StartDoc with no save dialog

Hello,
We have a C++ program to print a formatted report, by selecting the configured  printers. "Adobe PDF" printer is available on install of Adobe Acrobat Pro. We are using the trial version.
During report print  when "Adobe PDF" printer is selected, the report use to get printed in a PDF document & saves at the path provided by the User.
Internally it uses printer APIs like StartDoc, StartPage, DrawText, EndPage, etc.
Report printing was working fine with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1 and earlier. But since I installed Adobe Acrobat X pro (with update as 10.1.7) I am unable to print PDF document using "Adobe PDF" pinter.
StartDoc API does not pops up the "File Save As" dialog at all.
Here is the code that needs to be fixed:
CDC dcPrinter;
dcPrinter.Attach( dc );
          //set page dimensions
          CRect rPage;
          rPage = _SetPrintDimensions( &dcPrinter );
          // doc info
          DOCINFO docinfo;
          memset( &docinfo, 0, sizeof(docinfo) );
          docinfo.cbSize = sizeof(docinfo);
   CFont *pOldFont = NULL;
   CFont NewFont;
   BOOL bIsNewFont = NewFont.CreatePointFont(105, _T("Arial"), &dcPrinter);
   ASSERT(bIsNewFont);
   if (bIsNewFont)
      pOldFont = dcPrinter.SelectObject(&NewFont);
      ASSERT(pOldFont != NULL);
          int iRet = dcPrinter.StartDoc( &docinfo );
  DWORD dw = GetLastError();
When this code executes, the returned value of StartDoc is -1 which means the function failed to load the printer driver.
The GetLastError() function returns the system code 122, which means The data area passed to a system call is too small.
When I try to print a second time without closing the application, a crash occurs. The crash never happens the first time.
We need an urgent help on this issue.
Thanks,

This is a user to user forum, and you are mostly talking to other users for Adobe technology. There are a few Adobe employees who stop by every now and then, but this is not an official Adobe support channel. As TSN suggested, you need to either get in touch with Adobe and raise a developer case, or figure out what's going on with your system by debugging in the Windows print sub system.
Can you execute a print request by just printing an existing document to the Adobe PDF printer? If that works, then I would assume that you are out of luck because the printer is doing what it's supposed to do. There is no API documentation that suggests that you can use it to "throw" low level drawing routines at it.

  • Help with quitting Excel with activex (save-dialog)

    Hello.
    I have following question.
    I have a VI that writes data from measurement devices into an excel file. Afterwards I want to change the order of the entries with the help of activex.
    All that works fine, but when I quit excel the save-dialolg always pops up. I searched this board for possible solutions and experimented quite a bit but I still get one dialog at the end.
    Well, now at least it is only one and not multiple ones. The loop in my the implementation for the data manipulation might be the cause, but if it is it, i don't know why or how to solve it. But maybe it is something different. Anyway, I cannot find the reason.
    Some help would be really appreciated .
    Thank you very much in advance.

    OK. In the attachment is a picture of the modifications.
    Now I have to two problems.
    First, after running it in highlight modus, I now know the dialog pops up at the _Workbook.close invoke node. Despite setting true to SaveChanges.
    Second, I now get an error code -2147352565 - unknown error at invalid index. and nothing gets saved.

  • File open/save dialog causes SPOD with 10.10.3

    Just updated to 10.10.3 from 10.10.2 using the combo updater (after hearing stories of people being hosed by the normal updater and having success once the combo was applied).
    Now, however, I find that whenever any application needs to open or save a file, and the directory selected in the dialog has a LOT of files (like 10K files), I get a SPOD (spinning pinwheel of death) for minutes.  MINUTES.  This never happened on any previous iteration of any MacOS.  This is on a MBP late-2013 with 16GB of RAM and a SSD.
    Already repaired permissions.  Checked the filesystem with Disk Utility.  It's OK.
    This is really debilitating.
    I have a saved process sample output from Safari while it was in SPOD mode with the file dialog open.  I can upload this if would be interesting to anyone.  NOTE: just attempting to save this sample trace from within Activity Monitor caused that application to SPOD while it was asking me where to save the sample output.

    When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • Save dialog with file type selection

    I'd like to give the user a save dialog with a dropdown
    showing a list of file formats to select from, as is pretty much
    always the case in normal save dialogs (even if there's only one
    acceptable file type.) It servers both as giving the user options
    and letting the user know the file format being saved to.
    I can't seem to figure out how to do that in AIR.
    File.browseForSave does not take a FileFilter array, and does not
    provide a default name option. I can get the default name by
    resolving a path for the File object first, but this doesn't show
    the user the various filetype options they have, and even if they
    knew them they would have to manually type them in the dialog. Am I
    missing something?

    FOUND THE PROBLEM!
    I have several timelines in the project, and most of them are titled things like "window dub w/timecode". I found one that was titled "interviews" and tried to render that. The Save dialog appeared, only when I rendered from THAT timeline. So I started to look for differences between the timelines.. then it dawned on me that all the timelines that don't render have the "/" character in the title. Adobe should warn that this character is not allowed, rather than allow it and then behave weirdly. Could have saved me hours of thrashing about!

  • Media Encoder, No File Save Dialog with New XDCam Project

    I've started a new project last night and I got it edited toda
    y. It's XDCam 24P timelines, very simple linear
    string of short 45 second clips of interviews with executives.
    The timeline behaves normally in every respect. Except, when I attempt to render it to any format in Media Encoder, I never get the File Save As dialog. I press OK and the Media Encoder settings goes away, then, a second later, reappears. It took me a few moments to realize something was wrong.
    I rebooted the computer, thinking Premiere was just corrupt in memory, as sometimes happens, but after a fresh start, the same behavior with the Media Encoder. Now I'm really worried, because this is a corporate event video with a deadline.
    Just to check, I tried opening a prior project and tried to render anything in that project. This time I get the Save As dialog, which is expected. So I return to the corporate event project and try again to render anything within that project. The encoder settings keeps redrawing when I press OK and I cannot save anything.
    Thinking my project was corrupted, I copied the assets and made a new project and pasted them into the new, blank project. Once again, I cannot render anything. All I get is a redraw out of the Media Encoder settings screen.
    This is a very simple project. There is nothing unusual about it that could cause this freakish behavior, except the lighting used at the event was mostly yellow. Apparently it doesn't like something about my footage, but I cannot re-shoot this one-time corporate event! If a reboot didn't fix it, and other projects still work normally, then it's a real head-scratcher. This is new behavior that I've not encountered in 3 years of using CS3.
    I'm out of ideas. If it's XDCam my footage, then I'm dead in the water here!

  • Save Dialog not consistent with Finder

    For years, I have been adding a bullet (•) Option + 8, to file names that I wish to have appear at the top of the alphabetical list in the Finder. Prior to Leopard, the Save Dialog also placed these files/folders at the top. All of a sudden, with Leopard, I find these names now located at the bottom of the "Save As" dialog although the Finder behavior is the same as before.
    Is this behavior a feature or a bug?

    Probably behavior. A dash works. Apparently the bullet in lower in order than the dash.
    It may even be what is called undocumented behavior/feature, meaning that not being a documented item, it is subject to change. Just because something works a certain way does not mean it will always work that way unless it is specifically spelled out as a feature.
    What you want is a delineated list of the "alpha" order of non-alpha characters. I am not sure it exists.

  • Autofs.service causing problems with gnome's save dialog boxes

    Recently I have been having a problem saving files to disk using the gnome save dialog box when autofs is running. Basically what happens is most of the folders on the right side of the save dialog disappear (see screenshot below) and remaining few become unresponsive when clicked. If I wait a few minutes the folders will eventually appear and work when clicked, but needless to say this is annoying.
    I can "fix" this  problem instantly by simply running systemctl stop autofs.service, but this is not a good solution because I like the convenience of mounting my  NFS shares on demand.

  • Finder sidebar not updating with applications open/save dialog boxes

    Hi all,
    I've searched the threads and can't seem to find an answer to this recurring issue that I'm having.
    I save folders to current projects in the Finder sidebar. However, I find that when I try to find those sidebar folders from within the open/save dialog applications that it is often times and old version of the sidebar. In the image linked below note the Finder sidebar on the left and the InDesign CS sidebar on the right. The list of folders is different. The version via InDesign seems to be an older cached version.
    Screen capture: http://www.fabianross.com/forum-images/screen-capture.png
    Does anyone know how to update this cached version to see the new list of folders?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Try deleting this file: com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. See if that helps...
    Seems to me that Adobe is very picky about where the files are kept on the hard drive. You might not want them in the Sidebar. Whenever you do an Adobe software update, the installer needs the path to where those files go. If it's missing in action, it can wreak havoc.
    Make sure when you do Adobe updates, if there is a link included or a Read Me file, check that out first before installing anything.
    Run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions BEFORE and AFTER any software updates:
    Launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • Open and Save dialogs are painfully slow. Is there a solution?

    Open and Save dialogs are painfully slow. Is there a solution?

    I pulled this part out of one of the topics Barney-15E linked to. It absolutely works! The glacially slow Finder response has been driving me batty in Mavericks. Each time I restarted, it would take forever to list the startup drive when I opened it. Open and Save dialogues were also painfully slow to respond. Now they all snap open and list instantly. I used TextWrangler to comment out the line in the file auto_master, then ran the automount command in Terminal.
    Working workaround:
    Use the following statements in Terminal.
    sudo vi /etc/auto_master
    In this file comment out /net with #  (#/net .....)
    sudo automount -vc
    Fixed.
    Confirmed here too both for Preview.app Open file sluggishness and Finder window population. Thanks Snaggletooh_DE!
    Couple of notes:
    (1) Some folks may be more comfortable using a GUI editor like TextWrangler instead of vi
         a) in the Finder use the GO menu and select Go to Folder
         b) type  '/etc' ( without single quotes ) in the Go to folder dialog box and press the Go button
         c) Right ( Control  ) click the auto_master file in the resulting Finder window. Select "Open with...." and use TextWrangler ( your choice )
         d) Comment out the line by inserting a '#' ( pound sign ) as noted in Snaggletooth_DE's instructions
         e) Save the file  ( probably need to authenticate with your admin password  )
         f) Do the 'sudo automount -vc' per Snaggletooth_DE's instructions. Will need to authenticate again.
    (2) Notice Snaggletooth_DE described this as a "workaround" because it bypasses an Apple bug. Presumably most people have not changed their auto_master file and it worked fine in Mountain Lion and prior. In other words: If you haven't done so already, please continue to submit feedback and bug reports to Apple for this issue.
    Kudos to Snaggletooth_DE for figuring out code is trying to look at network ( NFS ) volumes that maybe don't exist.

  • Set default filename for file save dialog on Save button click

    Hi,
    I am using AxAcroPDF (version 9.0) control to view pdf files in windows forms (C#). The pdf loads into the viewer in the form. Now, when I click on the Save button in the viewer, a Save dialog pops up with a default filename having complete path info.
    If I have loaded the pdf file into AxAcroPDF viewer with filename:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\KB_Kravi\My Documents\CustomerList.pdf"
    then in the save dialog, the default filename will be:
    "C_Documents_and_Settings_KB_Kravi_My Documents_CustomerList.pdf"
    Is there any option to set the default filename in the save dialog to some short name, instead of this lengthy name?
    Thanks,
    Ravi.

    Hi,
    I've found a solution.
    public void Open(string filePath)
    axAcroPDF.LoadFile(filePath);
    //this will set the correct name in the save file dialog.
    axAcroPDF.src = filePath;
    Thanks for your help.

  • Open/Save Dialog, 9 min. Beachball Freeze

    I am running OS 10.10.2 on a March 2009 iMac with 8GB RAM and 1TB HD.
    PROBLEM: While working in Illustrator 18 (CC 2014), if I choose File > Open, the Open dialog appears but I get the spinning beachball for 9 minutes before file contents appear. I don't have the same problem in Photoshop or any other app.  But after Googling, I see that a number of people have posted similar Console Log messages (see below) when using in a variety of apps in Yosemite, even in Apple's own Mail app.  This tells me the root problem may not be specific to Illustrator, even though it only affects Illustrator in my case currently.
    WHAT I TRIED:
    1) Moved all Adobe Illustrator related PLISTS and preference files and folders to the Desktop and then launched Illustrator.  I saw Illustrator rebuild new prefs files and all settings reverted back to stock.  This proves my moving of the prefs to the Desktop was successful to cause a rebuild of new prefs and PLISTS. Even so, the BeachBall freeze appeared when I did a File > Open.
    2) Rebooted with SHIFT held down (Safe Mode).  But the beachball problem remains.
    3) Disconnected all USB devices except keyboard/mouse, and turned off WiFi and BlueTooth, and even yanked my Ethernet cable.  I also turned off Time Machine and Default Folder.  But the problem remains, even through a reboot.
    4) I removed DropBox and GoogleDrive and I closed all apps other than Illustrator, but to no avail.
    5) Tried a Guest User, but that doesn't work with Adobe Apps.  Ditto for a Standard user.  You get an error dialog when you try to launch Adobe apps with that kind of user.  So I then created an Admin user.  Illustrator's Open dialog box displays files perfectly, as normal!  A NEW ADMIN USER FIXES THE PROBLEM!
    So a new Admin user fixes the beachball problem in the Open dialog, but for my normal Admin user there's the 9 min. beachball problem.  And yet, SAFE MODE doesn't fix the problem while in my normal User.  And neither does deleting Illustrator prefs.  So it's clear there's still something lurking in my primary user account that is absent in the new Admin user account.  But what?  And how can I find it?  (Migrating everything to a new User account is no easy task.)

    I get the exact same set of messages that you see above every time I try to reproduce the problem, simply by doing a File > Open in Illustrator.
    I assume AFP is Apple File Protocol?  But what "server" is it trying so desperately in vain to "Get"?  And why is a DNS resolver being used?
    Anyway, as you can see from the Console log above, the beachball in the Open/Save dialog in Illustrator goes away after 534 seconds (about 9 min.).  But it reappears each time I try to go to a new folder on my HD within that Open dialog.  Each time takes exactly 534 seconds each time for the stupid beachball to go away when changing folders in the Open dialog.
    This beachball freeze (for 9 min.) in Illustrator's Open dialog occurred every once and a while over the last several weeks, but now it consistently happens.  And no, I've not installed any new software on my iMac other than Yosemite updates.
    Once again, I would prefer to fix the root problem in my primary user account rather than migrate to a New User even though I now know a new Admin user account resolves the problem.
    Please help.

    With regard to my cry for help...
    Pretty please?
    Here are links to other apps which show the same Console Log messages that I am seeing, proving this is not an issue exclusive to a single app:
    Vmware & OS 10.10.2
    Pertaining to networked HD's
    Shared Mac on a Network
    Prevents Time Capsule access and kills Time Machine too
    OS 10.10 & Time Capsule woes
    OS 10.9.2 & NAS woes
    Yosemite & Time Capsule woes
    iPhoto woes after Migration
    More Time Capsule woes
    Time Machine woes from Germany (translated)
    mDNSResponder stuck in restart loop
    If you read through all the above like I did, you're probably very tired by now.  But if you had the same problem as I do, you would do anything to resolve it, hence my post here.  So again, I plead for your kind help and attention to this problem!
    The above links do tell me one thing, that a "network error" is at the heart of the Console log messages and my problem.  And that remains true even when I've disconnected from the network entirely, leading me to believe that this is some sort of CACHING BUG.  For truly, there is a Time Capsule at my office, and I do use Time Machine (although not saving to the TC but instead to an external FW HD).  So...  It is my guess that Yosemite has cached some network data it doesn't like and tries to access that data from a cache when the Open Dialog appears in Illustrator.  But WHY ILLUSTRATOR in my case?  It makes no sense to me at all.  I would think it should consistently occur in the Open dialogs of all apps, but it's only in Illustrator.
    I did have problems with my Time Machine backups after putting Yosemite on my iMac, but those issues were resolved in the 10.10.2 update.
    In any case, if indeed it is a CACHING BUG, how then would I clear that stupid, evil cache?
    Again, I would appreciate your kind thoughts and advice.
    Thank you!

  • Open and Save Dialogs Slow to Open and Populate

    In all of my apps, the Open and Save dialogs have become very slow to open and populate since installing Snow Leopard, when the machine is connected to a Windows server. Disconnecting from the server solves the problem; reconnecting causes it to reappear.
    This only happens on some of my machines, and not others
    Any thoughts on what this could be. The delay is significant (about 10 seconds in all).

    Roy,
    I've got the same problem. I've been charting the slowness, i.e. the time until the app responds and opens the save dialog box, and most apps hover around 2 minutes of waiting.
    My home network consists of a belkin n+ router (running only with the N radio, and WPA2 security), one ethernet-connected powerbook with a USB-connected hard disk (640GB+), and my MBP connecting by wireless. The USB HD is used as a Time Machine backup disk, and the backups are extremely slow, on the order of 2 GB's per hour at most.
    That said, I called up Apple Tech Support and they had me flash my PRAM, restart the machine, and Reset Safari (since that was the app I called about). These efforts, unfortunately, did not fix the issue.
    I will be passing on the fact that Tech Support's efforts did not solve the problem--maybe they'll get back to me on the issue. If so, I'll post it here.

  • Open/Save Dialog does not show new files?

    Say you are working on a logic file in a folder and you have
    a few audio and movie files in that folder, and you launch
    Logic and via the open/save dialog window you add a few
    files to your song and in that dialog window you can see
    all the files in that folder.
    Then, in the Finder you add a few more files and movies to
    that folder and again use the open/save dialog window to
    add more files BUT the new files you added since launching
    logic are NOT SHOWN in the dialog window ! ?
    What's the deal with that?
    Every other app can show files added since the launch of the
    application, why not Logic?
    PowerBook G4 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    project manager
    um, yeah.
    Should not need the project manager simply to see new files added to a directory in a Open/Save dialog window since last opening the app.
    I did a scan, a extended scan, opened all the little turn down arrows of the
    full path to the directory I knew there to be the new files and yes, Logic
    shows them there in the "Project manager".
    BUT Logic still does not show the files in the Open/Save dialog windows.
    This is strange because even simple app like TextEdit can show
    new files in it's Open/Save dialog function windows without the need of
    a project manager.
    I have to quit and re-launch each time to see any new files?

  • Open/Save Dialog Box Freeze

    Hello,
    Since updating to 10.4.7, the open/save dialog box freezes (beachball) after selecting a folder. Can anyone please point me in the right direction in solving my issue.
    I used the ComboPPC updater and then ran Cocktail to repair permissions, cron scripts, clear caches etc.
    I recently posted about the Finder freezing instead I should have mentioned that it was the Open/Save dialog box.

  • Find in Open/Save Dialog boxes

    The find in open/save dialog boxes seems to return unexpected results. Say I have two folders one called "Down under" and the other called "Down under 2". If I ask it to find "down" it only returns the file "Down under 2" and other files whose content may have the word "down" in them. The folder "Down under 2" only has jpegs in it. None have "Down" in the file name.
    So what gives?

    Surely someone knows what is going on in spotlight. If I use Easyfind for the search it comes up with both files folders correctly.
