SSRS 2012 excel export is still coming out as an xls not xlsx

Hello, All
I am pretty new to SSRS 2012 and trying to migrate existing SSRS 2005 reports to SSRS 2012 to resolve the limited record export function with classic excel format.
The server is using .Net Framework 2 application pool as below and it's not showing any page with .Net Framework 4.
I have migrated RDL files using SQL Data Tools and updated web.config and aspx pages too.

Also, Report Viewer 2012, 2010 and 2008 (all of them) were installed on the server.
I checked the RSReportServer.config file and it does have xlsx available and xls visible=false instead.
<Extension Name="EXCEL" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ExcelRenderer.ExcelRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ExcelRendering" Visible="false"/>
<Extension Name="EXCELOPENXML" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ExcelOpenXmlRenderer.ExcelOpenXmlRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ExcelRendering"/>
The target RDL file looks working fine with .xlsx file export in the SQL Data Tools(Report Designer) but it's not exporting xlsx file and trying to export classic xls and failed to generate more than 65536 records.
Can anyone help me with this issue?
Did I miss anything in the settings or something?
Your help would be much appreciated.

Hello,
If I understand correctly, Excel render format is working fine when you export RDL file, but cannot work for RDLC file.
RDL files are created by the SQL Server 2012 version of Report Designer. RDLC files are created by the Visual Studio 2010 version of Report Designer. RSReportServer.config file is control RDL file rather than RDLC file. Based on my test, in Visual Studio
2010, when we export RDLC file, Excel render format is .xls. You can try to use Visual Studio 2012 to test, if it can export .xlsx file.
In order to solve the excel limitation issue, please refer to the document below:

    Hi Vichu,
According to your description, you encountered the timeout issue when rendering your report. Right?
In Reporting Services, sometimes this issue happens when rendering big report, and it exceed the default Query Timeout time. Generally, we increase the Query Timeout and Session Timeout so that it will have more time to retrieving data.
In this scenario, since you have done this adjustment and the issue still exists randomly. We suggest you optimize the performance of your report. Please refer to the articles below:

  • SSRS Report - Excel Export - Timed Out issue

    Hi All,
I have a report which has around 10k records. I am getting Timed out error sometimes when I try to export data to excel. But, strangely this happens most of the time. But, sometimes, i am able to download the excel. I have even tried download .csv..its works
fine (i just tried couple of times).. I have even tried setting the Do not timeout report execution = true and even tried the other option of increasing the report execution timeout.
Is there any other option in Configuration files that I need to make the changes?
    Kindly help me.
    Thanks,

    Hello everyone,
It seems that we have a similar problem. Our configuration:
Report server 2008 integrated in SharePoint 2007 on a windows server 2008..
We have a report that doesn't work when it has to return to much data (when the render time is to long). We get an error in Sharepoint saying 'Unexpected error' when I make a big selection. However, this doesn't happen when I use the same selection for this
report in the SSRS native mode. The report will render for a couple of minutes then but wil return a result.
Here is the reportserver log for when I execute the report from the Sharepoint integrated mode:

  • SQL SSRS 2012 - Excel OpenXML Export Performance

    Hello,
Does anyone have details on what the Excel 2007 XML renderer is doing in Reporting Services and why it is taking 10 minutes to export and timing out as opposed to 30 seconds for CSV export or display in HTML?  The database shows 25k for Data Retrieval,
25k for Processing, 60 for Rendering so it appears it is outside of these metrics.
The report contains 40 columns and 40,000 rows, with some textual data.  The resulting XLSX is 10MB, or 100MB unzipped. There is no report or page header.  The report contains a tablix with just details group, and some minor formatting.  It
    is inside a rectangle.
I would expect @ 2-3 minutes to export, though getting better performance than this would be nice.
    Server is 11.0.3373.
Any suggestions or feedback on this issue and suggestions on presenting basically a formatted data dump in Excel to the customer would be helpful.
    thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi:
I getting below in export SSRS report in excel in Sharepoint. Please anyone can help
    Paramesh G

    Hi Paramesh,
Based on my understanding, you comes across an error when you export the report from SharePoint.
In your scenario, you should check ULS logs with the Correlation ID to see if anything unexpected occurred. If possible, you can provide the log for our analysis. About how to check the ULS logs, please refer to the articles below:

  • SSRS report Excel Export file size is huge

    Hello everyone,
I am facing an issue with SSRS report exporting  to Excel.
Issue : Exported file size is too big.
I have a matrix report ( parametrized report ) it fetches data from multiple table.
    initially when
    1) I select all parameters all values
    2) load the report after that
    3) exporting to excel
so exported file size was about 10 Mb to 12MB
Now, suddenly from this month exported file size is too big around 62 MB for same data,
I checked on different forums and tried the solutions but it didn't worked,
can anyone please suggest me on this.
    My environment is
    Visual studio (BIDS) 2008
    SQL Server 2008 R2
    Excel 2007
    Thanks

    Hi UdayKGR,
According to your description, when you export a report into an excel file, the exported file size is too huge. Now you want to reduce the file size. Right?
In this scenario, do you export the report into excel 2003 file? When reports are first exported and saved to Excel 2003, they do not benefit from the file optimization that Excel automatically applies to its *.xls workbook files. The larger file size can
cause problems for e-mail subscriptions and attachments. To reduce the size of the *.xls files for exported reports, open the *.xls files and then resave the workbooks. Resaving the workbooks typically reduces their file sizes by 40 to 50 percent. Also please
try to install the Reporting Services 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 and reduce the merged columns in exported excel file. For more information, please see the links below:

  • Exporting a flv: coming out of Media Encoder CS4 blurry

When I export a flv from Premiere CS4, in the Output plane of the Export Settings window, everything looks fine: crisp and sharp, exactly like the source. However, after the file shows up in Media Encoder, the output becomes blurry. Checking the settings in Encoder, they are the exact same as in Premiere, but in the Output plane, the image is now blurry (source is still sharp). How can I fix this?

The bitrate setting is 1400. When using CS2, I had the same setting, but everything was sharp. But in CS4, it no longer is.

But, for instance, my file size in RAW (22.65 MB) is scaling itself down to 684KB(JPEG) when i try to export or burn it to disk.
