Stamp becomes stuck behind form fields

I would like users to be able to apply, resize and move a stamp around on our form using Acrobat Reader, but if the user is unlucky enough to have their stamp appear or shift to a spot commanded by an active field (a text field, for example), the stamp can become no longer selectable.
Is there a way to somehow bring the stamp to the top or otherwise make it always selectable?
We'd very much appreciate your help with this.
Sincerely,
Calamity Vic

Hello Again Friends,
I found a solution to this problem. A stamp which has accidentally become trapped behind a text (form) field can be selected and deleted as follows:
1. Do one of the following to activate the Comments navigation panel:
a. Go to VIEW/NAVIGATION PANELS/COMMENTS, or...
b. Click the Comments icon in the lower left corner (on the main
navigation panel) if it is visible.
2. If there is more than one stamp present in your form, click on each stamp row in the comments navigation panel to identify which is the problem stamp.
3. Right-click the stamp icon on that row to highlight the trapped stamp.
4. Select DELETE from the dropdown list to remove the trapped stamp.
5. You can now apply a fresh stamp to the correct postion.
Thanks for the help I'm sure you would have given if/when you had the time,
Calamity Vic

  • Comments Drop Behind Form Field

    I have forms that I created using Adobe XI Pro and want the end user to provide comments to the forms in PDF when necessary.  However, when a comment is inserted using either Reader or Pro, the comment drops behind the field in the final version and cannot be seen but can be found in the comments summary dialog box.  Is there a way to leave the comments on the top layer so they are always visible on the page?

    Sorry, I slightly misread your original post. The fact that these annotations appear behind form fields is normal and not something you can change.
    However, if you flatten the form fields and not the comments, the field appearances will get converted to regular page contents so the comments will appear above them. I don't know if this would make sense to do given your workflow though. If you want to look into it more, you can download and install the following free JavaScript-based selective flattener tool: UVSAR : Selective Flattener tool for Adobe Acrobat 8, 9 and X

  • Is there anyway to tell what is the database column behind the form field (

    Is there anyway to tell what is the database column behind the form field (in Oracle financials).

    If you are lucky, it can be simple, but if you are unlucky, it can be very complicated.
    Using Help > Diagnostics > Examine when in the field will give you the name of the field.
    Help > Diagnostics > Examine (Block: SYSTEM / Field: LAST_QUERY) will give you the query for the last block queried, which may or may not be the block you want, depending on how the form is defined (ie Master Detail relationships). If this is for the correct block and the field name is one of the columns returned by the query, then that is probably your answer.
    If the Last Query is not for the correct block, using Help > Record History will give you the table or view that the block is based on (only where there is already a record in the block).
    If the field name matches a column name in the table or view, then that is probably where it comes from. If there is no matching column name in the table or view, then the field is probably not queried directly from the database as part of the main query - it is probably populated by logic in the form, like the POST-QUERY trigger on the block. This means you need to open the form in Forms Builder to find what is populating your field (Program > Find and Replace PL/SQL is very handy for this).

  • Can Form Fields from uploaded WORD docs become Sharepoint columns ?

    Hello -
    We are in the process of uploading many Word docs from Shared drives to Sharepoint (2010 )
    Some of the Word documents have information stored in Form Fields. For Example : BuyerName & SellerName. These fields need to be used in SP for sorting, filtering etc.
    We have tried creating columns on Sharepoint with the same names (BuyerName & SellerName) but the information from the Word docs does not display in the corresponding Sharepoint columns once the docs are uploaded.
    Any advice on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated !

  • File icon stuck behind recycle bin

    Somehow a photo file got "stuck" BEHIND the recycle bin icon in my toolbar. No matter what I do, I can't seem to click and drag the file out from behind the recycle bin icon to then throw it INTO the recycle bin. Any ideas on how to fix this? It's been just sitting behind it for months now and I am too dumb to figure out how to deal with it (former PC user and soon to be exclusively PC user)

    Hi morrisgal and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Either go to the Apple menu>Dock>Turn Hiding On or just hit the cmdaltD keys. Once the Dock is out of the way drag your file further onto the desktop, hit cmdaltD again and you Dock will reappear.
    Another way would be to open a Finder window, navigate to Desktop within Finder, identify the file and drag it to the Trash from there or ctrl click>Move to Trash.
    Don't be too hasty in becoming an exclusive PC user, I ditched PCs many years ago after staying up all night trying to disinfect my PC laptop from a virus, and yes, I did have AV software. It got infected before a fix had been released.
    I've never regretted the move and leaving aside the virus issue I much prefer the Mac interface as well as the hardware. 'Here' is a wonderful community of fellow Mac users most of whom will go out of their way to help, just for the satisfaction.
    Whatever you decide, good luck!

  • Flexible content lengths in form fields - how?

    Hi everyone,
    I am new at this Designer tool and need help regarding flexible contents inside form fields.
    1. Inside my pattern-form there are fields for customer/product-contents which VARY their size.
    --> Example: If field #a gets a size of 20 lines instead of 5, field #b (below #a) MUST move/relocate downwards.
    (It is not acceptable to offer a maximum sized field only = I need flexible frames!)
    2. Ideal would be: If form #a becomes too big, the form should be able to push field #b to the following page.
    Can someone explain me the steps how to do produce a form which contains the requirements above? Many thanks in advance!
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
    this issue should be resolved by placing the fields in question inside a sub-form. Subforms can either be Positioned (where the fields cannot grow) or Flowed (where the fields can grow).
    To do this you can Ctrl+select all the fields in the hierarchy view and right-click --> Wrap in Subform.
    This will alter the hierarchy structure; you will see the fields under your new subform.
    Next, go to the Object's tab (once you have selected the subform) and change the property to 'Flowed' (the alternative is Positioned). Once you have changed it to Flowed, you have the option of flowing it either Top to bottom or Western Text (from left to right). This choice must be based on your requirement.
    I won't lie - the Flowed/Positioned subform option can be tricky, the 'Margins'settings can mess with the rest of your layout. If this subform thing throws off your layout too much, you can also place Positioned subforms within it - just remember those subforms will not grow. Testing will reveal what suits you best.
    It is very important to remember to tick 'Allow Page Breaks within Contents' - this allows the subform to flow over onto the next page if needed. Also, remember to look at your Field's properties (such as 'Allow Multiple Lines', etc).
    I hope this has helped. Perhaps look for a tutorial on this matter on the Adobe site - you'll probably need a reference to look back on if you get stuck.

  • How can I add form field value to the file name in save as dialog box

    I do not want the form to be saved automatically, just want the form to auto populate the "file name" only.
    A little background on the forms I want to use:  My company has 70 retail outlets, I'll use one of our pdf forms called an "Incident Report" as an example.  I would like for a store manager to be able to complete the form, then email the form to the main office (I already have javascript to add field values and form name to the email subject line), once the main office receives it, I want for them to be able to file the pdf electronically on our server.  We have mutliple forms that we use so I do not want any of the forms to automatically save anywhere, (at this time anyway) I just want the office personnel to be able to click "save as" (or whatever they will need to click) and the form automatically add certain field values from the pdf they have received, of which will be different each time the form is sent to the office (Date, store #, employee name etc.) in addition to the name of the form in the "File name" of the "Save As" dialog box.  The main office employees will decide into which server file the pdf should be saved.
    I'm using Acrobat 8 professional, the stores and office personnel use Adobe reader.
    One little note:  We currently print and file a lot of paper on a daily bases, as soon as I can get this to work, we are going green.
    Me and a lot of trees in this will really apprecitate any help you can give with this!  :-)

    You might want to take a look at the document "Developing Acrobat Applications Using JavaScript" (js_developer_guide.pdf) which is part of the Adobe Acrobat SDK, which can be downloaded here. Read the "Privileged versus non-privileged context" (p. 45ff.). You will find an example for "Executing privileged methods in a non-privileged context". Should be almost exactly what you are looking for.
    Small Outline: For security reasons ("the user always has to know what's going on") you are not allowed to use the "Doc.saveAs"-method without the user permission (--> in a non-privileged context). In order to reach the goal of a privileged context you can use a trusted function. You do this by creating a JavaScript file (*.js) in either the Application-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%ProgramFiles%\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Javascripts") or the User-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%AppData%\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\JavaScripts"). Add the following content to the new file:
    myTrustedBrowseForDoc = app.trustedFunction( function ( oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = app.browseForDoc( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    myTrustedSaveAs = app.trustedFunction( function ( doc, oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = doc.saveAs( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    The developer guide actually wants you to add this content to the existing "config.js" file. I recommend creating a new file, since its easier to deploy in a network. Either way, every client/user who needs to be able to save documents this way, needs this JavaScript Code in his Application/User-JavaScript-Folder.
    Within the Acrobat Document, which you want to obtain a certain file name, you can now use the trusted functions "myTrustedBrowseForDoc" and "myTrustedSaveAs" to store the file. To call the trusted functions and deliver the file name you can either you use a form field (button) or you add a new menu item. Add the following JavaScript Action to the button/menu item and change "Roller Coaster" to the name of the field which contains the value which you want to become the new file name:
    var fileName = this.getField("Roller Coaster").valueAsString;
    try {
         var oRetn = myTrustedBrowseForDoc({bSave: true, cFilenameInit: fileName + ".pdf"});
         try {
              myTrustedSaveAs(this, { cPath: oRetn.cPath, cFS:oRetn.cFS });
         catch(e) {
              console.println("Save not allowed, perhaps readonly.");
    catch(e) {
    console.println("User cancelled Save As dialog box");
    Good Luck!

  • Adobe Reader freezes all browsers when opening a url to a PDF containing form fields...

    There is an issue we are currently experienceing with Adobe Acrobat 9 (updated to the latest version) where ALL BROWSERS (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari) on each of two different systems (a MacBook Pro with Mac OSX Leopard and a Sony Vaio Laptop with Windows Vista) where the application will freeze up and crash the browser when we view a .pdf file from a url if the .pdf file iteself contains form fields.
    At first I though it may have been specific to Mac OSX and this MacBook we were trying to view the document on, but the same issue is now occuring with a new Sony Vaio laptop (running Windows Vista) as well.
    It seems like it is able to open .pdf documents containing form fields when they are stored locally, but when trying to access them via a url, the program will freeze up.  Sometimes it will eventually work if you had previously opened a .pdf prior to opening it via the url link and sometimes it doesn't.  And it seems to only be related to .pdfs containing fillable form fields (others open fine when accessing them by a url)
    Obviously it's become quite irratating and I'm hopeing I can find some insight on this support forum as to what may be causing this issue.
    Previous versions of Acrobat (installed on the MacBook) opened this very same .pdf file (url) fine before upgrading to version 9.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Form with report, update field in the form = field is not updated in table

    Hi,
    I have a form with report. On Primary Key in the report is a link to the form. I select one row in the form by choosing the link in the report. Then I update a field in the form and press "Save". I see the success message "Action processed" and I'll be back in the report. I see the field in the report with it's old content. It is not updated. I don't understand why. Can anybody help me?
    Thanks Daniela

    Daniela,
    Is the form field source set to the proper database column? It's either not properly defined or your Save button and the builtin update process have somehow become disconnected. Check to make sure that the Save button is set to perform an Update in the database operations setting.

  • How do I print all of the text in a scrollable form field?

    How do I print all of the text in a scrollable form field?  When I print the form, the text becomes cut off based on the size of the field and displays a little plus sign in the lower right hand corner indicating more text.  I want to print all of the text.

    The form is HTML which means what you see in your browser window is what you will see in your print out.  You can, as the form author, view the submitted data in the View Responses tab and print that out.  You can also export the responses to Excel, CSV, or PDF and print that out.

  • Setting form fields to required not working in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro

    This should be a simple matter. However, I'm stuck in a rut with it, and cannot seem to get out.
    I have created a form. All I need is for users to be prompted that they have to complete the form field when they try to tab or click out of that particular field where there needs to be information input. I have tried the following "on blur" java script code:
    if (!event.value) {
        app.alert("This field is required. Please enter a value.");
        event.target.setFocus();
    What continues to happen is when the user clicks out of that field, the error message comes up asking them to click "okay." The problem is that the error message does not go away after the user clicks it.
    What I've learned is that if you right click on a field and click "set as required field," it doesn't work in the way I need it to. In fact, it hasn't been working at all for me.
    Does anyone have a simple suggestion? I more than willing to try anything at this point.

    OK, so the custom calculate script for field B could be something like:
    (function () {
        // Get field values as strings
        var sA = getField("A").valueAsString;
        var sC = getField("C").valueAsString;
        var sD = getField("D").valueAsString;
        // Only perform the calculation if all fields are filled
        if (sA && sC && sD) {
            var sum = +sC + sD;
            event.value = sum;
            // Alert the user if the sum is more than A
            if (sum > +sA) {
                app.alert("Error message goes here");
        } else {
            // Blank this field if all fields are not filled in
            event.value = "";
    Instead of (or in addition to) an app.alert popup, you could place this message in a read-only form field, and clear it if there is no error condition.

  • Save As with the filename from a form field entry

    Hi,
    I have an Acrobat fillable form. It is a questionaire that will be filled out by visitors using my laptop then printed. It is important that this form also be saved so I can later merge the data to a spreadsheet.
    My first thought was to create a button labeled Print that would first do a Save As then Print. But I'm concerned the visitor may mislabel or even escape out of the Save As dialog box.
    Is there java script code someone could help me with that would perform the Save As using the data imputted into one of the form fields as the filename. So when the Print button was clicked the form would be saved (behind the scene) and then printed.
    Thanks
    Dennis

    Issue solved. I should've used Display as text (Does not save state)
    THANK YOU JOEL!

  • PDF/A vs. Form Fields (checkboxes, radiobuttons)

    I've question regarding the PDF/A specification and would appreciate some clarification.
    The specs says:
    "If an annotation dictionary contains the AP key, the appearance dictionary that it defines as its value shall contain only the N key, whose value shall be a stream defining the appearance of the annotation. [...] Every form field shall have an appearance dictionary associated with the field's data. A conforming reader shall render the field according to the appearance dictionary without regard to the form data."
    Now i have a document which is fully PDF/A compliant however the acrobat preflight (8 & 9) check fails with the message that my checkboxes do not only contain the /N key. However they do contain just the /N (normal) appearances.
    1.) So what's the problem? (Can't think that this should be a bug since intarsys PDF/A validation also reports it...)
    The PDF Spec 1.4 defines the 'normal' appearance of a checkbox like that:
    /AP << /N << /On formXObject1 /Off formXObject2>>>>
    2.) Or does the spec mean, that there can only be one appearance inside the /N enty?
    Then PDF 1.4 states:
    "The appearance for the off state is optional, but if present must be stored in the appearance dictionary under the name Off."
    3.) So if i only define the "On" state the document will become fully PDF/A compliant?
    4.) And what about the Appearance state (AS)? PDF 1.4 states:
    "The choice between the checked and unchecked appearance states is determined by the AS entry in the annotation dictionary"
    But PDF/A does not mention the /AS key but it is vital for checkboxes...?! According to the spec a viewer has to "render the field according to the appearance dictionary" -> but checkboxes can have two states ....
    Thanks for bringing any light on this!
    /ToM

    Meaning like this:
    AP<< /N << stream [...] enstream>>>>
    So basically after filling out the pdf the viewer has to:
    1.) take the /AS key
    2.) get the proper appearance dictionary (on or off)
    3.) and write that value into the AP (and therefore overwriting the old 'On' and 'Off' dictionaries)
    to get a valid PDF/A document afterwards?
    /ToM

  • Can I retain PDF created form fields if importing back to indesign?

    Hello,
    First time forum user here.
    I have been trying to create an active form that would work as an internal approval form for any design job created in Indesign. I saw in other posts here that it is not possible to create this in Indesign so I designed my form in Indesign, created PDF & set up form fields within that Arobat file.
    I now want to imprt this back into Indesign whilst maintaining the field functionality with the intention of it becoming a Library item.
    Is this possible & what is the direction I would take to achieve this? I am not familiar with XML (which is what I tried but didn't understand what I had created).
    Hope you can help,
    Mel

    Thanks Peter,
    It was a bit of a long shot - I was trying to cheat the system somewhat but yes, your response is exactly what I have been coming up with.
    What a great function this could be though for Design Studios everywhere and more - Design Checklists/Client Approvals/Printers Notes that can be modified to auto-fill as per set fields. Can sit it in the slug and it would be a great reference point for any stage of the job (well that's my studio/production manager head talking - nice neat documentation... LOVE IT!
    Guess I will have to rely on Acrobat to get me through.
    Appreciate your time.

  • How do I create a Form Field Template?

    Does this not exist in the new version of Document Cloud? I would like to be able to add form field layers for signing an Invoice where the account information is going to be different each time I use the form - so the standard template will not work.
    Thanks!

    First of all, it's still possible to add library documents for pro agreement. This discussion centers on creating and use  re-usable form layers.
    So instead of having a document plus fields, this feature let;s you create a template of just the fields, which can be stamped on uploaded document.
    The help article from earlier, only discusses the second part  on how to stamp these layers on an agreement.
    It doesn't explain how to create field layers. Creating form layers is done by going to the dashboard>add Template to library.
    In an account that support it, it's here you get the option to create a reusable form layer.
    now as far as I'm aware this field layer feature only ever has  been a feature in multi user accounts. (So old echosign team accounts and higher) In the Document cloud that would be Document Cloud Enterprise premium.
    I even checked with an old pro account which hasn't been updated to the Document Cloud, and that doesn't this feature either.
    if you did indeed used to have reusable form layers as an option, were you using an Echosign pro, or a different type of account?
    However I'll check with our Product management to see if perhaps this feature can be made part of the Pro account.
