SSIS XML Source not importing data

ISSUE:
I'm working from a complex xml schema.  The issue I'm having is that the xsd passes SSIS XML Source validation, I'm able to create each table from its connections, but on import it executes and succeeds but w/o importing any data.
FILE DETAILS:
The xsd is not generated from the xml file.  It is provided by a client to guarantee that it covers all possible relationships. I understand that I can create an xsd in the SSIS XML Source but exporting a full data set each time there is a schema change
and then creating a new xsd file is not ideal, nor does it guarantee that all relationships will be correctly generated.
The Schema version does match the XML version (which is a bit suspect since I can still run xml files on the old schema w/o error)
QUESTIONS:
1. I have been unable to find an answer as to why this happens.  Can anyone shed light on why the data is ignored?  I've read that it's not an uncommon occurrence but have not season an answer on why.  Getting an answer to this is probably
the most important.
2. My Options?:
a. I am not proficient in C# so i cannot script the import, plus there are over a 100 tables currently being generated. So I am ruling this out
b. This is my most likely approach: I will create an xsd from a large data set and then manually adjust any inconsistencies I find.

Thank you Arthur
I previously tried testing w/ DataViewer.  The issue is that no rows are retrieved or inserted so there is no data to view.
When I was referring to the versions I was really meaning each new release.  These are important if there are element changes.  Regardless, it does not seem to have an impact.
And I understand the problems w/o having concrete examples.
I found this article noting the issue and providing documents that should create the same issue. I did not test his documents since I know what the issue looks like.
But it's back to question #1 in that I have not been able to find any articles stating why.  I would greatly appreciate any insite.
Here is the excerpt:
"In the below example, I am using sample "purchase order" and "customers and orders" XML files which can be downloaded from the MSDN
site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb387034.aspx andhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb387025.aspx respectively.
I also downloaded related XSD files at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd489284(v=vs.110).aspx and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb675181.aspx.
Both of these XML files are moderately complex with several layers (or nested) values. Unfortunately, as an XML file's hierarchy structure and complexity increases, often times the supplied XSD file do not parse and load the data correctly. Often
the load will occur without error, however no data is transferred. Thus, the Generate XSD button will need to be used to generate a new XSD file to be used for importing. The Generate XSD process works well most often, but you may need to adjust it for
special cases within your XML file."

  • Using SSIS XML Source failing / renaming a node element

    hello
I have tried to use SQL Server SSIS XML Source reader to load a file from one of our data providers to SQL Server however the reader fails with the following error:
The XML Muni File was unable to process the XML data. The element "default_status" cannot contain a child element. Content model is text only.
it seems that for some reason the reader fails to identify when the node and its child here labeled "default_status" have the same nomenclature.
I am reaching out to anyone with a solution for this - or a way to write an SQL XML script that renames the children of that node to "default_status_id" for example. then we can use the out of the box reader to load the file.
any ideas suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

you dont need to use SSIS here
    you can simply use this
    declare @x xml='<instrument_details>

    <default_status_date>2013-12-24</default_status_date>

    <maturity_amount>10650000.0000000</maturity_amount>
    </maturity_details>
    <denomination_amounts>
    <min_denom_amount>5000.000000</min_denom_amount>
    </denomination_amounts>
    </instrument_details>'
    select t.u.value('(maturity_details/maturity_amount)[1]','decimal(10,2)'),
    t.u.value('(denomination_amounts/min_denom_amount)[1]','decimal(10,2)'),
    m.n.value('default_status[1]','int'),
    m.n.value('default_status_date[1]','datetime')
    from @x.nodes('/instrument_details') t(u)
    cross apply u.nodes('default_status')m(n)

I think, u can't bind the system table system columns to the column of the matrix in the form which is bound to the same table.(though, m not sure on this.) service call is by default bound to OSCL. If u try creating a user defined column in OSCL and then bind it, it works. but, if CallId is already bound on form, and u r bnding it one more time, it will give you error.

  • SSIS "XML Source Adapter" can't make XSD location an expression

I am using the "XML Source Adapter" in an SSIS package.
I notice that although you can specify the XML filename as an expression, the XSD appears to have to be a fixed file path.
This is a problem for me since the path for the XSD is different in my development than it will be in production (in production it's on drive E:, which I don't have).
I'd like to have the file location specified in the config file, but since I can't make it an expression how can I do that?
Also, since they don't have Connection Managers I can't switch DelayValidation on.
    Thanks.

    Hi John,
    Here is my pevious post
I have about 400 xml files with me and all this data has to be loaded in about 30 tables, Basically have 30 different varities of xml files and matching 30 xsd files. We were trying to load all this using "Data Flow Task" and "XML Source".  Using
FOR Each Loop passing appropriate XML File and XSD to Data Flow task and load it in one shot. Rather than having 30 different Data Flow tasks. Is there any other way, we can accomplish this task using a loop and dynamically passing the different files.
You have suggested to follow the URL
There's some example code here for package generation here:
    http://sqlsrvintegrationsrv.codeplex.com/releases/view/17647
Everywhere I see, they are suggesting to use Flat File or Excel data examples. Do you have any posting that can help me to use XML file as a dynamic input file for XML Source.
If anyone has any code samples how we can use XML files as dynamic source for XML Source task to import data into SQL Sever, that would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Dynamic XML PDF not importing fields

I have a PDF developed in Livecycle and saved as a dynamic XML.
My database is MS Access and from this I've exported a query saved as an XML file, a XSD schema and an XSL stylesheet. (files attached)
I'm trying to populate the PDF from the above mentioned files client-side. I have the fields set up to display in a table with repeating rows.
It seems that I've set everything up okay and I get no error generated in the log file when I preview the PDF in Livecycle, but, the fields are not
    being generated.
I suspect maybe this is because I don't have the nested forms set up properly for a flowed subform. But I should get at least the first row generated
shouldn't I, if it is reading the nodes in the XML?
Attached is (a mock-up) of the PDF along with the XML, XSD and XLS. This form should flow to other pages when dynamically built and I'm hoping to
display the header on each page (the header will be on the Master Page -- it will contain site links, etc.)
I hope to not only import data to a PDF this way but also to export fields from the PDF in the same way for database edits...
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong in the attached?
And, on another note... do all of the above need to be in the same folder together on the server or can I put the PDF in one folder and the XML, XSD
and XLS a different folder? (Or the PDF and XLS in the same folder and XML and XSD files in a different folder, etc.)...
Thanks for any reponses on this.

Sorry for the delay in replying to this post. I got stuck at a friend's from the weekend snow we had... and am finally back on my own computer.
Just before leaving Friday I found the problem with the form not displaying data fields read from the XML.
It's a bit embarrassing to admit but, per Steve's instruction here to change the form preview properties (file/form properties) (thanks, Steve!) - I changed the preview from 'print one-sided' to 'interactive' and noticed that I had not set up the link to the XML under 'Data File'. Duh! So, it is reading the data from the XML now.
However... For the form to display, I had to (under 'connection properties) take the XSLT file off. Under 'Connection Properties' the form is set up as XML Schema with the link to the XSD set up.
The problem now is that a few of the dynamic fields are numbers. These number fields in the database only have two digits to the right of the decimal point (as in 93.79) but when the form loads these fields in the table in preview mode these fields contain 8 digits to the right of the decimal point (as in 93.79362082). I don't know why this is except that maybe it is because it's no longer reading from the XSLT file. All I want it to do is read the field exactly as it is in the database...
The table on the form doesn't display as it should either. The table expands with the rows its presenting but this runs to the very bottom of the page and doesn't flow to the next page. I've tried changing the size of the 'root' form on the Master page as well as the size of the 'parent' subform of the table subform but the table still runs to the bottom of the page... I'll keep playing around with this until I fix it unless someone can point me in the right direction...
Thanks for any leads on this...
    (new corrected file attached)
Graham, this stuff really is interesting! These handful of files working together to build a dynamic PDF, reading the database XSD schema, an XML file and the XSL file as well as throwing in some Javascript functions is really cool... I'm also (hopefully) planning to have Cold Fusion query the database, depending on the login person's admin privilages, parse the fields from the database and build the XML file from this data 'on the fly' at login... Quite a lot going on in the background here to build the PDF! (I wish I could answer your question about the stylesheet but, obviously from the above, I'm a novice at this - I'm new at this and trying to grope my way around this stuff in the dark. These forums have been helpful as well as googling questions, but, there is still a learning curve here. I'm pretty rough with Javascript as well and that's a big feature of this stuff...)
Thanks to anyone for direction on getting this file to display properly and the number fields to show the same as in database...

  • ES4 RenderPdfForm not Importing Data

We have a custom Workbench ES2 application that has been installed on our new ES4 instance. The application receives xml data that conforms to a form's schema. In the application the "RenderPdfForm" widget uses the xml data as input to populate the form. This works as expected in our ES2 instance. However, the same application running in our ES4 instance does not import the data and a blank form is returned. • Health app not importing data

I have the Health app connected to UP (for steps and sleep), Withings (for weight, BMI, heart rate) and Lose It! (for calories and other nutritional data). It is importing the steps from UP just fine, but it will not import anything else. It used to import sleep from UP, but that stopped on Oct. 8; it used to import weight, but that stopped on Oct. 22. It never imported anything from Lose It.
I am running the newest iOS and the newest versions of all of these apps (including the new UP 4.0, released today, and others on UP's message boards report their issues have resolved with the update - not mine). All of them appear to be connected to Health - that is, under Sources they are all there and 'turned on,' and each of the individual apps' settings shows them as exporting to Health.
    Anyone have any fixes? Ideas?

    EdHDC,
I'm sorry that I don't have a fix for your issue, but I did want to mention that if you end up in a scenario where you get things working and find that you have data prior to your fix that doesn't automatically get imported in, we have released an app specifically for importing data into HealthKit / Health App.  It requires data in a CSV (comma separated value) format currently, but that is the format that most apps provide for their exported files.
The app is called Health Importer and more information is available on the App Store at:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/health-importer/id930943780?ls=1&mt=8
Hope it's a helpful tool for you or others who come across the post!

  • Data Flow | XML Source | Very Slow with big files (over 1/2 a gig)

    hi

Parsing XML files as data sources in SSIS is not the most efficient. Remember that you have define a WSDL (aka structure of the input file) and once the XML source starts parsing the input file, it has to read every node at every level and make sure it conforms
to the structure defined in the WSDL file before it can start streaming the data out to the downstream components in your workflow.
A half-gig XML file with 150 nodes to parse is going to need some heavy-lifting behind the scenes before you start seeing the rows streamed out. I'd rather recommend that you use either inbuilt .Net classes for XML to parse and extract the data or leverage
SQL scripting to accomplish that. Alternatively, if your upstream system can instead drop the data feed in a flat file format, that'd be more preferable. And if you could hook into their data streaming APIs/end-points directly, that'll work too.
Hope this gets you started in finding the right approach.

  • How to pull the root level XML tags in the XML source-SSIS?

    Hi All,
Can anyone please help out with the following requirement?
There is a XML file data which I need to pull it to database. Please see the attached XML file.
Question: When I am trying to pull the root level data (i.e. CreationDateTime and FileNumber) from XML source in the dataflow, the respective tag is not seen in the input. Can anyone help me how can I get those values in my input to pull the data to Database?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sri

    Hi Sri,
In SQL Server Integrated Services, we can generate XML Schema (XSD) file based on a XML file with XML Source Editor. For more details, please refer to the following steps:
Double-click the XML Source in the Data Flow Task.
Browse the XML file for the XML location.
Click the Generate XSD button to generate an XSD file.
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Converting an XML file to a DAT pipe delimited file

    Hi
I'm trying to create an SSIS Package which converts an XML file into a dat file which is pipe delimited.
I want the package to be generic so that once that minimal modification is needed when using for different files.
I've so far had no luck with this and need some help/assistance.
    All help fully appreciated.
    Thank you
    Umar Javed

The XML file can vary from fixed to variable.
for Fixed, i've done the same thing as you've suggested and parametrized the flat file connection manager.
For The XML source is there any way we can parametrize the location of the XML or XSD files?
For Variable, unfortunately due to restrictions we can not create an intermediate table and then export.
    is there any other way?
    Thanks
    Umar Javed
XSD path can be made dynamic as below
    http://picnicerror.net/development/sql-server/define-xsd-file-for-ssis-xml-source-using-expression-2012-04-21/
For variable you can even add them to configurations and then pass them from a file using xml configuration option.

  • Multiple xml sources - JSP

    Hi to all,
Ok this is my situation. I have XML data that is coming from servlets. I need to build a JSP page that will output the XML data, but from multiple servlets. Is there anyway to do this? I have XSLT that transforms the XML data, but it has to be linked at runtime, since the servlets only outputs the data (I need a clear separation between data presentation and the data itself)
Coul somebody she some light plz...
    Thanks

    Well, not exactly.
Let's say I have two HTML lists in my JSP page that needs to be outputted. Each of these lists get their data from different servlets. These servlets outputs the XML data. I have this JSP page that needs to take the 2 XML outputs (from each servlets), link the XML data with their respective XSLT file (dynamically!) and render it in HTML.
So I have multiple XML sources, not just one. That is exactly what I don't want because the XML data combinaison is irrelevant. I want to be able to use this output with other pages. (So joining the 2 sources is not acceptable)
    Thank you

  • How to import data from a text file into a table

    Hello,
I need help with importing data from a .csv file with comma delimiter into a table.
I've been struggling to figure out how to use the "Import from Files" wizard in Oracle 10g web-base Enterprise Manager.
I have not been able to find a simple instruction on how to use the Wizard.
I have looked at the Oracle Database Utilities - Overview of Oracle Data Pump and the Help on the "Import: Files" page.
Neither one gave me enough instruction to be able to do the import successfully.
Using the "Import from file" wizard, I created a Directory Object using the Create Directory Object button. I Copied the file from which i needed to import the data into the Operating System Directory i had defined in the Create Directory Object page. I chose "Entire files" for the Import type.
Step 1 of 4 is the "Import:Re-Mapping" page, I have no idea what i need to do on this page. All i know i am not tying to import data that was in one schema into a different schema and I am not importing data that was in one tablespace into a different tablespace and i am not R-Mapping datafiles either. I am importing data from a csv file.
For step 2 of 4, "Import:Options" page, I selected the same directory object i had created.
For step 3 of 4, I entered a job name and a description and selected Start Immediately option.
What i noticed going through the wizard, the wizard never asked into which table do i want to import the data.
I submitted the job and I got ORA-31619 invalid dump file error.
I was sure that the wizard was going to fail when it never asked me into which table do i want to import the data.
I tried to use the "imp" utility in command-line window.
After I entered (imp), i was prompted for the username and the password and then the buffer size as soon as i entered the min buffer size I got the following error and the import was terminated:

Please show me the easiest way to import a text file into a table. How complex could it be to do a simple import into a table using a text file?
We are testing our application against both an Oracle database and a MSSQLServer 2000 database.
I was able to import the data into a table in MSSQLServer database and I can say that anybody with no experience could easily do an export/import in MSSQLServer 2000.
I appreciate if someone could show me how to the import from a file into a table!
    Thanks,
    Mitra

  • Import data from xml using ssis

Using Sql Server 2012 STD edition, SSDT (Visual Studio 2010 shell, .net framework 4.0.3 SP1
I am trying to import data from an xml file using ssis.
Here are the three options I tried and none worked. Please see errors that I encountered in all options and let me know what I can do to import this data in sql
    server.
I created a new ssis project with an ssis package. I pulled a data flow task on the control flow. On the data flow tab I pulled an xml source and a sql server
destination. Now I tried to configure the xml source task in the the following three ways, but none worked.
    1. I browse the xml file to set xml location. Browse the xsd file to set xsd location, then click ok. I get the following error:
HRESULT errorcode 0xC02090CF from a method call. There was an error setting up the mapping. Undefined complex Type 'gml_V4.1_Release:PolygonType'
is used as a base for complex type extension
    2. I browse the xml file to set xml location. check "Use inline schema" Click ok. Error:
HRESULT errorcode 0xC020929E from a method call. The xml source adapter was unable to process the XML data. Multiple inline schemas are not supported.
3.I browse the xml file to set xml location. Click "Generate  XSD". Error: The supplied xml instance is a schema or contains inline schema. The
class cannot infer a schema for a schema.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi ,
I think something problem with the XSD file i too faced somewhat same problem, i have created XSD file from the following link and tried in my package it has worked why don't u try to create xsd file from following link and try again once.

  • SSIS XML Data Source - worked in BIDS, can't read XML in SSDT

I have an SSIS 2008 package built in BIDS (2008) that uses a series of XML locations (similar to
http://corpslocks.usace.army.mil/lpwb/xml.tonnage?in_river=AG&in_lock=42&in_mon_yr=092013) to get tonnage information and load it into a SQL Server 2008 R2 database. This has been running daily without error for over 60 days. I am now migrating
this to SSIS 2012 using SQL Server Data Tools and I am having difficulty reading the XML into the database.
The package does the following (it is pretty simple):
    1. read the URLs (there are 200) from a database view into a variable object
    2. a for each loop container that loops through the variable object, gets the data from each URL (the XML URL is stored as a variable) and loads it into the database
The BIDS package still works great. I first used the converter to migrate to 2012. I then recreated a package with exactly the same settings as BIDS. No dice either way. I also tried using a local xsd file, then using one inline. SSDT will recognize all
of the columns correctly when I use inline, but neither method is capable of reading the data into a table.
I know the package is going to the addresses, all of the URLs show up in the error logs. The error messages are as follows: "[Load data from tonnage url [47]] Error: The file "http://corpslocks.usace.army.mil/lpwb/xml.tonnage?in_river=AG&in_lock=42&in_mon_yr=092013"
was not found. Please verify the file path and try again."
Has anyone run into this and solved it? I think I have tried every possible setting available, with no luck. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I have an update on this issue. I believe it is a connectivity issue or possibly a setting in SSDT.
I can access the remote XML file location through my browser. I have downloaded the XML from the remote location and my package runs using the local XML file perfectly. I have BIDS 2008 installed on the same machine and it works without a problem (using
the remote XML location). This last piece makes me think there is a network setting or something in SSDT.
Does anyone have any additional troubleshooting advice or other suggestions? My error output is included below.
    Thanks!

  • SSIS XML Task: data from Variable Option NOT Working

    hi
    this is the scenario:
n number of XML files get delivered everyday
XML files need to be transformed using an XSLT transform
XML files get stored in table ImportedFile under XMLFile column (XML Type)
We then create a SSIS package that does the following:
we grab the data from the SQL server ImportedFile Table
dump the table in recordset destination
create a for each uploaded file loop that puts the xml in variable XMLValue
read the xml in the XMLValue with XML Source package
    package fails with following error
"[XML Source [2]] Error: The XML Source was unable to read the XML data. Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1."
below is a snapshot of SSI Job - any idea why this may be occurring ? is there a limit on the size of the xml ? is String the correct type ?

    Hi sandeepppp,
Currently, we can't repro this issue based on the information you posted above. What's your SSIS package structure?
As SSISJoost suggested above, please try to configure logging for the package so that we can get more detail information to troubleshoot this issue.
Note: SQL Server Integration Services includes log providers that you can use to implement logging in packages, containers, and tasks. With logging, you can capture run-time information about a package, helping you audit and troubleshoot a package
    every time it is run.
