SQL statement doesn't return data

Hi,
Please I am facing a problem where I took the sql statement from an oracle report and I'm applying it on TOAD 9.0 but it is not returning any data. The thing is that on the application the report returns data but as I checked on the TOAD it showed that some tables have no data.
How is this possible??
Do I need to apply some code before I apply my select statement??
Hope you can help here,
Thanks in Advance,
Ashraf

Hi Ashraf,
As it should be if a Query in Report is returning data so should the same query return data if used either in Toad or SQL Plus.
In your report do check if you have any parameters and do this parameters have any default values and are you using the same parameters.
Also do check the source of the Report which the application is executing and the one from where you are using the Query is same.
Best Regards
Arif Khadas

  • Query in ASWE XML code doesn't return data

    Hello, since people on the Oracle Metalink site are to lazy to give an answer to this question. I'll try it via this forum. Here we go:
    I'm developing wireless applications running on Oracle9i Application Server Wireless Edition. I'v tried to implement the employee sample from Oracle Online Mobile Studio (studio.oraclemobile.com). The sample name is employee.jsp. This sample combines XML code with JSP.
    (code at the end of the text)
    When I test the sample I get no query results.
    When you take the first option for example, (search by dept number) the query result will not be displayed. I think it has something to do with the "executeQuery" line.
    rset = stmt.executeQuery("select * from EMP where EMPNO='" + empNum + "'");
    After giving the following input (employeenumber) 7369 (which excists in the
    database). I get the following errors:
    The panama server log returns the following error:

    Does this have something to do with the encoding of the query result in the select statement? As you can see the variable is in the requeststring (URL = http://host/portal/test/employee.jsp?&empNum=7369)
    My database connection works fine (I've also tested the query using SQL plus and the SQL adapter also works).
    Is this the right statement?: ("select * from EMP where EMPNO='" + empNum + "'");
    I can not do anything with the error in the jserv.log (java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column name).
    The columnname EMPNO excists in the example table. The query in SQL plus gives a result.
    Can someone give my any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Is EMPNO really a string field and not a numeric field? Your query is like
    ... where EMPNO='1949'
    and should it perhaps be
    ... where EMPNO=1949
    ?

  • SQL Query (PL/SQL Function Body returning SQL query) doesn't return any row

    I have a region with the following type:
    SQL Query (PL/SQL Function Body returning SQL query).
    In a search screen the users can enter different numbers, separated by an ENTER.
    I want to check these numbers by replacing the ENTER, which is CHR(13) || CHR(10) I believe, with commas. And then I can use it like this: POD IN (<<text>>).
    It's something like this:
    If (:P30_POD Is Not Null) Then
    v_where := v_where || v_condition || 'POD IN (''''''''||REPLACE(''' || :P30_POD || ''', CHR(13) || CHR(10), '','')||'''''''''')';
    v_condition := ' AND ';
    End If;
    But the query doesn't return any rows.
    I tried to reproduce it in Toad:
    select * from asx_worklistitem
    where
    POD IN (''''||REPLACE('541449200000171813'||CHR(13) || CHR(10)||'541449206006341366', CHR(13) || CHR(10), ''',''')||'''')
    ==> This is the query that does't return any rows
    select (''''||REPLACE('541449200000171813'||CHR(13) || CHR(10)||'541449206006341366', CHR(13) || CHR(10), ''',''')||'''')
    from dual;
    ==> This returns '541449200000171813','541449206006341366'
    select * from asx_worklistitem
    where pod in ('541449200000171813','541449206006341366');
    ==> and when I copy/paste this in the above query, it does return my rows.
    So why does my first query doesn't work?
    Doe anyone have any idea?
    Kind regards,

    Thanks for the help.
    I made it work, but via the following code:
    If (:P30_POD Is Not Null) Then
    v_pods := REPLACE(:P30_POD, CHR(13) || CHR(10));
    v_where := v_where || v_condition || 'POD IN (';
    v_counter := 1;
    WHILE (v_counter < LENGTH(v_pods)) LOOP
    v_pod := SUBSTR(v_pods, v_counter, 18);
    IF (v_counter <> 1) THEN
    v_where := v_where || ',';
    END IF;
    v_where := v_where || '''' || v_pod || '''';
    v_counter := v_counter + 18;
    END LOOP;
    v_where := v_where || ')';
    v_condition := ' AND ';
    End If;But now I want to make an update of all the records that correspond to this search criteria. I can give in a status via a dropdownlist and that I want to update all the records that correspond to one of these POD's with that status.
    For a region you can build an SQL query via PL/SQL, but for a process you only have a PL/SQL block. Is the only way to update all these records by making a loop and make an update for every POD that is specified.
    Because I think this will have a lot of overhead.
    I would like to make something like a multi row update in an updateable report, but I want to specify the status from somewhere else. Is this possible?

  • Query referencing session state not consistently returning data

    Hi,
    I have a form that summarizes expense data by category for employees, per fiscal year, fiscal period, and project.
    Clicking on a button next to a particular category takes the user to a new page that should display the detail of those expenses, based on expense_code.
    The expense_code is passed via URL to the second page, and the query region for the detail has the following source:
    select exp_code, JRNL_ID_NO, DESCRIPTION, REFERENCE, CUR_PER_TRAN, CUM_YTD
    from fgspec_ac where exp_code between :P118_EXPENSE_CODE_FROM and :P118_EXPENSE_CODE_TO and project=:P114_PROJECT and fis_year=:P114_FIS_YEAR and fis_period=:P114_FIS_PERIOD
    :P118_EXPENSE_CODE_FROM and :P118_EXPENSE_CODE_TO are passed via URL, and the :P114_% fields reference data on the initial form.
    The problem is that when I click on the button to bring up the detail for the first time, the query returns no rows. If I return to the original form and click on the button a second time, the query the displays the required data. This behavior is consistent, regardless of expense category, fiscal period, etc. The first time I try to access detail, no records returned, but the second time, it works.
    I have used the 'SESSION' link to debug and view the session state in each case, and the results are IDENTICAL whether the query returns data or not. That is, all 5 variables contain the exact same data.
    Do you know what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Michelle

    Hi guys,
    Thanks very much for your replies. In fact, I have tried both methods. Yes, I am navigating from page 114 to 118, and passing values to page 118 from page 114 (ie: P114_PROJECT passes to P118_PROJECT, etc...). In my query, I have tried referencing both, with the same results.
    When checking values in session state (by using the 'SESSION' link), values from page 114 are available in both cases (when the query returns rows and when it does not). It is very strange behavior.
    I have been developing with HTMLDB for over a year now, and never seen anything like it!!! I will try loading this on HTMLDB.oracle.com, and see if it replicates, and if so, maybe you can have a look...............
    Thanks!

  • SQL statement with Function returns slow in Interactive Report

    I have an Interactive Report that returns well but when I add in a function call in the where clause that does nothing but return a hard coded string of primary keys and is compared to a table's primary key with a like operator the performance tanks. Here is the example:
    get_school2_section(Y.pk_id,M.pk_id,I.section,:P577_SECTION_SHUTTLE) LIKE '%:' || I.pk_id || ':%'
    I have the values hard coded in the return of the function. There are no cursors run in the function, there is no processing done in the function. It only declares a variable. Sets the variable, and returns that variable back to the SQL statement.
    I can hard code the where clause value to look like this:
    ':90D8D830A877CCFFE040010A347D1A50:8ED0BBFDEAACC629E040010A347D6471:9800B8FDBD22B761E040010A347D0D9A:' LIKE '%:' || I.pk_id || ':%'
    This returns fast. When I add in the function call which returns the same hard coded values, the page goes from returning in 1 to 2 seconds to 45 or more seconds.
    Why does adding a simple function call into the where clause cause such a deterioration in performance.

    So you are telling me that the where clause with a function call will NOT run the function on every row? Please explain that to me further?
    if you have code that is the following:
    select a,b,c from a_table where a > 2 and b < 3 and function_call(c) > 0You are telling me that Oracle will NOT call that function on EVERY row it tries to process in the select?
    Thank you,

  • SQL Statement that will retrieve data from 1 table with 2 conditions

    Hi,
    I have a table "hz_cust_site_uses_all" and I need to retrieve primary_salesrep_id but with the following conditions:
    IF site_use_code = 'SHIP_TO' then
    if primary_salesrep_id is null then
    GET primary_salesrep_id where site_use_code = 'BILL_TO'
    else
    GET primary_salesrep_id;
    Sample Data:
    cust_acct_site_id primary_salesrep site_use_code
    1111 1000 BILL_TO
    1111 1001 SHIP_TO
    How will I convert it in an SELECT SQL statement.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Diane

    Starting in Oracle 9i, you can use the case statement within an SQL statement. It has the functionality of an IF-THEN-ELSE statement.
    The syntax for the case statement is:
    CASE [ expression ]
    WHEN condition_1 THEN result_1
    WHEN condition_2 THEN result_2
    WHEN condition_n THEN result_n
    ELSE result
    END
    For example:
    Select case when site_use_code ='SHIP_TO'
    and primary_salesrep_id is null
    then
    (select primary_salesrep_id
    from hz_cust_site_uses_all
    where site_use_code = 'BILL_TO')
    else
    primary_salesrep_id
    end
    from hz_cust_site_uses_all;
    hope this help you

  • Error Code: 17410, SQL State: null - No more data to read from socket

    Hi,
    I got the following error "Error Code 17410" after executing some SQL in my production database.
    But the same SQL works well in my local test database.
    So I exported the production database from my customer enviromment, and imported it in my local server. Now I´m having the same 17410 error.
    So, now I have two databases, the first one works and the other one don´t.
    I tried to search at google about this error, but I´m not sure what´s the problem.
    Please, any idea?
    regards
    walter

    This seems to be a Bug.
    You'll need a metalink account to look at that. Sounds like it is fixed in version 10 and above.

    Please advice.

    Could you post the exception handler within the function.
    It sounds like you return -1 if you experience an error - it would be easier to determine the cause of the problem if you return the Oracle error details, E.g:
    EXCEPTION
       WHEN OTHERS THEN
          RETURN dbms_utility.format_error_backtrace;This will then return a meaningful error, identifying exactly what is causing the error to be generated.

  • CF8 cfquery multiple sql statements

    In CF8, when I run a cfquery against MS SQL 2005 with
    multiple SQL statements, the query return the result of the first
    statement not the last one as in CF7. The following code snippet
    will cause an error because myID doesn't exist in qry. I know I
    should set a "result" variable to get the identity key in CF8 but
    we have some sites deployed in CF7. Before all sites migrate to
    CF8, I would like to have a way to use the same code for both CF7
    and CF8 so I don't have to maintain two versions. BTW, I tried
    three datasourcr drivers: "Microsoft SQL Server", "Other" with
    JDBC, and "ODBC Socket" with SQL Native Client. All of them gave
    the same result. Please help. Thanks.

    Hi Alex Pai,
    Coincidentally, someone just asked a similar question
    here.
    So you might try searching the forums first. The query in the other
    thread is slightly different, but the answer is the same.
    Totally unrelated to your problem, but for SQL 2000/2005 you
    should use scope_identity(), not @@identity.

  • SSIS The parameterized sql statement yields metadata which does not match the main SQL statement

    Hi all,
    I'm getting the above error when trying to execute a custom lookup.  What I'm trying to do is lookup the minimum promotional price between date ranges.  The SQL executes fine in SSMS
    SELECT refTable.PRICE
    FROM ( SELECT MIN(PRICE) AS PRICE ,
    NAME ,
    ITEMRELATION ,
    FROMDATE ,
    TODATE
    FROM [dbo].[AllCustPrices]
    GROUP BY NAME ,
    ITEMRELATION ,
    FROMDATE ,
    TODATE
    ) [refTable]
    WHERE [refTable].[NAME] = ?
    AND [refTable].[ITEMRELATION] = ?
    AND ? BETWEEN [refTable].[FROMDATE]
    AND [refTable].[TODATE]
    but errors in SSIS?

    Apologies, totally forgot i posted a question on here.  I still haven't resolved this.  full error text is TITLE: Package Validation Error
    Package Validation Error
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Check SQL statement in BI

    Hi all.
    I've wrote some SQL statement against charcteristic Master Data table in Transfer Routine to get the result for attribute value. It seems to me my SQL statement doesn't work. Is where any transation/tool in BI to run/check SQL statements ?

    hi,
    you can always check the syntax after writing a routine.Also, you can put a break-point and debug to check the behavior of the code.
    Can u explain in more detail, what is the Statement that is giving problem?

  • SQL statement with LIMIT and total count?

    Hello,
    I would like to know if it is possible to execute a single SQL statement that will return me a subset of data (for pagination purposes) that not only includes the subset of data for the page but the count of all available data. Can this be done so as to not take up the cpu and time it takes to essentially run two queries? One to get the subset and one to get the count? I think simply doing a subselect is not going to give me what I want in that we actually query twice.
    There may be no way to do this other than that, but I wanted to check with the gurus here first. :)
    Thanks,
    Mark

    BUT of course it adds additional row in execution plan and takes additional time and CPU :)
    I assume that it directly depends of course on returned result set and some other factors like available sort space but a simple test case on a table big which actually is 1.6 M rows like dba_source got following results:

    I want to run a simple sql statement to get some data in my Controller or AM.

    Hi,
    here you have an example I use to call a function in a package (note how you can pass parameters and read results):
    Connection conn = this.getOADBTransaction().getJdbcConnection();
    OracleCallableStatement ocs = null;
    String param = null;
    try {
            String stmt = "BEGIN :1 := <PkgName>.<FunctionName>(:2); end;";
            ocs = (OracleCallableStatement)conn.prepareCall(stmt);
            ocs.registerOutParameter(1, OracleTypes.CHAR);
            ocs.setString(2, <param>);
            ocs.execute();
            param = ocs.getString(1);
         } catch(SQLException se) {

         finally {
             try {

                    return(param);
