Standby database EBS
when reading the document ID 216212.1 For creating standby database i found step 13 to run adclonectx.pl , why not adcfgclone.pl ?
13. Do file-based configurations on standby middle tiers.
After the middle tier software copies are complete, the file system configurations need to be updated to reflect the new environment. To do this on the middle tiers, log onto each standby middle tier system as the APPLMGR user and execute the following commands. Since your environment scripts are not yet set up, you will need to manually resolve the reference to <COMMON_TOP> and <APPL_TOP>:
cd <COMMON_TOP>/clone/bin
perl adclonectx.pl <APPL_TOP>/admin/<Production context>.xml
I have RDBMS : 10.2.0.2.0 and Oracle Applications : 12.0.4 (EBS R12).
For creating standby database i found step 13 to run adclonectx.pl , why not adcfgclone.pl ?Beacuse you need context file before any further activity. Please find below short description of both file.
adclonectx.pl is used to create the context file. This will ceate a new context file as per the details of this instance.
adcfgclone.pl is script that will perform the target clone configuration as per configuration file.
Thanks,

Error while creating standby database for ebs prod database
Hi,
We are getting error while trying to create a standby database for EBS database by using RMAN DUPLICATE commands,
Steps followed:
1.) Backup the primary database (Ebs PROD db). This was done on 12-Mar-2012
***RMAN backups are scheduled to run @10:00 pm every night. Flash Recovery Area has been configured and backup is taken at this location
everyday.
2.) Tar the backupset, autobackup, archivelogs etc in FRA .... and copy this to the target server (STANDBY).
*** Copy(oracle rdbms binaries and FRA) completed @12:00AM on 14-Mar-2012
3.) Tried to create standby database by using RMAN duplicate on 14-Mar-2012
RMAN> rman sys/sys@PROD auxiliary /
RMAN> duplicate target database for standby dorecover nofilenamecheck;
After, some time the RMAN DUPLICATE process errors out with,
ORA-19563: header validation failed for file
We are not sure about the cause of this error. While searching in Metalink, we got several notes (ex, 352074.1) but all the causes stated for this error
are not applicable in our case. We double checked our instance to confirm this.
We have also found that in PROD database there are 65 datafiles and after the RMAN DUPLICATE errors out in the targer server (STANDBY) the RMAN managed to restore 51 datafiles before erroring out.
# Please note PROD database was also backed up on 13-Mar-2012. We have a suspicion that backup on 13-Mar may be a possible cause for this error but we are
not sure.
Need suggestions if there can be any other possible causes???
We are in a fix and it would be appreciable if we get some quick suggestions..
Regards,
Rupdipt

Oracle EBS R12 - 11.2.0.2 - Logical Standby Database & RMAN backups
Hi all,
I have Oracle EBusiness Suite R12 running on 11.2.0.2. Our organization used to have most of the business in North America, South America and Europe; but now we are also in Australia, China and Indonesia. Previously running large reporting batch jobs and RMAN backups at night time in USA was feasible but now that is beginning to show up as performance issue for some countries.
I was thinking would it make sense to have a Active Data Guard logical standby database on a separate server in the same US based data center where we have our main servers and use that logical standy database for reporting and RMAN backups. I am especially concerned about RMAN backups. Would I be able to make RMAN backups from the logical standy database and somehow use those to recover our primary database if some issue happens?
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks all,Active Data Guard only deals with physical standbys. If you are using a logical standby you can always open the database without using Active Data Guard option.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25608/rman.htm#sthref846 says that:

Backups of logical standby databases are not usable at the primary database. -
Test physical standby database in dataguard
Hi all,
I had a successfull dataguard implementation for oracle 9r2.
Primary and standby databases are on different nodes, logs from primay are shipping and applying to physical standby database successfully.
As these database are for oracle 11i ebs, so for testing dataguard status i had created a table manually having columns date and remarks. Periodically i insert few records in this table in primary database and then chek this tabel in standby database (by opening in read only mode).
Now i want to test physical standby database with applications tierĀ but don't want to disturb origional primary database.
as these are the normal switchover steps
1) at primary db
ALTER DATABASE COMMIT TO SWITCHOVER TO PHYSICAL STANDBY WITH SESSION SHUTDOWN;
2) at standby
ALTER DATABASE COMMIT TO SWITCHOVER TO PRIMARY;
3) at primary, now this will be the stand by database
SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
STARTUP MOUNT;
4) at standby, now this will be the primary database
SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
STARTUP
My concern is if i skip step 1 and 3 and only execute step 2 and 4, will that be applicable for my requirement, or there is some other way to achieve this goal.
Regards,
KenTo avoid touching the primary production DB, you may try to use the following command on your standby database side:
alter database activate standby database;
This will turn your standby database to primary database, however the log will be reset and this means you will need to rebuild your DR.
Another way is to use flash back feature on your standby database, activate it and revert back to the flashback point when the DR testing is done. -
Restoring backup of standby database
Hi,
I have an issue logging into my database as sysdba. I'm getting the error ORA-01031: Insufficient priveleges. Here are the facts surrounding the issue:
1. I have a backup (not a clone) of my standby database.
2. I am restoring this backup to a new server I just built.
3. The O/S version and directory structure is exactly the same as my source.
4. I've restored my backup to my new server. When I set the DB environment variable and then try to logon with sqlplus '/ as sysdba', I get ORA-01031.
Here's what I've already tried:
1. I've verified my SID and ORACLE_HOME are being set properly.
2. TWO_TASK is not set.
3. I have confirmed $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib/config.c is correct.
4. I've performed all the checks on Metalink Note 69642.1.
I'm completely stumped at this time. I even rebuilt the whole thing from scratch just to ensure that I wasn't missing something. The only thing I can think of is that this is a standby database and it needs to be 'failed over'. However, I would still need to logon as sysdba for that so I'm still stuck.
Can anyone shed some light on what else I can check? My DB version is 10.2.0.4. running RHEL 4 Update 7. I'm also running EBS 11.5.10.2.
Thanks.
Aliyah.Problem has been resolved. It turned out that I overlooked my config.c file. In there, my oracle user was not set to the dba group. So I had to change it, and relink the link. All is well now. Thanks.

Hi all,
I have installed R12(EBS & DB) in server A.
I have standby database in server B.(which is manually cloned from server A).
I do not have application tier in standby environment.
If primary database fails i will make standby as primary(Failover).
Pl do clarify how can i make EBS work which is in server A.
Is it possible to synchronize EBS(in server A) with standby database (in server B)without having application tier in standby environment.
Pl suggest me.Have you followed any documents for setting up the Standby for Oracle EBS R12?
If you have followed the Oracle Metalink Note:452056.1 for "Business Continuity for Oracle Applications Release 12 on Database Release 10gR2"
This note talks about about setting up standby/switch over/fail over etc. It's really a good document, and you must have to take a look at it.

Creating a new schema in a Logical Standby Database
Hi All,
I am experimenting with logical standby databases for the purpose of reporting, and have not been able to create a new schema in the logical standby database - one of the key features of logical standbys.
I have setup primary and logical standby databases, and they seem to be running just fine - changes are moved from the primary to the standby and queries on the standby seem to run ok.
However, If I try to create a new schema on the logical standby, that does not exist on the primary, I get "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges" errors when I try to create new objects.
Show below are the steps I have taken to create the new schema on the logical standby. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Script has to be run from auxiliary.
Great details, but what I don't see is how you connect in RMAN.
Example
Start RMAN
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@recover2 auxiliary=sys/@reclone
Recovery Manager: Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Feb 22 14:50:31 2012
Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
connected to target database: RECOVER2 (DBID=3806912436)
connected to auxiliary database: RECLONE (not mounted)Nothing in your tnsnames or listener jumps out as wrong. I copied them into my text editor and compared against my working ones.
Generally for active duplication I start the future standby on a pfile NOMOUNT.
Auxiliary Instance Initialization Parameters Needed :
DB_NAME
CONTROL_FILES
DB_BLOCK_SIZE
( add extra parameters like DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT instead of using the SET command - clean up standby spfile right after duplication )
Then start RMAN and finally run a single line duplication command.
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@primary auxiliary=sys/@standby

Logical Standby Database in NOARCHIVE Mode
Hi,
I have configured a Logical Standby Database for Reporting purposes. A Physical Standby Database is running for MAA. i.e. in case of Role Transition (switch/Failover) the Physical Stdby Db will get the role of the Primary.
The logical standby database is creating a lot of Archive Redologs files, nearly every minute. Redolog files are 50MB and there is no work done in db during the time. I'm NOT using Standby Redolog files.
Is there a need for logical standby database to be in NOARCHIVELOG mode? The Primary is definatley in ARCHIVELOG mode.
Thanks for any responses.
regards
Sahbahi,
well there are two things to the above:-
1. there was an archive file nearly every minute:
this is due to a db recovery. for some reason, the db was in inconsistent state, after a sudden shutdownof the OS. I was on a test environment, on windows vista, unfortunately. unimportant ... a reboot solved it.
2. Logical standby db in NOARCHIVE MODE when setup for the purpose of Reporting.
As long as the MAA configured for the primary db, such as physical standby db, and a second, the logical standby db setup purely for the purpose of reporting, which then can run with NOARCHIVELOG mode, after converting the physical standby db to logical.
logical standby db uses Streams architecture, so this method brings cost, time and performance advantages to the customer.
regards
Sahba -

Error while trying to open physical standby database - (DATA GUARD)
Hi Everyone,
I have problems in opening the database of the physical standby in read- write mode/ read only mode. I have a primary server which is running on 2 node RAC and the standby on a seperate single server being used as DR. I recently got this server and my aim was to isolate the standby server from primary server and perform few test. As it has never been tested even once.

Hi all, I configured dataguard in my local system, i ve a few qsns (as i am new, ve patience)
1) scn differs wrt primary in standby (i checked, 1day difference), how to make scn same?Please do not use IM language here, instead of "qsns" use questions.
SCN can be differ in standby and it can be behind to primary based on the backup you have restored. Of course by performing recovery you can synchronize standby with primary database. You can use incremental backups for standby using link http://www.oracle-ckpt.com/rman-incremental-backups-to-roll-forward-a-physical-standby-database-2/
2)i created a table in primary, its not refelecting in standby, (below i ve pasted alertlog entries)

How to delete the foreign archivelogs in a Logical Standby database
How do I remove the foreign archive logs that are being sent to my logical standby database. I have files in the FRA of ASM going back weeks ago. I thought RMAN would delete them.
I am doing hot backups of the databases to FRA for both databases. Using ASM, FRA, in a Data Guard environment.
I am not backing up anything to tape yet.
The ASM FRA foreign_archivelog directory on the logical standby FRA keeps growing and nothing is get deleted when
I run the following command every day.
delete expired backup;
delete noprompt force obsolete;
Primary database RMAN settings (Not all of them)
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 9 DAYS;
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE DB_UNIQUE_NAME 'WMRTPRD' CONNECT IDENTIFIER 'WMRTPRD_CWY';
CONFIGURE DB_UNIQUE_NAME 'WMRTPRD2' CONNECT IDENTIFIER 'WMRTPRD2_CWY';
CONFIGURE DB_UNIQUE_NAME 'WMRTPRD3' CONNECT IDENTIFIER 'WMRTPRD3_DG';
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;
Logical standby database RMAN setting (not all of them)
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 9 DAYS;
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
How do I cleanup/delete the old ASM foreign_archivelog files?OK, the default is TRUE which is what it is now
from DBA_LOGSTDBY_PARAMETERS
LOG_AUTO_DELETE TRUE SYSTEM YES
I am not talking about deleting the Archive logs files for the Logical database that it is creating, but the Standby archive log files being sent to the Logical Database after they have been applied.
They are in the alert log as follows under RFS LogMiner: Registered logfile

How to delete archivelog with RMAN in the Primary and Standby database?
Hello,
I am working on Oracle 10gR2.
My question is :
How could I implement a automatized and secure way of:
1) Delete archivelogs on my PRIMARY server only when these logs are successfully TRANSFERED to all my standby databases?
2) Delete archivelogs on my STANDBY server only when these logs are sucessfully APPLIED to the database?
Thanks a lot for your help!on 10G
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO [CLEAR | NONE | APPLIED ON STANDBY];
