StarOffice / Oracle Open Office

Are current SO9 users eligible for Oracle Open Office and it's incremental upgrades or will it be necessary to purchase it?

Saturday, July 10, 2010
Hi Gerhard!
Ok, extensions which are installed for users are installed in the users profile which is found at
c:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Support\OracleOpenOffice\3\
Other extensions are actually installed in the same folder as the program which is
c:\Program Files\Oracle\Oracle Open Office 3\
To debug your system, try renaming with OOO closed (including the quickstarter)
c:\Documents and Settings\User Application Support\OracleOpenOffice\3\
to
c:\Documents and Settings\User Application Support\OracleOpenOffice\3bad\
The start OOO again. If loads and runs without problem, the the problem is in the profile. If the problem still exists, then you need to remove and reinstall OOO. Make sure you rename or delete the old installation because your problem is on the program folder. During the reinstall do not select migrate the SO9 info.
If OOO runs then you can try using the SO9 profile. bootstrap.ini is found in
c:\Program Files\Oracle\Oracle Open Office 3\program
With OOO closed, open it in notepad or another text editor and change
UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/OracleOpenOffice/3
to
UserInstallation=$SYSUSERCONFIG/StarOffice/9
Then try OOO. If it runs without hitch, then things are great. If the problem reoccurs, then try running SO and remove the extension.

  • Continued support for Oracle Open Office?

Following the announcement by Oracle that Oracle Open Office won't be on offer anymore
    http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Oracle-OpenOffice-org-to-become-a-Community-based-Project-Update-1228831.html
users like me who come from StarOffice 9 and are now using Oracle OO are highly interested to know for how long Oracle is going to offer support (patches and updates) for Oracle Open Office 3.3.1.
Are there any news on that point?

    Monday, April 18, 2011
I am not worried at this point because the service contracts remain in place. Since the latest update for StarOffice 7 was the middle of March (these may or may not be the patches announced at the end of last week by Oracle), I expect OOO patches to appear for a while.
At this point in time the only thing that I certain of is that the commercial milestones which have only existed since OOO 3.3 will end. This is a return to the state of affairs with StarOffice 9 which did not have a separate milestone from the OOo milestones.

  • Where did (Oracle) open office  writer (and other)  certifications go?

The used to be a certification exam 1z0-885 for Open office writer (and calc etc) : ( see eg: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?p_org_id=378219&page_id=433 referenced at time of post).
However these seem to have disappeared without trace!!!
    No retirement ... just vanishment.
While they were probably not popular from once they priced at over double Mr. Gates' offering .... ( as oposed to just under it when they were under Sun's wing).
I understand the apache may have open office gathered under its wing .... but have no absolute reference on this.
Still a retirement or some sort of notice would be appropriate as Oracle had stewardship at one point.
    Rgds - bigdelboy.

Thanx for confirmation and link. I actually finally found something on the apache website about open office here : http://wiki.apache.org/incubator/OpenOfficeProposal
I remember the exams were initially introduced by sun so I guess and not really open source related.
As far as I can tell apache http://directory.apache.org/community%26resources/open-group-certification.html appear to have some connections with certifcation with the open group http://www.opengroup.org/certification/ and I suppose there might be some case for suggestion those exams went under their stewardship.
But as you say the takeup was low, pricing of certiifcation too high (perhaps double microsofts equivalent ... and it needed to be less) and version have moved on and the beast appears to have gone slightly the way of the various unix variants ... the hope is a useful product can continue sensibly.

  • Using Oracle "Import PDF" Extension in Open Office Draw to Edit pdf Files

I am a fairly new Mac user with OS X 10.6. For several months, I have been trying to find something which would edit pdf files better than Preview does (for example, the content of a text box in Preview can only be "center aligned"). Skim and FormulatePro were two options I tried that were improvements over Preview in many respects, but wouldn't let me paste an image onto my pdf (such as, for example, if I wanted to put my digital signature on a document).
Then, I "discovered" the Oracle PDF Import Extension which I had installed in Open Office months ago, but hadn't really used. By "discovered," I mean I read on somebody's blog that you could use Open Office Draw to edit pdf files and I thought, "Hey, I wonder if that would work with my setup." (Boy, do I feel stupid.)
I have just started using this functionality, but in just an hour or so of playing around, I have found that it has far exceeded my expectations and, even, my immediate needs. Besides giving you (a) all the control over text and text boxes that you would expect from, say, a word processing program and (b) allowing you to paste images onto your pdf, Open Office Draw also includes layers!
The layer function threw me off for a bit, because, at first, I kept finding that my attempts to edit the document resulted in grabbing the raster image and moving it "off" of the underlying text layer (a function, I will admit, that I think will be worth exploiting someday, but wasn't what I was looking for at the moment). Then, I discovered that you can "lock" the layer so as to prevent this annoying occurrence. To create your edits, simply create a new layer (call it "MyEdits" or whatever you want) and you're in business.
Anybody who has done anything more than drawn a couple of lines and boxes on a page has discovered that editing the overlapping objects can be a real pain - if not an outright impossibility. Separating these overlapping objects through the use of different layers solves the problem.
The only downside to the use of Open Office Draw as a pdf editing tool that I can see is that you must import the pdf, save your edits in odg format, and then export it to pdf when you're done. I know that we would all like to have the capability of doing everything I just described directly to the native document, but, hey, for all the functionality I have been searching the internet for weeks to find, I think it's a reasonable trade off.

    Try turning off protected mode.

  • Template Builder (XML Publisher Report) for Open Office

    Hi,
Do any body has any idea, if can have template builder for Open Office also, My company has un installed MS Office from my machine, and they dont have license now.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nidhi Gupta

    Hi All,
I think Oracle can provide a BI Publisher Software for the Open Office, since the licencing cost for MS Office is very high.
"OpenOffice Writer" is a open source alternative to MS Word and can be used on Linux. If I am using Linux OS and have to work on BI Publisher templates then certainly I will have to install Windows or use WINE ( I donno how it works but heard of it)
Other Oracle tools such as SQL Developer, etc are platform independent.. then why only BI Publisher is limited for windows/MS Office.
    Tim,
    Can you please answer..
I think it should integrate with OpenOffice too!!

  • An extra prompt appears for Credentials Opening Office Document in Workspac

    Hi,
Anybody have any knowledge about this issue? and how to solve these issue?
*6959959* An extra prompt appears for Credentials Opening Office Document using Internet Explorer with Smartcut or from EPM Workspace.
If a security agent with a cookie-based session management mechanism is used, opening Microsoft Office documents from Microsoft Internet Explorer sometimes another prompt for credentials is displayed. This occurs because Microsoft Office issues an HTTP OPTIONS request when attempting to open documents. This OPTIONS request does not contain the same session-related cookies as requests made from the browser, so the security provider issues the prompt for credentials. Please see http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;838028 for details about how Microsoft Office and Microsoft Internet Explorer open documents.
To resolve this issue, reconfigure the security provider by disabling authentication for OPTIONS requests.
    Thanks in Advance.

Not sure if this is what you are describing or not, but please take a look at Document ID 1350828.1 (I have pasted the text below):
Windows Security Login Window Appears When Exporting Financial Reporting (FR) Reports To Ppt/Doc Or Xls with Office 2010 and Windows 2008 [ID 1350828.1]

Information in this document applies to any platform.
    Symptoms
Unable to export FR reports to Excel, Powerpoint or Word from Workspace.
When exporting and selecting to open the file, a new "Windows Security" window appears with a login/password to the server Windows security
    "Connect to server.system.local"
No matter what user enters, the window comes back and the file doesn't open.
If the file is saved then it can be opened.
    Changes
    Office 2010 was installed.
    Cause
The cause of this issue is unknown.
This issue has been identified in unpublished Bug 11891558 - "WINDOWS SECURITY" LOGIN WINDOW EXPORTING FR REPORTS TO PPT/DOC OR XLS :IE8/WIN7
    Solution
    For versions prior to 11.1.2.0:
Amend the web.xml file for FR with this syntax:
    <security-constraint>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>Suppress OPTIONS,HEAD for Office</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/hrget/*</url-pattern>
    <http-method>OPTIONS</http-method>
    <http-method>HEAD</http-method>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <auth-constraint/>
    </security-constraint>
Restart the Financial Reporting Web Application service and then export the report(s) to Excel, Word or PPT.
Note: File should be located under: Hyperion/deployments/Weblogic9/servers/Financial Reporting/Web Applications/hr/WEB-INF
This has been fixed in Patch Set 11.1.1.3.519 for Oracle Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Financial Reporting (patch number 13024655)
    Beginning with version 11.1.2.0.00:
Please apply the following steps to resolve:
    1. On the Financial Reporting server browse to the location:
    oraclehome\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\financialreporting\InstallableApps
    2. Take a backup copy of the HReports.ear file.
    3. Rename the file to zip and extract the "hr.war".
    4. HReports.ear file contains hr.war, where inside this file in the "web-inf" folder there is the web.xml file.
    5. Edit the web.xml file with a text editor and add the same syntax as the earlier release, at the end before the very last line---></web-app>

  • Discoverer Plus OLAP (D4O) - Export to Excel  vs. Open Office

    Hej dear experts,
following issue: we`re using D4O (Version 10.1.2.54.25) and have many users, who want to use the "Export to Excel" function.
As we don`t run MS Office, but Open Office, the function "Export to Excel" is not available (greyed out).
I`ve been searching forums and web for any hint, how to use Open Office instead of MS Office for this, but no hits so far.
    * associating xls file with Open Office doesn`t help
    * extracting the content of d4o.jar gives me the structure, in which I was searching for a kind of configuration file, but no success (expecting xml file?)
Obviously D4O is looking for the "EXECL.EXE" somewhere in the registry?
Has anyone of you experiences or an idea, how to make it work with Open Office?
Any hints and comments highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Thomas

Thanks to a hint from Oracle support experts it`s working now...
D4O checks during startup following keys in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Applications\Excel.exe\shell\Open\command<fileName>
    (or)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Applications\Excel.exe\\shell\Edit\command <fileName>
    I`ve created a registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Classes\Applications\Excel.exe\shell\Open\command\
(Type: REG_SZ) and entered the path to scalc.exe.
It didn`t work with scalc.exe, but after I`ve copied scalc.exe to excel.exe and changed the registry key to point to it, it works now.
Note: it obviously needs capital letters, so I wrote it like "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program\EXCEL.EXE" , with small letters it didn`t do anything.
Now "Export to Excel" is avalible in D4O.
Tested successfully, the only sour note is that graphs are not properly exported or readable by OO, but this may depend on OO version 2.
    regards,
    Thomas

  • Converting to Open Office

    Hello:
Can Appleworks 6 data files be converted to Open Office?  If so, how?
I have tried to convert one Appleworks letter to Open Office (I right clicked on the file icon, clicked on Get Info, then used the drop down
open with and a chose Open Office, closed the info window, I opened the letter and got another selection panel, I cliked OK)  the letter was
there but a 2 page letter somehow had 22 pages with it and the letter its self was very mixed with vaying differnt symbals throughout the letter.
    The type was also miniturized.
Are there any controls or adjustments I can make for the letter to look normal?
I am using a Mac Mini Intel with Snow Leopard
    Thanks

    Also use LibreOffice
When Oracle bought Sun which supported OpenOffice, they don't want to really support it anymore for no profit.
So most of the developers left and forked into LibreOffice, which now has developers around the world supporting it and it's even better than before.
    https://www.libreoffice.org/
LibreOffice is availalbe on OS X, Windows and now distibuted with all fresh Linux installs.
So unles you want to have a stale program with no security fixes or patches, use LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice, and NeoOffice is just a early port of OpenOffice for the Mac, it's being depreciated as well.
    Good Luck.

  • Unable to open Office files on SharePoint 2010 sites on Windows Server 2008 R2

Setup: Windows SharePoint Server 2010 sp1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (hosted on VMWare VSphere ESXi 5.1)
Secured using Domain SSL from GlobalSign.
    Client OS: Windows 7 Professional 32bit & Windows XP SP3 32 bit
    Browsers: IE10, IE9,IE8
    Office: Office 2010, Office 2010 sp2 (both 32bit), Office 2007
Problem Description: Only recently, users started having issues with opening Office files (Word, Excel) on SharePoint sites. When you click on an Office file e.g. Word Document, it comes up with the option to select "Ready only" or "Edit"
and choosing either options and re-entering the login credentials results in the
application hanging. If you leave it for a while (about 5 minutes) sometimes the file opens and other times it gives the error "Could not open https://portal.com/XXX/XXX/Document.docx". Even when it opens, it's extremely
sluggish and can't do anything other than end it via Task Manager. Same with excel files.
This happens to all the users all different OS and browsers.
On XP Pro SP3 w/ IE8, when you click on the file, the login prompt keeps popping back up repeatedly and if you click cancel, the file loads up anyway but no way of saving back onto the SharePoint site.
IMPORTANT: One exception is when logged in as a Site Collection Administrator, it
works like a dream bizarrely!!!! Opens, Edits and saves back fine on the SharePoint site.
    Have tried following:
    1. Repaired Office 2010 Pro; Uninstalled/Re-installed Office 2010 Pro
    2. Reset Browser, unticked automatically detect proxy settings.
    3. Emptied OfficeOfflineCache on Client
    4. Removed WebDAV from the SharePoint server
    5. Added Antivirus folder exclusion (We use SEP 11) on the SharePoint Server
Note: PDF files opens fine for all users.
I would immensely appreciate if anybody has got any advice/pointers/suggestions. Desperately out of ideas at the moment.
    regards,
    Compter Sez No!

    Hi,
According to your description, When you try to open a Microsoft Office document from a SharePoint 2010 site in a client application, the document opens slowly and you are prompted to enter your credentials multiple times.
This issue may be because of SharePoint Web Front End (WFE) server(s) has Antivirus software installed and the exceptions are not set correctly.
I recommend to remove the antivirus software or set the correct permissions for the antivirus software to resolve the issue.
To configure the antivirus exceptions, please follow the guidelines in the below articles:
    KB943620:
Folders to exclude when you perform a file-level antivirus scan on a server operating system.
    KB952167:
Certain folders may have to be excluded from antivirus scanning when you use a file-level antivirus program in SharePoint.
    KB943556:
Recommended file and folder exclusions for Microsoft Forefront Client Security or Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010.
    Best regards.

  • Sorry, something went wrong - Open Office File from Search Results Page with Office Web Apps

    Hi,
I'm getting "Sorry, something went wrong" error when I'm trying to open any office document from inside Search Results Page with Office Web Apps, the same error is appearing in the document preview as well.
The error in SharePoint logs says that the file cannot be found.
Please note that this error is coming only when the "Filename" of the document is not written in English (in my case its written with Arabic characters).
If I try to open it from the document library, its opening properly with no errors.
    The only difference between two URLs (document URL in Search Results and in Document Library) is the value for "sourcedoc" attribute;
In the case of Search Results page, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is kept as is with Arabic characters.
While in the Document Library, the filename in "sourcedoc" attribute is converted into different characters (something like: "B9%D9%85%D9%8").
Anybody have an idea on how to overcome this issue, implement a workaround or modify the "sourcedoc" behavior?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Hamza AlSughier

    Dear Wendy,
Thanks for your efforts, I already tried your last suggestion before, but this didn't solve my problem.
Actually my end users are accessing this portal using ADFS and HTTPS.
Finally I got this solved, I have done below to get my overall solution working perfectly:
    - First I have configured Windows Authentication and ADFS Authentication on the same zone which is the default zone.
    - The issue when opening office documents with Arabic file name has disappeared as a result of first change.
    - Then I have faced an issue where we are not able to crawl content under Default zone, however we have to do so, after too many efforts, I found that its related to the Load-balancer/proxy, I have made the crawler server
    to crawl himself (http://CrawlServerName:PortNumber).
    - Also a change on Alternate Access Mapping was needed, I have set one of the extended zones (which is running Windows Authentication only) as Internal URL for the Default Zone, and this is was the URL I used for Crawling.
I have configured Server Name Mappings to make sure we got proper URLs in Search Results.
    - Then we faced another issue, which is Authentication selection on login page (How to bypass this page, and authenticate using ADFS auto), I used this solution (Set Custom Sign In Page):
    http://0ut0ftheb0x.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/skip-the-authentication-selection-page-at-_logindefault-aspx-in-a-mixed-authentication-environment/.
    - I faced one more issue as a result of above workaround; Sign Out functionality wasn't working well; users get logged in automatically whenever I click on Sign Out. I solved this by modifying the "Sign Out" Control under _layouts;
I made it to redirect users to ADFS Sign Out Page instead of SharePoint Sign Out Page (I know its not recommended, but I don't have any other option).

  • Open Office Startup Question

    Hi All -
I recently bought a new MacBook. My first Mac, so I am on these forums a lot asking questions that to long-time users likely seem silly. Thanks in advance for your assistance and patience.
When I start Open Office I see in my Doc an application called X11 start. I understand this is some sort of Windows Translator (?) or something. It opens up a small text window with "bash-3.2$" in it.
That box will 'hang' for a while. Then I get a small box saying "Command Timed Out."
I click OK, then I can see the Java start (again in the dock) and Open Office will start.
What is happening here? Can I get around this, or is this the (small) price I will have to pay to use Open Office on the Mac?
    Insight / Suggestions appreciated.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
Open Office for Mac uses X11.
X11 is a framework for building Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) and has its origin in the Unix world.
Right now it is indeed the price to paid when using Open Office.
As an alternative you can use NeoOffice http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php which is based on the Open Office sources, but doesn't need X11.
    Regards
    Stefan
