SSIS From SQL To Oracle

Hello,
I just need to move data from 1 table in SQL to Oracle on demand. Is there an easy way to use SSIS package to achieve this goal without using link server?

Hi Frank,
Do you use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle? If so, it may be a known issue described in the article
Data Access Technologies Road Map:
Oracle ODBC and Oracle OLE DB: The Microsoft Oracle ODBC Driver (Oracle ODBC) and Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle (Oracle OLE DB) provide access to Oracle database servers. They are built by using Oracle Call Interface (OCI) version 7 and provide
full support for Oracle 7. Also, it uses Oracle 7 emulation to provide limited support for Oracle 8 databases. Oracle no longer supports applications that use OCI version 7 calls. These technologies are deprecated. If you are using Oracle data sources, you
should migrate to Oracle-supplied driver and provider.
So, please use the Oracle OLE DB Provider and check the issue again.
Besides, the issue has been fixed in SQL Server 2012. If you are using SSIS 2012, make sure the Run64BitRuntime property of the IS project is set to False if you have only 32-bit Oracle driver installed.

  • Migrating from SQL to Oracle 9i on Linux

    Hello
    I need to know where can I find information on migrating database from
    SQL to Oracle - 9i on Linux.
    Are there any tools available for this.
    Thanks & Regards
    Prakash
    [email protected]

    Prakash,
    At the moment we recommend running the Oracle Migration Workbench on Microsoft Windows and connecting to the Oracle 9i server by Oracle networking (sql*net). We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause. The released Oracle Migration Workbench for linux is an old version and the current version on Microsoft Windows is much improved. I am not clear what you mean by SQL, the workbench supports migration from products by Sybase, Microsoft, Informix, IBM and MySQL, see the support and plugin download web pages for database product names and version numbers, of the databases to be migrated from.
    I hope that helps,

  • Dataporting from SQL to Oracle

    I m facing problem to port data from MSSQL to Oracle through Export wizard of MSSQL. The wizard is doin porting in Oracle, but when I am selectin any ported object in Oracle, its givin error:'object or view doesn t exist'.
    Any one have solution?

    You could always check ifthe tables do exist & who are their owners by
    select * from user_tables
    and then enclosing the table name in quotes like "table_name" should work.
    The other round about way could be copy these created objects to another tables and then use the copied tables.
    Thanks

  • URGENT: Migrating from SQL to Oracle results in very poor performance!

    *** IMPORTANT, NEED YOUR HELP ***
    Dear, I have a banking business solution from Windows/SQL Server 2000 to Sun Solaris/ORACLE 10g migrated. In the test environment everything was working fine. On the production system we have very poor DB performance. About 100 times slower than SQL Server 2000!
    Environment at Customer Server Side:
    Hardware: SUN Fire 4 CPU's, OS: Solaris 5.8, DB Oracle 8 and 10
    Data Storage: Em2
    DB access thru OCCI [Environment:OBJECT, Connection Pool, Create Connection]
    Depending from older applications it's necessary to run ORACLE 8 as well on the same Server. Since we have running the new solution, which is using ORACLE 10, the listener for ORACLE 8 is frequently gone (or by someone killed?). The performance of the whole ORACLE 10 Environment is very poor. As a result of my analyse I figured out that the process to create a connection to the connection pool takes up to 14 seconds. Now I am wondering if it a problem to run different ORACLE versions on the same Server? The Customer has installed/created the new ORACLE 10 DB with the same user account (oracle) as the older version. To run the new solution we have to change the ORACLE environment settings manually. All hints/suggestions to solve this problem are welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Anton

    On the production system we have very poor DB performanceHave you identified the cause of the poor performance is not the queries and their plans being generated by the database?
    Do you know if some of the queries appear to take more time than what it used to be on old system? Did you analyze such queries to see what might be the problem?
    Are you running RBO or CBO?
    if stats are generated, how are they generated and how often?
    Did you see what autotrace and tkprof has to tell you about problem queries (if in fact such queries have been identified)?

  • Retrieve a range of records from SQL query Oracle

    I want to retrieve range of rows in Oracle database. This is the table structure:
    CREATE TABLE ACTIVESESSIONSLOG(
      ASESSIONID VARCHAR2(30 ) NOT NULL,
      USERID VARCHAR2(30 ),
      ACTIVITYSTART TIMESTAMP(6),
      ACTIVITYEND TIMESTAMP(6),
      ACTIVITY CLOB
    /This is the SQL command that I use to get rows from the table:
    SELECT * FROM ACTIVESESSIONSLOG WHERE ROWNUM >= 5 AND ROWNUM <= 10 ORDER BY USERID ASC;When I rum it no data is displayed. What is the proper way to get only 5 rows from the database?
    Best wishes
    Peter

    Is this SQL query valid?I tend to say no: ORDER BY is applied last, so your rownum is not in correct anymore:
    SQL> select rownum, ename, empno from emp order by empno
        ROWNUM ENAME           EMPNO
             3 SMITH            7369
             4 ALLEN            7499
             5 WARD             7521
             6 JONES            7566
             7 MARTIN           7654
             8 BLAKE            7698

             2 SCOTT            7788

            13 FORD             7902
            14 MILLER           7934
    14 rows selected.You either use analytic ROW_NUMBER() as in my previous post - or you need to nest once again:
    SQL> select rn, empno, ename
      from (select rownum rn, ename, empno
              from (  select ename, empno
                        from emp
                    order by empno))
    where rn between 4 and 5
            RN      EMPNO ENAME
             4       7566 JONES

    sir i need result in this format 01:00 not in 1 format.The name is Billy and not "sir". :-)
    Is "01:00" a string format or an elapsed time format?
    The number that the above code returns is decimal hours. So a number value of 1.5 means 1h30m or 1:30 or however you need to render that.
    And that is the question. Is this a rendering issue? Must the result be rendered in a specific format?
    If so, then this is not a SQL or PL/SQL issue. The server returning decimal hours is acceptable. The client (e.g. C#/Java code) needs to decide how to format and render this meaningful value. Keep in mind that if the sever code returns "1.30" or "1:30" for example, these are string/text data and pretty much meaningless. And it does not make sense for server code to return meaningless text strings to the client.
    If the client expects a duration and not a numeric data type, then the server code should return a value of the INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND data type.
    This data type specifically exists to contain duration values between to dates or times.
    In this case, the server code will expect the host (C#/Java) variable to be of data type INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND. The server code will look something as follows:
    SQL> declare
      2          earlyleavers    interval day to second;
      3  begin
      4          earlyleavers := NumToDSinterval(
      5                                  (to_date('1900/01/01 11:00:00','yyyy/mm/dd hh24:mi:ss') -
      6                                  to_date('1900/01/01 10:00:00','yyyy/mm/dd hh24:mi:ss') ) * 24,
      7                                  'hour'
      8                          );
      9
    10          dbms_output.put_line( to_char(earlyleavers) );
    11  end;
    12  /
    +00 01:00:00.000000
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL>An interval-to-string conversion function is used (with default formatting) to "print" the interval value via DBMS_OUTPUT. The default format includes days and a sign to indicate a positive or negative interval. Look at the SQL Reference manual for the format masks that can be used.
    The important thing is to treat data values correctly using the most appropriate type. And intervals should either be a decimal day/hour/minute numeric type, or an actual interval type.

  • Reading milliseconds from Sql server into oracle 10g

    Hi,
    We have a very time sensitive pressing requirements to be addressed immediately.
    We need to read the date time column from sql server 2008 into oracle 10g.
    We have a dblink established between the two servers and have tried to use sql server and sql native client 10 driver to read the dates from sql into oracle.This we are able to do very successfully.
    The issue is in reading milliseconds stored in sql server.The millisecond part comes in as 00000 from sqlserver to oracle.These milliseconds are needed to identlfy the unique records.
    For instance
    SQL SERVER Oracle
    source_id source id
    01/01/2012 6:30:35:456 01/01/2012 6:30:35:000000.
    Im issuing my query through Toad via Oracle to remote sql server using a dblink which connects using HS ODBC connection to sql server 2008(remote).
    We have no control over sql server Db as this is remote third party DB.We just have select access to their tables to bring into our own oracle DB.
    Any insight or help will be much appreciated.

    Hi,
    Could you please send the following information -
    - what version of HSODBC are you using ? Is it a 10.2 version ?
    - what is the SQL*Server datatype of the column you are reading ?
    - from Oracle could you issue -
    describe sql_server_table@hsodbc
    - what is the Oracle datatype shown for the column ?
    Could you also run your tests using SQLPLUS instead of TOAD ? We don't support TOAD and need to know if the problem also happens when using SQLPLUS, to avoid it being a TOAD problem.
    Also, 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and you should be using the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) which is a direct replacement for HSODBC. To use DG4ODBC your RDBMS needs to be at 10.2.0.4 or higher and DG4ODBC should be installed in a completely separate ORACLE_HOME from the existing 10.2 install.

  • SQL to Oracle Migraton - Unable to create source model in Migration Workben

    We are trying to use Oracle Migration Workbench utility to transfer data from SQL to Oracle. when we start creating the source model we get the following error :-
    failed to load source model ora-01401 inserted value too large for column.. this is the error at the ss2k_syslogins table. this is a logical model creation from sql server db.
    In case if this is a data issue with the syslogins table/view, is there any way to overcome this or whether we can do any settings at Workbench Level to overcome this..
    Thanks in advance,
    John.

    I think I figured it out.
    1 - I used the Migration Work Bench that came with the 9.2.0.1 client - BAD IDEA.
    2 - I down loaded the OMWB (10.x) - GOOD IDEA. I also downloaded the plugins so that the versions would match each other. Get rid of any existance of the 'old' OMWB directory under the OracleHome, so as not to get confused.
    3 - I realized that you just extract the OMWB.zip file to the C: drive like some third world DOS application, so it won't show up in under your start menu.**
    **I find this kinda cheesy that the Oracle installer is not involved here to add it to the Oracle Configuration and Migration menu in start up. I suppose you can copy the unzipped struture over top of the existing clint directory structure, but still dumb.
    3 - The other odd piece, you down load the plugin as a zip (and not a jar), BUT DON'T UNZIP IT!! Rather place it in the ..\plugins directory, underneath wherever you unzipped the OMWB, and RENAME IT with a .JAR extension (again don't unzip).
    4 - Make a shortcut on your desktop to the omwb.bat file (from where ever you unzipped the OMWB product)
    5 - Fire up that icon and the product will look at the new .JAR in the plugin folder and 'tada', you have OMWB with your specific database plugin available.
    The new product didn't hang for me. Now I just need to figure out how port this into a shema name OF MY CHOSING, and not the generic OMWB_Login1 that it created.
    I f anyone has info on that, let me know.... I think its in the destination creation (step two of the whole process).

  • SSIS Package Runs OK Manually But Not From SQL Server Agent...Permissions?

    I have a problem where I have an SSIS package (SQL Server 2005) that won't run properly from SQL Server Agent, but it runs fine when kicked off manually from Integration Services -> Run Package or when run in debug from Visual Studio.
    The first step in the package checks for the existance of a file via a script task.  The script looks like this...
    Code Block
    Public Sub Main()
    Dim TaskResult As Integer
    Dim ImportFile As String = CStr(Dts.Variables("BaseDirectory").Value) + CStr(Dts.Variables("ImportDirectory").Value) + CStr(Dts.Variables("ImportFile").Value)
    If Dir(ImportFile) = "" Then
    Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Failure
    Else
    Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
    End If
    Return
    End Sub
    This script runs fine and the file is seen as expected when I run the package manually.  But as a step in a SQL Server Agent job, it doesn't see the file.
    The SQL Server Agent service is set to start up / log on as a Local System Account.  I've also tried setting up a credential / proxy (using an account that I know can see and even move / rename the file) to run the job as but that didn't seem to help.
    The package is being run from SQL Server (stored in MSDB) and is set to rely on SQL Server for sensitive information, so I don't think that's an issue; other packages are set up like this in terms of sensitive data and run fine.
    Any ideas why my script can't "see" the file I'm looking at when it's kicked off by SQL Server agent?  I've looked and looked...I can't seem to figure this out.  I would really appreciate any help you might be able to offer up.

    If the variables are fine, then I think it is very likely that this is security related. Since the Agent is running under the local system account, have you verified that the local account can access the file? When you tried the proxy account, are you positive that it was set up properly, and that the account had the permissions to read the file?
    Another thing to check - is this a local file or is on another computer? If it is on another computer, make sure you are using a UNC path and not a mapped drive.
