SQl Server - cant compare with values in table field have nchar as datatype

Hello all!
I am using jtds driver to connect with SQL server. My problem is i am saving arabic text into the SQL Server. The fields which contains arabic text have the datatype nchar. I can insert the values by simply placing N before the actual arabic text which i am reading from a file.
I mean insert into [table] values(N'some arabic text') works fine.
But when i try to select the values from the table and want to pass some paramerts (in arabic text) in where clause it doesnt return me anything.
e.g select * from [table] where [column(nchar type)] = N'arabic text(read from file)' return nothing. Result set is always empty.
Queryis fine as i printed the query in seperate file and run it on Query analyzer which gives me the right results.
Any suggestions?? Please i am dying conditions tell me any solutions immediately
Regards,
Alam sher

String url = "............";
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put("charset","cp1256");
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,props);now this way if i get the resultset it would return me the expected resultset:)
To compare an arabic word against the values in result set one also has to convert it into cp1256 encoding line this.
new String([arabic word].getBytes(), "cp1256");
The prolem was not to print the arabic words on console basically. No doubt on console it would print ???? as it doesnot support this encoding. Originial issu was comparing a string containig the arabic text with the values returned by the result set.
This was the solution i could figure out and its working.
Thanks anyways.

Alam Sher

  • SQL Server Data Compare doesn't retrieve table list

    I'm trying to do a data compare in Visual Studio 2013.  I have chosen my source and targets and successfully tested the connection to each of them in the connections dialog.
    When I choose next, there's a few seconds delay as though the compare tool is checking with the source and target and then it shows a dialog with what to compare.  There is a checkbox next to Tables and next to Views.  Those are the only two options
    shown.
    What should be in this dialog, left of Tables and Views, is an arrow to expand them and show the list of tables and views in the source database.  The arrow is missing and I cannot expand any list of tables or views.  There's just nothing shown
    to compare.
    When I click Next again, the compare appears to run but when complete it reports that zero tables or views were compared - under the circumstances this is as expected because the previous dialog did not allow me to check any tables to compare.
    Why am I not getting the arrow to expand the list of tables?  What's wrong with Data Compare?
    Thanks,
    Dale

    Hi Dale,
    >>In your image you show a primary key value in comparison key but my tables did not have a primary key assigned
    >>Is the comparison key requirement by design?
    I repro it, I get the same issue as yours, if no key, we couldn't compare the tables.
    Like the document here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn266029%28v=vs.103%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa833428(v=vs.100).aspx
    Requirements
    When you compare data in a table or view, the table or view in the source database must share several attributes with a table or view in the target database. Tables and views that do not meet the following criteria are not compared and do not appear
    on the second page of the      New Data Comparison   wizard:
    Tables must have matching column names that have compatible data types.
    Names of tables, views, and owners are case-sensitive.
    Tables must have the same primary key, unique index, or unique constraint.
    Views must have the same unique, clustered index.
    You can compare a table with a view only if they have the same name.
    Each object has a key or an index that determines the other objects to which it corresponds. However, each table or view can have more than one primary key, unique index, or unique constraint. Therefore, you might want to specify which key, index,
    or constraint to use.
    As my understanding, it would have the specific requirements.

  • SQL Server 2012 Database with FileStream enabled tables

    Hi,
    I have some questions concerning the SQL Server 2012 FileStream feature.
    In a database combining both Filestream connected tables and none filestream connected tables. It is obviously possible to tell the root path to a filestream FILEGROUP. It's also possible to create database primary data file (.mdf) and several
    optional secondary data files (.ndf), and multiple log files.
    If I have two filestream connected tables, which each in turn have a couple of other referenced tables (none filestream connected). Is it possible to put the filestream filegroup1 (eg. the filestream connected table1) and its referenced none filestream connected
    tables, their data, indexes etc., on the same physical data file? And the other filestream connected table and its referenced tables to another physical file (.ndf)? If this is possible and recommended, how do I declare such an create database statement?
    For ex. when having tables for both none archived state, archived state, in the same database. Or is the best solution to split the two (and its referenced tables) in separate databases?
    SWEDEV

    Hello,
    File groups a just contains for the objects, you e.g. can split one table over several file Groups/secondarie files using partitioning. And a filestream is also just a table. You can reference all table Independent of file Groups / file stream.

  • MS SQL Server 2014: Error inserting into Temp table with index and identity field

    In this thread, I mentioned a problem with SQL Server 2014:
    SQL Server 2014: Bug with IDENTITY INSERT ON
    The question was answered, it is a bug. To keep you informed on this issue, I open this discussion.
    Problem:
    The code below works perfectly fine on MS SQL Server 2008 R2 and MS SQL Server 2012, but gives an error every second time the proc is executed on MS SQL Server 2014. If I do not define any index on the temp table, the problem disappears. Defining the index
    after the insert, does not help.
    SET NOCOUNT ON
    GO
    IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM sys.procedures WHERE name = 'usp_Test') DROP PROC dbo.usp_Test;
    GO

    EXEC dbo.usp_Test;
    PRINT '';
    PRINT 'Second execution of the proc, the insert fails.';
    PRINT 'Removing the index #IDX_Dest causes the error to disappear.';

    I remember few issues with scan2ident function, I am not sure if they have fixed it however it appears that this is intoduced to SQL 2014 and we need help from MS to get this resolved as it needs code analysis.
    It is not getting simulated for other versions of SQL apart from SQL 2014.
    Also to add, interestingly, the value of rax is not visibly changed and it was successfully passed on to rcx, which has a valid value, so something should have changed the value of rax inside call to function using call qword ptr [r10+50h], and looking at this
    it appears that it might be a list of functions and we are going at particular offset [50h]. So, bottom line is that the call to function qword ptr [r10+50h], should be changing something in rax, and debugging/analyzing this code might give us some more idea.

  • Can I recover a damaged SQL Server 2008 database with the undamaged .mdb and .ldf files?

    Their original SQL Server was 2008, with SP unknown, but installed on D: and C: drives.  The power spike corrupted their O/S on the C:
    drive and someone reinstalled both the O/S and the SQL Server, which is now SQL 2008, SP4.  They have intact files for all system databases, both .mdb and .ldf.  Is there some way they can reconnect with the user databases using the intact copies
    of the previous system databases? I have heard that if the SQL Server is stopped, previous Master and Msdb .mdb and .ldf files moved into place and the server restarted, that any previous user database .mdb and .ldf files can be accessed by the SQL server.
    Is this the case, or are there details missing?

    Hello! try this steps
     1 Open your SQL Server Management Studio console. This application shortcut is available in the SQL Server directory in the Windows Start button.
    2  Enter the system administrator user name and password. SQL Server's administrator user name is "sa." This account is required for privileges to restore the database. If your restoring on a host provider server, use the administrator user name
    and password they supplied for your account.
     3 Right-click your database name and select "Attach." In the new window that opens, click the "Add" button to open a dialog box.
     4 Select your MDF file and press the "Ok" button. It may take several minutes to restore the database if it is a large file. Once the process is finished, browse your tables to verify the data. The database is now restored.

  • Unable to install SQL Server 2012 along with BIDS & VS 2012 on Windows 7

    Unable to install SQL Server 2012 along with BIDS & VS 2012 on Windows 7 professional.
    I get the below error
    Could not find vsjitdebugger.exe
    Blogs say anti-virus is stopping but I dont have one on the system.
    Note: I had used SQL 2008 on the system previously and has a refresh i have deleted all the software to speed up the system.
    Now i could not install both the software.
    Can I get some help regarding this?

    Hi Nandu,
    As your description, you come across an error(vsjitdebugger.exe cannot be found). Please confirm if the error occurs during the installation of SQL Server 2012.  If so, please help post SQL Server setup logs. By default, SQL Server setup log file locates
    in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
    Base on my research, this error could be caused by that the previous uninstallation is improper and vsjitdebugger.exe file could be mistakenly deleted.
    To troubleshoot the issue, you could start your computer into Safe Mode and fix your problem with one of the following methods. For more information, please refer to the article:
    http://www.fixerrorkit.com/fix-error/fix-vsjitdebugger.exe-error.html.
    1. You could execute the sfc /scannow command following steps below.
    a. Press "Windows+R", type in cmd and then right click "Run as administrator"
    b. Type in sfc /scannow (There's a space between sfc and /scannow) into the dialog and hit Enter key and click ok.
    c. Wait until the System File Checker finishes the check.
    2. You could use a Windows repair installation, also known as a Startup Repair to repair your Windows system files.
    3. You could install the latest Windows updates to fix vsjitdebugger.exe error. Microsoft often releases new service packs and system patches to replace or update some DLL files of Windows system.
    4. You could use third-party tool such as Automatic Error Fix Tool to fix your vsjitdebugger.exe error. However, Microsoft cannot make any representations regarding the quality, safety, or suitability of any third-party software or information found there.
    In addition, if you are unable to install  Visual Studio, I suggest you post your question in Visual Studio Setup and Installation forum at
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?forum=vssetup  . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.

  • SQL Server Express compatibility with Windows 8.1 - Which version(s) are compatible?

    We have purchased a new computer that has Win 8.1 Pro. We are migrating an application from a Win 7 Pro machine we are currently successfully using (the vendor migrates it for us) and they have said that the application will require the installation of SQL
    Server 2008 Express (which we do have on our Win 7 machine).
    In looking at the requirements for SQL Server 2008 Express (on the download page for it), it does not mention it being compatible with Win 8.1
    In addition, Installation Instructions  says that it requires:
     Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
     Windows Installer 4.5.
     Windows PowerShell 1.0
    I see that 3.5 is already listed as a program feature of Win8.1 and I've enabled it. Do I need to install SP1? I downloaded it, and launched it, and nothing happened.
    I also looked at the Windows Installer 4.5 download page, and it's not clear if that is compatible with 8.1. Do I need to download and install it?
    Power Shell 2.0 is already installed. I assume that will be backwards compatible with PowerShell 1.0; is that correct?
    I saw another question about SQL Server Express Compatibility with Win 8.1 (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/038ec00e-4fc1-41ba-9fdc-21c022aad67e/action?threadDisplayName=sql-server-express-compatibility-with-windows-81) and the response
    said that SQL Server Express 2012 will work, but the link contained in the answer led to a page for SQL Server Express 2014.
    My vendor has told me that SQL SERver Express 2012 will be backwards compatible with their product. But they said that I would first have to install 2008 first. Is that correct for Win 8.1?
    So, the ultimate questions are:
    1. What is the link for Sql Server 2012 Express for Win 8.1?
    2. Will the SQL Server 2012 Express download require prior install of the 2008 version
    3. What other component requirements are required for SQL Server 2012 Express, and how can I determine if they have already been installed. (This is a brand new computer with a clean Win8.1 Install).
    4. Finally, can we use the 2014 version of SQL Server Express for Win 8.1? If so, questions 1, 2 and 3 apply, too.
    Thanks for your help on this!! HIGH ANXIETY.

  • How to Connect SQL Server 7.0 with JSP ?

    Recently, I just installed SQL Server 7.0 with the advice from my boss. But, I have encountered a problem as I am not familiar with the SQL Server's connectivity with the JSP and JDBC. Previously, I was using MySQL to connect and it works fine.
    Anybody can give me any idea or hints ? Thank you a lot.

    You connect the same way you did for the mySQL database.
    The only thing that need to change is the Driver and Connection string.

  • Implementing SQL Server Reporting Services with a Java EE Application

    Hi All,
    I need to find some tutorial on
    "Implementing SQL Server Reporting Services with a Java EE Application"
    for my j2EE application.
    Until now i have searched a lot of sites but have not any thing related to this topic.
    I am using apache axis along with SQL Server Report Manager for creating the sql server reports.
    I have done upto :
    Creating the webservice with the help of report manager.
    Now i want to connect it through my j2EE application and want to retrieve some data from that web service.
    I have got stuck on the following BOLD lines in my code .
    code:
    public CatalogItem[] getData(String res, String searchStr) throws RemoteException     {
                  ReportingService2005Soap port = null;
                  ReportingService2005Locator loc = new ReportingService2005Locator();
                  // Retrieve a port from the service locator
                  try {
                       port = loc.getReportingService2005Soap(new java.net.URL(res));
                  } catch (MalformedURLException e) {
                       // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                       e.printStackTrace();
                  } catch (ServiceException e) {

                       e.printStackTrace();
                  org.apache.axis.client.Stub stub = (org.apache.axis.client.Stub) port;
                  stub.setUsername("localhost\\Administrator");
                  stub.setPassword("servWIN@2007");
                  // Retrieve a port from the service locator
                  SearchCondition condition = new SearchCondition();
                  condition.setCondition(ConditionEnum.Contains);
                  condition.setName("Name");
                  if (searchStr != null)
                  condition.setValue(searchStr);
                  else
                  condition.setValue("");
        //           Create an array of SearchConditions which will contain our single search condition
                  SearchCondition[] conditions;
                  conditions = new SearchCondition[1];
                  conditions[0] = condition;
        //           Call the Web service with the appropriate CatalogItem[] returnedItems;
                  CatalogItem[] returnedItems = null;
                  port.findItems("foldername",BooleanOperatorEnum.Or, conditions);
                  return returnedItems;
             }i.e. while executing the findItems() method i got the following exception :
    System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The item '/reportingservices' cannot be found. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ItemNotFoundException: The item '/reportingservices' cannot be found.
    at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.RSService.FindItems(String folder, String operation, SearchCondition[] properties)

    Any any body has any idea please help me.
    I need it urgently.
    Regards.

    The above example is mentioned in msdn virtual lab that teaches how to connect to reporting services from a j2ee application.
    I have done the same thing .. but i am not able to render the report programmatically .. if anybody knows pls let me know the solution.

  • Is DTS supported in SQL server 2008 R2 with Compatibility level 100?

    We have a DTS package which executes one stored procedure.
    We have recently switched SQL server compatibility level from 80 to 100.
    On Compatibility level 80 it was working fine.
    When i switched the level to 100, and executes DTS it shows successfully executed but stored procedure doenot really executed.
    When i execute stored procedure in query analyzer it executed successfully and results were as expected.
    Please let me know Is DTS supported in SQL server 2008 R2 with Compatibility level 100?

    We have just implemented DTS packages on SQL2008R2 using the Backward Compatibility Tools (serarch for SQLServer2005_BC.msi)
    You need the files:
    SQLServer2005_BC.msi or SQLServer2005_BC_x64.msi
    and SQLServer2005_DTS.msi
    After you install these, perform the following -
    1) To integrate DTS Designer with SSMS:
    Copy the files SEMSFC.DLL, SQLGUI.DLL, and SQLSVC.DLL
    from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn
    to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE
    Copy the files SEMSFC.RLL, SQLGUI.RLL, and SQLSVC.RLL
    from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\Resources\1033
    to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\Resources\1033
    2) To integrate DTS Designer with BIDS:
    Copy the files SEMSFC.DLL, SQLGUI.DLL, and SQLSVC.DLL
    from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn
    to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE
    Copy the files SEMSFC.RLL, SQLGUI.RLL, and SQLSVC.RLL
    from %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\Resources\1033
    to %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\Resources\1033

  • How does one install a express sql server to run with Visual Web Developer 2008?

    I successfully installed .NET framework v 3.5 and VWD 2008 on a new Vista laptop. When I want to add a Sql Server database to a website, errors tell me to install SS 2005 Express. MSDN SS 2005 Express download tells me I MUST  first install .NET framework v 2.0 before SS 2005. When I try to install framework v 2.0, I'm sent to v. 3.5 and no way to download SS 2005.

  • Using SQL Server 2012 Express with Bitocker

    Hello,
    I'm currently working on getting our SQL Server Express database working with BitLocker but I am coming across a few problems. Here is my scenario:
    The OS is partitioned into two volumes (C and D).
    The C volume contains the OS and Software, while the D volume is primarily used for the database files (logs, back, and mdf).
    The D volume is encrypted using BitLocker
    The database connects using the SA account (SQL Server Authentication)
    From what I understand, BitLocker must be enabled with the same account that the SQL Server is running on. So what I have done is change the SQL Server service account to the user account (lets say its called User) via SQL Configuration Manager. While staying
    logged into User account, I then enable BitLocker via Control Panel -> System and Security -> BitLocker Drive Encryption. I then reboot and then while the software is trying to connect to the database I get the following  exception:
    'login failed for user sa'.
    Is there anything I need to do to get this working? Thanks for the help.

    Hi moncadad,
    When you turn off BitLocker, does the database also show “Recovery Pending”? If so, the simplest cause for “Recovery Pending” might be that a disk spin-up was slow, or a disk became full. Please read this
    blog to fix the issue, then check if you can successfully connect to the database after you turn on BitLocker.
    However, if you are not able to view the database contents only after you turn on BitLocker, I suspect that there are some issues about configuring BitLocker. As far as I know, Bitlocker must be performed by a member of Local Admins Group, please make sure
    that your account is a member of Local Admins Group on your computer.
    Also I would like to recommend you post the question in the
    Microsoft Bitlocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) forum to get better support. For more details about configuring SQL Server with Bitlocker, please review the following similar articles.
    Using SQL Server 2012 Standard with Bitlocker
    How can I retrieve my BitLocker recovery key from MBAM in Windows PE
