SQL Server in Computers view but not in SQL Computers view

I'm using SCOM 2012. I have a computer with SQL 2008 R2 installed on it and the SCOM agent is installed and running as Local System on it.
That computer appears in the computer view in monitoring but it doesn't appear in the SQL Server Computers view - the SQL Agent isn't listed either.
I have several other SQL servers which are all listed as expected and I'm struggling to work out why this particular server doesn't have it's SQL components listed.

  • My Javascript works in Dreamweaver Live View, But Not On The Server

    I set up a javascript function to set the focus to the first field in a form as the page loads.  It works fine in Dreamweaver's Live View, but not on the local or remote servers.  Here's the code:
    In the heading I have the following function:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function setFocus()
    document.getElementById("firstname").focus();
    </script>
    In the <head tag, I have:
    <body onload="setFocus()" ...
    and the first field in the form is:
                <input name="firstname" type="text" id="firstname" style="text-align: center; color: #009; text-transform: capitalize; font-variant: normal; font-weight: bold; line-height: normal; font-style: normal; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" tabindex="1" value="<?php echo $fstname; ?>" size="15" maxlength="20">
    I guess I must be missing something, but don't know what.

    EUREKA! (and OOOPPPPSS!)  I found the problem (and I thought javascript was case sensitive - according to the tutorial, it's supposed to be).
    Here's apparently wha hoppen.  The first field in the form is the person's first name, but it's also a SPRY validation field.  I gave the actual field the name and id of "firstname", and the SPRY validation the name "FirstName", figuring that scripts would be case sensitive.  In fact, when I first inserted the SPRY object, I tried to name it "firstname" also, but it wouldn't let me, so I capitalized the first letters, and it accepted that; that made me feel that this is OK.  Here's the entire field's code:          <label>First Name:
               <span id="FirstName">
                <input name="fstname" type="text" id="fstname" style="text-align: center; color: #009; text-transform: capitalize; font-variant: normal; font-weight: bold; line-height: normal; font-style: normal; font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;" tabindex="1" value="<?php echo $fstname; ?>" size="15" maxlength="20">
                <span class="textfieldRequiredMsg">A value is required.</span><span class="textfieldMinCharsMsg">Minimum number of characters not met.</span></span></label>
    I accidentally tripped over the answer when I started using the Dreamweaver's Edit>Find Next search to see if I had something else named "firstname", and I found that it located every permutation of that word (e.g. firstname, FirstName, FIRSTNAME etc.).  Having seen that, I tried changing the "name=" and "id=" to "fstname, and the same corresponding change in the javascript, and VOILA! it worked.  That leaves me rather curious about this alleged "case sensitivity" thing.  I get the impression that it IS case sensitive, except when IT'S NOT.  How does this work, and how do I know when it is and isn't?

  • SQL Server 2012 DB Engine does not start (clean install with server 2012 and 2008 R2)

    I'm trying to do clean installation of SQL server 2012 on Server 2012 (which is runnning as a VM on ESX server) and getting this "wait on the DB engine recovery failed" message. Initially, I though this issue was related to some permission issues
    but changing the permission or service accounts didn't help. I'm not seeing any "denied" messages in the log files either. Even with Server 2008 R2 (clean built VM), the installation gives the exactly the same error messages.
    My setup is purely for test purpose; so, the security is not a concern. Can someone help or give me a clue where to look?

    Hi Nababoya:
    As you are telling this is a test installation process...
    In the logs i m seeing the error message "An error occurred while processing the log for database 'model'.  If possible, restore from backup. If a backup is not available, it might be necessary to rebuild the log.".
    1) If the SQL Services was installed successfully and SQL Service was not able to start because of model database issue...
        1.1) If you have model database SQL back file, start the SQL Server in single user mode with minimum configuration and try to restore MODEL database
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlserverfaq/archive/2011/05/11/inf-hey-my-sql-server-service-is-not-starting-what-do-i-do.aspx
        1.2) If you don't have backups., try to rebuild the system databases but make sure that you are not losing any data critical data on master and SQL Jobs on MSDB
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd207003%28v=sql.110%29.aspx#RebuildProcedure
    2) As if this is a new installation try to repair the instance with the help of setup media file
    3) If the repair option fails., the last option wipe out the complete SQL Server components from Services.msc and Registries and start new installation.
    4) Make sure when you are doing un-installation all the required SQL Server components on services.msc should be in stop state.
    Hope this helps and let me know any questions...
    Thanks,
    Thanks, Satish Kumar. Please mark as this post as answered if my anser helps you to resolves your issue :)

  • TF255186: The following SQL Server Reporting Services Instance could not be found

    Hi,
    I'm trying to install TFS 2013 on a remote SQL RS instance.
    Using the TFS 2103 U4 installation
    SQL 2012 RS, name instance, Server: SQLProdA, Instance Name COMRS
    When I enabled tracing using debugView I see the following output:
    [4160] [Error  @11:07:10.978] Exception Message: TF255186: The following SQL Server Reporting Services Instance could not be found: COMRS. The server name is: SQLProdA. (type TfsAdminException)
    Any ideas what the issue is?
    Thanks,
    reuvy

    Hi Charles,
    Thanks for the help. I already saw those links, and am already trying with the format. As I wrote above:
    Server: SQLProdA, Instance Name COMRS
    So I wrote in the box "SQLProdA\COMRS" (without quotes of course) and I still keep getting that error.
    I don't know if it matters, but although this is indeed a named instance, nonetheless, the path to the report server uses the default url (ie.
    http://servername/reports) as opposed to the name instance version (ie.
    http://servername_instance/reports) as mentioned by your link and this post:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb552341.aspx
    But, I checked with Fiddler on the server and didn't see it trying to even access the link so I don't think it is related. I saw with Process Monitor that it is indeed trying to access via the network resources on SQLProdA, so I know it's trying.
    I have noticed something in the past, and wondered if this could be the issue, that for example if I have Management Studio 2014 installed, I cannot connect to a Reporting Services instance which is 2012. Only when Management Studio 2012 is installed
    and being used can I connect. I wondered if this possibly could be related, that maybe the API or something else which the installer is using is missing some component to connect to the RS instance.
    Just in case, I already installed both the SQL 2012 and 2014 Client Tools Connectivity (although I first installed 2014, and then 2012).
    Do you think this could be the issue? If not, do you possibly have any other leads?
    Thanks,
    Reuvy

    As such, I downloaded SQL Server 2012 Evaluation and tried to upgrade SQL Server 2008 PowerPivot for Sharepoint instance to SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot
    for Sharepoint. It didn't work as it's not possible to upgrade from Enterprise to Evaluation edition without a pid.
    Next, I uninstalled the existing SQL Server 2008 PowerPivot for Sharepoint and I installed the SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot for Sharepoint.
    I started to configure PowerPivot in Central administration (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210609.aspx) , but I got stuck at the 2nd step Create and Configure a PowerPivot
    Service Application (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210685.aspx) in Central Administration.
    The problem is that both SQL Integration Service  and SQL Server PowerPivot System service are not visible in Central administration > Manage
    services on server; however they are visible and running in Windows Administrative Tools > Services.
    Do you think the services are missing in Sharepoint Central Administration because the Sharepoint configuration database is on SQL Server 2008, while the Powerpivot instance is on SQL Server 2012 ?

    Thank you for the suggestion.
    Meanwhile I have managed to solve the problem. What I've done:
    - remove PowerPivot configuration using the Power Configuration Tool
    - uninstall PowerPivot
    - reinstall PowerPivot
    - run PowerPivot Configuration Tool - I still got the parent service error
    - remove PowerPivot configuration using the Power Configuration Tool
    - run PowerPivot Configuration Tool - this time I received another error regarding the user that runs SQL Server Integration services
    - check  Sql Server Analysis Service account in Central Administration > Security > Service accountsManage service account - it seems that it was running under Local System account, although in Administrative Tools > Services it appeared to
    be run by my domain account
    - set a domain account for Sql Server Analysis Service in Central Administration
    - run the PowerPivot Configuration Tool - this time it went smoothly.

  • How come the SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio will not recognize my AdventureWorksDW after installation?

    I am trying to do the tutorial for SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio, but I can't get the AdventureWorksDW to be recognized by it, when I try to connect to it.
    I have tried to shut down, restart, downloaded a couple of different versions of AdventureWorksDW (I believe 2008 is the one I need), and tried to attach this AdventureWorksDW using SQL Server Management Studio 2008R2, but I cannot even do that! The instructions
    for attaching a DB tell me to open Management Studio, then open a connection instance.  But then I cannot find the database button to right click on, or the attach item in the menu that is supposed to be there with it.
    I had installed AdventureWorks2008R2 previously and the SQL Server BIDS sees that, but of course I cannot do the tutorial without some serious mods if I do that. I have rebooted computer, closed and reopened the BIDS app, deleted and re-created the
    OLE-DB connection in BIDS, but nothing works. What am I doing wrong? I've worked in mostly the Oracle world for most of my career so I'm not new to either DW or relational DB, but this one is driving me to pull my hair. Any help greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!  Is this correct?
     CREATE DATABASE AdventureWorksDW2008R2_data
    ON
    (FILENAME
    =
    'C:\SSIS Downloads\AdventureWorksDW2008R2_Data')
    FOR
    ATTACH_REBUILD_LOG
    I tried this and it gives me a cannot find file specified error, but my file IS located at
    C:\SSIS Downloads
    error is:
    Msg 5120, Level 16, State 101, Line 1
    Unable to open the physical file "C:\SSIS Downloads\AdventureWorksDW2008R2_Data". Operating system error 2: "2(The system cannot find the file specified.)".
    I will continue to play with it, thanks very much!
    Try as below,
    sp_attach_single_file_db 'AdventureWorksDW2008R2'
        ,'C:\SSIS Downloads\AdventureWorksDW2008R2_Data.mdf'

  • SQL Server Browser service group does not exists. Check for earlier failures in the setup. during sql express 2008 R2 setup

    Hello,
    I have an issue while installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. When I was installing SQL Server, I occurred an error message as shown in the figure.
    I have followed couple of links as in
    this and
    this links but it did not fix the issue. Can anyone help me on this issue?
    Regards
    Gaurav

    Hi gauravroondhe2306,
    According to your description, you fail to install SQL Server 2008 R2 express with the error that SQL Server Browser service group does not exist. Please help to post SQL Server setup error log for analysis. By default, SQL Server setup summary and detail
    logs are located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
    Based on my research, this issue could occur when you install SQL Server on a Domain Controller, or the machine's name has been changed and the browser service group is named with the original machine's name.
    To troubleshoot the issue, you could follow the solutions below.
    1.Use SQL Server 2008 R2 Best Practice Analyzer to detect if SQL Server is installed on a domain controller. If SQL Server is installed on a domain controller, please demote your machine from being a domain controller and install the SQL Server again since
    it is not recommended to install SQL Server on a domain controller.
    2.Check if the name of local user group matches the machine's current name. If it doesn't match, please change the name of the local user group accordingly, and install SQL Server again. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • How come I can see my div in design view but not in live view

    Hi,
    I have a div ID called "portfolio" that I can see in design view but not live view or on a browser. It's a little pink square and I want that square round also.
    I ran it through validator. It picked up some things in the style.css which I changed and the boilerplate.css that I did not. Because I thought DW auto creates code for boilerplate because I don't enter that code myself.
    It's also rejecting a lot of webkit code but this seems like standard webkit code that works elsewhere on the page.
    BTW: at what point does this brutal hand coding pay off in money and less heartache when Wordpress looks cleaner and is so much easier to use? I feel like I barely know HTML or CSS in terms of translating vision to reality and with all-browser functionality after months and months of on-line classes. How long are the pros at it till they reach a watershed point?
    here's my address: http://www.adjacentdimensionsmedia.com/home.html
    Here's my html:
    <body>
      <div class="gridContainer clearfix">
        <div id="div1" class="fluid"><img src="adtitle2.png" width="700" height="80" alt=""/></div>
      <div class="fluid"><div class="box-shad"><a href="index.html"></a></div>
      </div>
        <div id="portfolio">Portfolio</div>
    </body>
    Here's my CSS:
    .box-shad {
      margin-top: 200px;
      margin-left: 100px;
      width: 900px;
      height: 700px;
      display: block;
      background-image: url("images/Big-tree-trans1.png");
      background-size: 900px 700px;
      -webkit-box-shadow: 15px 15px 15px #000000 inset;
      box-shadow: 15px 15px 15px #000000 inset;
      -webkit-border-radius: 50%;
      border-radius: 50%;
      position: fixed;
    .box-shad a {
        display:block;
        width:900px;
        height:700px;
    #portfolio {
      width: 100px;
      height: 100px;
      margin-top: 0px;
      margin-right: 200px;
      margin-left: 200px;
      margin-bottom: 0px;
      border-radius: 75%;
      -webkit-border-radius: 75% 75%;
      background: pink;
      top: -300px;
      position: relative;

    The top:-300 is putting that div above the top of the browser viewport. Fix that and you'll see the div.

  • "SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services does not support map report items"

    Hi,
    I am trying some new feature that are introduced in SQL Server 2008 R2 version. While I try to use "Map" control within it, it threw the following error:-
    "Error 1 The map, Map1, was removed from the report. SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services does not support map report items. "
    -Also, similar kind of error I am getting for "Indicator" control.

    Hi Tej,
    I think you get this error message when you are deploying a report to report server using BIDS, correct?  If not, please provide more details on your scenario :-)
    If I guessed correctly, then this message is a result of trying to deploy a map report (a SSRS 2008 R2 feature) to a non-R2 2008 report server.  When deploying a report of RDL2010 format to a non-R2 report server, BIDS will downgrade the file to RDL2008 format, so that the non-R2 report server can process it.  Any report elements using features not supported in RDL2008 will be dropped during this downgrade process.
    BIDS gets the server version from a report project property called TargetServerVersion:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee635898(SQL.105).aspx
    If your report server is indeed the 2008 R2 version, then the TargetServerVersion property should be set to "SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services."  The project property page also has a "Auto Detect..." option if you are uncertain about the version of your report server.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,

  • Help with Importing psd's, looks good in viewer, but not in canvas...

    I have been searching for threads related to this issue, and this is what i've come up with...
    It is my sequence settings, the picture looks great in the viewer but not in the canvas, as soon as i put it in the timeline, it goes blurry almost. I tried changing my settings to HD 16:9 and the picture looks great, but I need standard (NTSC DV 4:3), does anyone know a way around this? I can do it in Avid fine, why am I having such a hard time in FCP?
    Thanks
    P.S i have tried changing my image size in photoshop to 720x480 and 720x540 and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
    Jana

    The canvas is a low resolution proxy.
    What does your sequence looking like on your NTSC production monitor?

  • SQL Server Configuration Manager snap in not getting created by Microsoft Manager Console

    I just installed SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services.  I want to enable FILESTREAM so I can install the AdventureWorks sample database.  The instructions at this page:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645923.aspx say:
    On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2008, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Configuration Manager.
    When I open SQL Server Configuration Manager I get an error message:  "MMC could not create the snap in, the snap in might not have been installed correctly.  Name:  SQL Server Configuration Manager."  Then it gives me a CLSID.
    On this page:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174212.aspx it says:  "Microsoft Management Console (mmc.exe) uses the SQLServerManager10.msc file in the Windows System32 folder to open SQL Server Configuration Manager."
    I looked in the System32 folder and, sure enough, the file SQLServerManager10.msc is in there.  It's XML inside the file.
    Please help.  I really need to get this SQL Server Configuration Manager working so I can enable FILESTREAM data and install the database.  I appreciate any help you can give.
    --goldenthroat

    I'd try this first;
    Go to the Run from the Start menu and type mmc and press enter to open an empty console. Under the File menu select "Add/Remove Snap-in". Click "Add" under Console Root and select the "Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager" snap-in. Close windows until you are back to the mmc, and you can rename the "console1.msc" to default name which is "SQL Server Enterprise Manager.MSC" and save it under C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn (Default location of SQL Server 2000) - Obviously you want your 2008 installation folder and unfortunately I don't have it so I couldn't point you to it... http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/
