SSRS reports in text format
hi
how can i save a report in text format using ssrs 2008 R2
Hi Gourav,
By default, SQL Server Reporting Services render a report to .CSV File Extension with CSV rendering extension. While device information settings for the CSV rendering extension allow us to change its format from .csv to .txt format, we can modify FileExtension
setting in the RSReportserver.config file as below:
Please navigate to RSReportserver.config file: <drive:>\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\RSReportserver.config.
Backup the RSReportserver.config file before we modify it, open the RSReportserver.config file with Notepad format.
In the <Render> section, modify the code for the CSV extension like this:
<Extension Name="CSV" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering">
<OverrideNames>
<Name Language="en-US">TXT (Pipe Delimited Text File)</Name>
</OverrideNames>
<Configuration>
<DeviceInfo>
<FileExtension>TXT</FileExtension>
</DeviceInfo>
</Configuration>
</Extension>
Save the RSReportserver.config file.
For more information about CSV Device Information Settings, please see:

Issues in exporting SSRS report to PDF format in Report Server - Blank spaces are deleted
Hi Gurus,
I have a problem in exporting SSRS report to PDF format. It deletes all the blank spaces when I use bullet in a Text box and try to export to PDF formt in Report Server . For example
• Project submitted to the TRC
Result in PDF format:
• ProjectsubmittedtotheTRC
I also noted that when I try to export to PDF in Visual Stuio 2005 (Business Intelligence development studio), it does not delete any blank spaces and shows the correct aligned Data in PDF format.
Please help me as it is frustrating a lot
I would highly appreciate for your quick responseWas there ever a solution found for this as i have the same issue.
When bullet point is entered in a field all the spaces are removed when exported to PDF
i tried exporting to excel and it does not remove spaces, however this is no use to me as it needs to be in PDF
Using IE 7 (Don't think the browser has anything to do with it as this happened via a subscription)
Didn't know SSRS had specific Service Packs, i though they came as patches to SQL Server (SQL Server is on Service Pack 3)
This should be easy to replicate all you need to do is copy text containing a bullet point into a sql server database field and then add this field to a report export to pdf and the spaces are gone
Thanks in advance,

How do I generate a report in text format
How do I generate a report in text format and send it to both a file and to a printer?
Solved!
Go to Solution.I run a series of tests on multiple stations and I need to generate a report, both electronic and one to be printed for a DHR (device history record), for each station. If I use file i/o as you suggested is the preferred approach to generate an electronic file and make the report from that, or generate both the electronic and hard copy report from arrays as the measurement data is acquired. Note that the electronic data is more detailed than the data in the hardcopy report.

Unable to add special characters such as # and ( in headers of Report in Text format
Hi,
I am working on developing a report that will be exported to tab delimited text format from SSRS. The Report has been developed and it is getting exported to tab delimited text format. However, special characters in the heading are getting trimmed. I would
like to get these special characters in the heading of text file. Any help in this regard will be appreciated.Hi Abhijit,
Per my understanding that you have add an extension which export the report as .txt format, now the issue is the special characters"#" not display after exportted, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue , this is by default, when you type some special characters "#" as the textbox name in the properties window or as calculatted field name you will get error pop up window,
if you type the text in the textbox as "#" it will also not display in the CSV or tab delimited text format report.
But we have some alternative method to make them display some way, more details information below for your reference:
Display "#" in the table header
If we want to make them display in the table header, we need to create an new table an put all the table header as one record in the table, because the value in the table can display "#" correctly:
I assumed you have four columns as the table header(Test1#,Test2#,Test3#,Test4#) please create an new table (HeaderTable )to store these value:
Create two dataset2:
Dataset1: display the record from step1
DataSet2:display the record of the report
Create two Tablixs as below and both remove the header column, Tablix1(Dataset1) diplay the value comes from the step1 as the new header column:
Tablix1(Dataset2):Report Data
In this way, when export to tab delimited txt, you will got the table header display correctly.
Display "#" in the textbox outisde of the tablix
If you just want to display "#" outside the tablix, you can just add an calculatted field(Test) and use expression like below to specify the value which you want to display in the calculatted field:
="test######test"
Then you can use below expression in the textbox:
=first(Fields!Test.Value, "DataSetName")
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

How to Export SSRS report into Excel format using query string
Hello all,
I am new to SSRS world.
Last night i was trying to add a hyperlink on the SSRS report (.rdl) file, by clicking which we can export the report into "Excel" format, but with no luck.
Can anybody tell me how to form the hyperlink, so that we can export the report with its current content ( I mean the report content generated by selecting some parameter values)Hi Suman85,
Based on your scenario, you want to add a link on the SSRS report file, and then click it you can export the report into “Excel” format.
Just as kishan1901 said , you can add a textbox to your report and type in the words “Click here and export the report
to excel” .Then right-click the textbox and select Properties. Switch to Navigation tab, click the radiobutton of ‘Jump to URL’ and type in the expression ,here is just a example:
="http://vyof1884200/ReportServer$youhoo?/My+Adventure+Works/Product+Sales+and+Profitability+by+Month&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=excel"
Then preview the report ,you will see
Click here and export the report to excel
when you move the mouse to it ,the mouse will become a hand ,then left-click, it will jump out a dialog box to indicate user whether the excel file should be saved , opened or canceled.
I think this is what you want, if you have any further requirement, could you please describe it in more detail? We would give you some resolution or workaround.

SSRS Report in PDF format opening very slowly in SharePoint
HI All,
I have a SSRS report which is being hosted in SharePoint.
Currently I am opening the report in PDF format in SharePoint but it is taking a lot of time to render.
It would be very helpful if any one helps me to resolve this issue.
Thanks

Sudipta Ghosh Tata Consultancy ServicesHi sudipta,
According to your description, it takes too long to render the report on SharePoint site when accessing it. Right?
In this scenario, it can be many possibilities which will reduce the report performance. We suggest you check the report on ReportServer first. Go to the ReportServer ExecutionLog to see which part takes more time.
Then we need to do some troubleshooting to improve the report performance. Here we have a article for your reference:

Hi,
Can any one help how to create a XML report so that i should be saved in text format OR is there any way where when you click on view output a dialog box with open, save and cancel option appears so that i can save the output in required format.
Thanks,
Dinesh..Hi Dinesh,
Can any one help how to create a XML report so that i should be saved in text format
While defining the respective concurrent program set the output to 'TEXT'. You can do this by:
Sysadmin > Concurrent > Program > Define ; and the select or define the program that you want the output to as TEXT
In the OUTPUT field ensure to have the type as 'TEXT'.
is there any way where when you click on view output a dialog box with open, save and cancel option appears so that i can save the output in required format.
Alternative to the above, while submitting the request after selecting your desired concurrent request , click on Option and change the output type.
Hope this Helps!
Thanks &

Report in text format show break page !!
when i generate a report in char mode, in a text file, it show a break page between the head section and the principal section. there is any way to delete this break page (a line command or properties ( i specify a desformat no_ff)).
thanks.To get a output data to a text file that contains no form feeds ( page breaks ), or other control characters in the output), do followings:
Modify the printer definition file to eliminate form feeds
a. Invoke a text editor and open the file dflt.prt.
b. Move to the following line:
after pages control(L)
Remove "control(L)" so the line appears as shown
below:
after pages
Removing the control sequence from the printer definition file will keep the output from breaking between pages when the report is formatted.
Thanks

Crystal report : Export to Text format from BI Launch pad

We are facing issue in exporting the Crystal report to text format option from BI Launch pad view mode. Currently BI launch pad doesn’t support export to Text format option for crystal report in view mode. But export to text format option is feasible in schedule mode. But customer is not interested in exporting the reports through schedule mode.
Please advise, if we have any alternative way of exporting the crystal report to text format option from BI Launch pad.

How to save report in text (.txt) format using SSRS
Hello
I am using some .rdl file to generate reports and this is using SSRS. But only thing I did that I have changed the configuration file in C drive as below :
Here
Collapse | Copy Code
<Extension Name="TXT" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.CsvRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.CsvRendering">
<OverrideNames>
<Name Language="en-US">TXT (Pipe Delimited Text File)</Name>
</OverrideNames>
<Configuration>
<DeviceInfo>
<FieldDelimiter>|</FieldDelimiter>
<Extension>TXT</Extension>
<Encoding>ASCII</Encoding>
<NoHeader>true</NoHeader>
</DeviceInfo>
</Configuration>
</Extension>
The TXT is added to the drop down . But when I am saving the report it is not saving in .txt format. It is taking .CSV format. Kindly help to save report in txt format.Hi Chat89,
By design, SQL Server Reporting Services render a report to CSV (text) format with a comma (,) as FieldDelimiter in .CSV FileExtension. So if we want to display Pipe FieldDelimiter in .txt format, we can modify those setting in the RSReportserver.config
file as below:
Please navigate to RSReportserver.config file: <drive:>\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer \RSReportserver.config.
Backup the RSReportserver.config file before we modify it, open the RSReportserver.config file with Notepad format.
In the <Render> section, add the new code for the CSV extension like this:
<Extension Name="CSV" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering">
<OverrideNames>
<Name Language="en-US">TXT (Pipe Delimited Text File)</Name>
</OverrideNames>
<Configuration>
<DeviceInfo>
<FieldDelimiter>|</FieldDelimiter>
<FileExtension>TXT</FileExtension>
<NoHeader>true</NoHeader>
</DeviceInfo>
</Configuration>
</Extension>
Save the RSReportserver.config file.

Display value in hh:mm time format in SSRS Report
Hi Everybody,
I have an SSRS report where one of the column is sum of time values. When I do the summation, the values are coming in this format. In the last column the minute value is getting displayed more than 60. How can I format it to proper time format as hh:mm
so that it displays as "08:15" . The expression which I am using is " Sum(CDec(FormatNumber(Fields!Overtime_Hours.Value,2)),"Month"). Your help would be highly appreciated.

RPC
Regards RCPHi RPC24,
According to your description, you can calculate the correct value of time summation. Now you want to make the result into proper time format (hh:mm). Right?
In this scenario, we can convert the time into string type, split the string based on delimiter ":" and convert each part into integer. Then do the calculation for each part and set the hour increase 1 every 60 minutes (we can adjust in expression).
We have tested this case in our local environment. Here are screenshots for you reference:
1. The report design looks like below:
A: =Format(TimeValue(Fields!StartTime.Value.ToString),"hh:mm")
B:=CStr(SUM(CInt(split(CStr(Format(TimeValue(Fields!StartTime.Value.ToString),"hh:mm")),":")(0)))+SUM(CInt(split(CStr(Format(TimeValue(Fields!StartTime.Value.ToString),"hh:mm")),":")(1)))\60)+":"+CStr(SUM(CInt(split(CStr(Format(TimeValue(Fields!StartTime.Value.ToString),"hh:mm")),":")(1)))
Mod 60)
Ps: In this sample, we used Time data type. You may need to do some modification in your expression based on the data type of the time data field.
2. The result looks like below:
