SQL Server ODBC drivers for Solaris
I am looking for an ODBC driver to let a Solaris box talk to a SQL Server 2012 db, I am hoping that someone will be able to put me in the right direction.
Thanks,
CB
Hello,
You can try to use the FreeTDS to connect to SQL Server database from Solaris.
Reference:
What is required to use Perl on Solaris to connect to MS-SQL?
Solaris + FreeTDS + Pymssql + MSSQL

Lack of TCP keepalive parameter in Microsoft SQL Server ODBC Driver for Linux
Hello,
the problem in the
aforementioned driver is the lack of TCP keepalive parameter that results in hanged threads because of closed connections on the SQL Server side, but not closed
sockets on the client side. This could happen due to network-related problems.
The driver is used in mission critical 24/7 uptime application and due to hanged threads the application cannot continue it's work and it needs to be restarted.
This is observed in the latest version of the driver on RHEL 5.6.
If you need clarification please ask.
Does anybody know any workaround to this situation or a solution that I'm not aware of?
Thank you for your help,
luk.sFind the TCP socket of the ODBC connection in your process and set the keep-alive option and keep-alive timeout on it.
You can do that by interposing socket system call.
Or use libkeepalive: http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/TCP-Keepalive-HOWTO/#libkeepalive -

Any help is much appreciated!!
Thanks,
Steve.Thanks Kgronau for your response.
I have made changes to the ODBC.ini file still getting the same error

MS SQL Server ODBC Connection On Linux
Hi All,
I am badly stuck with configuration of MS SQL Server ODBC connection on SUSE Linux 10. I am almost tried everything I got from SAP notes but still getting ODBC Lib Data Direct drivers could not be loaded IES 10901.
ENV: SAP BO 4.0 SP7, MS SQL SRV 2008
Here is what I have tried so far:
1) Modified env.sh under /install_dir/sap_bobj/setup and added the line in bold.
":${BOBJEDIR}enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib:${BOBJEDIR}enterprise_xi40/$SOFTWAREPATH32/odbc/lib"
The line should look like this
LIBRARYPATH="$LIBDIR:$LIBDIR32:$WCSCOMPONENTDIR:$PLUGINDIST/auth/secEnterprise:${CRPEPATH64}:${CRPEPATH}:${MWHOME}:$PLUGINDIST/desktop/CrystalEnterprise.Report:
${BOBJEDIR}enterprise_xi40/$SOFTWAREPATH32/ras:${BOBJEDIR}mysql/lib:${BOBJEDIR}enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib:${BOBJEDIR}enterprise_xi40/$SOFTWAREPATH32/odbc/lib”
2) We have .odbc.ini file in the home directory of our BO user on linux. Added following DSN entry (Same DSN is created on client and odbc connection has been created on the universe using this DSN:
boeadm01:~> vi .odbc.ini
[DSN_NAME]
Driver=/opt/sapboe/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib/CRsqls24.so
Description=DataDirect 6.0 SQL Server Native Wire Protocol
HostName=SQL Server Hostname
Database=SQL DB Name
QuotedId=Yes
AnsiNPW=No
3) We then added the environment variables and LIBPATH in BO user .profile file.
boeadm01:~> vi .profile
#Sql Server Environment
ODBCINI=$HOME/.odbc.ini
export ODBCINI
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/sapboe/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
4) Did echo to check the LIBPATH
boeadm01:~> echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/opt/sapboe/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/linux_x64/odbc/lib
5) Modified sqlsrv.sbo under /install_dir/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/dataAccess/connectionServer/odbc
<Parameter Name="Use DataDirect OEM Driver" Platform="Unix">Yes</Parameter>
6) Restarted BO node.
Tried creating a new webi report and got the error mentioned above.
Please help!!!

ThanksHi,
You have customers who are running distributed transactions using a gateway which need to be rolled back. However, the gateway has not been correctly configured for distributed transactions. To roll back a transaction on the SQL*Server database a connection is made as the user defined in the parameter HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT in the gateway init<sid>.ora file but this user has not been created in the SQL*Server database with the password defined in HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD. This user also needs to own the transaction log table.
I assume you are using the Database Gateway for SQL*Server (DG4MSQL) as the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) doesn't support distributed transaction.
If you have access to My Oracle Support have a look at this note -
How to Setup DG4MSQL to Use Distributed Transactions (Doc ID 227011.1)
Otherwise, check the Gateway documentation.

Regarding Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC (2.2.0019)
I have downloaded and installed Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC (2.2.0019). Now i have to configure it for my development purpose. Can i use this driver for my development purpose or not. If yes does it create any kind of problem in future when i change the platform. My development should not depend on driver and database.
Can i use any other driver provided by sun microsystem. If yes let me know where can i download and configure it.
Waiting for the updates ASAPSee, the bridge, being a type 1 driver has
river has all the inherent limitations of that type
drivers, due to the extra levels the data must
passthrough inthe journey between the DB and the
client. Also the use of native code.. makes it
unsuitable to be used in applets.. the odbc should be
configured in the client for this driver to work. etc.
etc.
It may be stable and useful for some
for some applications.. but for sccenarios where one
needs the solution tobe platform independent, ...By definition that would be the case. Of course the odbc-bridge does work on Windows, Solaris and Linux. So what other platform were you thinking about?
... less dependent on the user configuration,The bridge doesn't need any configuration. Or at least not any more than any other driver. The ODBC driver of course does need configuration.
...needs the minimum preparations from theuser, and above all give
the fastest response time for him, the bridge cannot
beat type 4 drivers. You are going to have to provide a link for that particular performance quote. Given that performance is impact most severely by requirements then design and finally by round trip time to the database I doubt that for applications (rather than benchmarks) that any difference is going to be significant.
the problem i think was my use of
my use of 'commercial' that u pointed out..
anyway.. u are of course right if what u intended was
stability only. but what i intended with that word was
different .. sorry for creating the confusion.
And it still seems like you are implying that it is not suitable for deployment in production systems. And as I pointed out I did deploy it in a large scale production system.
I am not saying that type 4 drivers do not have a place nor that they do not have advantages, but their mere existance does not prove that they are a better choice for all installations. -
SQLServer ODBC driver for solaris
Hi,
do anyone know where I can find the SQLServer ODBC driver for solaris in order to use Oracle Heterogeneus
Service?Easysoft has two ways to do this:
An ODBC-JDBC gateway driver that runs any JDBC accessible database including SQL Server under one license. Apparently, the ODBC C library has a JAVA engine in there to read the vendor JAR files. I tried it on Interbase with windows, and it worked fine.
They also have an ODBC-ODBC bridge, but that implies a Windows Server to provide the real SQL Server ODBC for free with another network hop. -
SQL Server Connectivity from Oracle Solaris 9.2
Hi,
We have data in SQL Server 2000 database and we need to transfer this to Oracle 9.2 database in SOLARIS environment. To do this, we would like to connect to SQL Server from Oracle Solaris, we explored options like
Transparent Gateway and Hetrogeneous Services.
We doubt whether it is possible to do so from Solaris environment to SQL Server, which runs only in Windows OS.
We tried connecting from SQL Server to Oracle Solaris, which we could not able to do it successfully.
Please guide us the various methods available to accomplish the same, thank you.

Error updating data source from SQL Server ODBC into SQL Native Client 10.0
I am converting Crystal 8.5 reports into Crystal XI release 2. The data source was ODBC using SQL Server 2000 and pointing to a stored procedure. In the new server the data source has to be ODBC again, but it uses the SQL Native Client 10.0 Driver, because the new server is SQL Server 2008. I have copied the same old stored procedure on the new server and it works fine as a data source to a brand new Crystal XI report. But when I am opening an existing 8.5 version crystal report and updating the data source to the new location I get the error message "Some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source".
I thought I could tackle this error by creating a temporary data source using the standard ODBC SQL Driver linked to the SQL 2008 Server instead of the SQL Native Client 10 ODBC. So I first updated the crystal data source to link to this temp ODBC using SQL Driver and it worked fine. But after that, when I try to update the data source to link to the SQL Native Client 10 ODBC, I get the same error again.
So I guess that the problem is not the new server itself, but the switch between SQL Server ODBC and SQL Native Client 10 ODBC.
Does anyone know what's going on with this SQL Native Client 10 in updating crystal report data sources?CR XI does not support that driver. Try selecting the Native driver or upgrade to CR XI R2 for free and use SP4, 5 and 6 and then FP 6.4 or upgrade to CR 2008 and SP 3 and Fix Pack 3.3
Thank you

Why SCCM 20012 Install fails with remote 64 bit SQL Server but proceeds for remote 32 bit SQL Server
I have the following setup:
AD User accounts
- SQLAdmin (used to run SQL Services i.e. Database Engine)
- SCCMADmin (used to install SCCM 2012)
SPN registered for user account SQLAdmin
setspn -S MSSQLSvc/SQL.Domain_Name:1432 Domain_Naem\SQLAdmin

and checked with setspn -L TESTING\SQLAdmin

2 SQL instances - Default (MSSQLSERVER) and
SCCM2012
MSSQLSERVER instance uses TCP port 1433
SCCM2012 Instance users TCP port 1432 (no dynamic ports)
User accounts that have been given public and sysadmin SQL server roles
on both instances are: SQLAdmin, SCCMAdmin, Domain Administrator, Local Administrator and computer account SCCM
Client Protocols TCP enabled (and Named Pipes) (checked via SQL Server Configuration Manager)
Local Administrators Group on this server has members - SQLAdmin, SCCMAdmin, Domain Administrator, Local Administrator and computer account SCCM

64bit Server that is to be the Primary Site Server\MP for SCCM 2012
ODBC link to SQL\SCCM2012,1432
ODBC link to SQL3\SCCM2012,1432
ODBC uses SQL Native Client 10.0 (64 bit)
Both ODBC connections when TESTed pass and suggest connectivity to SQL Servers
Install process doe SCCM2012
Tried to install SCCM 2012 RC2 when logged in to SCCM Server as AD user account
SCCMAdmin, and when utilising the SCCM2012 SQL instance on
32 bit server of SQL install proceeds barring warning about 8GB rec, for SQL Server. Then fails on PKI certificate issue. Installation (chose HTTP for MP). I beleive the PKI failure as install starts is
due to the fact that SCCM 2012 needs its database server to b 64 bit ?
Thus i then tried to install SCCM 2012 RC2 when logged in to SCCM Server as AD user account SCCMAdmin, and
when using the SCCM2012 SQL instance on
64 bit server of SQL install proceeds but fails at checking stage and says:
SQL Server sysadmin rights FAILED SQL3.Domain_Name
Either the user account running Configuration Manager Setup does not have sysadmin SQL Server role permissions on the SQL Server instance selected for site database installation, or the SQL Server instance could not be contacted to verify permissions. Setup
cannot continue.
and
Site System to SQL Server communication WARNING SCCM.Domain_Name
A communication error has been detected between the specified site system and the site database computer. This error can occur when the site database server is offline or if a valid SPN has not been registered in Active Directory Domain Services for the SQL
Server instance hosting the site database. Setup cannot continue.
Why does the install of SCCM 2012 with 32 bit SQL proceed further than the install with 64 bit SQL, with the latter process failing as above error meesages show and yet both servers are set identically (apart from temporary turning off Firewall on the 64
bit server) and during the install the Databse Server specified is accepted ?Thanks for the reply.
I can connect via ODBC to the the 32 bit SQL Server and the 64 bit SQL Server from the SCCM Server
The SQL Server Unit called SQL3 unit is a 64 bit SQL.
The SQL Server Unit called SQL is only 32 bit, but at least gets past the final checking stage and the error messages about sysadmin rights and Site System to SQL Server communication problem, and then fails with PKI certificate error message.
When trying to install SCCM specifying the 64 bit SQL Server as the Database Server it gives the 2 error messages at the final checking stage of the installation as listed.
So as I said what is confusing is the fact that if the SCCM install uses the remote 32 bit SQL Server it passes the final checking (although fails with PKI certificate message) but the 64 bit SQL Server set up exactly the same apart from the Firewall being
left off for the time being, fails at the final check stage with the 2 listed errors.
If I use a local 64 bit SQL Server the installation is fine.
Still would like to find out what cause the 2 issues for the remote 64 bit SQL Server, when ODBC seems fine, sysadmin rights have been given for the installer account and the SCCM computer account and SPNs have been set for the user account running the SQL
Services. -
Our builds kick off and run integration tests. They are configured to hit a SQL Server Express server.
If the builds have been quiet for a while, the first test to connect fails after stalling for 20 minutes.
Subsequent tests are fine.
Reversing test order does the same thing, with a different test.
We noticed in the SQL Server express log the server saying it is waking up after being idle.
Microsoft SQL Server Express with Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Drivers 4.0.2206.
Connection times out after 20 minutes.Occurs with the first connection made after the SQL Server Express server wakes up from going to sleep.Connections after the first are just fine, until SQL Server Express sleeps.SSL enabled. Timeout duration for the connection failure is unaffected by setting timeout options for the connection. Work around:
cron-like job that runs every minute that makes a simple query on the server keeps the server from going to sleep.
Has anyone else run into this?Hello,
SQL Server Express will go to sleep if idle, this behavior is not configurable.
When SQL Express transitions from idle to active some of the memory that was released needs to be reclaimed; this results is a slight lag during "startup time" when you're first connecting to SQL Express.
The other sort of sleep occurs when a database with AUTO_CLOSE unloading itself after a period of inactivity. This can be resolved by setting AUTO_CLOSE to false.
You can refer to the following blog about more details about this:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlexpress/archive/2008/02/22/sql-express-behaviors-idle-time-resources-usage-auto-close-and-user-instances.aspx
You can try to upgrade the SQL Server Express to a non-free version to get rid of this.

Hi there
I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC to connect to SQL Sever 2000. It is just a test application to see if it would connect to the datacase successfully. But I got the following errors. I already set up the classpath and installed all SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC sp 3. Dont know why it still failed...can anyone help me out of this? Thanks.
When i am using simple JDBC-ODBC bridge Driver it's working fine.
For this Server Pack3 , i have checked every thing like--
TCP / IP Poart is Enable.
I am working in client machine, my MSSQLServer 2000 Placed in server Machine.
when i am giving Telnet ServerIP 1433 it's giving following response.

Thanks in advance.
venkathey i also have this problem i have been looking for solution for this problem for along time i tried every possible solution i tried every service pack for the SQL but it didn't connect to the port!!!
it's a network problem ur java code is correct dont worry about it.
finally i had to install MySQL and it's work fine now but if u insist on usning SQL u have to use the JDBC-ODBC Bridge it will work by :
first add data source database , follow these steps
1- go to Administrative tools
2-Data Sources(ODBC)
3-System DNS tab and add then choose SQL SERVER the last option then finish
4-write the name; Note: this name is the one that u will write in ur URL for example if u write Hello the URL will be "jdbc:odbc:Hello"
5- choose the server, its recommended to write "." or (local)
6-change the database to its an important step to choose the database that u want to use, choose northwind if u want to use it
finish
second
adding this code:
import java.sql.*;
class JdbcTest1 {

Hello All,
I am the Systems Admin for a production box running SQL Server 2008 R2. I have been ask to do the following and and trying to figure out if it's even possible.
1. The Production Server is named ProductionA
2. Create 3 Administrator accounts on ProductionA each with access to the SQL Server instance on ProductionA. Use Standard SQL Server login for credentials. i.e. Username/Password and assign the role sysadmin.
3. Install 3 Virtual Machines on ProductionA each with Windows 2008 R2 64 bit operating system.
4. For each Virtual Machine, Install SQL Management Studio and write down the IP Address assigned to each VM.
5. Using Remote Desktop Connection, connect to each virtual machine to be able to manage the SQL Server.
Is this possible? And, why am i doing it? Because I DO NOT want the three people who will be having access to the production SQL Server to also have access to the primary host ProductionA. Since I have to allow them to RDC into the box
to manage the SQL Server, I figure why not create a separate VM for each one of them and they can RDC into those instead.
Does this make any sense?
Any tips are greatly appreciated. The main reason for doing this is because the three people who will be accessing the box, I need to isolate each one of them and at the same time keep them off of the primary ProductionA.
Thanks for your help.

Hello M,
Since you dont want the 3 guys to have access to Production machine A.You can install SQL Server client .By client i mean SQL server management studio(SSMS) on there local desktop and then create login for them in SQL Server.Open port on which your SQL server
is running for three of the machines so that they can connct. Now with SSMS installed on each machine each can connect to SQL server from there own machine.
I would also like you to be cautious with giving Sysadmin privilege to all three of them ,first please note down what task they would do and then decide what rights to be provided.
Your option will also work but you need to create 3 VM for that .Which is more tedious task.
Hope this helps

This 3rd time I followed this link. But nothing new, same error.
Can you please tell me how to do follow, I cannt do the 1st step, how to change the local system to windows level account, vice-versa. It is shown mine as
Server Configuration Manager(Local)
From here I folllowed the steps ---[I cannt insert link/image :-(]
SQL 2008/R2 setup fails with "Wait on the database engine recovery handle failed"
If I right clicked on SQL Server Service, there is no option to change the account.
Hello,
Thanks for your patience, did you tried stesp mentioned in below article
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/03/16/sql-2008-r2-setup-fails-with-quot-wait-on-the-database-engine-recovery-handle-failed-quot.aspx
To resolve it, follow these steps:-
When the installation throws this error, click on OK and allow it to proceed. It will fail for Database Engine, but the SQL Server service should have
been created. Check the Services console.
If the service is present, perform the following steps:-
1. Go to SQL Server Configuration manager, right click on the SQL Server service, and change the service account (if it is local system, give
it a windows level account, and vice-versa). It might throw a WMI error but you will see the account getting updated anyway. If not, then use the Services console. Change the account for SQL Agent as well.
Use this link to change sql server service account
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345578.aspx
2. Next, try to start the service. It should come online.
3. However, you will not be able to log in to the SQL Server
4. Now stop the service and start it from the command prompt using -m -c -T3608 parameters.
5. Now try logging in to the server using admin connection from sqlcmd (sqlcmd admin:<server name>\<instance name> ...)
6. Once logged in, use the sp_addsrvrolemember '<domain\username>','sysadmin'.
Also add the builtin/administrators to the sysadmin role
7. Now stop the service from the command prompt and start it from SQL Server configuration manager
You should be able to log in to the server now.
Hope this helps someone.
