SQL2008R2 new named instance in existiong cluster as a new resource.
Hello everyone.
I'm trying to find out the best way to install a new named instance of a SQL2008R2 server in clustered environment.
The current windows cluster is a 2 node cluster and contains the DTC and 2 Named SQL Server instance:
MSSQLSERVER(Default) Network name: Clust1
Example1 Network name: Clust2
I need another instance but i want to reach it through the MSSQLSERVER's SQL Network Name.
In the end I need to be able to connect to the default instance with Clust1 and the new instance with Clust1\New.
Is it even possible to install SQL server not as a cluster service, more like inside a service as a new Resource?
Hello,<o:p></o:p>
Thank you for your reply.<o:p></o:p>
I want to create the installation on both nodes,
so when a failover occurs on the Clust1 SQL cluster, both the default and
the new instance fails over and starts up at the new node.<o:p></o:p>
I tested the standalone installation method, the
problem is that it won’t show up as a resource in the cluster service.
I have to add it manually?
No,what you are suggesting cannot be attained by standalone installation you need to add new instance in cluster aware mode. That would be your third instance in cluster which would require new disk ,IP for data files and Virtual name respectively.MSDTC can
be shared.

Hi,
I tried to add an new wls instance to a cluster, but after I added the new one,
all the triffic goes to the new one. I have to restart the old instances. After
I restart everything is fine. I am in wls7.0sp1 with IIS proxy. Thanks
The IIS plug-in is supposed to do round-robin. I assume your settings have other
servers and if so it sounds like a bug. LEt's know what you hear.

The NEW-RECORD-INSTANCE Trigger will work only when the cursor moves to that record.
write in the POST-QUERY Trigger of the block.

We are getting ready to migrate from server core 2008 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on an iscsi san to server core 2012 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on a new iscsi san.
I've been searching for a "best practices" article for this but have been coming up short. The information I have found either pertains to migrating from 2008 r2 to 2012 r2 with failover cluster volumes on the same hardware, or migrating
to different hardware without failover cluster volumes.
If there is anyone out there that has completed a similar migration, it would be great to hear any feedback you may have on your experiences.
Currently, my approach is as follows:
1. Configure new hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on new SAN with new 2012 r2 hostnodes and 2012 r2 management server
2. Turn off the virtual machines on old 2008 r2 hyper-v hostnodes
3. Stop the VMMS service on the 2008 r2 hostnodes
4. copy the virtual machine files and folders over to the new failover cluster volumes
5. Import vm's into server 2012 r2 hyper-v.
Any feedback on the opertain I have in mind would be helpful.
Thank you,
RobHi Rob,
Yes , I agree with that "file copy " can achieve migration.
Also you can try "copy cluster wizard " :

Coldfusion 10 Instance Manager can't create a new CF Instance
SO: SunOS 5.10 Generic_147440-12 sun4v sparc sun4v
CF: ColdFusion 10,282462
Hi,
I'm trying to create a new CF Instance and I can't. it holds on step 1
Enterprise Administrator - Creating New CF Instance
[step 1 of 2] Creating new CF Instance...
When I check in the coldfusion directory I can see the new directory. I did a comparison between the new folder and an old one. The only diff that I noticed I was that the new folder has only rw permission while the old one has rwx for the owner.
Does anybody has a clue about this? Thanks in advanced.Which user you used to create old CF instance and which user you are using to create a new CF instance?
Are there any difference among these users permissions & previledge, if using different users? -
We have a MSSQL 2008R2 Enterprise edition with a two node active passive fail-over cluster running on 2008R2 windows cluster with out any issues,
Now my question is can we add one more MSSSQL cluster instance for the same setup with out disturbing the existing one ?
Also give thoughts on load sharing as the second node is mostly ideal now except fail-over scenarios,
Why we go for this situation is because of the collation setting which can be set only one per instance(Database collation setting change not working), we need a different default collation for the new setuphi,
>>Now my question is can we add one more MSSSQL cluster instance for the same setup with out disturbing the existing one ?
Yes it is possible .You need to add new drives as cluster aware and install SQL server and put data and log files on thse drives.YOu would need to create named instance of SQL server and need to create different resource group. Both old installation and new
onw would work separately.
>>Also give thoughts on load sharing as the second node is mostly ideal now except fail-over scenarios,
Good point indeed. You are about to create Multi instance cluster and should plan for scenario where one node is down and other node is handling load for both instances.Memory and CPU should be enough to handle the load.
>>Why we go for this situation is because of the collation setting which can be set only one per instance(Database collation setting change not working), we need a different default collation for the new setup .
Just for collation if you are installing new instance seems little wierd to me.You can manage collation at column ,database and at server level.

SQL2008R2 cluster w/ several Named Instances -- shared storage best practice?
Planning four node SQL2008R2 cluster; three named instances. Each named instance requires exclusive use of a drive letter on shared storage. Does the names instance need all it's files (data, logs, tempdb) on that exclusive drive? Or can
it use a drive shared by all 3 instances. E.g. U:\SQLBackup\<instance-name>\...
Thanks,
Bob
You will need at least one drive for each instance + 1 one for cluster Quorum (unless you go for fileshare).
My recommandation would be:
Instance1
E:\SQLDataFiles
F:\SQLLogFiles
G:\SQLTempFiles
Instance2
H:\SQLDataFiles
I:\SQLLogFiles
J:\SQLTempFiles
And so on. If you are considered that you might run out of drive letters you could make a single Drive letter pr. instance and then attach the 3 drives as mountpoints into this drive. That way you will save 2 letters pr. instance.
As for just using one single drive pr. instance with all 3 kinds of files: Don't go there - the performance gain of splitting then into 3 drives as laid out above, is at least 50% in my experience. Remeber also to format the sql drives with NTFS blocksize
of 64K

SSAS 2012 (SP2) - Connecting to a Named Instance in a Failover Cluster
I posted this question some months ago and never got a resolution...still having the same problem. (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/4178ba62-87e2-4672-a4ef-acd970ac1011/ssas-2012-sp1-connecting-to-a-named-instance-in-a-failover-cluster?forum=sqlanalysisservices)
I have a 3 node failover cluster installation (active-passive-passive) configured as follows:
Node1: DB Engine 1 (named instance DB01)
Node2: DB Engine 2 (named instance DB02)
Node3: Analysis Services (named instance DBAS)
Obviously, the node indicated is merely the default active node for each service, with each service able to fail from node to node as required.
Strangely, when I attempt to connect to the SSAS node using the cluster netbios "alias" (dunno, what else it would be called, so I apologize if I am mixing terminology or somesuch), I am only able to do so by specifying the the alias _without_ the
required named instance. If I issue a connection request using an external program or even SSMS using Node3\DBAS or Node3.domain\DBAS, it appears that the SQL Server Browser is offering up a bogus TCP port for the named instance (in my case TCP/58554), when
in reality, the SSAS service is running on TCP/2383 (confirmed with netstat) -- which if I understand correctly after much, much reading on the subject is the only port that can be used in a failover cluster. In any case, I'm puzzled beyond words. As I think
through it, I believe I've seen this issue in the past, but never worried about it since it wasn't necessary to specify the named instance when I had SSAS requirements... It's only a showstopper now because I'm finalizing my implementation of SCVMM/SCOM 2012
R2, and for some strange reason the PRO configuration in VMM gets all butthurt if you don't offer up a named instance...
Thank you much for reading. I appreciate any help to get this resolved.
POSSIBLY NOT RELEVANT...?
I've properly configured the SPNs for the SSAS service (MSOLAPSvc.3) and the SQL Browser (MSOLAPDisco.3), with the former mapped to the SSAS service account and the latter to the cluster "alias" (since it runs as "NT AUTHORITY\LOCALSERVICE"
as is customary) and have permitted delegation on the service and machine accounts as required. So, I'm not getting any kerberos issues with the service...any more, that is... ;) I'm not sure that's important, but I wanted to be forthcoming with details to
help solve the issue. When connecting to SSAS in a cluster, you do not specify an instance name. In your case, you would use the name of the SSAS IP address to connect.
See:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn141153.aspx
For servers deployed in a failover cluster, connect using the network name of the SSAS cluster. This name is specified during SQL Server setup, as
SQL Server Network Name. Note that if you installed SSAS as a named instance onto a Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC), you never add the instance name on the connection. This practice is unique to SSAS; in contrast, a named
instance of a clustered relational database engine does include the instance name. For example, if you installed both SSAS and the database engine as named instance (Contoso-Accounting) with a SQL Server Network Name of SQL-CLU, you would connect to SSAS using
"SQL-CLU" and to the database engine as "SQL-CLU\Contoso-Accounting". See
How to Cluster SQL Server Analysis Services for more information and examples. -
Hi Techys,
Please give me the better option for the below scenario.
Scenario::
I would like to Build a new sharepoint server with recently created MS-Sqlserver2008r2 named instance. and also I want the same data(Features and solutions) which i used in previous SharePoint farm.
Desc:: We have a SharePoint 2010 farm with SP2. MSSQLSERVER is the default instance.
now i want create a same SharePoint 2010 farm with MSSQLSERVER2(Named Instance)
If you need any Information, plz let me know.
Many Thanks,
Madhureproducing environments is difficult... lots of settings... the AVAILABILITY of OUT OF THE BOX features can be configured just by running the install and using a key to match editions (std/ent)... but which features are enabled, how they're configured,
what customizations might be in place... not a simple checklist.

How to add new Java Instance to cluster in EHP1?
I've installed the EHP1 (Beta 3.0) on a Windows 2003 box, and have figured out how to use the
configtool to add server processes to the initially created Java Instance.
What tool or process do I use to go the next step and add additional Java Instances to the cluster?
Sorry if I've missed where the steps are already described, I've tried to find them.
WaltHi Dido. Thanks for your pointer.
When I started the installer, it gave me only the choice of the Developer Edition. Perhaps for this
EHP1 Evaluation Version the Productive Edition is not yet available??
The top line in the installer was "SAP Enhancement Package 1 for SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 SDN
Evaluation"
The only next choice was "SAP NetWeaver CE Developer Edition"
The two choices under this were "Custom Server Installation" and "Uninstall - SAP Systems or
Single Instances".
Will any of these choices allow me to add an additional Java Instance to the cluster?
Thanks for your help ...

Edited by: pugalendran p on Feb 2, 2009 10:43 AMHi,
Following solution might help you to resolve the issue.
Solution1:
Issue happens because universe connection to the Database is not responding and the Data Source Name is not configured to write SQL Server 2005 database.
Resolution
Created new DSN connection under SYSTEM DSN to SQL Server 2005 Database.
Import the universe from the designer.
Go to File->Parameters.
Edit Connection.
On the Database Middleware Page expand SQl Server 2005->Select SQL Server 2005 driver.
Change the DSN to new DSN connection
Test the connection.
Save the Universe and Export it to the repository.
Solution2:
I am taking Oracle as an example over here.
This can be caused when the SQLNET.ora is located in a remote location using mapped drives.
Resolution
To resolve,
check the registry [HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE] you should see a folder called HOME0
look for any paths that contain a mapped drive partition
Change the mapped drive letter to a UNC path (
server\folder)
Open a command prompt and do a tnsping using the tnsname and verify the location of the SQLNET.ora or TNSNAMES.ora
If the path is not updated to the new path
Reboot the server

When-new-form-Instance trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-04062
Hi,
We are facing ORA-04062 (FRM-40735 WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger raised unhandled exception ORA 04062) while trying to run the first form of our Application.
We are using a PL/SQL LIBRARY(.pll) for forms.
We are using 10G Application Server,10G DB and Oracle 9i Forms.
DB Version----10.1.0.4.0
Application Server--9.0.4.0
During compilation, we are following the below steps:
1. Compile the .pll
2.Compile Forms.
When we are running these compiled version of forms and pll in Development server where we are compiling it,we are not facing any error.
But when we are taking these compiled version of forms and pll to the Production Server,we are getting the above error.
When we are compiling the .pll in Production server, Application runs fine.
But we should not compile form or pll in Production server.
Searching in Metalink(Note:73506.1) , we find a solution that remote_dependency_mode if set to signature this problem may be resolved.
We tried that by chaning ' REMOTE_DEPENDENCIES_MODE=SIGNATURE' in Init.ora file in both Production and Development server.
But the error still persist.
I think the problem is regarding .pll.Because for the time being to test the application,I compiled the pll in Production and we didnot get any error while running the Application.
But whenever we are tring to deploy the compiled version of pll (compiling in Development sever) and to run the application in Production, we are facing the error.
Also, pll calls one standard database package in SYS.That standard package has VALID status both in Production and in Development.
We donot have priviledge to change/compile that package. So,we didnot change anything in that package. We didnot change anything in .pll also.
We are upgrading our forms from 6i to 9i.And now when we are trying to deploy it to Production we are facing ORA-04062 error.
Can anyone please help ?Exactly what procedure or package in SYS are you calling that causes this problem?
<p>Are both test and production databases at the same version?
<p>Do you know what procedure or package is named in the error? If not, then you need to improve your on-error trigger processing. I use a PLL_On_Error trigger to capture and improve a number of Oracle messages. It is posted here:
<p> Re: FRM-40735:Pre_Insert trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-20011
<p>Note especially the part near the end that deals with FRM-40735. (Not sure, but you may also want to display DBMS_ERROR_TEXT in your situation.)
<p>If that doesn't help find the actual problem, I would pull out my Re: Zdebug -- Download a Forms debugging message tool, and add messages before every call in the when-new-form-instance process to zero-in on the offending call.
<p>If it really IS a call to a system process, I would then experiment with creating a server-side package or stored procedure that calls the process, and then call that stored procedure from my form. That way, you effectively insulate your form from system differences. -
Named Instance in SQL Server 2000
We recently switched to SQL Server 2000 and are now having some
problems. Our SQL Farm set up named instances so we could take
advantage of active/active clustering. In doing this, they set up 2
Named Instances, and therefore both cluster nodes are identically
configured. To avoid a single point of failure, we'd like to take
advantage of the active/active clustering when we call into the SQL
Server 2000 database and not have to specify the exact port of either
instance.
Based on some information from a colleuge that is familiar with
accessing SQL Server from the MicroSoft environment, we should be able
to specify server=servername\instance:1434. This in turn would
determine the correct port for one of the instances and the driver
should handle forwarding our request to that instance.
Does the WebLogic driver handle this? If so, does anyone know the
proper syntax for the connection string?Hi. Our driver will only connect to a DBMS by being given it's
machine name and port. If there are two DBMSes on the one machine,
then they will be distinguished (only) by different port numbers.
Our driver will not automatically switch from one port to another.
