'SQL Server PowerPivot Service Application' not in the list

Hi Guys,
I'm wondering why "SQL Server PowerPivot Service Application" is not in my service
application list when I'm trying to create a new one.. Did I miss something? Any ideas please? Thank you!
Regards, Glenn

It will be on the SharePoint server where you have installed the PowerPivot System Instance or if you are using a separate box for the PowerPivot instance that does not run SharePoint, the spPowerPivot.msi tools.

  • RDL Reports are not working after installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 in the SharePoint integration Mode

I am using Reporting Service Integration mode with SharePoint. SSRS is installed on separated machine of SharePoint stacks in Integration Mode. Everything was working properly and I could create/edit/modify RDL reports(parameters, Datasource, Subscription)
    inside SharePoint and Document Libraries.
But after installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2, on opening RDL reports inside SharePoint I receive this error message.
The permissions granted to user 'i:0#.f|membership|username' are insufficient for performing this operation. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user 'i:0#.f|membership|username' are insufficient for performing this operation
I should mention that SSRS is installed in the SharePoint integration Mode and there is no SSRS management console.

    Hi Hedayat-Abedijoo,
According to your description, you are using Reporting Services in SharePoint Integrated mode, and everything worked fine before you install SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2. After the package is installed, when you open RDL reports, the error occurred: The
permissions granted to user 'i:0#.f|membership|username' are insufficient for performing this operation.
According to my search, there may be two reasons for the problem:
This is caused when the application pool account that runs the SharePoint Web application you are on in IIS and the application pool account that SharePoint believes is running the site differ. This happens if the application pool account is changed directly
in IIS instead of through SharePoint (using the approved method).
This error can be caused when Kerberos authentication has been set up correctly and delegation in a double hop scenario will succeed, but Reporting Services integration has been set up for Trusted Account rather than Windows Authentication. This causes
SharePoint to continue to impersonate the logged-on user when contacting Reporting Services; when Reporting Services compares the application pool account to the user account making the request, they are not equal.
In this case, we can solve the problem by changing the application pool account in IIS back to the previous account and set AuthenticationTypes to RSWindowsNTLM only. For detail information, please refer to 8.3 “The permissions granted to user 'Domain\User'
are insufficient for performing this operation” in the document:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee384252(SQL.100).aspx

  • Using SQL Server Reporting Services Standard edtion on the Web/App server

I would like some clarification of when is it a supported configuration to use SQL Reporting Services Standard Edtion with BPC 7.0M.
If you have a standard Multi-server installation with WEB/APP/RS/IS on one server and SQL/AS on the other server, is SQL Reporting service required to be Enterprise Edition? The v7.0M SP4 installation guide is a bit confusing on this because it says Reporting Services standard edition is supported, but then it says that SQL Enterprise Edition is required on the web/app server.
The Web/app would have SQL Management tools (edition-independent), Integration Services (edition-independent) and Reporting Services (Standard is allowed?) - so that would seem to mean that you can have SQL Standard edition on the front-end Web/App server.
Please advise as to what we need to tell customers going forward.
    thanks,
    Tony DeStefanis

    Hi Tony,
SQL Server SE is supported for web/application server but you have limitation.
If you need multiple application server then RS has to be installed into a web farm and in thta case SE can not be installed it is required EE.
But if you have just one application server SQL server SE can be used without any problem.
More than that RS can be a complete separate server it is not necessary to be in any of SAP BPC server (web/application or database server) so in that case again you can use SE without any problem.
EE is required just when you need high availability and in that case you need to install RS into a web farm.
I hope this clarify a little bit when you can use and when you can not use SE for RS.

Opening SQL Server Management Studio causes the error -

Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

    Hello,
The issue may occure when the installation of your SQL Server is not a complete or a successful one. Did you try to repair or reinstall the SQL Server Express?  You can also try to install
Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2012
to check if the issue presists.

  • Backup-SPFarm for PowerPivot Service Application

    Hi
I am using Backup-SPFarm PowerShell cmdlet to take a backup of my service applications.
I am able to take the backup of all my services applications except PowerPivot Service Application.
    Below is my command:

    2) Backup, Copy, Restore the Databases
The “SharePoint database-attach upgrade” process is a sequence of steps to back up, copy, and restore PowerPivot related content and service application databases to the SharePoint 2013 farm.
Set Database to read-only: In SQL Server Management Studio, right-click the database name and click
Properties. On the Options page, set the
    Database read-Only property to
    True.
Back up: Back up each content database and service application database that you want to migrate to the SharePoint 2013 farm. In SQL Server Management Studio, right-click the database name, click
    Tasks, and click Back up.
File copy the database backup files (.bak) to the desired destination server.
Restore: Restore the databases to the destination SQL Server Database Engine. This step can be completed using SQL Server Management Studio.
Set Database to read-write: Set the
    Database read-Only to False.
Migrate Schedules option1: SharePoint farm administrator
In the SharePoint 2013 Management Run the Set-PowerPivotServiceApplication cmdlet with the
-StartMigratingRefreshSchedules switch to enable automatic on demand schedule migration
. The following Windows PowerShell script assumes that there is only one PowerPivot service application.
    $app=Get-PowerPivotServiceApplication
    Set-PowerPivotServiceApplication $app -StartMigratingRefreshSchedules
After the Windows PowerShell script is run, the schedules are active and the schedules will run at the next appropriate time. However, the status one the schedule refresh page is not enabled. When the schedule runs the first time it will be migrated and
on the schedule refresh page, Enabled will be true.
If you want to check the current value of the StartMigratingRefreshSchedules property, run the following PowerShell script. The Script loops through all PowerPivot service application objects and display the name and property values:
    $apps = Get-PowerPivotServiceApplication
    foreach ($app in $apps){}
    Get-PowerPivotServiceApplication $appp | format-table -property displayname,id,StartMigratingRefreshSchedules

  • After Installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack the RDL reports do not work

I installed SQL Server 2012 Service Pack on backEnd sharepoint and also on BI Server that host Reporting Service.(Before installation everything was working properly)
After this installation the RDL reports do not open and I receive this error message.
The permissions granted to user 'domain\username' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
I also receive the same error message on changing DataSource, Parameters and subscription.
I should mention that, I am using Reporting Services in the Integration Mode. I want to open and modify RDL reports from SharePoint and inside the SharePoint Document Library.

    Hi Hedayat,
    Thanks for posting your issue,
To solve this problem you have to grant your SQL Reporting Service Application Pool
Account (whatever is running your SQL Service Application, see Central Admin -> Manage Service Application -> SQL Server Reporting Services)
Full Control to the web application that report is being deployed to in your particular case.
Or you could just use the powershell command below:
    $webApp = Get-SPWebApplication –Identity http://yoursharepointapp
    $webApp.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity(“domain\SSRSAccount”)
Also, check out below mentioned URLs for more details and fixes of this issue

  • [Forum FAQ] The Reporting Server cannot be reinstalled on a same SQL Server Reporting Service instance

Symptom: Sometimes, when you want to reinstall the Reporting Server Role for Operation Manager 2012,
but you may encounter an issue that the Reporting Server Role cannot be reinstalled after you successfully uninstall it. When you check the System Center Operation Manager installation log, you can find the following error as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Reporting Server Role cannot be reinstalled
It seems that the SQL Server Reporting Service has not been configured properly. When you open Reporting Services Configuration Manager to check the settings, the settings seem fine though.
Even you recreate Reporting Service Database, the error remains.
After reviewing the OpsMgrSetupWizard.log, we get the following errors when wizard try to connect to SQL Server Reporting Instance (Figure 2).
    [07:24:05]:    Error:  :CheckHttpAddressResponse failed: Threw Exception.Type: System.Net.WebException, Exception Error Code: 0x80131509, Exception.Message:

    httpSite)
    Figure 2: Error Log -1
It indicates the Reporting Service encounters an internal error. The Website cannot handle the request. So you may check the Reporting Service log which is located in C:\Users\Administrator.SCOM2012\AppData\Local\SCOM\LOGS
and the following errors may be found (Figure 3).
    library!ReportServer_0-18!1448!03/30/2014-02:53:23:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ServerConfigurationErrorException:
Unable to load assembly Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Reporting.Security, Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ServerConfigurationErrorException: The report server has encountered a configuration error.  ---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Reporting.Security' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
    File name: 'Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Reporting.Security'
    Figure 3: Error Log -2
Reason: After the Reporting Server is installed on a SSRS instance, the Reporting Server of SCOM
needs to modify the web.config and rsreportserver.config  file to add its own assembly to make the Reporting Server work. But it does not change it back when Reporting Server is uninstalled. So the assembly cannot be loaded and the SSRS cannot respond
    our requests.
Resolution:  When the Reporting Server is installed, the old web.config and rsreportsserver.config
files will be backed up to web.config1 and rsreportsserver.config1. So you just need to change the files’ name back, then try to install Reporting Server of SCOM again. Everything would go smoothly.

    Hi AakashGhare,
According to your error message, SQL Server 2008 databases are version 655. SQL Server 2008 R2 databases are 661. When you are trying to attach an 2008 R2 database (v. 661) to an 2008 instance and this is not supported. As other post, once the database has
been upgraded to an 2008 R2 version, it cannot be downgraded. You'll have to either upgrade your 2008 SP2 instance to R2, or you have to copy out the data in that database into an 2008 database (such as using the data migration wizard).
In addition, if you want to use a Windows Batch file code and command to automatically login to SQL Server, detach database and attach a new one database, there is a similar details about batch code for attaching database to a new database, you can refer

    Ravi

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that  you got an error with SQL Server Analysis Services.
Did you have installed PowerPivot for Excel on a client machine and modeled a database as part of this workbook?
The refresh in question is about refreshing the embedded Analysis Services database with data retrieved from the backend sources (defined when the database was originally modeled) and resaving the updated workbook. It should not be confused
with Excel / Excel Services options to refresh the data connections in the workbook. That option is about refreshing data stored in Excel’s caches. With regards to PowerPivot, that would be refreshing from the embedded database, not the backend data from which
the database was sourced. In summary, this feature will not work against a workbook which does not have an embedded database because there is no database to refresh. This is by design and should not be interpreted as indicating that there is something wrong
    with your system.

For the error “The data connection uses Windows Authentication and user credentials could not be delegated. The following connections failed to refresh”.
There are multiple causes for this error message. The common factor behind all of them is that Excel Services cannot get a valid Windows user identity from a claims token in SharePoint.

  • TF255186: The following SQL Server Reporting Services Instance could not be found

    Hi,
I'm trying to install TFS 2013 on a remote SQL RS instance.
Using the TFS 2103 U4 installation
SQL 2012 RS, name instance, Server: SQLProdA, Instance Name COMRS
When I enabled tracing using debugView I see the following output:
[4160] [Error  @11:07:10.978] Exception Message: TF255186: The following SQL Server Reporting Services Instance could not be found: COMRS. The server name is: SQLProdA. (type TfsAdminException)
Any ideas what the issue is?
    Thanks,
    reuvy

    Hi Charles,
Thanks for the help. I already saw those links, and am already trying with the format. As I wrote above:
    Server: SQLProdA, Instance Name COMRS
So I wrote in the box "SQLProdA\COMRS" (without quotes of course) and I still keep getting that error.
I don't know if it matters, but although this is indeed a named instance, nonetheless, the path to the report server uses the default url (ie.
http://servername/reports) as opposed to the name instance version (ie.
http://servername_instance/reports) as mentioned by your link and this post:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb552341.aspx
But, I checked with Fiddler on the server and didn't see it trying to even access the link so I don't think it is related. I saw with Process Monitor that it is indeed trying to access via the network resources on SQLProdA, so I know it's trying.
I have noticed something in the past, and wondered if this could be the issue, that for example if I have Management Studio 2014 installed, I cannot connect to a Reporting Services instance which is 2012. Only when Management Studio 2012 is installed
and being used can I connect. I wondered if this possibly could be related, that maybe the API or something else which the installer is using is missing some component to connect to the RS instance.
Just in case, I already installed both the SQL 2012 and 2014 Client Tools Connectivity (although I first installed 2014, and then 2012).
Do you think this could be the issue? If not, do you possibly have any other leads?
    Thanks,
    Reuvy

  • SQL Server Browser service group does not exists. Check for earlier failures in the setup. during sql express 2008 R2 setup

    Hello,
I have an issue while installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Express. When I was installing SQL Server, I occurred an error message as shown in the figure.
I have followed couple of links as in
    this and
this links but it did not fix the issue. Can anyone help me on this issue?
    Regards
    Gaurav

    Hi gauravroondhe2306,
According to your description, you fail to install SQL Server 2008 R2 express with the error that SQL Server Browser service group does not exist. Please help to post SQL Server setup error log for analysis. By default, SQL Server setup summary and detail
    logs are located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
Based on my research, this issue could occur when you install SQL Server on a Domain Controller, or the machine's name has been changed and the browser service group is named with the original machine's name.
To troubleshoot the issue, you could follow the solutions below.
1.Use SQL Server 2008 R2 Best Practice Analyzer to detect if SQL Server is installed on a domain controller. If SQL Server is installed on a domain controller, please demote your machine from being a domain controller and install the SQL Server again since
it is not recommended to install SQL Server on a domain controller.
2.Check if the name of local user group matches the machine's current name. If it doesn't match, please change the name of the local user group accordingly, and install SQL Server again. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • "The PowerPivot service application could not connect to the Analysis Services instance"

    Hi
I am baffled by this one.  I have a PowerShell script I have built up to install PowerPivot, which I have put together by reading various blogs and by picking apart the scripts that come with the PowerPivot installer.
However, once I have built the service app and installed/activated the solutions and features, I get the error "The PowerPivot service application could not connect to the Analysis Services instance" when trying to use it.  I can't find any
more detailed messages, even with verbose logging turned on.  SSAS\PowerPivot is of course installed and connected to Excel as it should be.
I have tried running the PowerPivot for SharePoint validation tool and it doesn't find anything.
If I install PowerPivot using the PowerPivot for SharePoint installer, then delete the service app and rerun my scripts, everything then works fine.
So there is something the installer is doing that I am not, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is.  I though it might be permission related, but the official installer installs the service under the farm account, not my BI service account.
Ahaa, I thought, but when I then reinstall the service myself with my scripts, using my BI service account, the service app then works, so I don't think it can be permission related.
Doing a Google search on that message pulls up only one old post (repeated a few times), which talks about using a domain account for the SSAS instance instead of a Local System account - I am using the same domain service account for SSAS, Excel and
PowerPivot already, so that doesn't help me much.
Does anyone have any ideas for me or suggestions on how I might proceed?

Did you run the "Run PowerPivot for SharePoint Configuration Tool" after installing PowerPivot and did that work okay?

  • SQL Server Reporting Services SharePoint Integrated mode - Power View is not supported

    Hi there,
    My environment is the following:
    SharePoint Server 2013
SQL Server 2012 SP1 Enterprise edition
I am getting the following message when trying to open BISM item with PowerView icon:
"The feature: "Power View" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services."
My problem is that the first time I installed SQL Server Reporting Services SharePoint integrated, I used the SQL Server 2012 Standard edition ISO. But then I learned that Power View is only available with Enterprise and BI editions. So I uninstalled Reporting
Services Add-in from Control Panel, Reporting Services from the installation media and deleted the three Reporting DBs in the SharePoint DB server.
Then I used SQL Server 2012 SP1 Enterprise media to install again Reporting Services but not sure why I am still getting the message:
"The feature: "Power View" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services."
Anyone can advice me what could be the problem? Maybe I have not complete deleted  the previous SQL Server Reporting Service Share Point integrated mode from the previous installation? What would be the proper way to uninstall Reporting Services?
    Any help will be welcome.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Joss

    Hi  Joss,
I am in the same situation,
SQL Server was installed in the standard mode because of that the powerview option is not working.
I have changed teh edition using maintenance --> upgrade edition. the sql server components like DB engine, SSAS and integration services are now showing in enterprise edition. The reporting services are installed from the application end still showing
as the reporting services are standard.
we reinstalled the reporting services but still persists the issue.
suggest me is there any work around to fix the issue other than reinstalled the whole SQL Server.
    Thanks
    Ramu
