm able to execute the SQL server interfaces through this using the listener agent.
I start the agent using
./agent.sh -port=20911
ANd the agent starts.
However when I try to start the scheduler agent using
./agentscheduler.sh -name="Test_Agent" -port=20911
it gives me error
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Login failed for user odimaster
Now if i remove the sql related things from the odiparams i.e remove these statements
ODI_SECU_DRIVER=com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
ODI_SECU_URL=jdbc:sqlserver://<hostno>:1433
After removing these statements,the scheduler agent works fine.
I want to start the scheduler agent for SQL SERVER interfaces as well.Please let me know if you have any pointers for the same.

Hi ,
ODI_SECU_DRIVER and ODI_SECU_URL is related to ODI master repository .
You can have single master repository only which in turn can have multiple work repository .
So odiparams.sh file can have only 1 entry for ODI_SECU_DRIVER and ODI_SECU_URL.
You define your source and target data server information in Topology which will be stored in ODI repository .
You don't have to specify the data server information in odiparams.sh .
Regarding "whereas with these statements in odiparams.sh,Im able to execute the SQL Server interfaces using an agent"
agent will not look into odiparams.sh file for repository parameters .. that is why it is working .
But agentscheduler looks for repository parameters in odiparams.sh .. and your odiparams.sh file is not correct .. that is why it is failing .

Could not connect to SQL Server 2012 Remotely

I have a situation as follows:
The Server
SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition installed on Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition
Active Directory is installed on the same server as well
Remote Access Role added and configured to connect VPN
DNS Role added
Windows Firewall is disabled
The Server is connected to the internet
SQL Server Service & SQL Browser both are running under domain accounts
SQL Server allows remote connections
The Router
The router that connects the server to the Internet is configured to:
Enable VPN Tunnels Protocols (PPTP, L2TP and IPSec)
Forwarding > Virtual Servers (all requests on TCP and UDP on all ports to the server local IP)
The Client
PC running Windows 7 SP1 with SQL Server 2012 Express
Joined AD on the server
Connected to the internet
VPN Connected to the Server
Can Remote Desktop the Server
Can ping the server host name
Can nslookup the server host name
The Problem
If Both the Server and the Client are connected in the same Local Area Network, Client can connect to the SQL Serve
Once the Client is placed in different location connected to the Interent, VPN connected as described above, I could not connect to the Server using:
Windows Authentication Domain Users or
SQL Server users
and the error message is:
Cannot connect to SERVER\SQLINSTANCE.

Help! SQL server database log file increasing enormously

I have 5 SSIS jobs running in sql server job agent and some of them are pulling transactional data into our database over the interval of 4 hours frequently. The problem is log file of our database is growing rapidly which means in a day, it eats up 160GB of
disk space. Since our requirement dont need In-point recovery, so I set the recovery model to SIMPLE, eventhough I set it to SIMPLE, the log
data consumes more than 160GB in a day. Because of disk full, the scheduled jobs getting failed often.Temporarily I am doing DETACH approach
to cleanup the log.
FYI: All the SSIS packages in the job is using Transaction on
some tasks. for eg. Sequence Cointainer
I want a permanent solution to keep log file in a particular memory limit and as I said earlier I dont want my log data for future In-Point recovery, so no need to take log backup at all.
And one more problem is that in our database,the transactional table has 10 million records in it and some master tables have over 1000 records on them but our mdf file
size is about 50 GB now.I dont believe that this 10 million records should make it to 50GB memory consumption.Whats the problem here?

For SSIS part of question it would be better if you ask in SSIS forum although noting is going to change about logging behavior. You can increase some space on log file and also should batch your transactions as already suggested
Regarding memory question about SQL Server, once it utilizes memory is not going to release unless there is windows OS faces memory pressure and SQLOS asks SQL Server to trim down its memory consumption. So again if you have set max server memory to some
where near 50 SQL Server will utilize that much memory eventually. So what you are seeing is totally normal. Remember its costtly task for SQL Server to release and take memory so it avoids it by caching as much as possible plus it caches more so as to avoid
physical reads which are costly
When log file is getting full what does below transaction return
select log_reuse_wait_desc from sys.databases where name='db_name'
Can you manually introduce chekpoint in ETL query. Try this it might help you

I am a new member for OTN. I am facing a problem while connecting msassess database with oracle 9.2.0 with the help of hetrogeneous connectivity feature.
I have done all the needful as suggested by many members in this forum. but finally when accessing a assess table with the help of the link , get the error "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name "
I have checked all relevant entries in sqlnet.ora,hssid.ora,tnsnames.ora and listener.ora.. also created ODBC dsn. but couldn't resolve my problem.
listener is regestering the service. but when tried tnsping . this utility shows following message and keeps on trying to contact: "

Error while converting schema from oracle to SQL server

Hello,
I am getting following error while converting schema from oracle to SQL server using SSMA.
I get Errors 1-3 while migrating procedures and error 4 while migrating a table.
1- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'SYSDATE' is not supported.
2- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'to_date(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported.
3- O2SS0050: Conversion of identifier 'regexp_replace(VARCHAR2, CHAR)' is not supported.
4- O2SS0486: <Primary key name> constraint is disabled in Oracle and cannot be converted because SQL Server does not support disabling of primary or unique constraint.
Please suggest.

So there is no statement which is using to_date(VARCHAR2,
CHAR) and regexp_replace(VARCHAR2, CHAR) in as such. 'MON-YYYY' and '[^,]'
are CHAR values hence SSMA is unable to convert it from varchar2 to char.
Regarding SYSDATE issue, you mean to put below code in target(SQL) side in SSMA ?
dDate date := sysdate;

Accessing SQL Server Express on Win 8 Single language pack machine

Hi
I have written a small windows app which is installed on multiple windows laptops in our house among our family members.
The app requires a data base which is an SQL express 2012 Edition. We need to install this on our new DELL PC with Win 8 SIngle language Pack OS.
My Query is I am not able to access the Database from our laptops. Looking for a solution.

First,please use Ping command to check the network connectivity.
For the WIndows 8 PC,please check the follow service to ensure this service is start.
SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)
Also,temporarily disable firewall and other security software to check if that helps
If the issue still persists,please contact the app support or
SQL SERVER forum for help.
