SQL Server Time Zone settings

Hi Folks,
I am looking for some help on how we will handle time zone setting in a SQL Cluster.  We currently have a six node SQL cluster with multiple instances running on it.  I have been asked to supply a new Instance for a new project but the problem
is the users that will be using it are based in New Zealand and We are located in Dublin!  They will be using a Dynamics Navision database on this Instance.  So my question is can I set the time zone different on this new Instance to their time,
cant seem to find any details this.  Most of the documentation seems to indicate you use the datetimeoffset feature or its usually handled within the Application.  I am hoping its the latter but any help on this would be grateful, especially if somebody
had experience with the issue before.
Thanks
TD

That's quite the time difference, hope you're not on-call ;)
SQL Server doesn't maintain it's own time, it just inherits it from Windows, so in this case you'll have to leave the time as-is and allow the app to handle it. I've previously worked with navision over two time zones (only a one hour difference though) and
I believe it maintains dates in UTC.
Just be careful that any custom code you run in SQL Server jobs, etc also uses UTC.
Edit: The
Nav datetime is stored in UTC
A DateTime is stored in the database as Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

  • Standby server time zone - sync-up with primary

As we are running our database with physical standby database - Oracle 10.2.0.3, O/S RHEL4 ES
now the primary database server time zone is set to EST Time Zone and Standby database server is set to PST time Zone
We would need to Sync-up standby time zone with Primary database server (EST)
and also the standby server is having 2 instances,
    1. standby instance
    2. independent instance
We are running rman for both the instances in standby server
as part of this time sync, we need to bring down both the instances then reset the time zone in standby server as primary and bring both the instances up and run the rman backup.
    is this fine.
Please let us know if this is fine or do we need to perform anything more.
    Thanks,
    AJ

Please see the attached screenshot, which is of the last page of the Sync Setup process. It says to backup your Sync Key, and it offers a Print ... button and a Save... button. The correct Sync Key is necessary to recover your data, it is the encryption / decryption key. Sorry, without it your data is useless.

My home base is sydney. and whenever i travel the menu bar time will always show sydney time.
This is AFTER i've manually changed the time zone setting in sys preferences.
I tried running istatmenus, it seems to do the same thing (display sydney time).

  • Time zone settings SNS3415-K9 with ISE 1.2

Hi, I require to change the time zone on a SNS3415-K9 which supports ISE 1.2 platform. I try to make the change but the application does not respond. I need to know if there are any special procedure for this?

    Hi,
Have you rebooted your appliance after your time zone change ??
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/nac/guestserver/configuration_guide/21/nacguestserver/g_setup.html
Step 1 From the administration interface, select Server > Date/Time Settings to display the Date/Time Settings page as shown in Figure 3-5.
    Figure 3-5 Date/Time Settings
Step 2 Select the correct System Date and System Time for the location of the Guest Server.
Step 3 Select the correct System Timezone for the location of the Guest Server.
Step 4 Click the Save Settings button to apply the System Timezone.
Note Changing the System Timezone automatically adjusts the date and time on the server.
Step 5 If you have one, two or three NTP servers available on the network, click the Use NTP to set System Date & Time checkbox.
Step 6 Enter the IP address of each NTP server available into the fields provided.
Step 7 Click the Save Settings button to apply the changes.
Note When setting the NTP server it may take some time for synchronization. Synchronization occurs much faster if the time is set close to the NTP server (and saved by clicking the Save Settings button) before saving the NTP Server settings.
Step 8 Click the Reboot Server button to restart the NTP process so the new settings take effect.

  • Location Services vs. Time Zone Settings

i am being given advice to turn OFF Settings > Date and Time > Time Zone Tab > "Set Time Zone Automatically using Current Location" - presumably so that when i travel all my events stay at the time that i set them to. for instance in the case of a return airline flight, so that the alerts will alert me at the correct time.
right now - i think - that if the Time Zone updates and i am traveling east (say from CST to EST) then the phone changes all my appointments in Calendar and they all show up an hour LATER than when i originally set them. this way i miss my flight.
however, i am not sure if there are consequences to this.
also, i can't tell if i should also change the Settings > Date and Time > Date and Time Tab > and UNCHECK "Set Date and Time Automatically".
also, i am getting uber confused between the settings on my phone as compared to those on my MBP or on Calendar. Location Services i think is a iPhone specific setting whereas Calendar > Preferences > Advanced > "Turn on TIme Zone Support"
anyone licked this so that it all works?

    hi braden.
i have tried this "empirically" a couple of times by traveling to another time zone but i was basically testing to see if i can get this to work. the first time i did this i did not get the alert that i set because something had gotten adjusted and the time of my event that i had set had gotten "pushed back" - i think basically due to the time change between CST and EST. this is a problem since when i travel it is helpful to have the alerts on my phone. right now i am having a hard time figuring out why it would not be the case - given the explanation in your tech articles - that this won't happen again if these settings are on. conversely, if i turn oen or both of them OFF - it is not clear to me what the consequences are.
there is such as thing as a "floating" event which is supposed to (i think) alert at any time zone at the time that you SET the event - so that it does not ADJUST based upon your traveling to a new time zone. however, there appears to be a lot of confusion as to whether this works and/or to what extent it has limitations.
for instance, is this a viable way to get calendar to work across time zones? i mean, the articles you helpfully post don't seem to address how this works from a practical perspective.
    here are my settings.
    MBP:
Settings > Date and Time > Date and Time Tab > Set Date and Time Automatically (currently set to ON)
Settings > Date and Time > Time Zone > Set Time Zone Automatically Using Current Location (currently set to ON)
Calendar > Preferences > Advanced > Turn on Time Zone Support (currently CHECKED)
    iPhone
Settings > General > Date and Time > Set Automatically (currently set to ON with “Time Zone” showing as Chicago)
Settings > Mail, Contacts > Calendars > Time Zone Support (currently set to Houston)
Settings > Mail, Contacts > Calendars > Time Zone Support > Time Zone Support Slider (currently set to ON)
    1. do i need to do anything special when setting an EVENT while i am in CST (for instance) but the event is going to happen while i am in EST? i mean, can i just set the event with these settings and leave it as CST?
    2. do i need to MANUALLY adjust my iPhone and MBP - once i arrive in EST - to show up as CST in order to get the alert to go off at the correct time?
    3. do i need to MANUALLY pull down an event to "FLOATING" any time this event will happen outside the time zone i am in?
    4. are there any limitations to using a FLOATING event? i know one cannot set a floating event from the iPhone but if this works and this is the only limitation i can do this method.
    5. i have heard some people resolve this issue by MANUALLY setting their time zone for their "home time zone" and they TURN OFF time zone support on all their devices so that the events happen at the correct time with no time zone adjustment. does anyone know if this method works? does anyone know if there are complications to such a move - for instance if i was to work in another continent for a period of time it seems like you would have to change your time zone and this would affect all previously entered events. but also i cannot figure out if doing this will let the TIME on my MBP and my iPhone read correctly since this is very important to me.
sorry to be posting on this but this is very difficult to test and threads such as there indicate there is a lot of ongoing confusion about this.

any thoughts? or perhaps there is someone that has travelled recently and has this down to a science?

  • Changing BO Server Time Zone

    Hello,
When we refresh report and displa last refresh date in it, the date/time displayed is GMT. We want to display US EST. We want to do this as server level as opposed to having each user change it from their preferences.
Our BO server OS is Linux and our Linux team has changed the BO server box time zone to US EST, But we still see GMT. We are on BO XI R3 SP2 FP2.5 and web server is Netweaver. BO and web server are installed on the same box.
    What are we missing?
    Thanks,

What is the time zone set on the Web and App servers?
If you go InfoView and CMC preferences, you should see the Time Zone field. What is the value in that?
In the Web and App server if it is set to EST, make sure you have time zone set to Default - Local to web server in CMC and Infoview preferences.

    Hi,
I'd like to check if SQL Server will consume memory more than the configured MAX Memory settings? And if so when does SQL consume that and how much would it consume.
    Hi
Can you please tell us what is version and edition of SQL Server here. If it is 2012 its little difficult to reporduce your scenario where SQL Server 2012 will take more than max server memory setting because lots of features which use to take memory
outside buffer pool before SQL 2012 are now changed to take memory from buffer pool. Also quite lot depends on whether system is 32 bit or 64 bit
For SQL Server versions below 2012(not SS2000) you might get lucky with following (taken from
    Here)
    1. COM Objects
    2. SQL Server CLR
    3. Memory allocated by Linked Server OLEDB Providers and third party DLL’s loaded in SQL Server process
    4. Extended Stored Procedures:
    5. Network Packets
    6. Memory consumed by memory managers. If the memory request is greater than 8 KB and needs contiguous allocation.
    7. Backup
If you heavily use above features you might see SQL Server memory utilization crossing above max server memory setting. Of all above SQLCLR and extended stored procs would be my bet. If you use them heavily you might see what you want to. Extended
stored proc has performance issues so use it on your own risk. Use below query to check SQL server memory utilization( works from SS 2008 and above)
    select
    (physical_memory_in_use_kb/1024)Memory_usedby_Sqlserver_MB,
    (locked_page_allocations_kb/1024 )Locked_pages_used_Sqlserver_MB,
    (total_virtual_address_space_kb/1024 )Total_VAS_in_MB,
    process_physical_memory_low,
    process_virtual_memory_low
    from sys. dm_os_process_memory

  • Automatic Time Zone Settings won't work on my Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.7

In Settings, Date & Time, when I attempted to select "Set time zone automatically using your current location", my Macbook Pro attempetd to find location, and after a while it end up with a dialog read "Unable to determine current location at this time"
I have to disable this feature and use manual selection of my time zone (Indochina Time, Bangkok, Thailand)
Anyone here have recommendation to make this one work properly?
\My location service is enabled on y system!
    help please

I got that problem for several months and used to update my location manually. Today, I got lucky. Try this:
In Security System Preference pane, General tab, make sure the "Disable Location Services" is unchecked. Then Reset Warnings.  Click OK to allow the service to ask you to use your location every times it'll need it. Now I got the right time zone. Finally!

  • How to automate Sql Server Configuration Manager settings?

For example, I have just installed Sql Express 2012, and need to configure it for use over the local network. Usually I just manually open Sql Server Configuration Manager -- Sql Server Network Configuration -- <myinstance>, and enable TCP/IP on 1433.However,
I am not going to be available to do this on every customer's computer. I need to do these steps using a script or something. Is there a way to do this?

Have a look at this stackexchange thread:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9138172/enable-tcp-ip-remote-connections-to-sql-server-express-already-installed-databas
There are two good options outlined there
    1. install it with the /TCPENABLED=1 switch (in the original post)
    2. Execute a wmi script post-install (in the answer)
Note: if you decide to use WMI the root path will be \root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ComputerManagement11 for 2012
I will have to support install time, and post install. Does TCPENABLED=1 also setup the 1433 port value in TCP/IP Properties - IP Addresses tab?

  • Time issues? time zone settings appear in two places

If you leave the default "set time and date automatically", you see the time zone support below and you can check it or uncheck. You can then set your time zone there. But if you uncheck the automatic date and time, you get another time zone choice and the default is Cupertino, of course. I wonder if that's the problem with some of these time issues.
I've since unchecked automatic date and time, set my city's time zone, then rechecked automatic. The only weirdness I've seen was with an excel spreadsheet where the time was correctly shown on my mac, but not on the iphone. Unfortunately I don't have that sheet anymore or I'd try again to see if it works now.
    Just a thought.

I noticed the same thing and did the same thing you did because my time was off by several hours each time I turned the phone on...after it being off overnight. When it was off by only 1 hour I could turn the Auto OFF then 'tap' the timezone (already set to the correct city) and the time would instantly correct itself. Then I'd turn Auto back ON.
Turns out that my time issue was related to having the SIM PIN enabled. Once I disabled that, the time's been correct every day.

  • MS SQL Server 2000 JDBC Settings

    Hi,
I am new to weblogic and i am developing my final year project using weblogic 8.1 SP 3.0. I want to use MS SQL Sever as a database. Can anyone tell me how to configure MS SQL Server for weblogic and how to communicate with it with the help of an example. I have tried my best to configure it by searching material but it is not working. Please help. You can also send me the reply on my email id i.e [email protected]

Thanks for trying to help, but this below is unnecessary and counter-productive.
WebLogic comes already with a comprehensively superior JDBC driver for MS SQLServer
(2000 and up). Just follow the documentation at:
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/jdbc_drivers/mssqlserver.html#1043185
    Joe
To configure WebLogic with SQL Server:
    1. Install the SQL Server with SQL2kdesksp3.exe
    2. Add the SQL Server driver jar files msbase.jar, msutil.jar and mssqlserver.jar to the Classpath in the startWebLogic script.
    3. In the administration console configure a new JDBC connnection. In the Configure a JDBC Connection Pool frame select MS SQL Server in the Database Type field. Select Microsoft???s MS SQL Server Driver (Type 4 ) driver as the Database Driver.
    4. In the Connection Properties frame specify the Host Name as localhost, Port as 1433, Database User Name as sa and Password as the password used login to the database.
    5. In the Test database connection frame specify the Driver Classname as com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver, URL as jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433
    6. In the Create and deploy frame select the server to which the JDBC Connection pool is to be deployed.

  • How to use time zone settings with calendar events ??

After looking through the questions on time zones and synchronization, I still cannot get my Palm Centro to operate the way I think it should.
I have a Verizon Centro, am using Windows XP with Outlook, and synching via the Hotsync manager 7.02 over a USB cable.  I am not using Palm Desktop.
I am expecting events to shift time in the calendar when I change the time zone, but they do not.
I am preparing for a trip.  I enter several test events into MS Outlook placing the events to occur in a different time zone into my calendar at the time the event would occur in my home time zone (NY).   For example, a meeting from 9-10 AM in Los Angeles is put in my MS outlook calendar as 12-1 PM on the day of the meeting.  Then I sync, with the time zone of my Centro and Outlook set for New York.  The Centro is set to update Date, Time, Zone automatically from the network in New York. The meeting event appears as 12-1 PM on the correct day.
Then I turn off the Centro phone (ie disconnect from the Verizon network), change the time update to "Nothing" -- ie entirely manual, change the time zone to Los Angeles and set  the time to the correct time in Los Angeles.   I expect the meeting to shift to 9-10 AM in my Centro calendar, but it does not !!!!!  I try other combinations -- Leave the time update on Date and Time automatic, and change the time zone to Los Angeles, etc.  I think I tried all the combinations.  Throughout, I leave the Centro phone off of the Verizon network.  I cannot get the meeting to change its time in the new time zone.
What is the trick ??? What did I miss ??
You might ask why I am trying this with the phone turned off -- that is because I am really going much farther than LA, and into a GSM network where I will simply use the Centro as a PDA.
    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks for the response.
Indeed my preference was not set "new events use time zones".
Meanwhile, I had loaded all the applointments from Outlook, about 20 of them,
figuring I would just move them manually en route.
I will play with the time zone preference, but,
is there any way to identify the existing appointments in the
Palm as belonging to a different time zone, just using the Palm Centro ?

We sent Service Request to Microsoft Support and we been advised to wait for the next version of Project Online. To avoid the confuse happen to our Project Team, we have to set the Regional Settings back to "(UTC -08:00) Pacific Time (US and

According to your post, my understanding is that SharePoint 2010 (SP2010 SP1+ AU CU 2011) site built with Project Web Access template shows warning "Your Local Machine Time Zone does not match your current Sharepoint Regional Settings".
Users are getting this message even after correctly specifying and changing the timezone in their Sharepoint Settings. This is a common problem across the net, but we've found a workaround

Step 1: Open your Web Database in your Browser
