SSRS Report running out of MS CRM

I have a large multi-page SSRS report that takes about 30 minutes to run. The report is run from CRM.
The problem is that because of the time it takes to run the report users have a tendency to go away and do other things, and when they come back to it later and go to the second page it has expired. It's fine if they go through the pages straight after the
report is complete.
Are there any settings that could control and increase how long the pages are available before they expire? Is this something to do with the IIS app pool timeouts?
SQL SSRS 2008, CRM 4.0, Server 2008. Separate Reporting and CRM SQL server.

To me it sounds like a session time-out issue.  Due to how long your report is taking to run your report isn't being kept alive long enough in cache (the temporary DB).  Here is a great article that explains it...
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jgalla/archive/2006/10/11/session-timeout-during-execution.aspx
If you have to adjust the session timeout and can't get the report to run any faster by tuning your query, with 2008 you might be able to adjust the session timeout more easily by connecting to the Reporting Services instance in SSMS, Right-clicking the
website URL and selecting ‘Properties’, then in the “Server Properties” window  select ‘Advanced’ from the list on the left and adjust the setting there.

  • SSRS reports running slow while fetching data from SQL server DB

We are currently facing issues with lots of our SSRS reports running very slow. Approx they are taking around 15-20 minutes compared to earlier which was 2-3 minutes.
Also, the SSRS reports which fetch their data from a Database is acting as Subscriber for a reporting server. That is we have an OLTP DB server whose Database say 'A' is getting replicated onto the server where say Database 'B'. On this B we have our SSRS
reports fetching the required data and are reported to be running very slow.
As a start I have checked for Index and stats to be properly updated and yes they are.
I am not sure now, from where to start analysing the issue.
I believe replication, not to be the issue as earlier also we had replication set up and never saw the slowness.
IS memory or IO causing a problem, please help as i am not sure on how to find a fix for this?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
You need to first find out what all are slow? Is it that the whole instance is slow? How about other queries /replication etc against those databases? Are they slow?
Check the reports which are slow, try to find the slowest reports and then start looking at execution plans. Check if there is any kind of blocking happening during the time the reports run. Also try running the reports manually and see if there is a difference
in execution time. Take a look at the waitstats during the time the reports are running.

  • SSRS report running very slow but query is very fast in SSMS

I am running a very basic report. I am just retrieving some data from a table and I am using a parameter in the Where clause of the query. The query runs fast (in less than 5 secs) if I hardcode the parameter in the SSRS query but if it's left as a dynamically
chosen parameter the query takes over 5 minutes to render. I have read a little about "Parameter Sniffing" but I am not sure if that applies to my case since I am only using a TSQL query and not a SP.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
PS: My query looks like below:
    Select Col1, Count(*)
    From Tbl1
    Where Col2 = @Para1
    Group By Col1
    KK

    Hi Kk,
Is your data retrieval takes time or report rendering takes time? Run this query in your report server database to get the above two. Select * From Executionlog2
Check the timings data retrieval time, processing time, and report rendering time.
    If data retrieval takes time,
Give some default values to filters (parameters).
    If parameter rendering takes time
Choose different options for parameter selection. Instead of multiselction of parameter, use like etc.
Let me know which causing this problem after running the SQL profiler or executionlog query so that I can help you more. Or you can use SQL profiler to check what query takes more time.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you get error while running SSRS reports.
Basically, If the Request Management service is enabled, it manages all incoming requests by evaluating logic rules against the user requests in order to determine what\which action to take and which machine or machines (targets) in the farm should handle
    the request.
By default the Request time out value for Request Management service are as follows,
    RequestTimeout                    : 00:01:40
    RequestExecutionTimeout       : 01:00:00
So the error throws from RM service for those reports who take more than 1 minute to generate the report.
To solve this issue, we can stop the Request Management service.
    Or increase the time out
value by making use of following PowerShell  script.
    $waUrl = "URLofWEbApp"
    $wa = Get-SPWebApplication $waUrl
    $rmSettings = $wa | Get-SPRequestManagementSettings
    $req=$wa.RequestManagementSettings
    $timeout2= New-TimeSpan -minutes 5
    Sreq.Requesttimeout=$timeout2
    $req.update()

  • Date parameter interchanges while running SSRS reports in CRM 2013 online

    Hi,
We have a 2 date parameters in a SSRS Report, While running this report a user is getting issue with this date parameter, date changes to month and month changes to date in the first parameter(in screen shot it is 01-dec entered but displays 12-jan) and
second seems to work fine but here time is also shown.
As a note: I am not getting the error when I run it.
Any one has got the same issue, Any suggestion/solution?
    Regards,
    Rekha.J

If this is happening to only one or a few users then I suspect some issue with the user's machine configuration.  Have the user log in and try it from your machine and see if he or she gets the same experience.  Ensure you have completely cleared
the user's cache and also try with a different browser like Chrome.

  • Problem running SSRS report on SharePoint 2010 - report renders rendomly

I have an SSRS master report that contains about 30 sub-reports. These reports are deployed to SharePoint 2010 server. Per my understanding these reports run independently of Reporting Server (execute directly from the cube/database).
It appears that this master report executes for about 10 minutes and then returns a blank page for most requests. Seldom it returns the master report consisting 30 sub-reports. I have checked Report Server logs using the following query and it shows no trace.
    Use ReportServer
select * from ExecutionLog3 order by TimeStart DESC
I set SharePoint 2010 logging to the lowest level and reviewed the log for the run-time of the report. This log shows that the report and sub reports are being executed, however it does not provide any significant error information. Follows a sample of what
SharePoint log contains for single sub-report execution.

    Hi Kenny,
    Thank you for your question.
From your description, you can to move the parameter pane from right to the top in the SharePoint site, right? I am afraid this cannot be done in SQL Server 2008R2 SSRS reports on SharePoint 2010 integrated mode. And this is a know issue which you can see:http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/545893/allow-ssrs-parameter-panel-to-be-formatted
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • How to run the same SSRS report multiple times, each time with a different parameter value?

    Hi,
I have an SSRS report that produces a list of invoices for a single supplier (so supplier is a parameter specified at runtime). The report is based on a stored procedure in SQL. I would like to make things easier and instead of going through all suppliers
one by one, I want to have a single action, which produces separate reports, per supplier, for all suppliers that have an outstanding invoice (so not all suppliers on the system as a whole but all suppliers that are within the result set of the stored procedure).
I assume this would mean first executing the stored procedure to find all suppliers that have invoices at the time. And then running the report multiple times, once for each supplier, where the supplier value is used as the parameter every time. ideally
this would open separate webpages with a single report per page. (I am creating a button in another software, which is simply launching iexplore.exe and passing a
    fixed SSRS report URL).
What would be required? I have SQL 2012 and I am building this in Report Builder 3.0.
    Thank you!
    Dimitar
P.S. What about still running ONE report, but every supplier starting on a new page? Is that more realistic? So supplier will not be a parameter any more, but just something that creates a new page on the report?

    What
about still running ONE report, but every supplier starting on a new page? Is that more realistic? So supplier will not be a parameter any more, but just something that creates a new page on the report?
Yes thats a much better option. Its very easy to generate such a report in SSRS. You dont need a parameter
in that case but just needs to add Supplier as a grouping field in the tablix. Then add other columns and groups if required. Select option set page break after each instance of the group for first grouping (ie based on supplier field). Then report will render
with one page per supplier. On exporting to excel also each supplier data goes to a different tab
Here's a similar requirement I did for one of my projects

  • Execute sp_executesql ... paramaterized queries coming out of SSRS Reporting Services

Looks like SSRS collects param values and sends the final query to SQL Server in a Paramaterized query.
That's what I found out .... when I did a SQL Profiler .... multiple select dropdown box with multiple values within itself...
    ie. in a dropdown
    ParamOption1 : checkbox + with param values ...... 101, 121, 155  or  '101', '121', '155'
    ParamOption2 : checkbox + with param values ...... 222, 456, 888 or  '222', '456', '888'
because...we are fooling the .. if the user checks the second option together with the first option then SSRS concatenates the values .... '101, 121, 155 , 222, 456, 888'     or with the other creative method ''101', '121',
    '155' , '222', '456', '888''
Here is the test table with the int param field :  create table testParams ( sParam int null )
    insert testParams ( sParam ) select 101
    insert testParams ( sParam ) select 222
we want to make this syntax work.... but cannot ... any help
execute sp_executesql N'select sParam from testParams where sParam in (@varParam),
    '@varParam varchar(400)' ,
    '@varParam = '101, 121, 155 , 222, 456, 888' '
    or
execute sp_executesql N'select sParam from testParams where convert(varchar(3),sParam) in (@varParam),
    '@varParam varchar(400)' ,
    '@varParam = ''101', '121', '155' , '222', '456', '888''
tried other string manipulations... with single quotes, etc.... nothing has worked.
Thank you for your help .... posting this to SSRS forum, too.... it must be a common scenario over there.... I know, there is a solution that is out there... because have seen SSRS Report Params being used this way.

    Hi Cornelia,
Please refer to Katherine's solution in the thread below regarding how to split multi value parameter and use it at SSRS report level:

  • SSRS report is consuming much more time to fetch data from DB even direct run SP takes less than a second

    Hi,
we are using SQL SERVER 2008R2 X64 RTM version.
One of the SSRS report designed by developer  is  consuming  much more time( 5 to 6 minutes ) to fetch data from DB. Even direct run of  Stored Procedure (Called in report )takes less than a second to display the result set.
    Please help.
    Regards Naveen MSSQL DBA

    Hi Naveen,
Based on my understanding, you spend a little time retrieving data with a stored procedure from database in dataset designer. However, it takes long time to run the report to display the data, right?
In Reporting Services, the total time to generate a report include TimeDataRetreval, TimeProcessing and TimeRendering. In your scenario, since you mentioned retrieving data costs a little time, you should check the table
Executionlog3 in the ReportServer database to find which section costs most of time, TimeProcessing or TimeRendering. Then you can refer to this article to optimize your report:
    Troubleshooting Reports: Report Performance.
Besides, if parameters exist in the report, you should declare variables inside of the stored procedure and assign the incoming parameters to the variables. For more information, please refer to the similar thread:
Fast query runs slow in SSRS.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • How to setup SSRS reports to run automatically

    Hi All,
I am completely new to SSRS.  I am currently using Visual Studio Premium 2013 version to develop my SSRS reports.
I've been reading many posts in regard to setting up SSRS reports to run automatically.
I can see on some answered posts that I can use subscription feature of SSRS by going to my report manager-->Select
your report--> goto properties -->Subscription tab.
My first dumb question as a newbie to SSRS is; how and where do I locate my report manager.
Thank you all for your help.

My first dumb question as a newbie to SSRS is; how and
where do I locate my report manager.

The "Report Manager" is a web interface to manage & access SSRS reports; see

  • Time Out Error in SSRS Report

    Dear Experts,
Am new in to SSRS .Am getting error while creating SSRS report With use of Stored Procedure . The Error " COULD NOT CREATE FIELDS A LIST OF FIELDS FOR THE QUERY ". when i see in the detail section , its showing that "Timeout expired.  The
timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
How to solve this. Any help appreciated
    Regards
    senthil

    Hi Senthil,
First try to execute the Storeprocedure in SQL server management studio, its really taking time to execute or not.
If yes, then please use the attached image to look for Timeout option where you can set the time.
If no, then try to set the query type as Text and
    write as Exec Storeprocedure
Second thing you must specify inside the Storeproedure as
    SET NOCOUNT ON
    Thanks

  • SSRS Report Report Blank Yet Generates Perfect PDF

I have a rather complicated SSRS report (basically a dashboard with multiple charts and tables) that I'm having some issues with. It generates fine in BIDS, but out on the report server is where things get weird.
On the report server it generates without throwing an error, but doesn't display anything, I just get a blank white screen. Yet I can export the report to a PDF, and in the PDF everything looks perfect (despite not having actually displayed
anything in the report manager after the report successfully runs!).
If I upload the report into our CRM 2013 app and run it, I get the generic "rsProcessingAborted" when it first runs, then if I hit "Try Again" on the error screen I get the "Invalid Argument"
    error.
I set the timeouts on the queries in the .rdl to an insane 20 minutes just to rule out a timing out issue.
Anyone ever seen something like this before, a blank SSRS report that doesn't throw an error yet still generates a correct PDF?

This appears to be a Chrome browser issue and unfortunately that's the browser my company insists on using. Just ran the report via IE and it worked perfectly. Chrome just cannot render the HTML correctly on very complicated reports it seems, as all my basic
reports worked fine in Chrome. Found this thread on potential fixes in the .js files on the report server. Not sure how that is going to play with the reports in CRM:
