SQL Server Connection using SSL

I am currently using an encrypted connection to a SQL Server database. I am able to do this by  appending "encrypt=true" to my connection string and using a .pem file that I am able to apply using the Microsoft management console.

Is there another way to dynamically import a security certificate or set it using the LabView Db connectivity toolkit?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Almost everything you can do in the MMC plugins can also be done from the command line in Windows.  You just need to find the proper set of commands, and use the System Exec VI to implement your solution.

  • SQL Server connections using SSPI (Windows Authentication)

v1.1 now has the ability to connect to third party databases. I have found a small bug with connecting to SQL Server though. Here are the steps to reproduce -
    1. Download the jTDS JDBC Driver driver
    2. Extract jtds-1.2.jar from the zip file to sqldeveloper\jdbc\
    3. Extract Sso\ntlmauth.dll from the zip file to C:\Windows\System32\
    4. In SQL Developer, go to Tools > Preferences > Database > Third Party JDBC Drivers, and click Add Entry...
    5. Select sqldeveloper\jdbc\jtds-1.2.jar
    6. Click OK
    7. Right click on the Connections node and select New Connection...
    8. Set the following values -
    * Connection Name: SERVER_NAME
    * Username: LEAVE BLANK (to use Windows Authentication)
    * Password: LEAVE BLANK (to use Windows Authentication)
    * Save Password: TICKED
    * SQLServer > Hostname: SERVER_NAME
    9. Click Test. You get a "Success" message.
    10. However when you click Connect, it refuses to let you continue without providing a Username/Password. It should allow blank username/password because I have explicitly ticked "Save Password", and a blank username/password combination indicates that I wish to use SSPI (Windows Authentication)

Windows authentication is not supported in this release.

  • Unix: SQL Server Connection with ODBC (CRsqls24.so)

    Hi,
I almost find no information how to set up a SQL Server connection using ODBC on a unix platform.
This is what I get when I try to refresh my crystal report on my BO Server (4.1):
"The viewer could not process an event. Error in file XXX.rpt:

.) is the port number really separated from the server by comma? (http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir4/en/xi4sp10_data_acs_en.pdf)
.) where is the right place to speficy the SQL Server isntance name (SQLInstanceA in this case)? I didn't find any information about that?

First off, let me say that in the past (pre v9) when I've tried to use Windows logins with datasources, it never worked.  But that doesn't mean that they finally got it working, just that I stopped trying.
What I was referring to in my post is that once you have CF installed, you need to go to the Windows Services screen, open each of the CF processes, click on the LOGIN tab, and change it from the default services login to be whatever WIndows login you have setup in Active Directory.  Then restart CF so that it's process is now running under that login with its credentials.  Then go to SQL Admin and setup that same login and give it access to the database you want to access.  Then go to CF Datasource menu and setup the datasource as you did previously.  If CF's support of Windows authentication for datasources does in fact now work, you should be in business.
If it doesn't work, then you'll need to do as I said earlier, and setup SQL logins for the CF servers to use, and then in the CF Datasource setup screens you would specify that login info in the same way that you would have given it the "sa" login info.

Hope this is the right thread to post on! We have been given the challenge of connecting to and reading data from a SQL Server 2000 database.

  • Error while trying to connect to a remote SQL Server DB using multiconnect

As part of our business process, we need to connect to a SQL Server DB external to SAP.
    We have done the following:
    1. We set up an ODBC connection on our SAP sandbox server to the external SQL server DB.
    Name: sdsdev
    Connection string: sdsdev\sqlexpress2008
    2. We tested the ODBC connection from within ODBC and it works perfectly
    3. Using transaction: DBCO we have set up a DB connection known to SAP that we can use in ABAP to retrieve the data.
It was set up with exactly the same parameters as with the ODBC.
We used the following connection string so it would know to use the ODBC DBSL profile parameters, with the DSN name
being the same as defined in the ODBC:  See below ...
        DB connection: AR_INTERFACE
        DBMS: MSS
        User Name: ARTransfer
        Password: ******
        Conn info: MSSQL_DSN=sdsdev
    4. We also made sure we installed the DBSL dynamic library (DLL) on the R/3 system server.
    5. We ran a small test program to test connectivity ... as below ...
         exec sql .
             connect to 'AR_INTERFACE'
         end exec.
right after the above command we check the system log for status.  It failed with the following message:

    Hi Nuno,
I just wanted you to verify the path where you have pasted JAR file. As you mentioned
    Path 1:
    C:\Sybase\UnwiredPlatform\Servers\UnwiredServer\lib
but as per doc it should be under:

  • Problem when connecting sql server 2005 using SQL developer

    Hi,
I installed Sql developer and I am trying to connect sql server 2005 using windows authentication. I had previously the SSO folder problem saying the path is missing in java.library.path. I copied the SSO folder into Sqldeveloper directory. I changed the settings under computer management->services and applications->sql server configuration manager->sql server 2005 network configuration ->protocols for sqlexpress->I enabled TCP/IP.
Now I am getting an error saying "Failure-can not open user default database.Login Failed. Login failed for user ...".
I am able to connect thru ODBC driver using windows authentication.
Any help on this is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lakshmi

    Hi Martin,
Your solution has solved my problem too. Thanks for posting these workaround fixes :-)
However, there seem to be a problem with datetime fields. The query:
    select getdate()
    returns something like: oracle.datetimestamp.@1aed4
Is there a way to get around with this? Otherwise, using SQL Developer as a client for SQL Server doesn't serve the right purpose when we cannot access simple date fields :-)

  • How do I make a connection to SQL Server Express using SQL Developer 1.5.3?

How do I make a connection to SQL Server Express using SQL Developer 1.5.3, if it's possible at all?
Also, I received a SQL Server dump file of some sort. Is there any way to read this file in SQL Developer and migrate the db to Oracle? Unfortunately I don't have raw DDL and DML for this database--just some sort of a binary dump file from SQL Server.
    Thanks.
    Dana

Are you using SQL Developer 1.5.3 or 1.5.4?
If using an older version (i.e. 1.5.3), then you'll have to add a DLL to your environment. This is [ntlauth.dll].
If you don't find this DLL in your SQL Developer directory, then obtain the JDBC SQL SERVER Pluggin (jtds-1.2.2-dist.zip) from:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=33291&package_id=25350
Copy the ntlmauth.dll in the ...\\...\ide\lib directory (no need to register it).
Note: this approach should work if using DQL Developer 1.5.3 and SQL Server Express 2008

  • Connecting to a sql server database using netbeans 5.5

Uhm SQL (Structured Query Language) is like the base
of all other type like MySQL and Oracle. Um, given the context I think the person was referring to "Microsoft SQL Server". Sometimes people will cut to the chase and refer to the product as "SQL". At those times it's understood by all parties that we're not talking about the query language, rather the Microsoft product.
I think this is one of those times.
    See
something i found in two seconds with the wonder of
    google http://sqlzoo.net/ & http://sqlzoo.net/w.htm
It's commendable that you're using Google. I'd argue that the OP should be making better use of it, too. But I don't think your response is applicable to this context. JMO, of course.

"[DBNETLIB] Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection"
After patches applied on patch Tuesday the database reports the above error.
All accounts are domain accounts and SQLServer uses Windows auth.
    DCDIAG show no errors
All servers and DC have been restarted,
Message in db log confirms the connection is being denied due to trust.

Cannot connect with newly created domain admin account
Can connect if new admin account connect to server in terminal server session and uses UDL wizard or any other tool including isql.
New standard user also fails to connect.
    NOTES:
I removed the SSL patch and the IE security update to see if that was an issue.

Has someone left the company or has an account of some nature been dropped/replaced?
Please click "Mark As Answer" if my post helped. Tony C.
    Hi Tony,
Srry but No.  We just installed the monthly updates.
I went back and found I had missed removing a patch.  I missed the rollup for Windows Server 2003:
    Event Type: Information
    Event Source: NtServicePack
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 4382
    Date:  3/12/2015
    Time:  12:26:04 PM
    User:  NETTEST\admin
    Computer: DATA1
    Description:
Windows Server 2003 KB954920 was removed from your computer, and the previous Windows Server 2003 configuration was restored.
After I removed that is still didn't work but after about five minutes it started working.
I guess I ned to report that to MS after I research what might be changed to make the patch work.
Every time I get stuck and ask for help it seems to be just before I stumble on the solution.
    Thanks for replying.
Well - maybe this will help someone else.
    Thanks again for replying Tony

  • How can I load a .xlsx File into a SQL Server Table using a Foreach Loop Container in SSIS?

I know I've REALLY struggled with this before. I just don't understand why this has to be soooooo difficult.
I can very easily do a straight Data Pump of a .xlsX File into a SQL Server Table using a normal Excel Connection and a normal Excel Source...simply converting Unicode to DT_STR and then using an OLE DB Destination of the SQL Server Table.
If I want to make the SSIS Package a little more flexible by allowing multiple .xlsX spreadsheets to be pumped in by using a Foreach Loop Container, the whole SSIS Package seems to go to hell in a hand basket. I simply do the following...
Put the Data Flow Task within the Foreach Loop Container
Add the Variable Mapping Variable User::FilePath that I defined as a Variable and a string within the FOreach Loop Container
I change the Excel Connection and its Expression to be ExcelFilePath ==> @[User::FilePath]
I then try and change the Excel Source and its Data Access Mode to Table Name or view name variable and provide the Variable Name User::FilePath
And that's when I run into trouble...
    Exception from HRESULT: 0xC02020E8
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [56]]:SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occured. Error code: 0x80004005.
Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source [56]]: Opening a rowset for "...(the EXACT Path and .xlsx File Name)...". Check that the object exists in the database. (And I know it's there!!!)
I don't understand by adding a Foreach Loop Container to try and make this as efficient as possible has caused such an error unless I'm overlooking something. I have even tried delaying my validations and that doesn't seem to help.
I have looked hard in Google and even YouTube to try and find a solution for this but for the life of me I cannot seem to find anything on pumping a .xlsX file into SQL Server using a Foreach Loop Container.
Can ANYONE please help me out here? I'm at the end of my rope trying to get this to work. I think the last time I was in this quandry, trying to pump a .xlsX File into a SQL Server Table using a Foreach Loop Container in SSIS, I actually wrote a C# Script
to write the contents of the .xlsX File into a .csv File and then Actually used the .csv File to pump the data into a SQL Server Table.
Thanks for your review and am hoping and praying for a reply and solution.

    Hi ITBobbyP,
If I understand correctly, you want to load data from multiple sheets in an .xlsx file into a SQL Server table.
If in this scenario, please refer to the following tips:
The Foreach Loop container should be configured as shown below:
Enumerator: Foreach ADO.NET Schema Rowset Enumerator
Connection String: The OLE DB Connection String for the excel file.
    Schema: Tables.
In the Variable Mapping, map the variable to Sheet_Name, and change the Index from 0 to 2.
The connection string for Excel Connection Manager is the original one, we needn’t make any change.
Change Table Name or View name to the variable Sheet_Name.
If you want to load data from multiple sheets in multiple .xlsx files into a SQL Server table, please refer to following thread:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7411741/how-to-loop-through-excel-files-and-load-them-into-a-database-using-ssis-package

  • Why is my application name not showing up in the SQL Server connection properties?

If I understand correctly I should be able to have the application name from application.cfc show up in my SQL Server connection string (i.e. in the program_name column of sp_who2) if I go in to the DSN advanced settings and check "Application Name" under Client Settings.
However having done that I still don't see anything in the program name columns of the sp_who2 result set. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I drew my shape, then went to the GRADIENT panel and clicked in the default gradient box to apply the default white to black gradient.  Normally you can click on either color to change it using the ways I described in my original post but those are not available to me.  The only way I could add a color was to drag it from the SWATCHES panel into the gradient colors slider.
This means that I cannot make changes to colors directly in the gradient panel like before.  I have to make changes to the individual colors but clicking on the color in the gradient slider then going to the COLOR panel and adjusting the color there. Or by dragging in a whole new color from the COLOR or SWATCHES panels.  This is really killing my work flow.

The first few things to check would be
Is TCP/IP Protocol enabled on the Test SQL Server Instance?
If it is configured is it running on the default port or a different port has been specified? In case a different port has been specified then your configuration URI should reflect that OR the SQLBrowser service needs to be running
The MS DTC configuration on the SQL Server need to have been configured with BOTH inbound/outbound enabled (Component Management - DTC)
The Windows Firewall on the BizTalk Server Test should be a) disabled or b) configured to permit connection to the SQL Server on either 1433 or the specific instance port.
