Standby Database Progress Summary
Hi you all, a couple months ago I installed and configured Oracle Cloud Control 12c, every thing it's working fine, except that I can't see the standby progress summary chart on Availabilty -> Data Guard Administration, it's not showing any data like it used to on Grid Control.
What I am missing here
Thanks.

Discoverer and Standby Database Summary Tables
Are there any known problems with Discoverer attempting to write to read-only Standby database summary tables? Has anyone been successful running Discoverer against a Standby database?
Regards,
ChadI have not used synonyms in our system, but they can be accessed by creating custom folders in admin. In general, Custom folders are created to build complex query using advanced SQL which cannot be handled by discoverer end user editions. Custom folders can use tables, views, or synonyms.

Script has to be run from auxiliary.
Great details, but what I don't see is how you connect in RMAN.
Example
Start RMAN
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@recover2 auxiliary=sys/@reclone
Recovery Manager: Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Feb 22 14:50:31 2012
Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
connected to target database: RECOVER2 (DBID=3806912436)
connected to auxiliary database: RECLONE (not mounted)Nothing in your tnsnames or listener jumps out as wrong. I copied them into my text editor and compared against my working ones.
Generally for active duplication I start the future standby on a pfile NOMOUNT.
Auxiliary Instance Initialization Parameters Needed :
DB_NAME
CONTROL_FILES
DB_BLOCK_SIZE
( add extra parameters like DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT instead of using the SET command - clean up standby spfile right after duplication )
Then start RMAN and finally run a single line duplication command.
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@primary auxiliary=sys/@standby

Problem Converting standby database from snapshot to physical
Any help willl be greatly appreciated...
I am trying to convert a standby database that is in "snapshot" mode back to "physical" standby and I am encountering problems in the process from the "DGMGRL" command line.
Both instances are on the same physical machine. Everything was working fine untill I tried to change the db from snapshot to physical. The DGMGRL starts the conversion process and is able to shutdown but when trying to restart the instance is fails and reports that the service is not defined.
Here is the issue I am facing:

So, here is the status now....with a little background...
After my original post, I started to read the manuals and I found the sql command to convert the database back from snapshot to physical standby (sb).
That worked fine and I had my snapshot sb back to physical sb.
So when you posted the suggestion, I already had my db in physical sb mode. I said no problem, I will convert it back to snapshot and then back again using dgmgrl instead of sql+
Well here is how my listener is configured now.
SID_LIST_I11G1 =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = I11G1.MHOST)
(ORACLE_HOME = c:\app\mmj\product\11.1.0\db_1)
(SID_NAME = I11G1)
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = I11G1SB.MHOST)
(ORACLE_HOME = c:\app\mmj\product\11.1.0\db_1)
(SID_NAME = I11G1SB)
(SID_DESC =
(GLOBAL_DBNAME = I11G1SB_DGMGRL)
(ORACLE_HOME = c:\app\mmj\product\11.1.0\db_1)
(SID_NAME = I11G1SB)
Then using dgmgrl I tried to change the db from p-sb to s-sb and the results are not good....

Not sure if the following (notice the typo in the service name) in the parameter (log_archive_dest_2) definition on the standby d/b has anything to do with this. I did not get this error when I initially converted to s-sb.
also I checked all my session notes, I did not type the command to set this parameter on the standby d/b and so it was not a typo on my part. However, it seems to have come from the rman script supplied with the obe. This script is supposed to clone the primary d/b to a standby db and in the process replace the string /i11g1/ with /i11g1sb/.

I am tempted to start all over again, but I'd rather use this opportunity to debug this issue (as a learning exercise). I can always start from scratch. That brings up another Q: What do I need to do to blow away all traces of the stand by database (including all the archive logs etc...) keeping my primary intact. I'd also like to blow away all snapshot and archive logs for the primary as well. -
Cannot Convert standby database from snapshot to physical
Hello all,
I am using Oracle Entreprise version 11gR1 and had made the followings configuration:
- ANAISMD2 : primary database+_+
- ANAISMD3 : physical standby datbase. Created via RMAN
Both are located on the same host running a RH 4.
ANAISMD3 is maintained successfully with the primary.
I can make a fail-over between the both: it works fine.
I can convert ANAISMD3 from physical to snapshot via DGMGRL: it works fine
But I cannot convert back ANAISMD3 to physical, got an error ORA-12514
I had checked also the listener service for both ANAISMD2/ANAISMD3 before launching the conversion:
- the services shown on ANAISMD3 seems correct e.g. ANAISMD2 is seen as a remote server.
- but on ANAISMD2, ANAISMD3 seems incorrect e.g. ANAISMD3 is seen as a local server.
I had attached some screen shots of dg/lsnrctl results;
What are the mistakes
Thank in advance for support

The command completed successfullyYou need to have static service registered with listener in this way. This is must because as you know when it converts db that time it shutsdown dbs also so all dynamic services are lost and dgmgrl is not ale to connect to db hence conversion fails.
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = ORACLE_SID)
(GLOBAL_DBNAME=db_unique_name_DGMGRL.db_domain)
(ORACLE_HOME = /apps/oracle/product/11.1.0)
Plus with this make a entry in tnsnames.ora using service name from above or check from lsnrctl status look for service "db_unique_name_DGMGRL.db_domain"
e.g. this is my best practice how i give the names to tns entry
db_unique_name_DGMGRL =
(DESCRIPTION =
(SDU = 32767)
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = hostname)(PORT = port))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = db_unique_name_DGMGRL.db_domain)
Define same way in both primary and standby db.
Now use these tns entries to create configuration.
e.g.
create configuration prim_db as primary database is db_unique_name connect identifier is "db_unique_name_DGMGRL";
-- db_unique_name_DGMGRL from primary tns entry
add database stdby_db as connect identifier is "db_unique_name_DGMGRL" MAINTAINED AS PHYSICAL;
-- db_unique_name_DGMGRL from standby db tns entry
hope this will help -
Data Guard Broker connecting to standby database fails
Hello everybody
I checked lots of pages but I'm not able to find a solution für my problem. I already set up a primary and a standby database (prim = ALPHA1 / standby = ALPHA2).
After enabling my dgmgrl configuration I got two errors:
DGM-17016: failed to retrieve status for database "alpha2"
ORA-16664: unable to receive the result from a database
The dg log from ALPHA1 says:
06/04/2013 16:06:57
Site alpha2 returned ORA-16664.
Data Guard Broker Status Summary:
Type Name Severity Status
Configuration alphadgb Warning ORA-16607
Primary Database alpha1 Success ORA-00000
Physical Standby Database alpha2 Error ORA-16664
While the dg log from ALPHA2 (standby) says:
06/04/2013 16:43:28
SPFILE is missing value for property 'LogArchiveFormat' with sid='ALPHA2'
Warning: Property 'LogArchiveFormat' has inconsistent values:METADATA='arch_ALPHA2_%S_%t_%r.arc', SPFILE='(missing)', DATABASE='arch_ALPHA2_%S_%t_%r.arc'
Failed to connect to remote database alpha1. Error is ORA-12514
Failed to send message to site alpha1. Error code is ORA-12514.
How can I solve this issue? Every type of tnsping is successfull. The sqlplus login from the primary to the standby database works, the other way round works too! Therefore the tnsnames and listener data seems to be correct.

As the listener are configured ALPHA1 (prim) should be on port 1521 while ALPHA2 (stby) should work on 1522. In the configuration of DGMGRL only appears port 1521 (look at StaticConnectIdentifier). Is this maybe the reason of the networking problems with DG Broker? How can I fix this?

Real-time apply cascaded logical standby database
Hi
I have a primary database orcl
Pysical standby database orcl_std
Cascaded logical standby database orcl_tri which receives archivelogs from orcl_std
Real time apply is enabled both in orcl_std (physical standby) and orcl_tri (logical standby)
When I create a table in primary orcl, I am unable to see it on orcl_tri (Although real time apply is enabled)
However, when I switch log in primary, I can see the new table on orcl_tri.
My question is, why realtime apply is not working in my scenerio ?
orcl_std : ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION USING CURRENT LOGFILE;
orcl_tri: ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY IMMEDIATE;

Thanks for your reply.
There is no load or network issue as I`ve just created these databases for the experiement.

DB link for physical standby database
Hi All ,
I'm facing the below error on primary while trying to create a db link pointing to the 10g standby database which is in mount stage.
SQL> create database link synct connect to system identified by 123 using 'stdby';
Database link created.
SQL> select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log@synct where applied='YES';
select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log@synct where applied='YES'
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02068: following severe error from SYNCT
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
Database version is 10.2 standard edition
My requirement is i need to get max(sequence#) of standby database from primary database using db link.
what i was trying to do is
on primary get max(sequence#) & get max(sequence#) of standby using db link and compare both if the gap differene is more than 10 send a mail.
Any suggestions will be really helpful976422 wrote:

If you try to connect any users other than SYS in standby the error is very much expected. Of course you can connect with other users if you open database in OPEN READ ONLY mode, from 11gRx you can connect with other users even MRP is running if you are using ADG(active Data Guard licensed) .
I like to know, what you want to achieve by creating DB Link on physical standby database? Which is not allowed.
Database version is 10.2 standard edition

Any suggestions will be really helpfulNote:- Standard edition, Data Guard not enabled.
To use this you should use Oracle Net Service, you no need of DB Links.
Ex:- sqlplus sys/****@standby as sysdba
Here standby refers to Oracle net service, Where you will have entries in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file.

Our primary linux 10g db is in standard edition and we would like to manually create a standby database
After copying the control and datafiles from primary to standby database, started the standby instance ..

SQL> alter database mount standby database;
SQL> recover standby database;

How do I resolve this problem? Log sequence 833 is the current log on the primary db, archive log haven't been written yet. When I try to "alter database open read only" on the standby db, I get an error "ORA-01156: recovery in progress may need access to file".
I then went back to my primary database, which already had another log switch to 834, log 833 is now available, I then moved that archive log file to the standby db. Try to recover standby database again, but still got errors..

Hi All,
My Oracle database version is Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.8.1 in windows.
My client want to do some verfication on DR database. Users will connect to their application and they should be able to view the DR transaction.Generally our transaction logs come to Production to DR in moring. So they must view all the transaction comes in production to the DR.
phase 2 will be the user submitting the transaction.
overall procedure is :-
1. DBA set the DR in read only mode.
2. User config needs to be changed to point to DR Databse
3. User run the appln to view the transaction.
In this case,we are not going to shutdown the production database.
Now my question is how do I start and what steps do i need to follow? Do i need to disable dataguard from production and open the DR database in read only mode?
Thanks,
MeenaHello,
If the users need to view the transaction reports on the standby database, then yes, it needs to be opened in Read Only mode.
But, when you open your standby database in read only mode, there would not be any recovery in progress on the standby (no Active Dataguard option for the version you are using).
1. Cancel the MRP on the standby database
SQL>alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
2. Open the standby database in read only mode
SQL>alter database open read only;You can later ask the users to connect to the standby database by providing them its TNS entries. The standby database can be used only for reporting purpose (select operations) when you have opened it with read only option.

Asynchronous CDC on a Logical Standby database (10gR2)
Hi,
Question:
Is it possible to setup Asynchronous CDC on a Logical Standby database (10gR2)?
Background:
In our Oracle Data Warehouse environment where we need to provide up-to-the-second "operational" reporting against a Logical Standby database (10gR2 Data Guard) as the production application database owners do not permit direct reporting against the Primary database (10gR2); we also have a Data Warehouse database (10gR2) that requires more sophisticated/summary reporting which is updated at less regular intervals from the Logical Standby database.
The complication is that although the Logical Standby database will serve the purpose of a 'syncronized' version of the Primary database by giving us a current-state view of the data, we require more detailed change data capture on certain tables to audit change history between the points we extract data for the Data Warehouse.
The DBAs do not want to set-up Asynchronous CDC on the Primary database, so is it possible to setup Asynchronous CDC on a Logical Standby database?
Anyone done it before?
Any issues?
Any alternatives?
Any help would be much appreciated.
ThanksAs far as I know it is but it would be easier, and more robust, to just create a second logical standby and feed them both from the primary.
Logical Data Guard and Streams are essentially just two implementations of the same technology written by the same team of developers. -

Thanks
TimAutolog CDC could be one possible solution. It uses a feature of the downstream capture.
