Start Routine / Update Rule ABAP

Hello Gurus
I am trying to write the code to do the following but I am not getting very far:
Two parts:
Load from DSO1 to Cube1
Only when DSO1-Product also exists in DSO2
Also lookup a field, FIELD1, from DSO2 which is not in DSO1, but is in DSO2 (based on Product which exists in all three)
There may be more than one FIELD1 per Product.
Any help appreciated.
NB I am in 3.5

okay , here is how it can be done..
Step 1:Create an Internal table for SOURE_PACKAGE, DSO2
Step2: populate the data in the internal table of DSO1 & DSO2
Step3: create a type to store the list of products and the list of additional fields present in DSO2. move the entries to this table from DSO2.
Step4: create a range that stores the list of products present
Loop at IT_Source_package
delete source  where product = range
move corresponding values from type table to IT_source_package
Endloop.
Append IT_Source_Package to Source_Package
hope this helps.

  • Start routine update rules

    Hi Gurus,
We are nw04s BI SP10 and I've completely implemented Note 981194.  I can't seem to get my start routine update rules to convert using Transformation Erzeugen.  I tried several scenarios, and still no success.
If somebody has code for BI 7 transformation start routine for datasources 2LIS_03_BX, BF and UM to the 0IC_C03 cube, I would greatly appreciate an email to [email protected] .  Points will be assigned.  I can cut/paste the routines from the update rules, I just need the start routines.
    Kind Regards,
    Alex

    Alex
Don't trust the converter - you have to check it all from end to end anyway so might as well do it manually.
I did the whole of _BF yesterday.
    Here's the start routine.
    *<2004s code>
        field-symbols:
               <fs_SOURCE_PACKAGE> type tys_sc_1.
only movements from to evaluated stocks are concerned
if stock-category is not intitial -> Delete from data-packag
or Header of generic article      -> Delete from data-packag
        loop at SOURCE_PACKAGE assigning <fs_SOURCE_PACKAGE>.
          if not <fs_SOURCE_PACKAGE>-bsttyp is initial
          or ( <fs_SOURCE_PACKAGE>-bwvorg = '450' and
               <fs_SOURCE_PACKAGE>-bwapplnm = 'IS-R' ) .
            delete SOURCE_PACKAGE.
          endif.
        endloop.
    *</2004s code>

  • Convert ABAP code in start routine/update rule to transform. start routine

    Dear BW ABAPers,
I have created a custom purchasing info cube (YCP_PURC1) based on 0CP_PURC1 standard cube. I would like to convert this new data flow to BI7 (from 3.x), and convert the standard update rule to transformation. I would need to rewrite the below start routine from the standard update rule to a start routine ABAP code in the newly created  transformation / start routine. My ABAP knowledge is limited. Will you please help?
*this is the start routine from the update rule. As a side note, the data source is 2LIS_02_SCL.
    LOOP AT SOURCE_PACKAGE.
        IF (     SOURCE_PACKAGE-cppvlc  EQ 0
             AND SOURCE_PACKAGE-cppvoc  EQ 0
             AND SOURCE_PACKAGE-cpquaou EQ 0 ).
          DELETE SOURCE_PACKAGE.
          CONTINUE.
        ENDIF.
no_scl is initial ( e.g. for good receipts, billing)
value has to be set depending on storno
        IF SOURCE_PACKAGE-no_scl IS INITIAL.
          IF SOURCE_PACKAGE-storno = 'X'.
            SOURCE_PACKAGE-no_scl = -1.
          ELSE.
            SOURCE_PACKAGE-no_scl = 1.
          ENDIF.
          MODIFY SOURCE_PACKAGE.
        ENDIF.
      ENDLOOP.
if abort is not equal zero, the update process will be canceled
      ABORT = 0.
Many thanks and look forward to your kind feedback.
    Kind regards,
    Csaba

    Dear All, Durgesh,
thanks to you all for your valuable input. Mainly the ABAP part was more interesting for me.
Durgesh, thanks for your input, it was useful. I just had to change the info objects to data source fields and add the lines before the loop:
    DATA: I_PACKAGE TYPE TYT_SC_1.
        FIELD-SYMBOLS <i_package> TYPE tys_sc_1.
        I_PACKAGE[] = SOURCE_PACKAGE[].
        LOOP AT SOURCE_PACKAGE assigning <i_package>.
          IF ( <i_package>-BWGEO EQ 0
          AND <i_package>-BWGEOO EQ 0
          AND <i_package>-BWMNG EQ 0 ).
            DELETE SOURCE_PACKAGE index sy-tabix.
            CONTINUE.
          ENDIF.
no_scl is initial ( e.g. for good receipts, billing)
value has to be set depending on storno
          IF <i_package>-NOSCL IS INITIAL.
            IF <i_package>-ROCANCEL = 'X'.
              <i_package>-NOSCL = -1.
            ELSE.
              <i_package>-NOSCL = 1.
            ENDIF.
          ENDIF.
        ENDLOOP.
    Points have been assigned accordingly.
    Thanks,
    Csaba

  • Update Rule ABAP

    Hello Gurus
I am writing a routine in update rules DSO1->DSO1
The idea is to populate price KFs in DSO1 that are blank with most recent populated values.
Are there any clever functions or ABAP I can use here?

SELECT * FROM DSO1 INTO table delete.
      sort delete by PRODUCT.
      loop at DATA_PACKAGE.
        idx = sy-tabix.
read table delete with key PRODUCT =
        DATA_PACKAGE-PRODUCT binary search.
        if sy-subrc <> 0.
          DELETE DATA_PACKAGE index idx.
        endif.
      ENDLOOP.

  • Deleting data package entries in start rout/update rule

in my logic in the start routine , i wish to delete all records form data_package where data_package-fieldx = somevalue .
can i do it using a single statement in one shot ? if yes , how ?
or do i have to loop through the entire package , check the condition and then delete .

create internal table with 2 fields, billno and item
    loop at datapackage
read internal table to see if it is there,
    if not, add the record,
    if yes, delete the datapackage.
    endloop
This way, your datapackage will have only the 1st record for each set.
    Good Luck,
    CL

  • Is it possible to read a third ODS in update rules between two ODS?

    Hi,
I have ODS1 and ODS2. I need to have data coming from ODS1 to ODS2. But there is a field "F" in ODS2 that doesnot exist in ODS1. I need to get this from a third ODS3. Is it possible to write a routine in the update rules for ODS2 to read the "F" from third ODS3 and return it in "ODS2"? If so how?
I appreciate if anybody can refer me to any documentation. Also my id is [email protected]
    Thank you.

    hi Visu,
    yes, it's possible.
say the ods name is zods1, zods2, zods3, you can write a start routine update rules like following :
    PROGRAM UPDATE_ROUTINE.
$$ begin of global - insert your declaration only below this line  -
    TABLES: /bic/azods300
/bic/a[odsname]00 or /bi0/a[odsname] is the ods active table name /bi0 for business content, /bic for customize
    DATA:  l_tabix like sy-tabix,
it_ods like /bic/azods300 occurs 0 with header line.
$$ begin of routine - insert your code only below this line        -
fill the internal tables "MONITOR" and/or "MONITOR_RECNO",
    to make monitor entries
data : it_data_package like DATA_PACKAGE occurs 0 with header line.
    select * from /bic/azods300
    into table it_ods.
    loop at data_package.
    l_tabix = sy-tabix.
    move-corresponding DATA_PACKAGE to it_data_package.
read it_ods with key [field name] = it_data_package-[fieldname]
if more key add it_data_package-[fieldname] - without AND
    if sy-subrc = 0.
       it_data_package-F = it_ods-F.
       modify data_package from it_data_package index l_tabix.
    endif.
    endloop.
    hope this helps.

  • Update Routine & Start Routine in BI 7.0

    Hi Experts,
We have recently upgraded from BI 7.0 , I am confused about where to write start routine & update routine in transformations of BI 7.0?
    Please mention any pointers?
    Thanks.
    Sharat.

    Hi
When you open the start routine you will see a routines info which gives you help on this.
    A summary would be:
    Update routine in transformation.
    RESULT = source_field-material.
Basically you can acess the value of the record by using source_field.
    Start routine.
The data comes in the form of an internal table with name SOURCE_PACKAGE.
You can access the values by looping into a work area.
    LOOP AT SOURCE_PACKAGE assigning <source_fields>.
    ENDLOOP.
End routine(This is a new feature in BI 7.0 where you can modify data when transformations are complete and before data is updated to info-providers)
The data comes in the form of an internal table with name RESULT_PACKAGE.
You can access the values by looping into a work area.
    LOOP AT RESULT_PACKAGE assigning <result_fields>.
    ENDLOOP.
Hope this helps you to understand the basics of the abap used in the transformations .

    HI SDN
Is there any tables for finding update rules, cubes, multiproviders in the system.
can any body tells me the tables for the objects all the objects
    thx

    Hi Rubane,
These the tables which gives relevant info,
Here are few of those -
Thought it may be of some use if we make a list of useful BW tables
    for instance
    v_rszglobv = variables
/bic/f (cubename) is the fact table of a content cube
/bic/D (cubename) P is the package dimension of a content cube
/bic/D(cubename) U is the unit dimension of a content cube
/bic/D(cubename) T is the time dimension of a content cube
/bic/D(cubename) I is the userdefined dimension of a content cube
/bic/m (object name) master data of object
/bic/t (object name) text data of object
/bic/H (object name) hierarchy data of object
you can replace the BIC with BI0 for business content object and cubes
RSDIOBJ - index of all InfoObjects

  • ABAP assistance - start routine logic in update rule

I have used an existing update rule and have based my logic around the same.  The purpose of the rule is to look up customer master data and get a subset of customer numbers from the transaction records so that the values for customer number from the transactional data will not be updated if it does not match with existing master data customer numbers.
The loads are full and we drop the data before we load.
I have listed the logic below (the number at the front is to be considered as the line number) and a list of open questions that I have thereafter:
    Start routine logic:
    1  DATA: l_index LIKE sy-tabix.
    2  DATA: BEGIN OF ls_customer,
    3        customer TYPE /BI0/OICUSTOMER,
    4        objver TYPE RSOBJVERS,
    5     END OF ls_customer,
    6      lt_customer LIKE TABLE OF ls_customer.
    7  REFRESH: lt_customer.
    8  LOOP AT DATA_PACKAGE.
    all customers from data package
    9    ls_customer-custno = DATA_PACKAGE-custid.
    10  ls_customer-objver = 'A'
    11    APPEND ls_customer TO lt_customer.
    12   ENDLOOP.
    12  SORT lt_customer.
13  DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES FROM lt_customer.
14   IF NOT lt_customer[] IS INITIAL.
    15    SELECT /BI0/OICUSTOMER RSOBJVERS
    16      FROM /BI0/PCUSTOMER
17      INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE lt_customer
18      FOR ALL ENTRIES IN lt_customer
    19      WHERE ls_customer-custno = DATA_PACKAGE-custid
    20      AND ls_customer-objver = 'A'
21    SORT lt_customer BY customer ASCENDING
    22  ENDIF.
    Questions
    Line
1 - what is the purpose of this line? What is it that is being declared
2 - in some code I have seen this line with OCCURS 0 at the end what does this mean with and without the term?
4 - I am using the Data Element name is this correct or should I use the field name?
    3 - 5 here I declare an internal structure/table is that correct?
6 - here I declare a work area based on the internal table is that correct?
7 - What would happen if I avoided using the REFRESH statement?
8 - 12 - Is this syntactically correct, I am trying to get a set of data which is the customer numbers which match the master data customers and the master data record is án active version and than appendíng to the work area?
13 - My understanding is this will reduce the number of records in the work area is this correct and needed?
14 - 22 I am trying to identify my required set of data but feel I am repeating myself, could someone advise?
Finally what logic would I actually need to write in the key figure object, could I use something like:
    Result = lt_customer.
    Thanks
Edited by: Niten Shah on Jun 30, 2008 8:06 PM

    1. This line is not required
    2. OCCURS 0 is the OLD way of defining an internal table with that structure.  As it is, it just defines a flat structure.
    3. Data element is usually best
    3-5 Yes
    6. No.  Here you are declaring a table of the type of the flat structure.  Just as the ABAP says!
    7. Nothing.  But by putting this in, you ensure that you know the state of the table (empty) before you start looping through the data package
8-12. You can tell if it is syntactically correct by pressing Ctrl-F2 when in the editor.  Looks ok.
    13. Ensures your list of customers contains no duplicated.  The code up to this point is building a list of all the unique customers in the data package.
14-22. Goes to the database and brings back ONLY those customers which are found in the master data.  Looks ok.
This is a start routine (that's why you've got a data package).  You don't use result.  You should update the datapackage.  But this you haven't done.  Double click on the table name /BIC/PCUSTOMER to get the correct field names.
So you have to loop through the data package again, and check if the customer in the datapackage is lt_customer.  If it is, fine, otherwise you blank it and report an error, or set an error message or whatever.
I wouldn't do it like this.  I'd do something like this:
STATICS: st_customer TYPE HASHED TABLE OF TYPE /bi0/oicustomer
                                  WITH UNIQUE KEY TABLE_LINE.
    * st_customer retains its value between calls, so only populate if empty
    * In one run of the infopackage, this will mean you do only one read of
    * the master data, so very efficient.
    IF st_customer IS INITIAL.
      SELECT customer FROM /BI0/PCUSTOMER
                              INTO TABLE st_customer
WHERE objvers EQ 'A'. " Only active values
    ENDIF.
    * Go through data package
    LOOP AT DATA_PACKAGE.
    * Check whether the customer exists.
READ TABLE st_customer TRANSPORTING NO FIELDS
                  WITH TABLE KEY table_line = DATA_PACKAGE-custid.
      CHECK sy-subrc IS NOT INITIAL.
    * If you get here, the customer isn't valid.  So I'm just setting it blank
      CLEAR DATA_PACKAGE-custid.
MODIFY DATA_PACKAGE. " Updates the datapackage record
    ENDLOOP.
Even this is not fully optimised, but it's not bad.
I strongly suggest that you get yourself sent on the basic ABAP programming course if you're going to do a lot of this.  Otherwise, read the ABAP documentation in the help.sap.com, and, from the editor, get the cursor on each ABAP keyword and press F1 to read the ABAP help.

  • ABAP Help at start routine of Update rule

    Good After Noon All,
My requirement is that cube ZAPO_C24M  there’s an UPDR flowing from 8ZAPO_C24M back to itself so to speak. The request is to change the data in the cube from Fiscal Year Variant Z3 to Z4.
But in start routine  i have to  take the existing record and reverse all of the key figures, and also change the RECORDMODE of the record to indicate it is a reversal record. This for specific Country KR and for these country the Fiscal variant is Z3. Again in the start routine, create a new record identical to the existing record that has Fiscal Year Variant Z4 instead of Z3.
So the idea is we’d load from the cube and send back to the cube one record that reverses out the existing data, and another record that contains the same data but with Fiscal Variant Z4 instead of Z3.
    Please Help me.
Points will be awarded for the right answer

    Hi Vaishali,
In the start routine copy the DATA_PACKAGE to a local table.
Select the records where the specific country is KR.
    Delete all other records.
Then read the records in loop, Keep one record same and just change the fiscal year variant.
And for the same multiply all the key figures by -1.
Transfer the content of the local table back to DATA_PACKAGE.
maintain one to one mapping in the update rule.
I am sure it will update, but you need to be sure that if you change Fiscal year variant then probably your fiscal period value should change. In that case you have to update it accordingly in the start routine.
    Regards.

  • Deleting  rows with missing values in field in start routine of update rule

    Hello experts,
how can I delet rows with missing values in a specific field in the start routine of update rules?
I think ABAP code should look something like this:
    delete ...  from DATA_PACKAGE where Z_NO = ''.
thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    hiza

    Write:
delete data_package where field = value.
    Hope it helps.

  • Need hints to bring BC400(ABAP) knowledge to BW update rules/routines.

    Hi,
I have just completed the BC400 (ABAP) course at SAP but the instructor had no clue about BW.
From se80, he thought how to create packages, programs, functions modules, classes/Interfaces, etc. but whenever, I asked how these fit into the BW update rules and transfer rules, he said he knew nothing about BW.
For example, how do I bring in a program written in se80 into my update rule or transfer routine which updates and ODS or cube?
i.e. The main reasoning for learning this BC400(ABAP) is to be comfortable in writing update rule or transfer routine to update ODS/Cubes in BW but the instructor failed me in making the link between the ABAP class and BW.
Can you give me some guide on this?
Can I work in se80 as I was taught and bring codes from there to update a cube?
i.e. if I need to write an update routine to update a cube from an ODS, can this be done in se80 (on BW)
I will appreciate any guidelines to bring in my new found knowledge to the BW environment.
    Thanks

Most Bw transformations are already includes inside programs or cmods or BTEs
By double cliking on start routines and end routines it already takes you into the ABAP enviroment
Have a look at the sappress book - user exits and BADIs in BW (it's not a brillaitn book by any means - it's just about passable and is short on detail - but it will get you a head start)

  • Diff between the Start routine and Update rules?

    Hi Gurus
Diff between the Start routine and Update rules?
    Thanks in advance
    Raj

    Hi,
Routines are like conditions or business rules that could be applied to filter the data while entering the BW system or could be used to apply certain conditions on the info objects itself.Update rule level you manipulate your data and  write your start routine.
There are 4 types of routines
    1. Start routine- Could be used at two levels (transfer rule level and the Update rule level)
This Start routine written at the transfer rule level helps filter the necessary data coming from the source system.
For Example: If you decide to extract data that contain only quantity greater than 500 , then you could specify the Start rouitne to achieve this.
The Start routine at the Update rule level provides similar functionality but at this point it helps direct specific data to
different data targets.  For Example: If there 3 data targets being fed from the Infosource, you may want to apply some condition to each data target, like send year 2000 data ti Data target1, 2001 to data target 2 and so on.  This can be achieved by using Start routine at the Update rule level
    2. Transfer Routine: This feature is available at the transfer rule levels
While performing the transfer rules operation, there are 4 features available to the developers to create business rules on top pf the Infoobjects.
    1. You could do a one to one mappping of the Infoobject
    2. Provide a constant value
    3. Include a formula
    4. Write an ABAP routine.
These 4 options refers to the transfer routine
    3. Update Routine:
The limitations of just having 4 options in the transfer routine is overcome at the update rule level. There are various other
sophisticated features avaialable apart from the 4 options mentioned above. These business rules could be specified pertaining to each data target.
    4. Conversion Routine: It provides functionality to do Currency and unit conversion.
    Regards.

  • Start routine and update rules

    Hi,
    What is accessed first:-
    Start Routines or Update Rules?
What is the use of global variables in start routine?
    Please reply.
    Thanks.

    Hi......
You have different types of Routines in BW .
    1) Start Routine in Transfer Rules
    2) Transfer Routine in Transfer Rules.
    3)Start Routine in Update Rules
    4)Update Routine in Update Rules.
The routines that you write in transfer rules are applicable to all the Data targets that get the data from that particular Infosource, when you are going to write some code in Transfer rules, you have to understand that you are going to manupilate the data that is going to get into BW .
If you are going to write in Update Rules , then that logic is going to apply only for that particular Data target .
Eg : Let suppose I have a Flat file that gets data from 3 countries, US, Canada and Mexico.
Now I have prepared the data source for the same . But I dont want to have the data of Mexico in to BW itself.
So I will write a Start routine at TR to eliminate the data of Mexico.
My Next step is I want the data of US into one ODS and Canada data in to another ODS.
For this I handle the dataflow at Start routine in Update rules, to eliminate Canada data for US ODS and Vice Versa.
    Global variables in Start routine
You can have global variables, internal tables populated by the
startup routine. This data will be available to the field
routines. Create yourself a start routine, declare some
variables in the global section, and then create a field
routine. You will be able to use the globally declared objects
    in the field routine

  • Start Routine in Update Rule

I want to replace all '# ' values showing up in a report with  space. For this I plan to write a Start Routine in the Update Rules which should scan all the data coming in into the cube and replace all  null or '' with space.
What is the best way to write this routine. It should check all data in all the fields of the data load coming in.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The space is shown as # in the BW Reports, to confirm check the value in the cube for this field, so
you need to change that to some other character like X or Y or explain your end users that SAP
designates a space as # and it will be displayed that way in the reports.
    Regards,
    Raj
