Standard for Devloping Application

Question

Hi friends,
Can anyone provide some link or document which states how efficient application could be made using jdeveloper.
Like for example.
To make an search and update page in a application on a table i have two options.
First
1) Create query based view object for search page.
2) Using row key i go to the update page which is based on Entity object, with the row key set the record to be updated.
Second
1) Create only one view object based on entity objct and use it for both update and search page.
Some document which tells how exactly this whole adf application is working. So one can make performance document.
