  • Multiple Convert/Dump and Load tasks in a single SSIS package?

I'd appreciate some input. We have a single data file that has about 1,000,000 rows of data spanning 28 time periods in the columns across each row. The file is too large to import at one time, and so we have created 9 different transformation files to pull subsets of the timeperiods using MVAL. The end user does not want to have to break apart the file and/or schedule 9 separate imports to bring this file in each time. So, I've attempted to create a single SSIS package that runs each of the 9 required component imports, but I'm running into the following error any time that I try to run more than one import at once:
An error occurred while running a packageException of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
I've tried using a ForEach loop to simply loop through each of the transformation files and run an import for each transformation file it finds. But, I understand that SSIS doesn't release memory until the end of the ForEach loop, which would explain an out of memory issue. I then broke it out and specified 9 distinct Convert task and 9 distinct Dump and Load tasks in the package with an order of Convert 1 --> Dump and Load 1 --> Convert 2 --> Dump and Load 2, etc. This results in the same out of memory issue any time I enable it to run more than 1 convert/dump & load task in the package - they are not running simultaneously, but rather sequentially. I don't understand this. In looking at the logs, it looks like it's creating the temp files for the first import and adding them into BPC, and then creating the temp files for the second import but then fails prior to the second load. This will work for a smaller data file, but shouldn't the memory be released after the task and allow subsequent tasks to complete? Any recommendations on how to address this and automate this load?

Quick update - I created unique ssis packages for the distinct imports and called those packages from within the initial package that is kicked off through Data Manager, and I ran into the same out of memory issue. Any ideas, suggestions, or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • SSIS Package to load multiple excel sheets using foreach loop container

I am creating a SSIS package which is accessing an excel file and then using a Foreach loop container to load each tab to sql server. However when I try to configure the Excel source, I get the following message
"The argument system_comobject cannot be converted into parameter type. Additional Information - Object must implement iconvertible (mscorlib)"
Any help to resolve would be much appreciated.
    thanks
    Scott

If the title is only using column D and the rest of the columns are empty on sheet1/row1
    AND
    if only sheet1 as headers,
THEN you can try something like the following
do NOT select row 1 as header or anything.
In your foreachloop > dataflow, you will start with EXCEL connection then Conditional Split inside which you will define one case for which expression should be like If column D has value like "Title expression" && Column A == "Column A Header
name" THEN yay or nay. You might want to look into
FINDSTRING function to assist with this (if you choose to use FINDSTRING, you are looking for !isNull for this case..If it finds the string you are looking for, it will pass an int value (title + header) if it doesn't find the string, it will pass
NULL (data)) or you can say If Column A, B, C,E,F,G...is NULL and D is NOT NULL && Column A = Column A Header string, then Case 1 else default.
The default output would be the real data.
So when sheet 1 is processing, you will have Case 1 output with 2 rows (title + header) and Default output with the rest of the rows (real data).
For other sheets, you will have Case 1 output with 0 rows (no title + header) and Default output with the data rows.
The above sln assumes that the data in each sheet is similar in datatypes and length perspective, you have defined input/output datatypes properly, and etc.

  • SSIS Package Load Failure and is missing Execute SQL Task in Toolbox

Also, BIDS closes after right-clicking the toolbox and selecting “Choose Items”.
I’ve tried several ways to fix these issues with no success.
I’m running SSIS/SSMS/SQL Server 2008 R2 (but not running an SQL instance on my PC) on a Windows XP with Service Pack 3 workstation. I get the following errors:
    WHEN OPENING BIDS:
I get 2 errors titled “Package Load Failure”. They both reference ‘Visual Studio Explorers and Designers Package’ as being what failed to load. The first message references GUID 8D8529D3-625D-4496-8354-3DAD630ECC1B. The second references GUID AA612177-A69A-4391-B2F4-17F8A88F4BBA
. They both mention contacting the package vendor, but I haven’t got any Add-ins loaded so I’m not sure what that means exactly. They also both ask if I’d like to skip loading the package in the future.
    ONCE BIDS IS OPEN:
No error messages appear here. There is no ‘Execute SQL Task’ in the toolbox for Control Flows. Also, if I attempt to open a project containing this object (Execute SQL Task), I get this error in a modal window:
    TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio

    The package might be corrupted.
See the Error List for details.

Finally, when I attempt to add the Execute SQL Task via the Tools menu, “Choose Toolbox Items” selection, I do get the tabbed box for adding things. However, they only come up after issuing this error:
The following assemblies are installed SDK assemblies but could not be shown in the customize toolbox dialog because they are missing one or more components. Please make sure that all necessary libraries are available:
    Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlCEDest.dll
    Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.CollectorTasks.dll
    Microsoft.SqlServer.SQLTask.dll
    System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
    Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
(above dll repeated at bottom of message)
After this message, I have my choice of .NET Framework Compnents. When I select COM Components, those come up with no problem. The WPF Components tab generates the same dll error above. The Maintenance tab is empty. The SSIS Data Flow Items tab loads fine,
as does the SSIS Control Flow Items tab – but there’s no Execute SQL Task there either.
If you open the toolbox (on a new project, with a project loaded, or without a project loaded) and right-click, then select “Choose Items”, the entire application quickly closes. This “closing behavior” is the same thing you get if you attempt to add toolbox
items through either the Tools menu or the right-click method when you launch BIDS in SafeMode.
    In an effort to fix this – I’ve rolled back the .NET Framework version to 3.0 and reinstalled back up to 4; I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled SQL Server 2008 R2 shared services as well as the entire application; I’ve cleared the .tbd files from my user profile;
and I’ve run several things from the command line (devenv.exe /resetuserdata, /setup, /resetskippkgs, etc.). Lastly – I’ve applied every Service Pack and update applicable to my PC (ok, it belongs to my employer – but no one here has been able to figure this
    out either).
After having worked this for several days now and, I think, exhausting every available avenue from search engines – I turn to you. Please let me know if you can help. Also, I can provide any additional
files or information you may require.

  • How do I load an SSIS package created in Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) onto SQL Server 2012 using SQL Management Studio 2012

I am fairly new to this whole process of working with the Microsoft development environment.  Here is what I have to work with:
an NT server running Microsoft SQL 2012  - Microsoft SQL Server Standard (64-bit)  11.0.2100.60
and on my laptop (all freebie downloads):
SQL Server Management Studio 2012            ver 11.0.2100.60
Visual Studio 2012 Express  for Desktop Development and
    Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
I was able to create an SSIS package in
2012 Shell (Integrated).  It takes a flat file and imports it into an SQL database table.  It runs successfully from within the
    2012 Shell (Integrated) envrionment.
But I am having trouble figuring out how to set this up on the 2012 SQL Server.  I see that one of my colleagues created an Integration Services Catalog,
and using SQL Management Studio I was able to create a folder under that called DigLic.  But when I go to the Projects subfolder of DigLic and attempt to import my SSIS package, I get an error message:
"To launch the Integration Services Deployment wizard, one of the components: Integration Services, Management Tools - Basic or Business Intelligence Development Studio has to be installed by the SQL Server
2012 Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation Edition.  To install a component, run SQL Server Setup and Select the component name"
I realize that Express Versions of Visual Studio lack the full feature set of a professional version.  But am I wrong in assuming that owning a server version of SQL Server 2012 gives us license to a professional
version of SQL Management Studio 2012?  If so, how would I go about getting this software component installed?  And I am not clear if this is something that needs to be installed on our SQL Server or if I simply need a professional version of SSMS
    loaded on my laptop.
I work for a company that is fairly fractured in its repsonsibilities, so I would need to know exactly what to ask for if I need to track down any licenses that I might need and if I need to have any specific software installed on our SQL server or on my
    laptop.
All helpt would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Arthur,
Thank you for your reply.  But at this point, one of my points of confusion is what software I have available to me.  I wish I had a useful central help desk to call up and just say, "Hey, load me up with all of the professional version(s) of Visual
Studio.  But I do not know what we have license to.  And I kind of need to know what the options are, so that I can ask a specific question of our vast buracracy.
For now, I have downloaded only free versions of Visual Studio client software.  Since my company does have servers running Microsoft SQL Server, I am going to assume that we have proper licensing for those servers.  But does that server license
allow me to get any professional versions of the PC client software for the various Visual Studio(s) 2012?
And if I get a professional version of Visual Studio 2012, does that do away with the three different flavors that I have right now?  I have 2012 versions of SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio Express, and Visual Studio Shell (Integrated).
    Your feedback is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • SSIS package to order all the CSV files based on their date of creation/modification mentioned in a filename and load the least recent file in oracle Destination

    HI,
I need a help for creating SSIS package which has flat file source (specifically , delimited csv files) which are placed in a shared folder
    having file names as  File_1_2015-04-30 08:54:13.900.csv, File_2_2015-04-30 07:54:13.900.csv.
So, I wanted to use foreach loop to find out the oldest file amongst that(through script task) and need to transform that file in Oracle Destination. After that, I want to archive that file and need to continue this action uptil the most recent file gets
    loaded in destination.
So, Could you guys please guide me?
    Thanks in advance

I'd say you need two loops, one to cycle through all the files and collect their names. Then sort them based on your criterion
Perhaps you can start by seeing http://www.sqlis.com/sqlis/post/Looping-over-files-with-the-Foreach-Loop.aspx
Collect the file names into a Recodset Destination, then shred it http://www.sqlis.com/sqlis/post/Shredding-a-Recordset.aspx
perhaps you need an outer loop to iterate over each file to compare the files for dates.
Do each piece and post here where you needed to stop.

  • When migrating ssis packages from 2005 to 2012 Activex Script Task component doesn't exist in 2012 version

    Hello,
We are migrating the ssis packages from 2005 to 2012.
I'm unable to convert Activex Script Task from 2005 vesrsion to 2012 because in 2012 version Activex Script Task doesn't exist.
Can anyone please let me know what is the alternative way to convert Activex Script Task from 2005 vesrsion to 2012?

    Hi Vinay9738,
Have you tried to upgrade the SSIS 2005 packages to SSIS 2012 packages by using the SSIS Package Upgrade wizard? In certain cases, ActiveX script in SSIS won’t work and we need to either modify the script or replace the ActiveX Script with stock SSIS
tasks. You can find the mapping between some most common patterns used in DTS ActiveX Script and SSIS native tasks from the following link:
    http://help.pragmaticworks.com/dtsxchange/scr/ActiveX%20Script%20Task.htm
Here is also a useful link about how to convert ADODB object of ActiveX Script to SSIS tasks:

  • SSIS package with OData connection - can't connect

I need to read some data from a SP list. I have the OData connection manager setup. When I test the connection to my sharepoint site, it says it's successful. I added in a data flow task and then an OData Source. In the OData Source editor, I select the
Odata connection manager. I want to use a collection. However, it says "Unable to load collection for the connection Odata Source, reason: Cannot open this connection"
Anybody know how to resolve this?

    Hi kayla,
Just as you said, the current
SharePoint List Adapter that extracting and loading SharePoint Data in SQL Server Integration Services supports x86/x64 systems using SQL 2005 / SQL 2008 / SQL 2008 R2/ SQL 2012. It doesn’t support SQL 2014. Maybe we need waiting the update.
    The
OData Source component can be used to read data from SharePoint lists in SSIS 2014. Please download and install the 64 bit ODataSourceForSQLServer2014-amd64.msi or 32 bit ODataSourceForSQLServer2014-x86.msi from the
    Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Feature Pack.

    Hi Katherine,
I did install that already. I added the OData source to my SSIS package. The odata connection manager successfully connects to the sharepoint site. However, when I use the data source in the Odata Source within the Data Flow, it gives me the "cannot
open this connection" in the Collection list within the Odata source editor. I'm stumped as to why the connection manager has a successful test connection, but the collections don't pull up. Does the list need some special permissions? I'm able to access
it directly on the sharepoint site and add items (the odata connection manager is running with my windows credentials)

When I execute SSIS package from BIDS data is loading up to Fact table. When I execute SSIS packages through Sql server agent ( Using File System Deployment)When I execute SSIS package from Sql server agent it is throwing an error message like

  • Song Pop doesn't load anymore.  Do I have to clean the cache?  If so, how do I do that?

I have a Mac Book Pro.  I have been playing Song Pop for about 6 months.  However, just starting today, Song Pop doesn't load.  The record on the title page of Song Pop just keeps spinning.  I saw someplace online that I might have to clean the cache.  Is that so?  If so, how do I do that?  Thank you.

    Hi Mike,
Just as Hsbal said, we can use a connection string for ODBC, so that we don’t have to pre-create the DSN on the systems that will be running the SSIS package.
Please note that most of the Source can use a connection string without DSN. Please use the correct connection string based on the source. For more details, please refer to the following document:

  • SSIS Package Not working

    Hi
We have SSIS Package in which all the tasks in control flow are connected with "Completion Precedence".
Ideally it should execute all the tasks irrespective of failed or successful execution of any of the task. And this works as expected from BIDS.
But when package is scheduled from SQL Server Agent job (Single step), it doesn't execute next task (Execute SQL Task) if there is failure with any of the task before that (Execute
SQL task) even though they are connected with Completion precedence.
We have several Execute Package tasks which call child packages to load the data and all are executed in parallel.  There is one Execute Sql task at the end of one of the Execute Package
task (Connected using completion precedence) which calls stored procedure to do some cleansing activities.

I have now enabled the log and it seems that Execute SQL Task was executed but it didn't take any time to execute. Job started at  5:44:42 AM and ended at  5:44:42 AM. It logged the event Preexecute and PostExecute both at the same
time 5:44:42 AM but data was not updated through the SP but no Error event logged. Again when I ran SP anually it worked fine and updated data. SP Takes somewhere around 2 mins to execute.

  • Unable to upgrade SSIS packages to SQL Server 2014

    Hi there,
I'm trying to upgrade our SSIS packages from SQL Server 2012 to 2014 (in Visual Studio 2013).  The wizard pops up the minute the project loads and I leave everything to default.
It errors immediately though on almost every package with the following error:
Error 0xc001000e: MyPackage: The connection "{5F69F91E-8CD7-49A7-A76A-815244411037}" is not found. This error is thrown by Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found.
That connection is a project connection manager and most definitely exists.  In fact, I can open the individual package and it upgrades it for me and the package is completely fine.  It seems to me that the upgrade wizard has a bug whereby it doesn't
    look for project connection managers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I might just post it to connect as a bug.

I was able to fix it using the following steps:
Open project, "Upgrade Package Wizard" opens automatically
Select all packages, click next, some packages will fail. Ignore them, close wizard.
Open every package. A message says "Package was upgraded" for each package.
Save every package, save solution, close solution
Open the solution again. This time no "Upgrade Wizard" opens, upgrade was successful
Deploy the solution to SSIS server (my project already had package configuration)
This is what worked for me, I hope it'll help others.

  • Occasional "Unexpected Termination" of SSIS packages

    Hi,
We're using SSIS 2012 version 11.0.3381.0 and we have master packages run via SQL Agent jobs. A few times a month a master package will end with "Unexpected Termination" shown in the SSIS All Executions report, causing us the headaches of
fixing this production issue with our loads. No errors are returned for the packages, just "Unexpected Termination"
Also there is nothing showing up in any of the server logs for the SSIS server - checked the System, Application, or Security event logs. No errors, no warnings, nothing.
This does not occur at the same time of day, it varies within our nightly load window. It doesn't occur on a specific day of the week or have any other commonality that I can spot that might lead me to some other related event.
I've searched for other similar scenarios and haven't found anything that applies. Any ideas out there?
    Thanks!

Another thing is AntiVirus, I had just had one individual reporting a similar issue where a file created by a package was so large it took a while to scan and the package just died due to locks. Check with Process Explorer.
And there is a possibility for a connection to close forcefully on the package - some sources do that for long connections.
So I'm not creating files with my package, I'm loading data to a database on a different server, so file size and AntiVirus should not be a problem.
Also I normally get an error when a connection is closed forcefully or lost by any other means. In this case there is no error just a final status of "Unexpected termination" again with no errors reported and nothing in any of the logs on the server.
We have over 100 packages that run, and only 2 are currently failing with this error, and they only fail about one day in 10. Also these are two very small loads compared to the other data we deal with, and all those other loads are running fine.
