SRC Folder Flat files

Hi
I am looking for a column named Commodity Code from the EBS data base. After a lot of investigation, and in one stage we decided to do some customization for the column. But we find that column in the flat file named 'FILE_UNSPSC' in the src files folder. Now If at all I want some column name 'xyz' from EBS, If at all that column is in FLAT FILES format in SRC folder, Is there any process that we can check directly in what flat file this column is in, And I think Data Lineage is not 100 % accurate , Is there any other process.
Thanks in Advance

Now If at all I want some column name 'xyz' from EBS.If the column is source from eBS table then pull it from table no need to look at the src folder, make sure you are not using Universal folder.
And I think Data Lineage is not 100 % accurate 100% agree with you, to make 100% development suppose to be more accurate as per Informatica standards
Is there any other process.Not clear with Q but Manual process is the best (in general)
If helps mark

  • Flat file in http folder

    Hi,
    Is there anyway of downloading a flat file into a folder in some http address rather than the application server or local directory.
    Regards,
    Sukumar.

    You can run the VB script on any PC where the SAP Gateway and SDK have been installed.
    I am working on a project where we use vbscript and ASP to extract data from SAP and use it on the intranet.
    You can use the VB-Script in an excel or word document and also on a webpage. The example below I have used in a excel spreadsheet (use a macro to call the subroutine).
    I hope this helps you.
    Example below retrieves a list of vendors.
    VBScript to list vendors from SAP table LFA1
    Sub GetTable()
    'Logon
    Dim sapConn As Object 'Declare variant
    Set sapConn = CreateObject("SAP.Functions") 'Create ActiveX object

  • A question on ETL on flat file folder

    Hi,all, I am a student currently exploring Oracle Technologies.
    I used to use Microsoft SQL Server Integration/Analysis/Reporting Services. Wanted to achieve something like this too, using oracle.
    Had done some simple tutorial on owb for a day, I briefly understand the basics.
    Q:
    However, all the tutorial taught me on flat files was a single individual flat file, if I want to perform extraction on ALL the flat files in a particular folder, is this possible with OWB?
    Thank a lot!.

    yes, its available now, trying to learn it, thank guys.
    Another question: that I was pondering over about:
    I was always wondering what will happen to the data in table if I were to run the ETL process flow twice, what actually happens to the previous existing data?
    extra:
    What I was planning to do is, I have a folder is populated with new flat files everyday, I only want to extract these datas once and have them in the Cube/Fact table for analysis.
    Question is, do I have to move extracted flat files to another directory after process flow such that next time the process flow wont extract these flat files again?

  • Loading flat files from a folder

    hi,
    i'm new in O.W.B., want to know if there is a way to import flat files into OWB directly from a folder. that is, automatically, without having to import one at a time.
    thanks.

    Hi Francesco
    So the UI lets you import one at a time or say this file is the same as that file (if same number of columns). You can also configure an external table or flat file mapping to add many data files to be read for the one external table or flat file mapping.
    If you want to import the metadata into OWB by pointing at a directory and importing all of the files there automatically then you would have to script this up. I have written scripts in the past that read metadata from files (such as for fixed length files for example the Oracle Sales Analyzer/OSA product has such files) and generate flat file definitions and external tables. The metadata files describe the fixed length fields, both the positional and datatype information. With CSVs if the files have a header row with a name for the column, you could script some of this or default the names, but then the datatypes would also have to be inferred by analyzing or from some metadata that can be added.

  • Security with Flat files

    Hi,
    I have a webpage with many UI Elemnts such as LinkToURLs, TextViews whose content is got from flat files present in the src/mimes folder of the project.
    I need to keep the files secure so that no other person can change the details present in it.
    Please help me how to proceed as i dont have any idea rearding this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Padma Usha.

    Hi Usha,
    You are asking about the security in WebDynpro while editing the file context in the views ? or talking about windows file security ?
    If your question is on webdynpro, you can restrict the users from editing the files by using UME roles.
    Ex: If you have view to show/edit the file, depending upon the logged in user you can disable/enable the file from editing.

  • Error Extracting Essbase Product Dimension to a Flat File

    I am new to ODI and do not know how to troubleshoot this issue.
    I am trying to extract an Essbase Dimension (Product) to a Flat File.
    The source is Essbase Product and the Flat File is the Target. The target file is .csv.
    I have the fields to execute on Staging Area.
    When I click apply, I get an error stating: Target/Staging Area: You must set a IKM for the target.
    In the IKM folder I have the following:
    IKM SQL to File Append
    IKM SQL Hyperion Essbase (DATA)
    IKM SQL Hyperion Essbase (METADATA)
    I appreciate any help you can offer.

    Follow this and you should be able to get an interface to extract metadata from essbase - http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/2008/10/odi-series-essbase-outline-extractor.html

  • Standardize a flat file format w.r.t OWB

    Hi Pat,
    or anyone,
    Can u help me to standardize a flat file format with respect to OWB?
    I have 15 financial source systems. The client agreed in giving the data in csv format. Now I need to standardize the feed file so that it would be easy for me handle it in OWB. Please note depending on my standardization the client would give me the data and in turn it would be easy for me to handle it OWB External Tables. The records size for a single feed file is 1 million. So my questions are
    1.How should I standardize a date field in flat file?. Please note target date field is default date in Oracle.
    2.How should I standardize an address field? I.e. normally here I have 3 address fields. But I want the output in 1 field. What is the best possible methodology to do this? Or can I handle this issue in OWB front.
    3.How should I standardize a feed file name (generic)?
    4.How should I standardize a feed file folder (generic)? Please note the folder will reside in UNIX environment. The concept is, there would be respective folders in UNIX and the feed files would automatically fall into these respective folders in a fortnight basis. So what should I do to achieve this? I know I have to write a shell script for the automatic process. If so how will I do this and schedule it.
    5.And w.r.t above question, how will I tell OWB to go and fetch the files in those folders. I know it is done while mapping. But my question is Is that the only best way I can achieve it?
    6.If I left anything related to feed file, please tell me?
    Please note that based on my standardization, the client would extract the data and give it to me. So if I standardize the feed file which would be easy for me to handle it in OWB, then that would be a great success. And also note this is for a long run. Minimum 10 years.
    Regards,
    rem.

    Good afternoon Rem,
    It's all very theoretical indeed, talking about standards and all. I'll try to answer some of your questions according to my experiences.
    @1, Usually we load flat files into external tables using varchar2-fields only, occasionally number fields; dates however are always loaded into varchar2's and then when reading the external table into the staging area they are converted to Oracle dates using a simple TO_DATE transformation.
    @2, I don't think there's a real standard for that, it should simply meet YOUR needs, so when loading EXT into STG simply perform a transformation concatenating those 3 fields to form one.
    @5, you have to register the location where you have defined your flat files, this should be some Unix location; after that the connector between EXT and STG will know what to do when running the mappings from EXT to STG (thus: no other action is needed to 'tell OWB' where to fetch data from flat files).
    As far as I know there a no standards in naming conventions for files and folders, just go with what seems logical/practical in your situation.
    Regards, Patrick

  • How to load multiple flat files

    Hi,
    I am new to ODI 10, I have one requirement where I need load flat files containing the folder size11GB.
    I want to load them all in a single instances with using of single data server, single physical schema and single logical schema.
    How can we do this.
    Also to execute this in package what steps and precautions do we need to follow.
    Thx

    Is the data in your files the same format?
    If so, simply follow one of the many guides to looping around files that use a common structure to load them, you can do this in parallel if you want.

  • How to allow users to upload a flat file to BW

    Hi All,
    For a planning application I would like to permit our users to upload a flat file on their local desktop to the infopackage and execute the load.
    We would like to empower the users to prepare and upload their flat files into BW from their desktop without asking for BW support.
    Please let me know if any of you have followed this approach.
    Thanks
    Karen

    Hi,
    The possible steps..
    1. Create a small program and then give
    Selection Screen:
    FIle name : -
    Note: Ask users give always same file name i.e. xyz.csv
    Once user will give file name and execute it then file will save in Application Server (You fix the path like  /usr/sap/BI1/DVEBMGS00/work, you create seperate folder in Application server)
    2. Create a small Program with is using Events..
    REPORT  ZTEST_EV.
    DATA: EVENTID LIKE TBTCJOB-EVENTID.
    DATA: EVENTPARM LIKE TBTCJOB-EVENTPARM.
          EVENTID = 'ZEVENT1'.
          EVENTPARM = 'ZEVENTPARAM'.
    CALL FUNCTION 'RSSM_EVENT_RAISE'
              EXPORTING
                I_EVENTID                         = EVENTID
                I_EVENTPARM                  = EVENTPARM
              EXCEPTIONS
               BAD_EVENTID                            = 1
               EVENTID_DOES_NOT_EXIST       = 2
               EVENTID_MISSING                     = 3
               RAISE_FAILED                           = 4
               OTHERS                                    = 5
            IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
                     MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO
                     WITH SY-MSGV1 SY-MSGV2 SY-MSGV3 SY-MSGV4.
            ENDIF.
    3. Once user will upload the file in Step 1, then he need to run this Program,.
    4. You craetea Process Chain using this Event, then once User will run this program then the Data Loads will happen through Process Chain.
    Note: Eventhough this is lengthy process, it is protected 100%, because we are not giving any access to User, we just given reports/programs to execute.
    Thanks

  • How can we load a flat file with very, very long lines into a table?

    Hello:
    We have to load a flat file with OWB. The problem is that each of the lines in the file might be up to 30.000 characters long (up to 1.000 units of information in each line, 30 characters long each)
    Of course, our mapping should insert these units of information as independent rows in a table (1.000 rows, in our example).
    We do not know how to go about it. We usually load flat files using table functions, but we am not sure that they will be able to cope with these huge lines. And how should we pivot those lines? Will the Pivot operator do the trick? Or maybe we should pivot those lines outside the database before loading them?
    We are a bit lost. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Yes, well, we could define a 1.000 column external table, and then map those 1.000 columns to the Pivot operator… perhaps it would work. But we have been investigating a little bit, and we think that we have found a better solution: there is a unix utility called “fold”. This utility can split our 30.000 character lines in 1.000 lines, 30 characters long each: just what we needed. Then we can load the resulting file using an external table.
    We think this is a much better solution that handling 1.000 columns in the external table and in the Pivot operator.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to remove the date extensions from a filename in SSIS Flat File Connection Manager dynamically at run time

    Hello,
    I have to load data from a csv file to SQL Database. The file is placed into a directory by another program but the file name being same, has different extensions based on time of the day that it is placed in the directory. Since I know the file name
    ahead of time, so, I want to strip off the date/time extension from the file name so that I can load the file using Flat File Connection Manager. I am trying to use 'variable' and 'expression editor' so that I can specify the file name dynamically. But I
    don't know how to write it correctly. I have a variable 'FileLocation' that holds the folder location where the file will be placed. The file for example:  MyFileName201410231230  (MyFileName always the same, but the date/time will be different)
    Thanks,

    I don't want to use ForEach Loop because the files are placed by a FTP process 3 times a day at a specific time, for ex. at 10 AM, 12 PM and 3 PM. These times are pretty much fixed. The file name is same but the extension will have this day time stamp. I
    have to load each file only once for a particular reason, meaning I don't want to load the ones I already loaded. I am planning on setting up the SSIS process to load at 10:05, 12:05 and 3:05 daily. The files will be piling up in the folder. As it comes,
    I load them. At some point in time, I can remove the old ones so that they won't take up space in the server.  In fact, I don't have to keep the old ones at all since they are saved in a different folder anyways. I can ask the FTP process to
    remove the previous one when the new one arrives. So, at any point in time, there will be one file, but that file will have different extensions every time.
    I am thinking of removing the extensions before I load every time. If the file name is 'MyFileNamexxxxxxx.csv', then I want to change it to 'MyFileName.csv' and load it.
    Thanks,
    jkrish
    You WILL need to use it eventually because you need to iterate over each file.
    Renaming is unnecessary as one way or another you will need to put a processed file away.
    And having the file with the original extension intact will also help you troubleshoot.

    Figured it out, found similar post that stated changing the HEAP size
    Increase the page size in odiparams.bat in the bin folder and restart Designer.

    set ODI_INIT_HEAP=128m
    set ODI_MAX_HEAP=1024m

  • Updating Table using the data from a flat file

    Hi,
    I have a table called emp;
    Name,
    empno,
    accountno,
    amount.
    This table is filled with values of name and empno.
    The columns accountno and amount are empty.
    I have a flat file created in some folder.
    Contents of the flat file can be like this:
    mani | 23 | 123 | 1000
    spr | 22 | 342 | 2133
    asjf | 54 | 432 | 2345
    I need to access the file in the specified location, read all the records one after the other in the flat file and update the table "emp" with the values in the flat file.
    Row after row all the records in the file should be updated to the table.
    I found out some way to do this - its sqlloader - But it loads the data from a file to the table - i dont need that - i need to update the table.
    Let me know how this can be solved ?????????
    Thanks in advance.......

    Just to clarify Andrew's point, you can use external tables as the source table for an UPDATE statement. You cannot use them as a target for an UPDATE statement (i.e. you can't update the text file from an Oracle table).

  • XML data (Output) into a flat file

    I need to convert XML data into a flat file, which is having "|" as delimiter and ftp the same to a server. The XML data is an output of BPEL activity. The XML data is employee records. Each employee records should come as one line in the flat file.
    Is it possible to do this? if so, what will be the steps
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You need to use file adapter to write your XML payload as a flat file.
    Following are the steps to write XML payload into a flat file:
    1. Create a sample flat file and add few rows in which fields should be delimited with pipe symbol. See the record sample given below:
    Name|Age|Address|City|State|Zip
    Sam|32|2788 Viking Dr|Green Bay|WI|54304
    Here first row is the header row, you can remove the header row if it is not required.
    2. Create a file adapter service using adapter configuration wizard. Give file name and folder location where you want to write flat file. On step 5 of the adapter configuration wizard you have to define or select message schema. Click on Define Schema for Native Format button, then Native Format Builder Wizard will be opened, here you can define message schema for your flat file.
    2.1 Here you need to select Delimited for file type.
    2.2 Give details about your flat file, select your sample flat file here, which you have created in step 1 above.
    2.3 Click Next button twice and go to step 4, here give namespace and element names you want and click on Next.
    2.4 In step 5 you need to specify delimiters. Wizard doesn’t shows *|* as a delimiter so you need to enter *|* in the Delimited By combo box and click on Next button.
    2.5 Complete remaining steps and click on Finish in the wizard.
    3. Finish "Adapter Creation Wizard". Add BPEL activities (assign, invoke) to pass XML payload to file adapter and file adapter will generate *|* delimited flat file and write it to the given folder.
    See the following article for more details on Native Format Builder Wizard:
